Hello Aqua Apes! Happy September, and I hope you are all doing well. As we all begin to transition into our first full month of school, I hope you have all adjusted your sleep schedule as well as your productivity levels. I know plenty of you have woken up in the afternoon during this quarantine, so hopefully, you all were able to make it to your first class on time :)) School wise, stay driven! I am definite that you all got this! If you need support, don’t be afraid to reach out to your teachers, classmates, or fellow key clubbers! I am also always available to talk to :) Also, while you are all working extremely hard, don’t forget to take care of your health! As for service events, I hope you all have taken advantage of the amount of service opportunities offered in August! I know with school starting, priorities have shifted, and August was probably the final month that many of us were able to attend the majority of events. As for member recruitment, continue encouraging new members to join Key Club! Also, good luck to all the seniors working on their college applications :) Before I end this off, don’t forget to turn in your challenges on time! Challenges are a great way to take advantage of earning banana points! Without further to do, enjoy this month’s newsletter!

DNE Challenge: If you had a time machine would travel back into time or travel into the future?
With school in full swing, I hope that you’ve all had time to adjust to online learning and have gotten into some sort of rhythm with your new schedules. If you haven’t quite yet, now’s the time! Resources such as a Google Calendar, a physical planner, or just writing down to-do lists can all help become more organized. Also, get ready for Region Training Conference 2020! RTC will be from September 19th-20th, with different sessions throughout both days for you to attend. Even though the event will be on Zoom this year, the Lieutenant Governors of Regions 9 and 17 have so many fun activities and workshops planned! We will try to mimic an in-real-life training conference, especially with opportunities to socialize, a talent show, and campfire! We cannot wait to see you all there. Lastly, please remember to keep attending Division Wide Service Projects hosted by the Division Leadership Team and various clubs throughout the month! This is a great way to continue serving our communities online and earn service hours through the pandemic. If your club would like to host a service project, please feel free to contact me and I can help you set one up! This is also a great leadership opportunity where you can learn to plan a division project from beginning to end. That’s all for this message, I hope to see you sometime soon!

Hello! As the school year is around the corner, let’s make this the best term possible! It’s going to be hard balancing both school and Key Club, but there are many possible ways to handle it. One tip I’ll like to provide is to set a schedule and time, plan it out, make sure you do forget about any commitments. Don’t get overwhelmed with anything going on, just remember to keep calm and mental health should come first. Thank you for attending all the amazing events in July and I hope to see you in future ones to come! Remember you’re ape-tastic and thank you guys so much for your hard work.

I can’t believe it’s already September; time’s going by so fast! I’m so proud of how active our division has remained during this term, keep it up aqua apes! Thank you to everyone who came out to all the division events this month, it’s been great to see everyone despite it being over zoom. Be on the lookout for more fun events coming soon! Also, I hope everyone was able to get through the first few weeks of school; I know that I’ll take some time to get used to it...Don’t forget to take time for yourself every now and then, especially with school starting :) We love seeing you all at events but remember to prioritize your health and wellbeing <3 As always, you’re more than welcome to reach out with any questions or to make friends! Summer break has come to an end and now school is starting! This summer was a really great time for hosting division events in order to stay social and connected with other key clubbers! I was able to attend many virtual social events held by clubs and I hope we can keep this up throughout the school year! Also, RTC is coming up and I hope to see a lot of you guys attending! NOTES OF INSPIRATION Notes of Inspiration was a very heartwarming event to participate in. It was nice to write many letters to kids and teens who will be going back to school. The letters that were written had many kind words. Brian Khov Sequoia
The Notes of Inspiration event started off with icebreakers, where everyone was put into different breakout rooms consisting of about 7-10 people and answered the question of who is your favorite Avatar: The Last Airbender character. After, there was an informative explanation of what Schools On Wheels, the program we were giving service to, is and what we can do to support them. The main part of the meeting consisted of everyone making encouraging cards and notes for kids going back to school, while listening to 2000â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s music and show theme songs. Overall, it was a successful, well-lead, and fun service event! Maahika Samudrala Aragon

GOTTA HAVE SOLES carlmont x mills x san mateo x sequoia
Despite the fact that we are all in a shelter in place, we were still able to have an inter-club service event where Carlmont, Hillsdale, Mills, San Mateo, and Sequoia all participated in. During the Gotta Have Sole event, participants were able to decorate cards by coloring in shoe templates and writing special messages onto the card. This organizationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s goal is to provide homeless youth with brand new shoes to help them feel confident, comfortable, and special. Thousands of shoes are donated across the country and with each pair of shoes, is attached a heartwarming card. We wrote letters for kids who are going to be receiving a new pair of shoes from donors. It was really fun to write positive notes and decorate the cards. Overall it was a really great event! SERVICE WEEK Service week was a change in events considering these circumstances. It included a wide variety of service projects that were entertaining and helpful. Personally, I got to become closer with other people in the division with FaceTime calls while completing these events. Service week definitely felt different but it was well executed considering the time we live in right now.

Landon Lee Lowell
SOSP RECYCLING DRIVE
T
o follow the July SOSP, all of the board members met in a meeting at the beginning of June to discuss ideas on how we could better our environment. I noticed that I, as do many, have stored recyclables sitting in my house waiting to be brought to a recycling center for money. So as a way to both raise money for PTP and stick to the “Bee Clean, CNH” theme, we decided on hosting a recycling drive! We made a couple of guideline graphics for what are CRV (California Redemption Value) eligible, how many hours members would receive per filled bag, and how to do a safe, no-contact drop-off. Some officers and I stayed at the local park for two hours on Sunday, July 19th, so that key-clubbers could have a window of time for donating. Overall, we succeeded in collecting over 7 trash bags full of cans, bottles, etc. We will be turning them in at a recycling center soon! In retrospect, although the amount we collected might not have produced a grand amount of money, we are still proud to have initiated a project that will ultimately benefit our world and the people in it (even if it’s just one minuscule push out of millions towards environmental and societal change). The origami book service event was immensely enjoyable. The students who organized and hosted this event did a wonderful job. By utilizing the break out rooms to meet other peers as well as teaching us how to create origami bookmarks, I felt at ease. I used several pieces of printer paper and watched several youtube videos along with the students who taught us how to fold the papers. I was able to create very cuteanimal bookmarks and they turned out really well. The hosts also played music in the background as we made the bookmarks, which was pleasant to the ears. At the end of the event, everyone was able to share their cute origami bookmarks. Arian Villena Westmoor
Honestly, Origami Boo challenging event for awhile to get the hang Yet once I got the han relaxing to just sit there bookmarks. I printed o make bright and color animal bookmarks. I ho encourage people to having a little fun. Oscar Lei Jefferson The Origami Bookmark event was so much fun and a great volunteering opportunity. I was never the type to be good at origami, so I wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t expecting much from the event. However, it was an enjoyable experience and now I know how to make bookmarks in the future. I have always wondered how to make the bookmark, the decorating was very entertaining. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m glad to be giving back and providing something for school on wheel during this difficult time. It was an assuming and nice change of events from all the card making. I attended the origami bookmark service event and it was great. Making bookmarks was a nice touch in doing a variety of things, This just shows how anything is possible when it comes to service. Everyone was focused in creating the best that they could and giving to others. The event was nice and relaxing as just working on folding and decorating. Lawrence Wu Westmoor On August 5th, the division met up to do an arts-and-crafts centered service project where key-clubbers made little bookmark corners for kids receiving backpacks through School on Wheels Massachusetts. There were many different designs that we could create, including animals, hearts, flowers, and more! I had a great time creating something that a kid might love and smile from. The meeting was wellorganized and had great, inclusive vibes. I hope to do this type of project again with the division. Kaelyn Fung Mills

BANANA BREAD BAKING EVENT Aragon x Lowell x Jefferson x Westmoor

At our interclub event Aragon, Westmoor, Jefferson, and Lowell members baked banana bread and used the leftover banana peels and egg shells to make compost! We started off the meeting with some icebreakers and then transitioned into baking. We had a great time listening to music, debating about some fun topics, and baking as a group. After everyone got their banana bread in the oven, we showed them how to dry their banana peels and wash the egg shells to make it easier to crush it into small pieces for compost. While we waited for the banana bread to finish baking, members from all the different clubs socialized and had a good laugh. Courtney Tai Aragon
During the baking service event, we made banana bread and used the food scraps to create compost that will fertilize our plants at home. Although I bake often, I enjoyed getting the opportunity to do it with other people. This reminded me that there are so many things I can compost myself and feed to my trees. I plan to continue doing this to curb our waste and help out the environment! Abigail Lee Lowell

Club Summary
Aragon:
For the month of July, Aragon Key Club participated in the July Dare Fundraiser DCM which was a lot of fun. We had our informative meeting for new members and also included a service event where we made letters for cancer patients. We had an inter-club SOSP event with Lowell, Westmoor, and Jefferson where we made banana bread and compost. Also, we attended the Notes of Inspiration service event hosted by Jefferson and the Member Recognition and Graphics workshop hosted by Kristen Carpio. Both of which were very fun and informative. We are also hosting a profile picture competition for our members where they can have their artwork as our new pfp. Now, we are just planning for our next general meeting and division-wide service event.
Carlmont:

This past month of July we’ve been holding bimonthly club meetings with service events following each meeting as well as board meetings. We participated in our divisions fundraiser DCM and had a blast! We also participated in the division wide project event, notes of inspiration as well as “Clean up; Bee Clean” where we picked up trash around our neighborhoods. We have more events and club meetings planned and can’t wait for next month’s events!
El Camino:

In the past month of July, our club had a board meeting in preparation for the upcoming school year. We made a Member Interest Form and advertised it to see who was interested in joining the club. We lined up at least three service events, such as face mask making, planned for the school year. Also, we planned for our first general meeting. Obviously, since school isn’t in person, general meetings will be on video calls. During which, we’ll have bonding activities, inform members of the club, and speak about our service events. All in all, right now, our board is prepping for the school year.
Hillsdale:
- Alex Quemuel
During July, Hillsdale Key Club saw some passive members becoming active, attending service events this month! We had members attending the July DCM, Notes of Inspiration, and Origami Bookmark division events. We also held our Gotta Have Sole IERI event with Carlmont, Mills, San Mateo, and Sequoia where we made handmade cards for kids in homeless shelters getting new shoes. We are continuing to look for more ways to keep members informed and excited for upcoming events. With school starting up soon, we are getting ready to advertise and welcome in new members.

Jefferson: July was a busy month for our club, considering that we hosted our first Division-wide service event! Our officers are proud of the efforts in preparing for and executing the hosting of the event smoothly. Although this wasn’t our biggest month in terms of accumulating service hours, it was one of the most hectic. The numbers don’t do justice to the combined teamwork and individual work of our board to create graphics, create, prepare, and host an event, contributing on the divisional level, and communicating with other clubs, all on top of individual duties. However, despite our hard work, our goal to increase member participation this summer has ultimately failed to meet expectations. We have continued to see participation from a small group of very dedicated members, along with a group of non-paids members who are all eager to become official Key Club members! That is one bright spot we can take away from this summer: we’ve influenced a group of people to join the club in the upcoming months! With plans of sharing service events together in person this upcoming school year shattered, our club will remain optimistic and make the best of the limits. Our officer board will begin discussing ways to operate and expand the club digitally for the upcoming school year. Our events
Lowell:
- Luis Solidum
For the month of July, Lowell held multiple events such as a Free Rice Contest and we have continued working with Masks for All CA. We also had an interclub event with Aragon, Jefferson, and Westmoor, where we made banana bread and fertilizer. Our board members also participated in the Division Dare Fundraiser, which was super fun! This past month, we also had our first summer meeting where we wrote letters for essential workers and played Kahoot. For the month of August, we are planning to have another general meeting and we’re also finding more events and ways to fundraise for this school year. We’ve prepped for freshmen orientation and plan on having an info meeting sometime in September.
Notre Dame
- Jasmine Bao
Throughout the month of July, Notre Dame Key Club attended Division events and prepared for the upcoming school year. We attended the July DCM and Dare Fundraiser, as well as Notes of Inspiration. We participated in the dares as well as daring Officers from other clubs to do them as well, which was a lot of fun. We also hosted an informational meeting for new members to familiarize them with the club, clarify details, and answer any remaining questions. Currently, we are researching to plan service projects and hopefully larger service events.
San Mateo:
- Alyssa Enriquez
This month we hosted an interclub event called Gotta Have Sole with Carlmont, Hillsdale, Mills, and Sequoia. In this event we made cards for kids who are receiving new shoes. We also had three club officers participate in the dare fundraisers for the July DCM. We also encouraged our members to participate in Jefferson’s service week. Since Friday of that week we have had AtlasGo available to our members as an ongoing service event for the rest of the month. Additionally, we have been hosting general meetings every week to keep our members updated on all the upcoming events and activities. Finally, we had members attend Notes of Inspiration and the Graphics and Member Recognition workshop.

Sequoia: For the month of July we had our monthly meeting over zoom, which lasted about an hour. Some of our members attended the July DCM and the Gotta Have Sole Card Making inter club event. We began planning possible events that we could have in the club. We recruited several new members and introduced them to our vision and goal as a club. We are currently discussing how our club would meet up once school starts and how we would incorporate it into our schedules as well as our members schedules.

South San Francisco:
This past month, South City has been promoting Key Club to our school’s ASB by submitting some clips from FRN to include in a video to the incoming Freshmen! Our officers have been holding FreeRice service sessions and Card making on our Discord server! We also have been posting weekly updates on our club Instagram to promote events on a club and Division level! We have attended numerous Division events and are planning to continue to do so in the future! We will continue promoting Key Club and we will be beginning to welcome in new members!
St. Ignatius
- Caroline Narcisco
Throughout the past month, our club has been holding board meetings to discuss possible plans for the fall. We are trying to figure out the best ways to expand the club during this unprecedented time, and our board is working hard to find workable solutions. At the moment, we are planning on having an inter club meeting with our good friends at Lowell. Our President and Vice President are actively searching for possible service opportunities, including holding some of our own. We look forward to the year to come
Westmoor:
- Lucas Mc Fadden
For the past month, we striving toward an amazing term for the school year. We set up an interest form for members and is holding/held our first general meeting on Saturday, August 15th for our new members who signed up. We got around 26 responses so far, which is exciting. Also, on August 30th we’ll be having/had our first Division Wide Service Event, Project Sunshine. It’s going to be similar to the event we had as a club last month. Together we’ll be creating a coloring/activity book for pediatric patients. Due to the issue with our school, we have to stop our fundraiser by the start of school, however, during this time we raised $64 for PTP. Each dollar we send a card and a duck to pediatric patients, so we sent 64 cards and ducks as well. And for the people who donated over $5 they received a duck, stickers, and a Thank You card that we delivered. School is started August 10, and so now we need to get used to balancing school and Key Club. It’s exciting to start having new members and hopefully, we’ll see them at Division Events.

Amazing Apes Member of the month: Tiffany Lee (Westmoor):
She is one the most active members and always shows her enthusiasm and interest in Key Club without expecting anything out of it. Tiffany is always ready to help officers and participates in both club and division events.
Officer of the month: Anna Abelgas (Aragon): She has done an incredible job managing our instagram and never needs reminders from anyone to promote events. She also is always there if anyone needs anything done on a short notice. She also attends the majority of division and club events, and is always actively participating. In general, she’s just a light at events who’s always there to make us laugh and keep the conversation flowing.
Club of the month: Sequoia: This month’s Club of the Month is Sequoia! Even though they just recently became more involved within the division this past summer, they have grown so much as a club. Their officers are very involved, never afraid to ask questions, and are currently working on planning more service projects and inter-clubs. We look forward to seeing Sequoia grow even more this term!
