Lieutenant Governor’s Message Hello and Happy February! As we settle into the new year, there are a few things you should keep in mind as we approach the end of the term, so make sure to keep reading those update emails and Facebook group posts! The first would be recognition. You’ve done a lot of great work this term, and what better way to recognize all that work than be receiving money from scholarships or walking across the stage at DCON 2018 in front of thousands of people? If you’re looking for a way to apply for scholarships or apply for awards on the district level, then you should check out all the options on the CyberKey! They are all awesome opportunities for YOU to earn back the things you gave this term. What else is new? How about elections and DCON?! There is no better way to prepare for the next term than by electing your new officers and attending DCON 2018. For elections, make sure that officers and members are all following the guidelines and procedures to make sure each election is valid. Be sure to meet quorum, have unbiased voters, and maintain confidentiality when running elections. If there are any specific questions about elections, you can always ask your officers or myself! For DCON 2018, make sure to be preparing for that NOW! Transportation options are available and the registration deadlines are fast approaching! If money is an issue, contact your local Kiwanis club or fundraise to alleviate costs. DCON is such an awesome and important event that marks the end and start of something amazing. You’ll get to meet people from 3 different states, make new friends, and learn so much from all the workshops provided. As always, if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns about anything feel free to contact me! I am always here you my Aqua Apes <3 See you all soon! With the spirit of service, Kayla Tai Division 34 North Lieutenant Governor

Lowell This past month we had more people go to

Conclave compared to last time. We also volunteered at the Kaiser Run. Our club election is this coming up and I hope the next group of officers will make the next term better than this one.

San Mateo This month, San Mateo has been actively volunteering and prepar-

ing for the transition into the new term. After the Coyote Point Cleanup, members became more interested in end of term service events, and have approached us with several ideas, including our upcoming mural project. In addition, we have been preparing for our next fundraising cycle which will close out the term. We have also begun advertising elections, and are preparing candidates for the big day, by providing resources and working with them. Next month, we look forward to finishing strong and making a real impact in the community. -Krithika Thanigaivelan

Westmoor T

his month Westmoor Key Club has been focusing more on the fundraising aspect of Key Club. On February 9th, we had our annual International Foods Day at Westmoor. This is an event where all the clubs on our campus sell foods from different cultures to raise money and embrace different cultures. Our club sold burritos and we sold out! We also held a fundraiser by selling succulents in mason jars that the Key Club executive board members made by hand. Attached to these succulents were cards designed by one of our Key Club members, Miranda Lee. -Samantha Chen

Eve Coyote Point My experience at the Coyote Point Park Clean Up was enjoyable and

filled with fun activities that required hard work and dedication. I found that gathering as a community to take care of our environment made me more appreciative and aware of the beauty of nature and all the simple tasks we can perform to maintain its attraction. The service was very organized, and all the students who participated were approachable and willing to do as asked. I felt very safe and well supervised during the event, as there were knowledgeable leaders that surrounded me the majority of the time. I loved that the Kiwanis Club provided volunteers with the opportunity to mingle with other people from different local high schools, as that is not something that happens daily. I also appreciate the small snacks and refreshments supplied early in the morning, as they provided a great source of energy and motivation. A suggestion I have for the future would be to further monitor group members by making sure that they are staying on task and not overusing their electronic devices. Although in an outdoor environment, there were some occasions where students wandered off or became too wild, however, all tasks did result in being accomplished. Overall, I benefited from the event, and am excited to continue attending the Carlmont Key Club plans, as it is a great chance to give back to the society. -Audrey Luey, Carlmont

Hot Chocolate Run The Hot Chocolate Run was a super fun event where everyone had to wake up super early and help pass out cups to runners. We had to fill up cups with water and made sure to always have a cup on hand to pass out to thirsty runners. Lots of people from our club and there were also people from Interact and Heart in Motion, so I got to meet lots of other volunteers that weren’t from my club. At the end, we got to flip the tables and pour out all the cups which was really fun. This event is one that I would love to come to again! -Alec Chen, Lowell

Westborough Park Cleanup

From 9am to 12am, 4 members and 3 officers along with Advisor George Kranen, came together to beautify the local Westborough Park. We pulled weeds and picked up trash along the sidewalks and park area. This event was a great success as we all contributed to our community and became closer as a club.

Kaise At the Kaiser Run, Lowell Key Club and I worked at the package drop off. Runners came to drop off their clothes and belongings and we had to run to put them into garbage bags. The job was super fun and exhilarating as we were always working and everyone was busy talking to runners, dashing towards garbage bags, and calling out orders. There were other volunteers that worked alongside us and we were the first shift for Key Club. The other Key Club shift volunteered a couple hours after us and they were on the actuall course passing out water. Lots of people showed up to volunteer for Lowell and it was a really great and interactive event! -Alec Chen, Lowell
