Division 34 North Fun Facts

There are 5+ school districts in D34N

Our colors are aqua blue and yellow

We are the closest division to the upcoming location of Region 17 Training Conference: La Honda, CA

Our mascot are the AQUA APES and we go BANANAS FOR SERVICE

Aloha Aqua Apes, I hope you all ad an amazing summer. Whether you spent it on vacation, taking classes, doing programs, or spending time with friends and family, I hope you all were still able to find time to complete service. Remember the fall is a an extremely busy time so you must take advantage of every free moment you find. Remember to remain a member in good standing you must pay your dues during fall and complete at least 50 hours of service. To all the new incoming members, I want to give

you a big welcome to our organi-

zation. Key Club is the oldest and largest service leadership program for high school students in the world. We pride ourselves in being student run

and in finding innova-

tive ways to perform service and fundraise for our charities. Key Club International is part of the K Family, with Kiwanis International as the parent branch. There are different branches for different ages including Circle K for college and Builder’s Club

for middle school. As you can see, our organization is extremely complex, large, and incredible. I highly encourage you all to

come out to a Division Council Meeting to

figure out what the buzz is truly about. Please feel free to message me with any questions, comments, concerns, or just to say hi. I continue to feel extremely blessed that I was elected to serve the proud and mighty Aqua Apes of Division 34 North. I encourage you all to never stop smiling and

never stop serving. A little reminder of motivation is all you need to get through fall. APE crazy for service, Shu Yang Division 34 North Lieutenant Governor Region 17 | Cali-Nev-Ha District

Region 17 Officer Training Conference Shannon Lee~Lowell I walked into OTC relatively lost. Although I have not been in the club for long, I had quickly fallen in love with service and worked hard to push myself to try to become an officer. However, this also means I do not know a lot of people outside of Lowell. I was extremely hesitant in going because I am definitely not an outgoing person and no one from Lowell was attending. However, Shu Yang was encouraging and had convinced me the experience would be worth the effort. Upon arrival, I could feel he spirit of service in the air as people walked by in their division t-shirts. Throughout the day, I became closer to my division and built relations with other officers, who were able to give my pointers for the year. I’m extremely excited for the school year to start so I can apply the leadership skills I learned at OTC and implement more activities to bring us together as a club.

International Convention This year, Kiwanis celebrated its 100th Year Anniversary by having a joint international convention (ICON) with Key Club International and Circle K International. ICON took place from June 24th-27th and brought in many new amendment and International Board Changes. Division 34 North had two members, District Treasurer Mary Kim Delemos and Division Newsletter Editor Hannah Higdon attend. Beyond workshops, learning, and having a voice in important international decisions, members also found time to have some fun. If you missed convention this year, look forward to Key Club International Convention 2016 in ATLANTA!

District Treasurer Mary Kim Delemos, 12 South Lt Governor Anna Pham, and Division Newsletter Editor Hannah Higdon represent Region 17 at International Convention.

International Convention Passed Amendments 1. A Key Club may be established in a high school or community based organization that does not have a chartered Key Club upon petitioning Key Club International.

These officers shall constitute the board of the district and shall have such duties as prescribed in the district bylaws. Each officer shall be an active member in good standing. Section 7. The district officers shall be elected at the annual district convention in the manner prescribed in the district bylaws except in such cases where bylaws call for lieutenant governor elections at prescribed divisional caucuses prior to the annual convention. Service Project Spotlight

Andy Kwong~San Mateo I volunteered to clean up Coyote Point Park with my home club’s sponsoring Kiwanis Club, Greater San Mateo. We got instructions from the park ranger and started work right away carrying wheelbarrows, hoes, and shovels. The backbreaking work that was put into weeding and mulching showed the passion hat key clubbers have for service. The sweat and tears everyone put in was shown through sore arms and fingers that couldn't move for the next day. If this isn't passion for service, I don't know what is. Greater San Mateo is hoping to do this

Kelvin Yang~Aragon Last weekend a couple members from Aragon key club went to fundraise for a school supplies drive for the upcoming year. Flyers were handed out door to door to inform the neighborhood of Foster City to gather their supplies to be picked up on the 25th of this month. All of the supplies are purely donations and we do not request anyone to have to spend money. It was extremely uplifting to see the genuine care everyone had when receiving the flyers. It seems as if we will be getting a lot of donations this upcoming week. I enjoyed the fact that we were able to truly see the community want to help out. This service project is something the Aragon board has been working on for two months now so hopefully we will be able to make a huge difference for kids returning to school this upcoming fall.

July Division Council Meeting

Kitty Qu ~ San Mateo The July Division Council Meeting was held at Coyote Point Park in San Mateo, CA. It was coupled with a service project to install signs and spread the wood chip to help beauty the park. I had a great time meeting a bunch of new people from various schools. Although it was an extremely hot day, doing service with such energetic people made it all worthwhile.

Members Hannah Higdon, Crystal Wong, and Nick Tong work to install a sign to point park visitors in the right direction.

Thank you to Mills Key Club for hosting the July DCM and congratulations for winning club of the month. We can’t wait to see how you will decorate the spirit stick!
