DNE Hey Aqua Apes! My name is Katarina Povinec and I am your Division Newsletter Editor for the 2022-23 term! I am a rising senior at Carlmont High School and am currently going into my third year in Key Club as one of Carlmont’s Vice Presidents. I served as Carlmont’s Newsletter Editor and a member of the D34N PR Committee last term, so I am very excited to be able to continue my journey as an editor and create monthly division newsletters for you all. In addition to graphic design, a couple other hobbies I have include teaching English to international students, reading literary fiction novels, and, of course, serving the community. Even though it may be difficult over the summer, I hope you all have still found ways to continue participating at service and social events (especially our DCMs!). And, as always, be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming July events. Enjoy the July issue of The Aqua Ape Times! <3

Best wishes,

Katarina Povinec Katarina Povinec D34N Newsletter Editor d34n.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com

LTG What’s up Aqua Apes! I can't believe we are about a quarter into the term! So much time has gone by, but don't worry Aqua Apes, the best parts of the term are coming up in the future! One of them is Key Club Training Conference (KCTC)! This event is with the ENTIRE REGION. I can't wait for all of you to meet some penguins and tigers, and even the D12 superhero universe! This is such a great time to learn about different Key Club skills and to have lots of fun in our activities! It was so fun playing games with all of you at our June DCM and congratulations to all of our Summer Service Olympics medalists. Your athletic career will not stop here–I can see your bright futures. During this summer break, remember to have days where you commit to rest and recovery as the stress nightmares aren't fun, I would know! Don't worry about not being productive during your time off, just take care of yourself and next year we can commit to the scholastic, athletic, musical, club, and of course, most importantly, the Key Club grind! (just kidding guys). See you guys around the division!

Thanks!

John Hillyard John Hillyard D34N Lieutenant Governor d34n.ltg@cnhkeyclub.org

Hey D34N!

Best,

Julia Tsuei Executive Assistant 123tsueijulia@gmail.com

I hope everyone is having a restful summer break so far. My name is Julia Tsuei and I am a rising junior and secretary at El Camino. I have been in Key Club since freshman year, it has been enlightening watching so many ambitious student leaders in Key Club grow and give it their all to better this environment for us, and now, I'd like to give back to what they've given me. I look forward to working with everyone and growing as a leader. On another note, during my free time, I love playing and listening to music (mostly kpop, cpop and classical), gaming on xbox, coding, and eating. I'm also a pretty chill person so if you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate reach out to me :) I am beyond thrilled to serve this division, let's make the best out of this term!

DSEC Hey Aqua Apes! My name is Sean Sygaco and I'm so excited to be serving on the DLT once again as your Division Secretary! I am a rising senior at El Camino high school and also serving as their KC President. Ever since my freshman year, I have made so many memories being part of this family, so I know that I will finish off my last year on a high note. As DSEC, I have many plans for our Division, so I can't wait to share them with you guys throughout the term. Make sure you guys enjoy your time off, but also look out for your club because there are many things planned throughout the summer and it will be fun. Feel free to contact me if you ever have any question, comments, concerns, or just want to talk.

Thank you!

Special Games was an annual Kiwanis-sponsored event for 700+ children with disabilities from public and private schools across Santa Clara County. The event started off with a parade where all of the children walked along with their schools and volunteers cheered them on. After that, the volunteers met with their assigned groups of children and led them through various activities and games. It was an incredible event and I had a lot of fun leading and assisting my assigned group through the variety of games. Some of the games the children played included a tennis ball bowling game, races, and an infinite loop game. It made me really happy to see the children enjoying themselves and being proud of themselves. I also really enjoyed the pizza lunch that we had after the event. Overall, this was an amazing event that positively impacted many people, both the children and the volunteers!

On May 13th, I attended the Kiwanis Special Games. During this event, we spent the day by giving disabled kids the opportunity to go out and play through various activities. It was a fun experience since we were able to go out and collaborate with Key Clubs from other divisions. I would definitely come back next year because even though setting up the games was a lot of work, it paid off in the end. TYLER HTET | EL CAMINO

The event on 5/7 was very nice and joyful. I got to meet new people and also work well with them. When I first arrived, I checked in and helped set up cones to close the road. Afterward, I was told to be at the DJ booth and was instructed on what to do. I mostly stayed there all day but also got the chance to watch some of the performances.

MARIA RAMOS | JEFFERSON Sunday the 15th was a chill day. I arrived and did the usual of going in and picking up cones to close the streets. Afterwards, I watched the juniors practice since the other LDM crew was away performing somewhere else. Then, after junior practice, I went to help set up the DJ booth with a few other people. I stayed and managed the booth while keeping an organized space area.

I really enjoyed going to the Trinity Preschool Ice Cream Social! We helped set up, run, and clean up Trinity Preschool's Ice Cream Social that they held for their preschoolers. I helped out with the fishing games, but other volunteers also helped out with bowling, face painting, and many other fun activities! It was amazing to see all of the little kids smiling and enjoying their afternoon. Little kids never fail to make me laugh and this event was no exception. Spending my afternoon with little kids and knowing that I was contributing to their happiness was a really great feeling! Another benefit of the event was that they gave us ice cream at the end :) GRACE KIMBERG — CARLMONT

The June DCM was held at Les Mundell Grove in San Carlos on the last Saturday of June. After the club and division report-outs, attendees had a plethora of activities to choose from. Some focused more on writing cards for hospital patients, while others gave their all in the Summer Service Olympics. This activity consisted of a watermelon eating contest, three legged race, bunny hop race, tug-of-war, and limbo. A medal ceremony was conducted at the end to award all of our winners! Attendees also had the option of buying water balloons to throw at the DLT in exchange for a donation to the Pediatric Trauma Program (one of our preferred charities). Overall, the June DCM was a successful compilation of a service, social, and fundraising division event.

WHAT IS THE The Spotlight on Service Program is a CNH program designed to promote the service goals of the CNH District. By focusing on different themes each month, clubs are able to host a variety of service, social, and fundraising events that all go towards important causes in the community.

BEE CLEAN July’s Spotlight on Service is BEE Clean. This is the time to host service, social, and fundraising events centered around the idea of keeping our community clean and environmentally conscious. It’s the perfect opportunity to host park cleanups and have guest speakers talk about the impact of climate change in your area.

MORE INFO To find ideas for events or more information, please visit cnhkeyclub.org > Projects > Spotlight on Service Program.

ARAGON For the month of May, Aragon continued to hold general meetings during the school day but we limited them due to AP testing as well as finals. We had our last meeting of the school year the week before finals to celebrate with cookies. Several members and officers also attended the virtual May DCM where the DLT was announced and OTC was hosted soon after. This upcoming month we are planning on having an online service project and combining it with a general meeting to provide service opportunities for our members as well as information about division and club-level events they can partake in.

CARLMONT Last month, Carlmont Key Club hosted a total of 7 service events. Many of our members participated in division events such as the May DCM and OTC, as well as the Annual Special Games. We were also able to have Sarah McDowell, the mayor of San Carlos, as a guest speaker during one of our club meetings. Some notable service events that members attended in May were a virtual birthday card-making event and the San Carlos Hometown Days. We also kicked off the beginning of summer with an end-of-the-year celebration where we recognized seniors, gave out recognition awards, and hosted a dares fundraiser for ELIMINATE that raised $87! For the summer, we are switching to having club meetings every other week on Zoom. We'll have lots of virtual and in-person service events. We are super excited for the summer and to continue volunteering!

EL CAMINO In the past month, El Camino has been working on various projects despite being finals month and graduation for one. For one, they have participated in the Kiwanis Special Games as well as their local food drive at the club level. Elco's connection with the division continued to stay strong as two of their officers were accepted into the division leadership team for the new term. As for summer plans, the officers are planning some local events for the members that choose to participate as well as consistent reminders via Remind now to keep in touch with members.

25

HILLSDALE In the month of May officers attended the May DCM and officer training conference. Officers learned how to better do their jobs and received advice. We as a club are still continuing to train our new officers and help them complete their tasks. We are continuing to hold board meetings and will plan regular meetings during the summer. Currently we are working with the parks service in planning events and will plan other service/bonding events for the duration of the summer.

NOTRE DAME As the school year ends, our club prioritized hosting service events that could be completed during lunch and recognition of members for their hard work. We hosted multiple service projects at lunch during our bi-weekly meetings, including Do Send A Card and making dog toys. We recognized the person with the most service hours in our club, and passed out final membership cards and pins. We also finalized training for board members and completed filling our committees. We are excited to see what the summer holds for NDB Key Club and can't wait to attend division events!

WESTMOOR For the past month, we had our last executive meeting of the school year. During this meeting, we discussed future plans on how to promote membership, plans, volunteering, etc... We also held our last general meeting for the school year.
