DNE Hey Aqua Apes! Happy August! Wishing you all a fantastic start to the new school year and good luck on college applications to my fellow seniors. I hope you all were able to relax during the summer and feel refreshed for the new school year. As we roll into club rush season, it’s important to keep all your members (old and new) updated on upcoming events. For example, we have our Region Training Conference (RTC) and Fall Rally North (FRN) happening in October. These are great events to start advertising and/or fundraising for! More information about our August events can be found on page 26. Another thing to keep in mind is the Member Recognition Program and other District contests. Updated contest rubrics will be released in the fall so that you can start planning your portfolios and the awards you’d like to aim for. DCON 2023 will come sooner than you think!

Best wishes,

Katarina Povinec Katarina Povinec D34N Newsletter Editor d34n.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com

LTG Hello Aqua Apes! I hope everyone is continuing to have a great summer. I see lots of you are busy with summer jobs, classes, and programs! I was so glad to see so many of you at KCTC and I hope you all had lots of fun and learned lots. Now that it is August, school is right around the corner for many of us. For some of us that might seem sad, but to others, it just means club rush season! Let's all support our clubs and officers by helping promote Key Club at the start of the year so that we can grow our division and be the best that we can be. Let's all try to set up systems that will work for us this school year so that we can keep up with all the work we have to do as students. We got this Aqua Apes!

Surfing the Waves of Service,

John Hillyard John Hillyard D34N Lieutenant Governor d34n.ltg@cnhkeyclub.org

EA Hi guys! Thanks,

Lina Saleh Executive Assistant 808525@seq.org

I had so much fun meeting you guys at the Aqua Skate social! Now that we’re halfway through summer (what. is. time.) and summer coursework is catching up, I wanted to remind you that you’ve got this! I know we’re all dreading August, but we’ve just got to take it head-on. Other than that, I hope you’re all enjoying summer so far and will continue to do so. Stay safe. Stay hydrated. Stay Keynnected.

EA CONT. Hello Key-uties! With school (sadly...) around the corner, I hope your summer has been treating you well! I loved going to KCTC/July DCM with you guys last month, and I can't wait to see what's more in store for us this term! Keep your eye out for future service opportunities and events, and how we'll start transitioning into the new school year with key club! Fun fact: I'm an August baby, depending on when you read this, it may or may not be my birthday (mwahahaha!). Keep yourself safe, and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to me always! Love you all!

Thank you!

Rea Angela Vera Cruz Executive Assistant rea.angela0806@gmail.com

Hey D34N!

Best,

Julia Tsuei

As we near the end of summer break, I hope everyone is enjoying the last bits of summer (and if you have summer assignments, I hope they are going well)! It was nice seeing many of you guys in person at the last DCM, although, it was a bit traumatizing having water balloons chucked at the DLT. Lastly, since we are still in summer, please come to as many events as you can before the school year starts so we can reach those division/district goals ;)

Executive Assistant 123tsueijulia@gmail.com

DSEC Hey Aqua Apes! I hope your summer has been going super well! I've noticed lots of participation in service and fundraising this past month, so awesome work everyone. I know not everyone is excited about this, but the school year is starting up again. This is a great time to prepare for future events and even your club fairs. Expect many new curious members, so make sure to do your part of giving them an exciting first impression. Of course, during those moments make sure to record some articles and visuals for those sweet banana points! Anyways, continue to attend many events and participate in fundraisers so we can reach our division goals. If you need anything, reach out to me anytime!

Thank you!

Sean Sygaco Division Secretary 122017ss@gmail.com

The D34N Aqua Skate Night was the first division-wide social event of the term. Key Clubbers from all over D34N were invited to participate at this event on Saturday, July 9th in Redwood City to bond with other members and learn how to roller skate. I had a great time interacting with all of the other attendees and also trying roller skating for the first time. Although it was not easy at first, I found myself getting more and more comfortable throughout the night. Overall, I hope our division is able to host this kind of social event again because I would definitely attend!

KATARINA POVINEC | CARLMONT

09

Come skate with us on AUGUST 20TH from 7-10pm at Sportshouse, REDWOOD CITY! More info on page 26.

Show some aqua spirit, just like LTG John!

The Pasta and Bingo Night was an exciting volunteer event at the San Carlos Adult Community Center. Those who attended ate dinner and then played bingo while enjoying the company of friends and family. There were 12 tables, so we all split into pairs and each team had two tables to serve.

MARIA RAMOS | JEFFERSON

Working with other volunteers to serve all the food was extremely rewarding, and we talked with many friendly, joyful people. We also watched everyone playing bingo while we ate dinner, which was exciting as everyone waited to see who would finally get a "bingo." As we all worked to clean up after the event ended, it was satisfying to know that we helped give attendees a positive experience.

11

I definitely enjoyed seeing everyone at the event having fun and spending time with family and friends. Overall, it was a fun, impactful experience, and I look forward to attending more events like this in the future. BROOKE FRANASZEK | CARLMONT

12

GISELLE LEI | JEFFERSON During the Baker Beach Cleanup, we worked with Galileo Key Club in picking up trash around the beach. The organization we worked with, Surfrider Foundation, provided us with grabbers and buckets which made everything very convenient. Most of the debris we found included bottles, plastic wrappers, and cigarettes. The weather wasn't the best, but everyone still contributed in volunteering. The event went very well for it being our first interclub service event of this term!

13

AMY GUAN | JEFFERSON On Sunday, June 26, we went to clean Baker Beach in an interclub with Galileo Key Club! As we arrived, we met up with the president of Galileo's club, received tools and buckets, and split off into groups of 2. After cleaning and walking to the mountain edge of the beach, we made the decision to return to the front with our buckets of trash as it was almost 12. While walking back, we met up with Galileo and saw dolphins up for air! We were able to give back to our community and create a better atmosphere for Baker Beach.

AMY GUAN | JEFFERSON

ARAGON During the first month of summer, members used up their time participating in service and fundraising events! Events such as the Bay Area VisionWalk, ALAS Food Bank, and the June DCM were all great opportunities that members attended to help out the community. Aragon also held its first service event of the term: the San Mateo Center Pride Drive. As members are still active, our officers are too! Aragon's president, Marcela Zaragoza, was awarded Officer of the Month! Marcela was also announced as a Division Spirit Committee member; we are proud of our president! Melody Chen, Aragon's secretary, was announced as Division Service and Fundraising Committee member as well. Aragon plans to hold another event next month for any active key clubbers.

CARLMONT In June, Carlmont Key Club hosted a total of 7 service events, as well as a social event and a fundraiser. Many members attended the June DCM, where we played games and participated in service, as well as the D34 Kiwanis DCM, where we were able to learn more about the role of the Kiwanis in our community. Our service events were made up of a mix of both in-person and virtual events, and included events such as the Foster City Cleanup, Making Cards for Hospitalized Patients, the San Carlos Community Pasta & Bingo Night, and more. We also continued to host our club meetings every other week on Zoom. For July, we plan to continue to attend division events, have a guest speaker at one of our club meetings, and host an interclub along with other great service events!

EL CAMINO In the past month, El Camino has been very busy in planning some events for the club. We just finished up some service events at the June DCM and our club level recurring food distribution. Near the end of the month, we had an interclub with South City for a park clean-up. In the upcoming months, we are working with Lowell and Jefferson for an interclub service event as well as planning for our club fair before the school year starts.

29

HILLSDALE In the month of June, we worked on planning an inter club with Sequoia and Carlmont where we will fill up pencil cases with supplies for students in need. We also had members attend the summer service Olympics DCM. Our officer board has also been starting to discuss and plan what we want our club to look like for the next school year and creating goals that we’d want to accomplish.

WESTMOOR For the past month, we planned an inter-club event with Jefferson High School's Key Club. We also held our monthly executive meeting to discuss the details of this inter-club event.
