Lieutenant Governor’s Message H

appy New Year everyone!

Can you believe it is already 2018?! Wow, time sure flies by fast! Of course, along with the new year comes the time of the term where we start to think about what next year will look like. There are some important things that you should be keeping in mind as you craft your new years resolutions, and here they are: Make sure that you are reaching your goals! Whatever goal you set at the beginning of the term, whether it was for yourself or your club, make sure that you are continuing to strive for it! Shift focus or adjust your goals so they are more achievable. Another resolution you can make is to plan for the next term. This could mean preparing for future elections, building a strong membership base (especially if your entire club is of one particular class (especially of seniors)), or plan for your own future Key Club adventure! One last thing to keep in mind is leaving a legacy behind. You can decide what you want your legacy to be as you continue to live your Key Club journey! Whether you are an officer hoping to improve and strengthen your club, or a member hoping to take on a higher position next term, make sure to take those necessary steps towards that goal! I hope you have all enjoyed your winter break and are ready to take on the next year in your Key Club journey! As always, if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything feel free to contact me! I am always here you my Aqua Apes <3 Please contact me if you have any questions :-) See you all soon! With the spirit of service, Kayla Tai DIvision 34 North Lieutenant Governor

Lowell Over the past month we raised money at our school’s Fall Festival, planted trees at the Sisterhood Garden, and helped out at Santafest. We sold Banana Splits at Fallfest and raised a lot of money. We helped fill up the Sisterhood Garden with many plants. At SantaFest we helped set up and supervise the children. -Jason Fong

Aragon

Holiday season is near, and service is all the cheer! Aragon Key Club has been busy at work with service events! We volunteered at the Central Park Rose Garden event as well as the event at San Bruno Mountain. We also helped out at the teenage center in Foster City with their annual holiday party and at Hillsdale shopping mall with their ORT gift wrapping event. Looking at the end of this year, we plan on attending the December DCM and the annual K-Mart shopping event where Key Clubbers will have the opportunity to take kids in need shopping at K-Mart for the upcoming holiday season. We hope to end 2017 on a high note and keep going in 2018! -Alex Ma

Westmoor

For the past couple months, Westmoor Key Club has been very active with helping the community, as it is the holiday season. On Saturday, November 18th, Westmoor Key Clubbers dedicated 4 hours of their weekend to help pass out flyers for the Second Harvest Food Bank at the local Safeway. On December 3rd, and 10th, our Key Clubbers volunteered at the Girls on the Run 5K and The Great Santa Run. This weekend Key Clubbers will be helping out at St.Anthony’s for the Free Clothing Program. In the upcoming weeks we will be having a social with 2 other clubs on our campus which is also the same day as the DCM! -Samantha Chen

South San Francisco This month, South San Francisco has been attending holiday events such as cookie packaging and Santa comes to town. We’ve done salvation bell ringing, gift wrapping and food packaging as well. We also had a Happy Lemon and Krispy Kreme fundraiser. El Camino This past month El Camino Key Clubbers have volunteered at the the Martin Elementary School Fall Carnival and the local Boy and Girls Club Monster Bash (also a carnival). We had a record performance of FRN attendees from our club, 19 Key Clubbers, which was more than in recent years. We plan to carry on the passion for service and Key Club into the holiday season. We are planning to help work the Kiwanis Safeway Holiday Food Drive this weekend and several other events in the next two months, including a holiday cookie packaging event and a community food packaging event where we will help pack hundreds of holiday boxes filled with food and other supplies that will go to families in need throughout South San Francisco. We are also planning a Secret Santa event for the December DCM and a movie night (movie is TBD). We are excited for the holiday season! -Umar Patel

San Mateo This month, San Mateo has spent time celebrating the closing of the year with some bonding and service events. In November, we helped our school close out the Canned Food Drive by contributing to over 100,000 pounds of food towards our community. In addition, we have revamped our mode of communication, creating our club website and preparing it for launch in 2018, and working closely with our members to ensure we created events that were interesting and helped causes that interested them. This month, we look forward to the KMart Shopping event, and are excited to start off the new year stronger than ever. -Krithika Thanigaivelan

Eve Alta Loma Middle O

n November 29th, December 7th, and 8th, The South City Key Club participated in helping Alta Loma Middle School with their production of Sherlock Holmes. We arrived around 4pm, and helped served the kids lunch. We then cleaned the auditorium, and managed the front of the house. Some members helped the pit of the production perform music. Once the play ended, around 8, the club stayed for another hour cleaning up, packing the outfits and costumes, and praising the cast for their excellent performance. The club left ALMS around 9-10pm. -Jesse Salumbides (South San Francisco)

Key Leader Before leaving for Key Leader, I was feeling apprehensive about

what the weekend would bring. I didn’t know much about what I was going to be doing there since there wasn’t a set schedule. But I met so many new people and came to love being part of the Kiwanis family. I’m so glad I made the decision to sign up for Key Club at Carlmont High School. I got to learn more about what it means to be a part of a community and how you can make a difference and serve in your society. There were so many fun activities like the ropes course where you learn how to build teamwork. In addition to learning the importance of helping others, I learned about developing his leadership qualities. It was an amazing experience and all new Key Clubbers should go to a Key Leader weekend. -Sanika Modkharkar (Sequoia)
