Aloha Aqua Apes! Happy spooky season :D We're already halfway through the term, can you believe it? I'm so proud of everything our division has been able to accomplish in that time, and we're just getting started! We have so many more fundraisers and service events in store for you, including our annual Fall Rally North! Make sure you're attending the FRN preps to learn the cheers so we can win that spirit stick! I'm ecstatic to see you all decked out in spirit gear in the stands <3 The start of October also means the start of DUES SEASON! Now's the time to promote and get as many dues paid members as you can. There are countless benefits you can list: becoming an official Key Club member, attending large events and having insurance at them, getting an ID and pin, qualifying to run for leadership positions, and demonstrating your overall involvement and dedication to Key Club! If you need any help with paying dues or promoting your club, or have any general questions, I and your club treasurer are ready to answer them. Keep in mind that the early-bird deadline is fast approaching on November 1st, so be sure you've paid at least your officer's dues a week before! I realize that there's a lot happening in Key Club in conflict with school work, home responsibilities, and college applications and I empathize with how busy we all are. If you ever need advice on balancing it all, don't be afraid to delegate tasks to those who are less stressed (typically underclassmen), and I'm always here to talk!

Thanks,

Courtney Tai

5. Hey Aqua Apes! Wasn’t that Dare DCM amazing? I hope you’re all looking forward to the FRN Preps coming up! Here’s your reminder that you have to attend 2 to be eligible to go to FRN. It sounds like a bit of work, but I promise you it’ll be worth it!!! Good luck to anyone with testing coming up, and I hope to see you all soon :)

Thank You! Jasmine Bao Division Secretary jasbao777@gmail.com

Hey Aqua Apes! Hopefully, the start of school and getting back into the groove of in-person school is treating you well. I hope you are all SUPER excited for RTC because I know I am. I know we had it last year online, but RTC at camp Jones Gulch can't be replaced. Let's have lots of fun, meet new people, and learn lots of new things! Our dares DCM was super fun and I loved watching you guys suffer!! JK, but it was lots of fun and we raised lots of money! I really hope that your club rushes were super successful and you gained lots of new members! Remember to make your meetings memorable so we can retain members, and interact and talk with other members! That is what will grow our clubs. Wish you guys the best! Aqua Apes Fighting!!!

Good Luck <3 John Hillyard Executive Assistant jshihillyard@gmail.com

6. Hey Aqua Apes! I can't believe it's already October! I hope you guys are doing well and that your first month of school isn't too overwhelming for you. Throughout the month, I've seen you guys have been very productive in participating in many Key Club events, so keep up the great work! We have big events coming up this month such as RTC, so I can't wait to see us all together! Additionally, FRN will be coming up as well which is a fun event to celebrate your hard work. Just make sure to attend at least two spirit preps and pick up your spirit gear if you want to go. Of course, keep on looking out for many events and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to talk. Have a good one guys :)

Thanks! Sean Sygaco Executive Assistant 122017ss@gmail.com

What’s Up, Aqua Apes! Now that we are almost two months into school, I'm sure a lot of us have been extremely busy with homework. Don't worry, we have lots of super fun Key Club events coming up to help you take your mind off of school! For starters, we had our dares DCM— I hope you all were able to attend and see officers and members do crazy dares. Next, we have RTC in just a couple of days. For me, this will be my first time attending RTC in person, so I am extremely hyped. I hope you guys are too because I know our LTG's have been working hard to make sure RTC is a blast! I can't wait to see you all in person and meet all the new members :)

Thanks! Kristi Xia Executive Assistant kxia23@ndhsb.org

Shave the Day was an event hosted by Lowell Key Club. Shave the Day is an online game where you run and shave heads to earn money for childhood cancer research. The game gave us three lives, just in case if we bump into something; and once we lost those lives the amount of coins we received turned into money. It was a great opportunity to play a game and have fun, while raising funds for a good cause. Overall, we had a good time, by listening to music and talking to other Key Club members.

CATRIN JASSYNBAYEV CARLMONT Shave the Day by Lowell was hosted over Zoom. I think it was the first event we had done with a video game platform which I thought was really cool. We downloaded the game Shave the Day, similar to Subway Surfers where the player tries to dodge any sort of obstacles and earn coins. All of the coins we earned in the game as well as the heads shaved, would convert into real donations to fund children's cancer research. Everyone played as XtremeMan in the app for the duration of the event with a break every hour or so. I personally liked the event because it's very unique from other service events hosted this term.

MARCELA ZARAGOZA ARAGON

Shave the Day was a division-wide service event hosted by Lowell Key Club. During the service event, volunteers would download an app called Shave the Day and shave away. Shave the Day is an endless running game where you dodge to avoid obstacles, swipe to collect coins, and jump to shave the hair off heads. For every coin you collected, one cent would be donated to childhood cancer research. More money would be donated when you jumped to shave heads. I thought this event was a wonderful and fulfilling way to spend my time because I was having fun playing the game while raising money for childhood cancer research. The game felt different to play than other endless running games I have played before, so it did pose a little bit of a challenge, but it kept it interesting. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone with some spare time on their hands or wants to help fund childhood cancer research. Thank you to Lowell for hosting the event and introducing us all to this game!

D C M Toiletry Kit Service Event The August DCM was hosted by Carlmont. It was the first in-person DCM of the school year. We made toiletry kits and cards for the local homeless shelter. I enjoyed the event, it was also my first in-person DCM. It was great to be able to work on a service project together and great to see so many people in person. I am very excited for more upcoming in-person key club events!

MALLORY MOORE NOTRE DAME

On August 28th, 82 Key Club members (37 Carlmont members) attended our division’s first in-person DCM since lockdown. At the DCM, hosted by Carlmont, we made toiletry kits featuring the likes of towels and toothpaste and cards to accompany them for the homeless. The astounding turnout and number of attendees made it so that we completed the service portion of our event far earlier than we had anticipated. As someone who joined Key Club during lockdown, I had never attended an in-person DCM. I can say, with full confidence, that I thoroughly enjoyed our August DCM and it was an event that I will carry with me for a long time. After we had completed our tasks and service portion, members went on to play volleyball and spike ball (amongst others). It was great finally meeting and seeing fellow members and friends that I had made over Zoom, in person. Thank you to everybody involved in making this event happen! On Saturday, August 28th, the division held its first in-person DCM since the start of quarantine! There were around 90 people that RSVP’d to attend! After the club and division updates at the beginning of the DCM, everyone spread out to the tables set up hat held different parts that would go into the toiletry kit bags. In an efficient production line system, all the participating key clubbers quickly assembled hundreds of bags full of towels, toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste, and handmade cards. I loved this event so much and I got to meet all the key clubbers that I’ve only seen on zoom in-person. I regained that sense of community that Key Club nurtured through the quality conversations I had and through the quality service activities that were organized. Time passed by so fast while I was there. I hope to go to more of these division events soon!

Our August DCM was the first in-person one of the term! Just like many of the DCMs that were held over Zoom, we first went over division updates and our many member opportunities in the coming month. Being in-person allowed us to celebrate our amazing apes with tangible awards and take division pictures without the multiple slides of Zoom! We also made 300 toiletry kits with cards for our local homeless shelters during the service portion, which was amazingly organized by Carlmont. It was so exciting and refreshing to meet everyone we’ve been serving with virtually over the past year!

ABIGAIL LEE LOWELL

During the August DCM, we had our usual club and division reports. After the DCM, we make toiletries kits for the homeless. The toiletries included toothbrushes, towels, floss, handwritten notes by Key Clubbers, etc. In the handwritten notes, we wrote positive and uplifting messages for the homeless; when they open the kit they will have a smile on their faces!

VALARIE SITU SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO On August 28, 2021, I attended the September DCM. During this, I made toiletry kits for the homeless and wrote letters to them. My favorite part was getting to work together with other schools and with my friends to help out the people in need. Overall, I thought the event/project was fun and thoughtful and I would like to do something like it again.

NATALIA SANCHEZ EL CAMINO

The August DCM was a great experience meeting everyone in person! Considering how we have been hosting events online for a while, I was super excited to see everyone. I was shocked and am truly grateful to have received officer of the month too! Creating toiletry kits was truly a unique event that I enjoyed. I’m so excited for more in-person events together with everyone :))

CRYSTAL CHU ARAGON

The August DCM was at Mariners Park in Redwood Shores. We made sanitary kits, and boxed them for mailing. I made the mistake of wearing jeans to the DCM, so it was a little too hot. Besides that, it was pretty fun. As it’s the first time we had an in-person DCM in a while.

ALEKZ ALBERTO LOWELL

For our August DCM we hosted our first successful in-person event! We started off gathering everyone for the DCM. Then, Carlmont led our service portion of making 300 toiletry kits for a local homeless shelter. Carlmont did a great job organizing all the materials and all members participated in an organized assembly line. Afterward, we all made cards to go along with the bags and packed everything up to be sent off. To end off the event, Key Clubbers played some volleyball and spike ball. Overall the event was really successful and one of our most highly attended DCMs of all time! A special thank you to San Carlos Kiwanis Club and Carlmont for sponsoring and organizing the event!

On Sunday, August 29th, Mills and Carlmont had an interclub ice cream social at Mariner Park in Redwood City. After checking in with the COVID Liability Form and paying my ice cream fee, members stood around and socialized until we started to line up to pay for ice cream. During the social, people played spikeball, volleyball, talked, climbed trees, and ate ice cream. Toward the end of the social, key-clubbers had a chance to pay $5 for each person they wished to pie with a plate of whipped cream! I pied Sanjna, Ashley, and Iain, donating $15, and I myself got pied by Guillermo! It was so much fun to get to meet everyone from Carlmont, especially after just talking to them yesterday at the August DCM! The advisors and Carlmont board members were so nice and helpful, and I know they spent a lot of time on organizing this event. I am so grateful for their hard work and kindness. Hope to have another social soon and meet some more key clubbers this year!

11 . I attended the Youth Helping Youth Fair a few weeks ago, and it was a really great experience. This event was hosted in Golden Gate Park for students to come and learn about different organizations and how they could be a part of them. Lowell Key Club went on behalf of Key Club/Kiwanis. For the duration of the event we sat at our booth with signs, posters, and even a spirit stick, to help students learn more about Key Club. I had such a good time interacting with so many people, and I think this event really helped me improve on, not only my speaking skills, but it also helped me learn more about Key Club in the process.

GRACE PARK LOWELL

LOWELL

helping At the Youth Helping Youth Opportunity fair, we were able to meet youth from all over San Francisco that were interested in learning more about different student-led organizations such as Key Club. Once we got there, we decorated our table with different boards and posters explaining what Key Club was, along with pictures of events. There was also tons of spirit gear around to attract attention like a spirit stick and multiple event t-shirts. We would give speeches at our table about Key Club’s mission and how our club has worked all around SF with other schools to create an impact in the community. Overall, I really enjoyed this event because I found it fun to talk about all the events we’d done and the different levels of the organization!

JASMINE BAO LOWELL Lowell Key Club went to the Youth Helping Youth Fair a couple weeks ago. It was a fair led by students who are a part of many different youth led organizations. We got to talk to many students from all over the Bay Area and helped them get a better understanding of what Key Club was. This event helped me improve my public speaking and also build new connections with people from all over. I really hope that there will be more future events like these, to bring more people into Key Club, and educate them on what Key Club is.

MILLS

Annual Art and Wine

Each Labor Day weekend, Millbrae hosts the annual Art and Wine Festival where vendors for jewelry, clothing, food, art, etc. come to sell their goods along a blocked off street in booths. This year was the 50th anniversary of the festival and Mills Key Club got the wonderful opportunity to volunteer for the event! Our club ran the glassware and tokens booth for both Saturday and Sunday’s festival, where we would sell tokens to purchase alcohol and sell the wine and beer glasses that they could drink the beverages out of. So many older people of the community came and shared their stories while we were working the booth about how they’ve come each year and how grateful they were that the festival wasn’t cancelled due to COVID-19. I had such a heartwarming experience at this event because I not only got to talk to so many new people, but I also got to strengthen the bonds I had with fellow Key Club members while working alongside them for the two days I was there. THIS is what Key Club is about and what community-building looks like! I am so excited for what other fun and helpful opportunities our Key Club can participate in.

KAELYN FUNG

The event I volunteered at, on Saturday Sept. 4, 2021, was the Art & Wine festival. During my shift, I did a bit of each: helped give out change, assisted in explaining what each chip and cup's significance for the fair were, and restocked the cups and chips when they ran out. Not only did I get to practice some of my soft skills, but I also learned how to do monetary transactions through the portable credit/debit card machine. For me, organizing cash transactions was something I hadn't done in a while, so it was a bit challenging doing it quickly, but it gave me a look into an experience as a cashier, which was very interesting and exciting.

13 . Volunteering at the Millbrae Art and Wine Festival was a fun experience! I got to interact with a lot of people who came to the booth to buy glasses and tokens. It was a great experience because I got to help my community and meet new people who have been going to the festival since it first started. I also got to walk around and see all the vendors that were selling things after my shift was over. I enjoyed volunteering here and hopefully in the future, we get to do this again!

CHLOE GAO

The Art and Wine Festival is a two day event where small businesses sell products and food! A good amount of Broadway street in Millbrae is closed for this yearly event. Three other fellow Key Clubbers and I operated a booth where we sold beer and wine glasses to people. In the booth, we wrapped the glasses and managed the cash box/card reader. Overall, I think that volunteering for the Art and Wine festival was a fun experience!

KATY KWOK

Volunteering at the Art and Wine Festival was a very enjoyable experience that I would definitely do again. We helped with selling the 50th anniversary glasses and the tokens for the beer and wine. Although it was very hot, I enjoyed meeting new people young and old at the festival and hearing their stories. Many of them have been going to the Art and Wine Festival since the very first one or were alumni of our school.

HAYLEY WONG

On Labor Day weekend, Mills Key Club volunteered for the Art and Wine Festival. During my shift, I sold tokens and glasses to our customers and helped them with any questions they had. I also asked for people’s IDs to check if they were old enough to purchase and drink alcohol and stamped them to signify that they are 21 or older. Overall, I thought that this experience was very enjoyable to interact with our community.

Fundraiser On 9/10/2021, I attended the Tpumps fundraiser. During this, I helped pass out the drinks. My favorite part was giving away the drinks. My biggest takeaway from this event was that it's fun selling drinks with the company. I thought the event was a success considering how fast we sold out.

CALVIN FLORES

On September 10, I attended the Tpumps boba fundraiser. During this, I helped pass out boba. My favorite part was telling jv to shut up. My biggest takeaway was that we didn’t buy enough boba. Overall I thought the event was fun.

On august 14th I attended the first earth day planting day. Where we planted plants and put soil in beds. I arrived at 9:30 and stayed until 12pm. Taking plants out of the bucket and putting it in the beds was very fun and I was also with my friends. After that, we cleaned up and went home.

KYLIE SITU

Our school's Earth Club has been planning to create an outdoor learning space. This means that the campus would have a space where students are able to relax and eat lunch outside, in the sun and near lots of plants!! August 14th was the first day that they began planting and I was surprised by how fast we were able to get things done. The group of people that showed up were all divided evenly and this helped us tackle more ground in a shorter amount of time. I am looking forward to working on this learning space in the future :)

Gryffindor House Interclub

ARAGON, EL CAMINO, SSF, ST. IGNATIUS

We had an interclub with El Camino, South City, Saint Ignatius, and Aragon. We first explained what our cause was and how to make the bookmarks. We then worked for about 45 minutes while listening to music. We had a relaxing time listening to music and working on bookmarks. In the end, we reviewed how to mail it in to the organization, and then took a picture together. This was all to build points for the Key Cup, our house is Gryffindor!

JOHN HILLYARD ARAGON

The event was super chill but also we got a lot done. There were a couple of us there, just working on bookmarks. Everyone did a very good job of making creative and unique bookmarks. We all made a sizable amount while giving each other ideas!

CARLMONT

Homework Social Hour + Letters to St. Jude's was an interactive and spirited charity event run by Ethan Moussa and Miriya Mayenkar. Students got the opportunity to ask questions on homework and work with other students in a collaborative environment. I had a great time as I spent time talking to friends while we worked on our homework in Zoom breakout rooms. In the second half of the event, we made online cards for St. Jude patients, which was also a fun activity. I would recommend this event for all as it is a constructive way to spend a few hours after school and earn service while interacting with friends, and I would consider doing this event again.

BURLINGAME In August, our club worked with the rest of the Hufflepuff House (Jefferson, Notre Dame, and Westmoor) to create an interclub event called Love Letters for Literacy. We hosted our event on August 21, and had a pretty good turnout! We’ve also had some of our members go to the August DCM, where we packed toiletry kits for those in need. We are currently working on our plans to reach our member, fundraising, and service hour goals, and plan to recruit new members sometime within the next month when the club fair happens!

CARLMONT Throughout the month of August, Carlmont Key Club worked hard to recruit new members through the freshman orientation, two informational key club meetings, and freshman history presentations. We also hosted the August DCM where we made a total of 300 toiletry kits and cards that we are planning to donate to local shelters. There were a total of 80+ attendees and it was so great to finally meet everyone in person. Additionally, we also hosted an ice cream social the day after the DCM where we raised $219 for our club through an officer pie in the face challenge. We are continuing to host our weekly meetings and preparing for FRN and RTC. We have also partnered with many other organizations to bring in-person events like the Palo Alto Moonlight Run and a Coastal Cleanup to our members!

EL CAMINO In the month of August, El Camino ramped up many club activities. These activities included the Kiwanis Garage Sale, Club Rush, a Tpumps fundraiser, a Westborough Park Cleanup, and the initiation of club committees. Thanks to a very successful club rush, El Camino gained over 80 sign-ups. This gave us many new members to help grow this club. On the fundraiser end, we’re working on establishing a steady income every month so that our club can pay for fun field trips in the future. The Fundraising Committee is in charge of financial decisions and processes that happen in the club. For service events, the Service Committee is in charge of rolling out service events for our members. Overall, August was a very productive month for us!

HILLSDALE In the month of August Hillsdale prepared our club fair booth and successfully attended the club fair while acquiring 6 times the number of members we had last term! We have also continued our monthly board meeting and discussed RTC and payment/transportation plans. Hillsdale Key Club also held their first general meeting in which many people showed outstanding interest! Members and officers of our club also attended the August DCM. We are currently planning on attending RTC as well as other upcoming events such as the Newbee social, FRN prep, and the September Dares DCM.

LOWELL During the month of August, Lowell hosted our first DWSP, Shave the Day, where members played the game Shave the Day to raise money for childhood cancer research. We also hosted our last online general meeting! Since school started, we held two info meetings for prospective members and will start weekly general meetings. We have an upcoming in person beach cleanup event and will release our internship applications. We are looking forward to gaining new members and going back to in person meetings and events!

MILLS For the past month, Mills Key Club has gained more members and has jumped up in member activity through the events we've been holding recently. We've participated in division events such as the August DCM, engaged in an Ice Cream Social Interclub with Carlmont, and volunteered on Labor Day weekend for the annual Millbrae Art and Wine Festival. Our membership definitely boosted during the festival, where we worked from 9:30A-5:30P in shifts for both days of the weekend and held a side fundraiser at the booths we were working at. We made a lot of money from donations from the festival coordinators and from our fundraiser sales. Mills is currently planning for our club fair on the 21st of September and for our first meeting on the 22nd! We are planning on attending the September Dares DCM, upcoming FRN Preps, and planning club-coordinated socials and service events.

24 .

NOTRE DAME This month has been an extremely exciting one for us! Notre Dame had Club Fair on the 3rd, and we got 150 sign-ups. We are having our first general meeting on the 16th and can't wait to meet all the new members. We had an amazing booth at Club Fair and got many compliments on the bracelets and brochures that we handed out too! Besides this and prepping for our first general meeting, we haven't been very busy. We hosted Do Send A Card on the 1st and participated in our Interclub for the Key Cup, but otherwise, service events have been limited due to lots of hecticness surrounding the start of school. Our members can't wait for the dares DCM and big events like FRN and RTC!

SAN MATEO This month, the club officers worked on starting up the club again for the beginning of school. We set up a meeting time and location and had our first club meeting. We presented a meeting on the basics of Key Club and introduced concepts like dues, DCMs, the MRF, and more. We had a good turnout of about fifteen to twenty people. We are also planning potential fundraisers for the semester, and working on recruitment, specifically underclassmen. We have also had officer meetings to plan out the upcoming volunteer club fair that our school is holding. We’re very excited to start off this school year and we know it’ll be successful.

WESTMOOR For the past month, we have had our first in-person general meeting, which is also our first general meeting during the school year and our first general meeting with our new faculty advisor. The meeting was a success, and the number of people who came to our meeting largely increased. We held an interclub event with Burlingame, Jefferson, and Notre Dame where we made flashcards to help children learn how to read. Thanks to the increase in membership, there were a good number of members who attended our interclub. We are now transitioning into weekly general meetings, and we are currently waiting for Club Rush to recruit more members. We are all excited for the upcoming events coming this month and next month.
