Lieutenant Governor’s Message Hello and Happy February! As we settle into the new year, there are a few things you should keep in mind as we approach the end of the term, so make sure to keep reading those update emails and Facebook group posts! The first would be recognition. You’ve done a lot of great work this term, and what better way to recognize all that work than be receiving money from scholarships or walking across the stage at DCON 2018 in front of thousands of people? If you’re looking for a way to apply for scholarships or apply for awards on the district level, then you should check out all the options on the CyberKey! They are all awesome opportunities for YOU to earn back the things you gave this term. What else is new? How about elections and DCON?! There is no better way to prepare for the next term than by electing your new officers and attending DCON 2018. For elections, make sure that officers and members are all following the guidelines and procedures to make sure each election is valid. Be sure to meet quorum, have unbiased voters, and maintain confidentiality when running elections. If there are any specific questions about elections, you can always ask your officers or myself! For DCON 2018, make sure to be preparing for that NOW! Transportation options are available and the registration deadlines are fast approaching! If money is an issue, contact your local Kiwanis club or fundraise to alleviate costs. DCON is such an awesome and important event that marks the end and start of something amazing. You’ll get to meet people from 3 different states, make new friends, and learn so much from all the workshops provided. As always, if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything feel free to contact me! I am always here you my Aqua Apes <3 See you all soon! With the spirit of service, Kayla Tai Division 34 North Lieutenant Governor

o round out 2017, Aragon Key Clubbers attended the K-Mart shopping event before hunkering down for finals week. Over 15 Key Clubbers from Aragon attended and had a great time doing community service! As we look to 2018 and the end of our term, Aragon Key Club looks to attend regularly at our local Samaritan house and go to service events at San Bruno Mountain and Coyote Point. Club Elections are also on the horizon for February and we expect a great field of candidates for the officer positions of our club! -Alex Ma

Westmoor

On December 23rd, Westmoor

Key Club had an ice skating social with two other volunteering clubs on our campus. In the month of January we are focusing on trying to help our members understand the true impact of volunteering by using various methods, Recently we have done this by advertising the March for Babies Webinar. Another sole focus for this month and the coming month is to try to fundraise for PTP. We are currently planning for a fundraiser during Valentine’s Day and hoping to raise money in our school’s International Foods Day Event. -Samantha Chen

Eve

Breakfast with Santa at San B

reakfast with Santa was a spirited, joyful event hosted by the San Carlos Adult Community Center. Handing out plushies, pancakes, bacon, and candy canes to children was delightful as we got to see smiles on their faces. The most adorable part was seeing the children on Santa’s lap and families enjoying the food and time with others. As joyful Christmas music played, we dressed in the spirit of the holidays, handed out more servings of food, and befriended new people. Although we had to clean up at the end of the event, it was worth it: the satisfaction of seeing kids with smiles and families bonding was heart-warming (a good heart ache). I would most definitely do this event again, seeing kids full of joy makes it seem as if I weren’t volunteering. We ended up having a total of 10 volunteers, accumulating 40 hours :D Millicent Ku, Carlmont

SF Marin F O

n January 13, I went to the San Francisco Marin Food Bank with some other people to volunteer. We went there for a three hour shift. During the first half, we made food boxes for the elderly who need it. I was in charge of putting the bags of rice into the box in the assembly line. The manager who was watching over the process was very nice and funny. During the second half of our shift, we repackaged hundred pound bags of rice into one pound bags. We do this so that the rice can feed as many people as possible. We spilled a lot of rice on the table when we didn't seal it properly, but the table is really clean so there was no waste. The total pounds of rice repackaged was 2,100! Each one pound bag of rice if about one meal for a family of 4. The rice that we repackage go to soup kitchens, families, the Salvation Army, and others of the 450 organizations that the food bank helps. It feels great to spend my time doing this knowing that it makes a difference in someone else's life, rather than wasting time procrastinating and not doing anything. I was surprised that during this shift, there were many elementary school students there volunteering there with their parents in a school organized event. Overall, it was fun volunteering at the food bank Queenie Lam, South San Francisco
