EDITOR's Note As the new president of Isleworth Realty, I have spent a great deal of time listening and learning from the residents of Isleworth since stepping into this role earlier this year. Here’s what I learned. Our residents live their lives full of passion and heart. And many of their most meaningful experiences are tied to Isleworth. One Isleworth resident said it best – You don’t move to Isleworth because of a house, you move to Isleworth for Isleworth. When our residents refer to our community as a way of life rather than simply a place to live, I believe it, I feel it, and now I certainly understand it.

ABOVE: Isleworth Sculpture Tours BELOW: Lakefront Tours with Isleworth Realty

As our team considered the content for this issue of Isleworth Living, we carefully contemplated how we might capture the magnificence of Isleworth – the way our residents portray it – on a printed page. While it may be impossible to fully capture, this issue is an attempt to illustrate the tremendous spirit and standards that define this community. Celebrating our 25th year as a community this year, we realize how quickly time has flown by. But we also recognize Isleworth is just as great today as it has ever been. The grass is just as green, the flowers bloom just as beautifully, and our residents enjoy the same exceptional level of service and security our community has always guaranteed. Our legendary golf course continues to earn the same global acclaim. Members still recognize Isleworth’s clubhouse as a superb dining experience serving the kind of extraordinary food and personal service that only our award-winning chefs and talented staff can deliver. Our children’s program continues to be recognized among the best, and the more than 200 Isleworth children who get to enjoy it year-round agree.

BELOW: Explore the Glaziers’ hidden oasis behind the gates of Isleworth

We are aware the world is unpredictable and filled with economic uncertainty, but we also know Isleworth remains timeless. Our community continues to attract the finest families who can live anywhere in the world, yet choose to make Isleworth home. Thirty-five of Isleworth’s original families are still a vibrant part of the community today. In the real estate world, we have many ways of measuring value. Bricks and mortar alone don’t define Isleworth’s value. Isleworth’s inimitability and real value lies within its people, who are invested here financially and emotionally. For the long haul. These are the standards that make me so proud to be associated with a community like Isleworth and the same values we strive for at Isleworth Realty. Special thanks to all the residents who provided me with outstanding insight on what it means to live here. I’d like to extend an invitation for others to do the same. Looking forward to learning how we can be of service to you for the next quarter century.

Welcome to

ISLEWORTH

Isleworth - a place that never fails to inspire. The unspoiled beauty of this 600-acre patch of land nestled amid the Butler Chain of Lakes has long attracted generations of notable families. In the late 19th century, the Chase Family recognized the worth of this place and built a home and a thriving citrus operation among the lush orange groves protected by the insulating surrounding Butler Chain of Lakes. Almost a century later, Arnold Palmer realized its potential for a world-class golf course and country club and led its transformation from a vibrant citrus grove to a dream golf community. In 1993, the Lewis family reimagined the community, planting thousands of trees and flowers, installing a collection of important sculptures, and constructing grand estates fostering the most exquisite architecture to create one of the finest communities in the world.

WHAT’S LIFE LIKE AT ISLEWORTH? Hear what our residents have to say.

“When we moved from a small community in the Midwest to Isleworth, we wondered whether we would find a “community fabric” similar to what we were used to. We quickly learned Isleworth was indeed a special place that is much more vibrant than we initially thought. Like most, Angie and I were attracted to Isleworth for the beauty and great golf the community offered. But what we love most are the family night activities and seeing members, children and grandchildren all playing together. It is very easy to fit in at Isleworth. Angie and I have loved our seven years here.”

Rick & ANGIE Workman “To us, Isleworth is home for so many reasons. We all sense it once we’re inside the gates. It’s the security we feel once inside the community. It’s the tennis for the girls, golf for the boys and Camp Isleworth in the summer. It’s the pick-up kickball games with the neighborhood kids. It’s the perfectly maintained grounds. It’s the bike rides, the walks and the beautiful Central Florida sunsets. It’s the great food at the club that makes it our favorite place to eat. It’s the staff that treats us all like family.”

Ryan & SARAH Longwell

“A day in Isleworth plays out something like this for us. The babies are strapped in, and our black puggle Cosmo is excited, as usual, to begin our morning ritual. Our daily morning walk takes us under the tunnel from Hole 15 to the butterfly garden where the baby quail enclosure is bustling with activity. We cannot wait for their release next spring on the Hole 9 fairway. Our usual suspects are out and about on Lake Louise Drive. The greenskeepers are creating a buzz around the greens, stopping only to give Cosmo a smile and sometimes a quick pat. Dan is surveying the course and its conditions at this hour, one of his favorite rituals. I am contemplating a yoga class, a swim at the club, or a ladies clinic at the tennis club. So many fabulous options, and the weather is perfect to ride my bike to whichever activity I choose. Our weekly lunch date at the club always begins with our bartender Nick awaiting us with our favorite drinks in hand. Our server Jared is always prepared to accommodate my latest health kick. Dan and the boys are playing golf today. No tee time required, so who knows what time the Hole 15 pit stop may occur. I stop to admire Philip Jackson’s Cloister Conspiracy sculpture, a piece of art that brings me unending delight. Family night tonight offers an Asian theme my favorite. The kids play basketball, table tennis, and tumble in the bouncy castle while we enjoy a parental reprieve – a glass of crisp Sauvignon Blanc. Then home in time for the incredible sunset over Lake Butler. Bliss.”

Few appreciate the lakefront lifestyle the way Dianne Duvall can. Lakes have been the center of her life for as long as she can remember. Dianne Duvall met her late husband on a lake during a summer vacation in Myrtle Beach as a tenth-grader. “Our first date was a waterskiing date,” she said. “We both had a love for waterskiing.”

Dianne Duvall, real estate expert with more than 20 years of experience.

When the diehard waterskiing couple married and had children, waterskiing became a family affair. It was only a matter of time before their two tots took to the water on skis. Camille Duvall-Hero, their eldest, learned to ski at age 4. Little brother Sammy Duvall promptly followed suit. The youngsters quickly mastered the three primary disciplines of waterskiing - slalom, tricks and jumping - on the family’s private ski lake in Greenville, S.C. The Duvalls soon began grooming their children for the competitive circuit. “We started them with water ski coaches, we would jump on planes to fly to other competitors’ areas, and we traveled the world to take part in competitive tournaments,” Dianne Duvall said.

ISLEWORTH Living 18

Both children became world-class skiers, setting records and earning national and world titles. In the meantime, Dianne Duvall was excelling in her own field.

“It helps buyers who are looking for lakefront property to have a realtor who knows what lakes suit the type of activities they are interested in.”

Di anne D uval l She came to understand every nuance of the waterskiing world by being a part-time ski trainer and boat driver to her children and a committee member for the World Water Ski Championships. She became intimately familiar with Central Florida’s lakes, spending as much as six months a year with her children in Orlando, home to the nation’s best waterskiing trainers and schools and dozens of world champions. “We were coming here every year for almost a decade so Sammy and Camille could be close to their coaches,” she said. The Duvalls eventually made Orlando their

full-time home and Windermere’s Butler Chain of Lakes their primary training ground. During their time in Central Florida, the brother-and-sister team made an indelible mark on the sport of waterskiing. Sammy Duvall is a six-time world champion and six-time world record holder. Camille Duvall-Hero is a fivetime world champion and was named Sports Illustrated’s 100 Greatest Female Athletes of the Century. Both were inducted into the Water Ski Hall of Fame. Dianne Duvall made a mark, too. Many recognize her as a valuable resource when it comes to purchasing lakefront real estate in Central Florida. With more than 20 years of real estate experience, Dianne Duvall has helped countless buyers locate the right lakefront property, thanks to her long and varied experiences with lake systems. She has sold more than a dozen lakefront homes and lots within Isleworth alone.

Sammy Duvall, Six-Time World Champion

Dianne Duvall also brings a unique level of service to lakefront buyers — a hands-on experience. When Dianne Duvall introduces prospects to lakefront living in Isleworth, she begins the process with a leisurely boat ride down the Butler Chain. During the scenic lake cruise, she casually educates them with little-know facts about the lake chain. “Many don’t know that Bird Island is a fun little place to teach children to water ski because of its sandy beaches,” she said. “And Lake Bessie, Lake Down and Lake Pocket are the chain’s best lakes for waterskiing because they all have slalom courses.” Her boat ride culminates with a picnic lunch at Isleworth’s boat ramp delivered by an attentive Isleworth clubhouse staff member. “Taking buyers out on a boat really helps them understand and imagine themselves living the lakefront lifestyle” she said. “Once they experience it, it’s not something they’ll soon forget.”

“It helps buyers who are looking for lakefront property to have a realtor who knows what lakes suit the type of activities they are interested in,” she said.

Florida's History Inspires Isleworth Home

Railroad baron and oil tycoon Henry Morrison Flagler has long been praised for turning Florida into one of the nation’s top tourist destinations after linking the state’s entire east coast by train. Malek and Patty Hanano credit Flagler for influencing the design of their palatial home stretching along Isleworth’s second fairway and Lake Chase behind the gates of Isleworth. The Gilded Age lives on in the Hananos’ Italian Renaissanceinspired residence styled after Whitehall, Flagler’s famous Palm Beach estate constructed in 1902.

It was kind of a love story, I was hoping that our house would inspire somebody. ~ Patty Hanano

Isleworth resident

At 5,235 square feet, the Hanano house is a cozier version of the Flagler mansion, which is spread over 60,000 square feet and comprises 55 rooms. While Flagler used his sprawling estate as a venue to host Palm Beach’s high society, the Hananos have made their home a full-time residence for their family for the last 18 years. But when it comes to details, their home radiates many of the same turn-of-the-century touches. When the Hananos purchased their Isleworth home site in 1990, it already had an approved home plan. Instead, the couple decided to build a modern-day version of Flagler’s Gilded Age estate.

Henry Flagler & his Palm Beach estate While Flagler called upon the same architects who designed several of his hotels to design Whitehall, the Hananos had a harder time commissioning an architect. The couple interviewed 10 architects and builders before finding one that would agree to build a miniature Whitehall replica from the ground up. The Hananos’ imaginative plan fascinated Richard Boone Rogers. The locally revered architect – who designed some of the area’s most recognizable buildings, including the old Orlando City Hall and several Orange County schools – came out of retirement to oversee every detail of construction on the home for two years. Rogers wasn’t the only supervisor on the job. “Our kids used to come to the house every day and look at every little thing as they were building it,” Patty Hanano said. In 1993, the Hananos’ fairytale home finally came to fruition. Gleaming white, flanked by six iconic Doric columns, and replete with parquet and marble flooring, the Hanano homestead is the best example of Isleworth’s eclectic architecture and has become a neighborhood landmark. Featuring five bedrooms, four full and two half baths, this piece of Florida history can be yours for $2,999,000.

“It was kind of a love story, I was hoping that our house would inspire somebody,” Patty Hanano said.

Q A

As the primary selling company for the developer going back more than 25 years, Isleworth Realty knows the history of Isleworth and understands the market value of the community better than anyone. We control the majority of inventory and prospective traffic into our community and have more local and international penetration than any other brokerage with the backing of our sister company Stockworth Realty Group, as well as Christie’s International Real Estate.

As the exclusive Central Florida affiliate for Christie’s International Real Estatefor the last 15 years, Isleworth Realty enjoys the distinction of being the chosen company to offer luxury homes to buyers internationally. Christie’s extends our footprint to 41 countries and more than 32,000 luxury brokers worldwide.

What is the benefit of being part of the Tavistock Group family of companies? Relationships and financial strength. We enjoy deep relationships with the hundreds of sister companies of Tavistock Group. And we are closely associated with many of the area’s major companies, like Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando Magic, Nemours Children’s Hospital, Sanford-Burnham Institute and UCF. So when you do business with Isleworth Realty, you have the comfort of knowing you’re working with an organization that’s connected to a greater family.

What do you see in luxury real estate for 2012? While luxury values in Florida have seen an across-the-board reduction, the fact that the amenities, services and quality offerings in Isleworth have only improved makes me optimistic.
