Lieutenant Governor’s Message
Aloha Aqua Apes! Now that school is officially underway, I hope you all stay proactive and positive-minded. Remember to get enough sleep and put school first! Seniors, don’t procrastinate on those college apps! Get started now! In addition, the fall semester is an extremely hectic time in Key Club. With so many events coming up, it can quickly get very overwhelming. There’s Division Council Meetings, Region Training Conference, Fall Rally, Key to College, fundraisers, and your own club service projects. Utilize a calendar or planner to organize everything and reduce the stress on yourself! In addition, the start of the school year is a prime time to begin recruiting new members. Missed the August membership recruitment workshop? Keep an eye out for more member recruitment resources! In addition, we have plenty of exciting events and activities that ALL members, new or not, should attend. One goal for your club might be to have every current club member bring just ONE new member to the next meeting - if accomplished, your club membership will quickly double in size! A reminder that in order to be in good standing with Key Club International, you should complete 50 hours of community service by the end of the term (April)! It may sound a lot, but even with the remaining 7 months of the term, all you need is around 7 hours per month, which is less than 2 hours per week! Easily achievable! Take a deep breath as you enter into the school year! Just relax and keep doing Key Club and life will be great! Please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone on the Division Leadership Team if you have questions, comments, concerns, or just want to chat! We are all here to serve YOU! See you all soon!

September Service Spotlight
What is the Spotlight
on Service Program?
The Spotlight on Service Program is a recognition service that offers a chance for clubs to be featured in the District Newsletter. It provides a uniform infrastructure for clubs to take initiative in becoming involved with local and district- wide organizations that are parallel with the Cali-Nev-Ha District’s Major Emphasis— Children: Their Future, Our Focus.
Service Event Ideas: Kids Matter Day This free family event is designed to inform about ways to keep kids safe from abuse, and other dangers while their children enjoy age- appropriate activities. There will be an opportunity to visit health/ safety stations to obtain valuable information.
Decorating Bicycle Helmets Decorating bicycle helmets is a great way to bring families together. Children can create playful designs on their helmets so that they will like wearing them.
Glow Stick Distribution Walk around on Halloween with glow sticks and hand them out to children. They will make the children visible as they cross the streets from house to house.

Pediatric Trauma Program Lemonade Stand
Since a majority of CNH is hot and sunny, have a lemonade stand at your local park or beach! Make sure to inform people that you are raising money for PTP and what it's all about! All you need is a table and some lemonade.
Boba Fundraisers
A fun fundraiser that many clubs & divisions hold is boba fundraisers! Contact your local boba shop to set up a fundraiser and donate proceeds towards the Pediatric Trauma Program.
Pie Smash This is fun fundraiser where members can pie officers! This fundraiser is easy for both clubs and division! Get some empty pie trays and fill them with whip cream! Have members donate 2-6 dollars toward the cause.
Fundraising Ideas: What is the
Pediatric Trauma Program?
The Pediatric Trauma Program, also known as PTP, is one of Cali- Nev-Ha’s major emphasis within the district. The mission of PTP is to decrease the number of children who are injured or killed due to accidental injuries. These accidents can be prevented by providing resources and proper training. Money fundraised for PTP goes towards proper training for doctors, nurses, first responders, and necessary equipment.

Club Summaries Our club wrapped up the summer with some really productive events. At our last weekend of our garage sale, Aragon pulled in $267 for a total of $540 for the entire sale. Members worked the sale from 10 am to 6 pm, putting on a smile for the community. Members also attended a Dreams Dinner meal packing event at on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 at Hillsdale High School with our sponsoring Kiwanis Club. We joined hundreds of other volunteers from around San Mateo to pack over 45,000 meals for the disadvantaged on the peninsula and in Haiti. Lastly, we capped the season off with the pickup phase of our school supplies drive. Two weeks before, members helped pass out flyers notifying 1000 Foster City residents of our drive; now it was time to see how generous they were. Spreading out across a couple neighborhoods, our club collected around 150 pounds of pens, pencils, paper, books, binders, folders, and so many other supplies to be donated to our local Boy's and Girl's Club. Thanks, Foster City. Now that summer is over, our club is ready to kick it into high gear, and this was a good start.

CARLMONT
At the end of July, Carlmont Key Club's 12 members participated in Relay for Life by walking laps on the track and helping our Kiwanians complete tasks. In addition, the officers and a few committee members spread Key Club spirit at freshman orientation, hoping to recruit a few new Aqua Apes! We also invited potential Key Clubbers and our club members to Carlmont Key Club's Ice Cream Social Fundraiser to raise funds for the Pediatric Trauma Program, while enjoying ice cream with their friends. School may be in session, but who said summer was over? We look forward to what this new school year will bring us!

Club Summaries On Friday we went to our school's freshman orientation to talk to some of the incoming freshmen about Key Club. We talked about the fun events we do as a division as well as the service we do as an individual club. Some of them seemed really excited about what we do, so we hope we inspired some of them to join!

Club Summaries
EL CAMINO
Over the past month, El Camino High School's Key Club has done some service during the latter part of the summer which allows us to really get into the spirit of Key Club for the beginning of the school year. We had the July DCM where our club Vice President, Jurel Dizon, enjoyed the educational experience the supervisors implemented in the event. Our final beach clean up of the summer was once again a great success as it showed the loyalty of some of our members despite much of the main office not being able to attend. These summer beach cleanups not only preserved our growing ECHS Key Club family and bond, but it led to an entirely new and fun service opportunity we can continue for years to come. Lastly, in the last couple of weeks, we have shifted our focus on member recruitment, advertising our club at mini club rushes at our school.

Club Summaries In July, the Key Club of South San Francisco had a Westborough Park Clean-Up(7/9), attended an Improving Public Places Event(7/16), and had a few members attend the July DCM/ San Bruno Mountain Clean-Up(7/16). At the Westborough Park Clean-Up volunteers pick up trash and pulled out weeds at the local park. Improving Public Places is an organization in South San Francisco and its name pretty much describes itself. At this IPP event volunteers helped lay wood chips around the small plants that were recently planted, spread flower seeds, and helped with irrigation for the trees. Our club had 3 people attend the July DCM/ San Bruno Mountain Clean-Up. Recently in August our club officers attended a Kiwanis meeting in which we presented a Powerpoint. We are planning to have Westborough ParkClean Ups every 2 weeks. Currently, we are planning for our school's club rush, working on fundraisers for PTP, and planning for the November DCM which our club will be hosting.

Relay For Life
Jason Tsui Carlmont Key Club Member Relay for life was an amazing event to be involved in. I participated by walking the laps around the track and aiding the tent I was stationed at. I was able to witness the amazing shows the event provided by the event. The event was entertaining however, it was also emotional. The ending ceremony had a slideshow providing images of passed loved ones and memorable quotes to not let cancer get the best of us. Towards the end of the ceremony, there was an emotional walk around the track to pay our respects to the people who have lost the battle to cancer. Overall the event was an amazing experience and I would recommend anyone interested in the event to attend.

Relay For Life
Carlmont Key Clubbers demonstrate how to spend a day outdoors by volunteering at Relay For Life
Maddy Palarca Wong Carlmont Key Club Member On July 30th-31st Carlmont Key Club and San Carlos Kiwanis teamed up and joined the community in the fight against cancer at Relay for Life. Relay for Life, which was held at Carlmont High School, is a 24-hour walk that helps promote awareness and also raise funds for cancer research and treatment. There they also took the time to honor those who fought or are still fighting cancer. From bra ping pong to jazzercise to free food and music, there was plenty of things to do as we walked the track. It was a fun event for a good cause that I'd definitely do again.

Ocean Beach Clean Up
Jurel Dizon El Camino Key Club Vice President Our fifth beach clean up, despite only having three members, was a day of success. With our previous experience at Ocean Beach, we knew hotspots for both trash and Pokemon. At Sutro Baths, we took waste out of one of the old bathing rooms, which was deserted with old newspapers, bottles, cans, and chip bags. We also took out garbage from several plants, in order to make sure they flourish in a proper environment. After our cleanup, we even separated the trash from the recyclables.

The July DCM was truly a hike. Being the only El Camino member available, I had to attend to represent my club, so hoorah for banana points. Picking out the mustard plants required getting in touch with the roots. I even pulled out one of the largest plants. But the significant part was the education given by the supervisors, as we learned about how the appearance of the mountain changes throughout the season, and how our activities accomplished during that day affects the community in the mountain.

San Francisco Kiwanis Luncheon
Catherine Ke Lowell Key Club Vice President Division Executive Assistant This month, 5 of our officers were able to attend our San Francisco Kiwanis Luncheon. This luncheon was really fun because we were able to connect with the members of our Kiwanis club for the first time. This is the first time in a long time that officers from the high school key clubs have attended a luncheon as well. The food was really good and we even had political comedian, Will Durst, speak a few words and jokes. Will Durst was really funny and brought a lot of joy to the room. There was also an activity called "Happy Dollars and Sad Dollars". In this activity, you put a dollar in a box and either say good news or bad news. This activity was a nice way to share about how people were doing. I will definitely try to attend another luncheon in the future.
Good quality bonding time is very beneficial to all key clubbers and kiwanis advisors

Aragon Garage Sale
Max Liu Aragon Key Club Vice President Our club recently hosted a garage sale in order to raise money for club activities throughout the next year. The garage sale took place in July, spanning 3 weekends for a total of 5 days. We sold various items including clothing, books, bikes, electronics, etc. We managed to raise a total of $540, including a very generous donation of $100 from a neighbor. This event was a great way to solve our financial problems very early in the year.
