Lieutenant Governor’s Message Aloha Aqua Apes! We are now a month into the term! As we get settled into the administrative term, remember that time is of the essence; time will fly by far faster than you can ever imagine this term. Utilize your time wisely to perform service and plan events. Most of you are out or will soon be out of school for the summer. The summer is a great time to really get ahead on your planning incoming seniors, start working on those college apps and personal statements! In addition, it is extremely valuable to take the time to plan out events that you want to hold later when school starts. You will be overwhelmed by school, so it’s imperative that you get as much completed over the summer as possible. Also, I want to remind you all just how important it is to log your service hours with your club secretary; it is the only way we can keep track of all the service that you’ve performed for your community! June’s service focus in the Pediatric Trauma Program! Key Club fundraises for this amazing organization in order to help alleviate the number one killer for youth under the age of 14. All of your funds go toward providing facilities such as car seats or toward training understaffed pediatric hospital workers. Clubs who raise funds should complete the division Donations Form and submit the money to me, where it will then go to the district. Remember our goals is to raise a total of $2,000, so start working hard now! Key Club Training Conference, formerly known as Officer Training Conference, is rapidly coming up! Keep in mind that attendance is mandatory for all officers and that members are also highly, highly encouraged to attend. Attending these events with the rest of the region is an opportunity to open your eyes to the size of Key Club and you can learn more about our initiatives and what distinguishes Key Club from other organizations. Please never hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have. I can be reached by email at d34n.cnhkc.ltg@gmail.com or by phone at 650-703-6812. BANANAS for service, Kelvin Yang Division 34 North Lieutenant Governor

National Rebuilding Day National Rebuilding Day (NRD) is held every last Saturday of April of the year. Volunteers of all ages from Oracle and the community gather to rebuild and repair. I spent my day at Nesbit Elementary, working to create a hopscotch with two Key Clubbers, two Oracle volunteers, and one Nesbit student. Other volunteers built a greenhouse, tidied up a garden or classroom, or repaired a sink. It's rewarding knowing that the students will return to school with new activities and will create memories with it!

Second Harvest Food Bank Every month, our club participates at Second Harvest Food Bank in San Carlos. This time, our task was to sort sweet and salty food. All of the food was from Nabisco: Oreos, Wheat Thins, Belvita, and more. The team leader told us that the food bank takes the food that is unable to be sold in stores (ex. crushed packaging). In exchange, Nabisco receives a tax write-off. I helped sort and package the food into cardboard boxes, as well as weigh the boxes on a scale to ensure it doesn't exceed maximum weight.

S P E CI A L G A M E S At the 2016 Special Olympics in Saratoga, I had a blast. During the event, I was tasked with leading a team of disabled children through a series of events that were created for their entertainment. This was extremely fun for me because the kids were constantly happy and ready to play. Overall, this event was a lifechanging experience that I will not forget. Trey Chock Carlmont Member

Kiwanis Special Games is known for being a heartwarming event and it was again proved true this year. At Special Games, children with various disabilities accomplish athletic tasks. For example, kicking beach balls into a net/goal or knocking cans off a table. While these challenges may not seem like all that much for you or me, it requires a great amount of control, focus, and effort from some people. It's really fulfilling seeing the athlete you're leading complete event after event; gain ribbon after ribbon, and keep a smile on his face. This year, the team I lead with Paolo and Crystal did not show up for a while and we almost lost hope in having a team.

Until one boy found us -- he ended up being the only athlete on our team roster to show up. It was his third year attending Special Games and he wasn't tired of it. In fact, his teacher told us how much he looks forward to Special Games. It was so much fun walking around the courses, singing along to Demi Lovato, cheering athletes on, and meeting new people. Special Games will always hold a special place in my heart. Hannah Higdon Carlmont Key Club President

MAY DCM For the May service project/DCM division, we went to Baker Beach in San Francisco. We started the afternoon off at 2 with our service project, a beach clean up! We split into groups of 2-3 and went off thoroughly scouring the beach for whatever trash we could find. Though the beach looked very clean we were still able to find various bits and pieces of garbage. After piecing together the bits and pieces we were able to collect about 2-3 full bags of trash. Personally, I felt this was pretty successful. Around 4pm

we started our May DCM, here we first introduced ourselves and shared what each club has done recently along with what each club plans to do in the next few weeks. Later we got to see who would be in the new DLT! Then we went over future projects and stuff like that. Finally, we recognized member, officer, and club of the month! We ended the DCM around 5.
