What’s Up, Aqua Apes! I have had such a great experience the past few days getting to meet all of you guys in-person at the recent events held, such as the August DCM and the Ice Cream Social! It was truly so much better than all of the online key club events because I got to bond with many more people and do fun things with you all. With this whole transition into the in-person learning and key club activities, I hope you guys don’t overload yourselves and stress too much about adjusting really quickly. This is a process that takes time, so remember to not be so hard on yourselves! Keep in mind that this month should be solely focused on member RECRUITMENT and hopefully RETENTION. This might be getting new key clubbers at club fairs and orientations, or making sure key club leaves a good impression through planned socials, service activities, and information sessions. Make sure that you guys participate this month with all the division-wide socials and service events in order to make and nurture key club connections. Also, don’t forget about FRN and RTC coming up! If you guys need anyone to contact or answer your questions, I am available at the email listed below. Courtney, our LTG, and basically anyone on the contacts information list at the end of this newsletter, can help you out whenever you need assistance. Good luck with the new school year and have a good day!
Love,
Kaelyn Fung

A Message From Your
Hey Key-uties! I can't believe we're approaching RTC and FRN season so soon! On top of starting school and transitioning to in-person Key Club, I know it's a very hectic and stressful time for a lot of us. Please remember to find ways to relax, destress, and get away from all the chaos for a bit. I'm here for you all always <3 On the topic of in-person Key Club, remember to organize in-person events with either just your club or others in the area! We want you all to still be able to serve and get the full Key Club experience without division-wide events. If you ever need any help, don't hesitate to reach out to me or our service coordinator Crystal Chu. We are also in the midst of club rush and dues season! Now more than ever is the best time to recruit members, get interest in dues, and educate your school on the wonders of Key Club! We have a lot of fun events to look forward to and want as many members to experience them as possible, so keep on the lookout for emails and instagram posts and promote them to your club!
Thanks,
Courtney Tai

5. Hi All! I hope you all enjoyed the Key Cup and our very first in-person DCM. It's fantastic that we're finally able to see each other in ways not through a screen! And although it may be difficult to adapt back into in-person school, I hope you're all enjoying your first few weeks back. I wish you all good luck in new member recruitment as the school year has just begun!
Thank You! Jasmine Bao Division Secretary jasbao777@gmail.com
Hey Aqua Apes! Hey Aqua Apes! It is back to school time and it has been 2 days of school and I already have tons of homework -_-, but we are all in this together and I wish you guys luck at the beginning of this school year. I'm excited to start seeing all of you guys at our in-person DCMs and other in-person events! Let's all remember to stay safe when going out because we still need to be careful! Hopefully, your club rush/fair is going good and you guys gain tons of new members. Well before I go, I'll give you guys some monkey brain wisdom. Number 1, don't overwork yourselves! Going back to in-person school can be challenging so make sure you get enough rest and don't stay up too late doing work! Number 2, don't let assignments stack up and do some of them when you have the chance because once you start work you'll keep ongoing. Hopefully you'll apply some of my monkey knowledge to the real world lol.
Good Luck <3 John Hillyard Executive Assistant jshihillyard@gmail.com
6. Hey Aqua Apes! I hope that you guys enjoyed your summer and had a great start in your school year. The first couple of weeks may be weird since we are back in classrooms, but I know you guys will do an amazing job. Even though it might be difficult to balance school and Key Club, you guys have been super productive in participating in service and fundraising events. For one, the Key Cup has come to the end and I am so proud that you guys were able to work together to do service and overall become closer with your teammates. Since school is up, let's do our best to keep our club's involvement with the division strong since this is when Key Club becomes really fun. Don't forget to take it easy every now and then because prioritizing your health is very important! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me :) while, but I can’t wait for us to get together again and perform our key club cheers because these are experiences that you will never forget. As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to talk. Stay safe everyone!
Thanks! Sean Sygaco Executive Assistant 122017ss@gmail.com
Hello! I hope you are all adjusting to school well. Summer may have ended, but school starting just means seeing your friends and recruiting new members for Key Club! This past month we have had lots of exciting events happen. We had the Key Cup and our first in-person DCM. I hope you guys were able to enjoy both events! I don't know about you, but I sure am super excited to see which house wins the Key Cup. I also hope you were able to get to know the other clubs in our house and make new friends! For September, we have some exciting stuff to look forward to. Hint, it includes a DCM with a super fun theme :) Anyway, can't wait to see you all at more in-person events, and I hope school goes well for everyone!

On July 22nd, Burlingame hosted our first division wide service event of the term, Cards for Hope! The purpose of this event was to create uplifting cards to include in Hope Kits, which contain sanitary items for kids in need. The card was meant to add a personal touch to the hope kits, and hopefully brighten a kid's day. We started off the event with a fun icebreaker. Then, there was about an hour of time for card making, where we were able to make our cards and listen to music. I was able to make 6 cards. Overall, I really enjoyed planning and hosting this service event and I look forward to planning more!
HARJYOT KAUR
At the Cards for Hope service event on July 22nd, we made mini cards to include BURLINGAME in Hope Kits, which are packages that contain sanitary items for children in need. The event was held over Zoom, and the main materials required were paper and drawing utensils. Each of the cards we created had a friendly note inside and was decorated with a colorful drawing, allowing everyone to display their creativity. The notes wished the recipients all the best for the school year ahead and aimed to brighten their mood. It was nice knowing our messages could help cheer up these children after the challenges many of them must have faced over the course of the last year. I’m glad we had the opportunity to bring some excitement and encouragement to them through these simple cards!
SWARAALI SAVE CARLMONT
Cards for Hope was a division event hosted by Burlingame. For this event, we made cards that’ll be put into Hope Kits, or sanitary packages for kids. I’m really glad that I was able to help someone get the necessary products that they need. After over a year of online events, this is one of the last ones, as we’re transitioning to in-person events. That’s pretty exciting, and I’m happy that one of our last online events was making cards.

Cards of Hope was one of our last service projects on zoom. We made cards that would be included in sanitary packets for kids. This event was hosted by Burlingame and it went really smoothly. I had a great time and really ANNA ABELGAS appreciated seeing Burlingame step up their game. Overall, it was really smooth. ARAGON

At the SF Village Cleanup Event, we all split up into groups to go around the neighborhood picking up trash. My group was assigned to clean up 3-4 blocks on the same avenue, and we all picked up lots of trash! Even though some areas may look clean, it was surprising to see so much trash when we took a closer look around the neighborhood. I enjoyed this event very much! I would love to do something like this again!
JOSHUA HUYNH LOWELL At the SF Village Cleanup, we partnered up with Refuse Refuse SF and worked with nearby communities to clean the streets. We split into groups and worked together to pick-up trash in the Inner Richmond neighborhood. This was our first in-person event so it was super exciting to meet new members for the first time! We also got to meet families from the neighborhood and they would tell us their stories as we cleared out each block. I really hope to partner up with them again as I enjoyed meeting new people and learning more about local communities!
SF Richmond Village Cleanup was Lowell’s first in person service event since quarantine. Members met at a cafe in the Richmond District, met the volunteers in charge, and then started the cleanup. We walked through a few blocks, picking up cigarette butts, plastic, and more. It was great to volunteer in person again and meet other volunteers. I was also able to see many Key Clubbers I haven’t seen in a long time and meet new Key Clubbers I’ve never seen in person. This event was a success and we hope to do more in person events going forward!

During the SF Village Cleanup, volunteers lent a hand in cleaning up the Inner Richmond area of the city. We were split in groups to each clean certain streets to max the area we covered. In the end, we were able to pick up all the trash from streets 5th to 10th, Fulton and Balboa. It was very cool to see people from the neighborhood come out and help. This was the first in-person event since COVID-19 and it was great to interact with our members and others in the community.

9. The Near Delivery Interclub was an interclub with Mills, Carlmont, and Sequoia. We made notes for incoming middle schoolers. It was fun to write these notes knowing that it will bring a smile to an incoming middle schooler. This event was a fun experience and hopefully we can do more of these in person!
CHLOE GAO MILLS
[ INTERCLUB ]
Carlmont Mills Sequoia I thought that the near delivery interclub was a fun event by writing positive messages to help incoming middle schoolers feel motivated! I also enjoyed listening to the music while writing and decorating the cards! Something I took away from this event is that handwritten notes with encouraging words can help others in many ways.

[ DCM ]
The July DCM was held over zoom, and featured split sessions of Jeopardy and Joke-Book Making. All the attending clubs were split into two groups, and given half the time for the service event portion and the other half for the social. The jeopardy games were masterfully executed, and the questions ranged from low to high difficulty about topics like Pop Culture and Key Club 101. The different breakout rooms were well managed, and it seemed like everyone was having fun answering the jeopardy questions or creating their jokebooks! The July DCM also included some exciting updates about the Key Cup and other upcoming division events.
MAYA KORNYEYEVA CARLMONT After the July DCM, attendees were divided into two groups; one would play Jeopardy and the other would make joke books for children. I was sorted into the first group and got to play Jeopardy first and it was actually quite a blast! After that, our group got put into the second break out room and we began making joke books. At first, I had no idea what to write so I ended up just looking some puns up on the internet. I color coordinated my joke book in line with the rainbow and it turned out super pretty!! I spent extra time on it so that there would not be any blank space on the note cards and the end result totally paid off :)
MELISSA HERNANDEZ SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
On top of going over division and club updates as usual,at the July DCM. Which included both social and service opportunities. For the service portion, we created joke books for Soaringwords, an organization that strives to increase self-healing in children and families. During our social, we had fun playing jeopardy with categories like Harry Potter and Key Club 101. With this DCM being hopefully our last one over Zoom, I can’t wait to see everyone in-person at our August DCM!

The Sending Sunshine interclub was a cute and wholesome way of spreading positivity. It was a pretty stress free environment for us just to have fun and decorate cards. The music was chill and we had a lot of time to make multiple cards or put more detail into them. It was also super uplifting knowing that these cards could possibly make them smile or make their day just a little bit better. I really hope that we get to do more events like these and spread more positivity.
SHELBY TENG LOWELL The Sending Sunshine was an interclub hosted by Lowell and El Camino. During this event, we were able to spread love by creating cards for seniors. Not only was I able to serve my community during this opportunity, I was able to do so in a creative way. It was great to be able to volunteer even during the pandemic, and I loved being able to see other high schoolers doing the same. Inspired by this event, I hope to continue serving my community while also having fun.

On the last day of July, our club along with El Camino's club held our monthly park clean up. We did what we usually do and went around the park cleaning any stray trash off of the floor. Since our Kiwanis Advisor, George, brought 3 buckets to collect trash in, the group split up into three different groups and covered the majority of the park. We had planned to have a picnic after the clean up and we did just that! People brought some really tasty and sweet picnic foods that were delightful!!
On Sunday at 8:00 AM, we set up a table at the Kiwanis garage sale located on Grand Ave. To raise money for our club, we sold a variety of preloved items such as clothes, jewelry, bags, etc. Those who passed by, came to check our booth and we answered questions. Many were curious about what key club was. Near the end of the sale, we went around and advertised our club's leftover pins and sold them to members of the Kiwanis club and people who were still shopping around. The garage sale ended at 3:00 and we counted the total amount of money that was made from the sales ($152).
13 . [ SOCIAL]
At the Division Movie Night on our division discord server, we watched Pixar's Luca. We all joined in the movie voice channel and then Evan started his live stream and we started to watch the movie. Luca was such a cute movie and it was really fun sharing our thoughts and reactions in the text channels in the discord. This was a super fun and chill social event and I look forward to them in the future!

The Luca Movie Night was a great social event despite our barriers of being online. The movie itself was really fun to watch and I’ve been meaning to watch it for a while now. And the fact that I was able to watch it with the rest of the Division just makes it even better! Overall, it was a fun social event and I look forward to more to come!

The In-Person Informational Workshop on July 3rd was Division 34 North's way of letting Key Clubbers know what to expect as events go back in person along with school. As usual, I was greeted by the scene of the officers cracking jokes with each other and inadvertently creating a calming and welcoming atmosphere. Then the presentation got underway and our lieutenant governor explained the different aspects of in-person Key Club events. I listened carefully and felt glad to have the resources needed to prepare, as I am someone who became part of Key Club during distance learning. I am also recovering from the agoraphobia that I developed near the beginning of the pandemic, so this workshop helped to ease my apprehensive feelings regarding leaving my house and being among my club somewhere else. Overall, I feel that the In-Person Informational Workshop was the perfect event for the division to hold before it starts getting back to its regular business. I look forward to seeing what's next for Key Club!
JOEL DJINGUEUZIAN ARAGON The In-person Informational Workshop was hosted by our LTG, Courtney Tai, at the beginning of the month of July. It was a great way to learn more about the transition to in-person events, especially since many like myself joined during quarantine and have never experienced service outside of Zoom! Courtney also led us through some spirit cheers that we will use at spirit events such as Fall Rally North (FRN), and explained the COVID protocols to be used to keep everyone safe even as the pandemic continues. Overall, it was a very engaging event that was helpful in giving members important updates about large scale conventions and how to incorporate spirit into our own events. I'm really happy that I attended and got to learn more about the transition!
MAYA KORNYEYEVA CARLMONT
Early July, our LTG Courtney hosted an informational workshop in the morning. The purpose of the workshop was for members to learn how our in-person return would look like once everyone returned to school. Although the workshop was early in the morning, as a member that joined during quarantine, it was really helpful to know how frequent events would be from now on. I also got to learn the traditional chants for big events coming soon like RTC and Fall Rally North. I hope there's another informational workshop soon for members joining this fall before larger events!
MARCELA ZARAGOZA-PADILLA ARAGON The informational workshop was a way for me to update the division on how in-person events will run, the necessary documents that need to be submitted, etc. Lots of clubs attended and were able to hear about how to host a dcm and fundraiser. I’m super excited to start having in-person events again! It will take some time for them to run smoothly but hopefully this workshop was informative to the clubs.

15 . During this service event, we were able to write cards for psychiatric patients. This reduced the stigma around talking about mental health. I hope that the people who receive these cards feel loved and motivated. They should be reminded that they matter in this world and that there are people who care about them. I'm glad that I was able to, hopefully, make someone's day with my card.
LAUREN NOBLEZA BURLINGAME At Do Send a Card, hosted by Notre Dame, we made cards for psychiatric patients. We started with a small icebreaker then learned what kind of messages we should be writing on our cards. It felt great supporting and caring for the patients and it was a great service event. At the end they showed us the mailing address to send our cards , too, as well as taking a picture with our cards.
JOHN HILLYARD ARAGON
During this service event, we made cards to send to psychiatric patients through the “Do Send a Card” program. This program brings in uplifting cards to give to those in psychiatric care. The goal is to remind the patients that they matter and to hopefully brighten their day. I enjoyed participating in this event, as I was able to take some time out of my day and dedicate it to helping those in difficult situations. Through this program and service event, I hope I am able to bring joy to someone or to many.
EVA NICHTER NOTRE DAME Notre Dame hosted the Do Send A Card event. During the event, we made cards for psychiatric patients through the Mental Health Association of San Francisco. The cards will hopefully cheer up the patients and bring some happiness to their day. The purpose of the event and making the cards was to reduce the stigma involved with mental health. I enjoyed writing the cards and hope that they will brighten people’s days.
MALLORY MOORE The event “Do Send a Card” was on NOTRE DAME August 1st and ended up being an amazing way to kick off the month! We were able to be creative and create beautiful cards for psychiatric patients to help them feel safe and cared for while eliminating bias around mental health treatment. I feel strongly for this cause, which made the event all the more fun to put my efforts into! I enjoyed being able to bond with others in the division while helping make a difference. I know that our letters will directly help someone struggling in the near future. Combining social issues with service was my favorite part of this event and I look forward to attending more that are the same way! I really enjoyed myself at this event and would love to volunteer for the charity again! BRITNEY FONG CARLMONT

Sparks Flashcards was an amazing division wide service event hosted by South San Francisco! Our goal with this event was to support Classroom Central and elementary school students heading back to school. I made colorful alphabet sets, but members had the opportunity to make many different flashcard activities. I have many educators in my family and thought this was a great way to serve underfunded classrooms. As we move back into in-person learning!

SPARKS Flashcards was a division-wide service event hosted by South City Key Club. We made a variety of educational flashcards such as sets for numbers, alphabet, months, animals, or anything else that is easy to learn. I made flashcards for colors and shapes and it was simple to make as all we needed were cardstock and markers. The flash cards were sent to Classroom Central, an organization that provides free materials to students in need of school supplies, so I'm sure that children will benefit from the flashcards. I really enjoyed this event since I’ve always loved creating physical sets of flashcards for all sorts of purposes. I’m glad that we could provide these materials that will help children to learn the basics and be successful at school!
JOCELYN OWEN CARLMONT
South San Francisco Key Club hosted Sparks Flashcards on Friday, July 16 from 3 to 4 pm. It was our first division wide service project of this term and we are glad to say that it went really well! We made flashcards that would help young children learn things such as their numbers and abc's. Some of the flashcards that other Key Clubbers made were so beautiful and well-made. I hope that these cards will be enjoyed by the kids!
ANDREW TA SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
During this event hosted by South San Francisco Key Club, we were able to make flashcards to help kids learn. I really liked this project because it was more than just an alphabet or numbers. We also got to do math and color flashcards, which can make a bigger impact than just the basics. I liked how everyone got to make different ones, so the organization got a variety of cards and we got to try multiple styles. I really hope the kids like the handmade learning cards!

17 . From the first time I heard about this event, I knew I wanted to participate in it. Making the flashcards was a great experience since there were many different kinds to choose from. Each set was satisfying to create because I was able to finish one after the other. I very much enjoyed this event. It was probably one of my favorite ones since the transition to Zoom and online service activities.
South San Francisco hosted one of our last online division wide service projects and it was a blast! We made educational flashcards for kids going back to school. It was a great event since we could relax and do a simple task while listening to some songs. Luckily, the cards were easy to make: just simple shapes or numbers. I’m very proud of South San Francisco for a successful event!

EL CAMINO In the month of July, our club focused on preparing for the upcoming school year. There was a very productive board meeting where we discussed fundraising strategies, recruitment, and future club activities. We also had a park cleanup with South City and had a small picnic afterwards. On August 8, we participated in the Kiwanis Garage Sale where we got service hours and made some money for the club. Going forward, all club activities will be with each other at school.
HILLSDALE Over this past month Hillsdale has been heavily focused on getting ready for the upcoming school year. In addition to preparing for the transition to all in-person meetings, we realize recruiting is super important and are gathering our resources for the fall club fair. Members and officers alike were able to attend events such as the July Dcm, Do Send a Card, and the Kiwanis Garage Sale. All of which were super enjoyable! We are currently planning to participate in The Key Cup by organizing an interclub with Carlmont and Sequoia. We can’t wait to see everyone at upcoming events!
LOWELL During the month of July, Lowell Key Club attended many online events as well as hosted our first in person events! Members attended the DWSs and had lots of fun playing jeopardy at the July DCM. On the club level, we wrapped up our month-long event, Charity Miles, where members walked, ran, or biked to raise money for March of Dimes. We also held our first club bonding game night which was a success, and had an interclub with El Camino where we created cards for seniors. Towards the end of July, Lowell hosted a neighborhood cleanup, where we were able to meet some members in person for the first time! Next month, we will be planning for in-person meetings at school.

MILLS July for our club was pretty relaxed compared to past months from this term due to vacations and summer activities, but we still made sure to participate in many of the events that were held! We attended division events, such as Spark Flashcards, Do Send a Card, and the July DCM. We also had an interclub event with Carlmont and Sequoia Key Club for an organization called Near Delivery where we wrote letters to middle schoolers coming back to school this school year. We are excited to be more involved in the upcoming few weeks as we gradually transition to in-person service and start fundraising again.
NOTRE DAME This month our club has been pretty busy. Along with attending division events like Sparks Flashcards and Cards For Hope, we also were planning one of our own. Our newly-formed Service Committee took the lead and organized our service event called "Do Send A Card" which was hosted on August 1st. Along with this, we also hosted a fundraiser. Our club made bracelets by hand for clubs to use during their club fair. Their members were also able to order a bracelet that said "key club" to show their spirit for our division. We managed to raise $200 for PTP, which surpassed our goal. We've spent lots of time planning for our school's club fair and Key Club 101 meeting, and we can't wait for recruitment. We hope to play a huge part in increasing our division's membership and meet lots of new freshmen!
WESTMOOR For the past month, we have had two general meetings. One meeting contained a service activity where we colored drawings for anyone in need of a smile, while the other meeting contained a fun social activity. The number of members has been relatively low, but the new school year will hopefully bring in more members. We held a movie night on July 14 to bond with our members. Our officers have continued to attend division events. This month, we plan to have an interclub to help our team succeed in the Key Cup. We also plan to have more social events, since the school year has finally started.
