WELCOME Our spring issue of Isleworth Living is a tribute to the many hidden gems in our community. While Isleworth has gained international prominence for its world-class golf course, firstrate amenities, exquisite homes and natural beauty, this issue is devoted to celebrating its lesser known treasures, which happen to be some of our community’s greatest assets. Isleworth’s members and residents boast an incredible amount of talent. In this issue, we introduce you to singer and television performer Angela Courte. We also invite you to get to know Isleworth residents Mark Costanza, Charlie Grace and Aaron Stewart, three young golf phenoms. One of Isleworth’s most wonderful natural gifts is its butterfly garden, which is a temporary home for the annual brood of bobwhite quail chicks that hatch in our community each spring. Discover how Isleworth’s in-house agronomist Pete Kalogridis and our youngest members play an important role in caring for the quail chicks from incubation to release. We are excited to have the Tavistock Cup return to Isleworth at a time when the event is introducing new teams, new players, new colors and more fun! What a celebration it is to have a great event in golf back on our own course with four of the best clubs in the world and two dozen of the top players on the globe. Isleworth’s superb surroundings, unforgettable experiences and gifted members and residents all come together to create a community that offers a sense of place and pride. We would like to acknowledge Lisa Richard’s leadership in the past toward the success of Isleworth Realty. As she prepares to retire, we celebrate her exceptional service to our community as Isleworth Realty’s president for the last 25 years. We also welcome Mark Hayes as the new president of Isleworth Realty. Our 25 years have been so memorable, and our vision for Isleworth’s future is just as strong. We are continuing to change and evolve and always committed to setting new standards for excellence. Enjoy! Isleworth Realty Team

Community’s verdant grounds reminisCent of spanish artist’s homeland sCulpture sanCtuary isleworth recently welcomed the monumental works of the late abstract sculptor Eduardo Chillida, marking the celebrated Spanish artist’s first major U.S. exhibition of his large-scale, outdoor sculptures. The 12 sculptures installed throughout the community were formerly housed in the Chillida leku museum, the artist’s open-air sculpture garden located in northern Spain. The 30-acre hillside expanse filled with magnolias and majestic oaks intimately mirrors Isleworth’s own natural splendor. Considered one of the leading sculptors of the 20th century, Eduardo Chillida achieved international recognition with his revolutionary approach to using natural surroundings as integral and inextricable elements of his sculptures. Abstractism is the vehicle for Chillida’s expression, and raw nature is his chosen medium. Made of iron, steel and stone, Chillida’s works are inspired by his rural and industrial roots in spain’s Basque Country, where he forged his first work in iron at a local foundry. Chillida, who studied architecture before turning to art, spent the early years of his artistic career in paris, where ancient greek sculpture and the works of Picasso, Matisse and Brancusi profoundly influenced his work. The foremost sculptor of his generation transformed the field of sculpture and directly influenced many of the artists working today. His art trail is extensive and exceptional. With more than 40 works on public display in cities around the world, Chillida has long been recognized as groundbreaking in the field of sculpture and enjoys a significant international following. his most noteworthy works include Berlin, two colossal iron structures in front of the new German Chancellery in Berlin, Chillida’s tribute to German reunification. Chillida’s Wind Combs, a series of giant steel forceps suspended from the granite cliffs of San Sebastian, symbolizes man’s connection with nature.

Q: When did you begin playing golf? A: I started playing golf at age 13 when all
my friends started taking it more seriously. It became the thing to do in order to hang out with friends.
Q: What is your most embarrassing golf experience? A: I was about 12 years old, and realized I forgot my clubs at home
Q:
What is your most embarrassing golf experience?
A:
At the 2010 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, I came into the tournament expecting a strong finish because it was being played at my home course. Instead, I played awful and was in last place after the first two days. Luckily, I played a bit better on the final day, but I was extremely embarrassed with my performance in front of my family and friends.
Q: What is your favorite golf hole and why? A: My favorite golf hole is Hole 16 at Cypress Point on
the Monterey Peninsula in California. I love the waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing on the cliffs and the seals in the water below. It is so beautiful, you almost forget you’re playing golf.
i s l e w o rt h . c om
when I arrived at a golf tournament in New Jersey. I had to use rented clubs from the club’s pro shop and the head pro’s putter. But I ended up winning that tournament, so it didn’t turn out all that bad.
Q: Who has been your biggest influence? A: My father. He never drove me to become a golfer, but
always drove me to work hard in anything that I did. He has always supported me in my goals and has made me a better golfer and a better person.
Q: Do you have any practice rituals or superstitions? A: I chip and hit wedges before I go to the range to
get my body warmed up before hitting full shots. The practice area at Isleworth is a perfect place for me to find my groove.
Charlie Grace
College: Vanderbilt, Major: Economics Born: June 23, 1988
Q: Who has been your biggest influence? A: Growing up in Isleworth, I had the privilege to meet and
learn from the top golfers. My best friend was Shaun O’Meara, and his father, Mark, was always open to helping us. Tiger Woods loves teaching and playing with the younger guys, so it’s been a dream come true to learn from the best golfer to ever live. Charles Howell is one of my best friends. One spring break, I had the opportunity to caddy for him in a PGA tour event.
Q: What is your favorite golf hole and why? A: My favorite hole is definitely Hole 9 at Isleworth. I like how it
takes two well-shaped golf shots to hit the green, and a perfectly executed putt to make a birdie. That hole truly fits my eye.
Q: What was your best round at Isleworth? A: My best round was the 65 I shot from the Tiger Tees. It
was one of those days when my putter was on fire!

The Right Place is Here Margot H. Knight, President and CEO of United Arts of Central Florida, shares her thoughts on embracing our exemplary community.
You Can’t Be Somewhere Else, by Margot H. Knight A sense of place. You know it when you have it. You know it when you feel it. It can mean an affinity for a landscape, for your city’s name and what it embodies, a warm, gooshy feeling about neighbors you can rely on. It is grounded, and it is enigmatic. It is illusory, and it is very real. It transcends income and climate. A sense of place is essential for any great community, any great city, any great region. Most importantly, an authentic sense of place cannot be manufactured by an advertising agency or a community’s boosters. It is an organic, comfortable place in our collective minds that grows as we grow familial, cultural and environmental ties to where we live. Over time, our hearts know we live here, and this is home with a capital H. We love it here. We can’t, as hard as we might, be somewhere else. We can’t be defined by what we’re not. We have no choice but to be where we are and who we are. We can only be the best Orlando or Apopka or Winter Garden we can be. Let’s grow and develop our own artists, our own history and our own architectural styles. So what is Orlando? We are internationally known as a place to visit. From our agricultural beginnings, we can trace our exponential growth to creativity—Walt Disney, Lockheed Martin’s engineers, SanfordBurnham’s research scientists. We grow on the continuum of the human imagination. We are about achievement—we are not tied to a rigid social hierarchy. It is easy to get involved here. It’s easy to step up and lead. Who your daddy was doesn’t matter much in social circles. We are where are you going? not where are you from? We are what can you do? not who are your people? We are young. We are diverse. We have jazz; we have contemporary dance. We have Shakespeare, we have poetry slams. We have basketball, and we have golf (boy, do we have golf)! We are welcoming. We make friends easily. We thrive on the new. We have a reverence for the old. What’s next? We are a child with a high IQ—hard-wired for success and searching for direction. The key to place is not really about geography. It’s about the people that populate a place. Whether you’ve lived here for five generations or five weeks, you have the latitude to make your street, your neighborhood, and your city one of which you are proud. Bring your skills, your personality, your values to community governance and community play. The lead in La Cage Aux Folles sings, I am what I am, and what I am is an illusion. Isleworth, Orlando, Orange County, Central Florida. Let’s be the best at what and who we are. Let us shout from the rooftops, We are proud of where we live and don’t want to be anywhere else. It’s not the place that shapes us—we shape our place.

Isleworth youth program
shows its
side
“Isleworth is rich in history, beauty, nature and art, but this community’s true masterpiece and most important asset is its children.” –Cindy Wright isleworth youth services director
At Isleworth, children have a number of ways to keep themselves occupied. Cindy Wright has worked hard to make that happen. As Isleworth’s youth services director, Wright is in charge of serving Isleworth’s most important and discerning members. From tutoring services and themed birthday parties to the community’s highly anticipated annual summer camp, Isleworth’s youth programming provides fun-filled activities for Isleworth’s youngest members year-round. The children in Isleworth have exclusive access to Camp Isleworth, run by Wright, who is official “Camp Mom.” One very special component of Isleworth’s youth program is the community’s annual quail hatch, an experience that invites Isleworth children to see quail chicks from incubation to release. For Isleworth’s annual quail hatch, Wright enlisted the help of Pete Kalogridis, conservation agronomist. Holding a masters degree in agronomy from University of Florida, Kalogridis is a native Floridian with an agricultural background in citrus. As a certified conservation planner, he works with Wright to oversee the quail covey.

Quail eggs are purchased from commercial quail rearing facilities and undergo a controlled incubation process.
Chicks hatch and move to a temperature-controlled brooder box to preserve their body heat during the first few days of life. Chicks live off the remaining nourishment of their egg while they transition to feeding and drinking on their own.
Quail hatch is complete. Chicks remain in the brooder box for the next two weeks while the temperature is gradually lowered until it cools to room temperature.
Chicks move into a larger enclosure with minimum temperature-controlled conditions. Quail are placed on wood shavings and begin to learn how to “scratch the ground in search of food.
The quail have doubled in size and continue to grow while forming their own social community known as a covey. The quail are kept under dim lighting to reduce the incidence of pecking one another in their shrinking area because of their rapid growth rate.

The birds are monitored to ensure they are all feeding properly. On the final day, the quail are moved into a pen located within Isleworth’s butterfly garden. The birds begin their grow-out phase and start to develop a social order amongst themselves.
The birds become accustomed to the pen, along with daylight and nighttime hours, temperature and surrounding noises. They learn who their predators are from the safety of their enclosed cage.
The quail are given native plant branches and a sandbox where they dust themselves to control mites, a natural instinct for bird species. Over the next several weeks, the quail are given these items to help develop survival skills and reduce fighting within the covey.
The quail are introduced to native food sources such as crickets, blackberries and small seeds during this period. Once they have fully matured, the birds are released into the conservation areas of the golf course.

meet your neighborhood doc Dr. Deborah Harding, M.D. Long-time Isleworth Golf & Country Club resident Deborah Harding says Isleworth is a great community to raise a family. But when she and her husband Victor Harding, who is also a doctor, first purchased the property to build their home on 25 years ago, it was hard to see just how fantastic the neighborhood would be. “When we signed the papers I thought for a moment ‘what have we done?’ It was all orange trees here back then,” Deborah says. Today the Hardings couldn’t be happier with their decision. The Butler Chain of Lakes, the golf course, the friendly neighbors and beautiful surroundings all make Isleworth a wonderful place to call home. Before moving to Orlando, Deborah called the Alexandria, Virginia area home. She and Victor came to Central Florida to be near Victor’s family. It didn’t hurt that it was nice and warm here either. Deborah was happy to complete her residency and internship at Orlando Regional Medical Center, an Orlando Health hospital. Enjoying being able to serve her fellow Windermere and Dr. Phillips neighbors, Deborah became affiliated with Dr. P. Phillips Hospital and opened her own independent concierge practice, called MD One-on-One. The name said it all. She wanted to build a practice that gave patients the personal medical attention they deserved. In the process she found herself becoming a “health coach” to her patients. Being board-certified in internal medicine, sleep disorder medicine and anti-aging medicine, Deborah had unique insight into how she could not just help people fight disease, but prevent it, too. With this passion to optimize her patients’ health, Deborah went on to found the Harding Anti-Aging Center in 2006. “Most people think anti-aging is about cosmetic appearance. But that’s only a portion of it,” Deborah says. “What I’m interested in is helping patients achieve a life full of energy, love, vitality, optimal health and total happiness.” Along the way to uncovering the secrets to how our bodies age and how to slow and eventually stop that process, Deborah was (and still is) a hands-on mom to her six children: David, Elizabeth, Christopher, Michael, Charlie, and Alex. Charlie and Alex are in high school and Deborah loves to spend time with them and her husband, Victor, who is the Director of Research at Harding Anti-Aging Center. “People ask me how we do it. We work together and have been married for 35 years. I just tell them it’s easy when you are married to your best friend,” Deborah says. Today, Harding Anti-Aging Center is pioneering the way to long life and advanced health with its Elite Executive Health Evaluation, a multi-discipline approach to overall health and wellness, something Deborah is very proud of. “I want to live to be 110. I want everyone to live into their hundreds. I know we can do it. Who wouldn’t want more time with their family, doing the things they love, living a quality, fulfilling life?” — Article by: Tarre Beach

Each program is unique, but always includes special worship songs, a great hymn of the Church, and words of encouragement for her viewing audience. Courte is a complete entertainer and does not stop at television. She has produced three music videos and two albums. Her latest music project, Power of Praise, named for her television program which can be seen locally on the SuperChannel, includes five of her own original songs. I Give You Faith is dedicated to her son, Michael, and to all children, from a mother’s heart. In addition to singing, Courte loves giving back to the community. She and her fellow musicians have performed Christmas programs at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Orange Co-33rd Street Jail and Health Central Park in Winter Garden. “I like to go on Christmas Day afternoon because whoever is there that time of day most likely has no family or visitors for the holidays. So I become their family for a few hours,” she said. Courte is also a noted public speaker, owner of the glamour jewelry company, The Bling Room, and the author of the book Bling It On. “I live to inspire, and I hope my love for life and people makes a difference. I am forever grateful to everyone who took an interest in me and has helped me achieve so many of my dreams,” she said.

The Art of
design By Stephanie Henley & Troy Beasley Beasley & Henley Interior Design
The Vatican Museum is one of my favorite places to revel in the beauty and splendor of artwork. Not that I love the jostling crowds, but the splendor of the rooms with their countless treasures is truly overwhelming.
When I see one of those incredible Caravaggios or Raphaels, I am drawn to it by a visceral, almost magical sensation of pure positive emotion. The artist is pouring out his depth of feeling and passion, and despite the intervening centuries, I soak it up like a sponge. In a perfect symphony of tempura and pigments, the master creates a masterpiece. As the witness to this magnum
opus, I know that I don’t fully grasp all the details. But then, I don’t wish to repaint the piece, just enjoy it, revel in its creation and get to my favorite café for aperitivo before all the other tourists do! In many ways, good interior design evolves much like a work of art. Whether the designer is creating one room or an entire house, their place is to create, scrutinize and synthesize the myriad of details that bring together a seamless design. Like an artist, the designer considers the subject and composition, weighs the use of colors and textures, and contemplates the angles, lighting and setting. All of this coalesces in the details of design and flows through the furnishings, fabrics, lighting, artwork and more.
When our clients see our designs, they love the results. We often hear comments about ‘sweeping flow of the design’ and ‘effortless elegance and comfort’ that they see and feel. They come to us because they want us to create the same mood in their home, uniquely for them. On occasion we have a client who questions the need for all the elements. Why can’t we hold off on the window treatments? Why can’t I do the accessories myself? If it is a matter of money, it is better to commit 100% to a few rooms and do it right instead of 50% to the entire house and only succeed in creating a furniture arrangement. If we were all to unravel our favorite artwork and decide
certain elements were not necessary, it would ruin the beauty of the piece. I wouldn’t remove the ceilings in Raphael’s School of Athens. They incorporate proportion and depth, creating the backdrop for the subjects. I wouldn’t change the angles or remove the robes in Caravaggio’s Entombment of Christ. They create a visual dynamic that is central to the painting. Designers don’t just pick furniture and match window treatments. We create a work of art, with all its pieces and parts, designed exclusively for that client and for the space in which they live. Each element is designed or selected with a purpose. It all flows together to make each interior its own custom masterpiece.

COUTURE & FINE FURNITURE GETS SECOND CHANCE
Consignment has gone couture in College Park giving valueconscious shoppers a destination to buy designer apparel, handbags, accessories and jewelry at a fraction of original retail prices. An exceptional variety of Chanel, Prada, St. John, Escada, Hermes, Juicy Couture, Tory Burch, Manolo Blahnik and David Yurman are the kind of merchandise a customer can expect to find on any given day at Top Drawer Couture, a high-end consignment boutique that Mary Nunis, Isleworth resident, and Rebecca Wiler opened a little more than a year ago. “Our best consignors also happen to be some of our best customers,” said Nunis, Top Drawer’s co-owner. But couture merchandise is just one of the many ways Top Drawer Couture stands out from other consignment shops. “We really want to change the image of consignment,” said Wiler, co-owner of Top Drawer Couture who has more than 20 years of experience in the retail industry. The surroundings, service and experience at Top Drawer has the feeling of a specialty store. Wiler puts a special emphasis on visual merchandising. Fixtures display clothing with coordinating accessories. The window displays, rotated weekly, are art forms in themselves. Much of the merchandise has never been used. Consigned items that have been used are in like-new condition.
Every customer receives a personalized shopping experience... that includes a merchandise wish list stored in a sophisticated software program that automatically alerts staff members if consigned pieces that come in match a customer’s taste. Just a few steps from the couture store is Top Drawer Furniture and Accessories, opened by Mary Nunis and Fred Rodgers more than 15 years ago. Rodgers was a top designer at Walt Disney World for more than 30 years. The store is stocked with gently used fine furnishings such as Baker, Henredon, Century and designer one-of-a-kind items, including hand-embroidered tablecloths and napkins, all priced affordably. “It’s fun to change the looks of where you live and how you look,” Nunis said.
