RECESSED
MEDICINE CABINETS ORGANIZE WITH STYLE Recessed medicine cabinets are installed by being set into in a wall. They are installed by getting placed into a support frame that is cut out from a wall. Although there is a bit more work required for recessed medicine cabinets, the benefits that come along with it make it worth it. A recessed medicine cabinet allows you to have more space in your bathroom because the majority of the medicine cabinet is inside the wall. All you can see is the door and the shelving structure when the door is opened. Plus, there is no overhang above the sink. Having the medicine cabinet flush against the wall adds to the appeal of your bathroom and gives you more space. The Medicinehaus by Whitehaus Collection recessed medicine cabinets are made out of anodized aluminum. This material gives them an extremely long life span and increased durability. The eco-friendly anodized aluminum cannot be harmed by ultraviolet rays and will not chip or peel. TREND ALERT:
BRASS IS
BACK
The cool tones of stainless steel and polished chrome have dominated interior design since the 1980’s. However, their prevalence is fading as people desire a more inviting aesthetic. Brass fixtures are gaining popularity again from big name designers and homeowners alike. Brass is prominently stocked and promoted by retailers with household names and international influence. Brass gives the home a more personal and welcoming feel while still giving off hints of sophisticated elegance. Brass is a very distinct and refined accent. A budget friendly way to add warmth into your home is with brass. Brass is ideal because it gives you the versatility to match almost any design style. Brass also really pops in spaces with darker color palettes but it can also add warmth and subtle brilliance to spaces with white or neutral tones. Whitehaus Collection offers many different products in a brass finish. The WH692BBL decorative prep sink is a perfect addition to any home or home bar. The Twisthaus Collection bridge faucet WHTTSLV3-9773SPR is sure to turn heads in a dark, moody style. Whitehaus also provides several solid brass knobs and pull handles like the WH126 for all your cabinetry needs. There are a million and one ways to incorporate this warm, inviting look into your home. The right look for you is waiting to be discovered.

RAISING THE BAR here’s no doubt about it, home bars are in high demand. As the interest in craft cocktails and beers have increased, so has the interest of home bars. Many homeowners are creating spaces in their homes to entertain guests instead of having to go out.
T
be sure to locate it out of the way of meal preparation and cleanup. The second type of home bars are bars that serve drinks from behind a counter or full-service bar. While you can be more elaborate with the design of these, you will have to take more planning into consideration.
refrigeration is a necessity. This can hold anything from wine and soda to snacks and hors d’oeuvres. Kegerators are also a great addition for all the beer drinkers. Including a durable stainless steel prep sink is key. Whitehaus Collection offers many great stainless steel prep sink options.
Home bars tend to be one of two types. The first is the walkup. They are typically against a wall and allows people to help themselves. This type of home bar is incorporated into many different settings of the home. If it’s part of the kitchen though,
Storage is a must when it comes to home bars. A walk-up bar may need less storage than the full-service bars. Both upper and lower cabinets with accessories and barware, bottles and bar tools will help you discreetly organize all your essentials. Undercounter
While food is a component of memorable gatherings, drinks are just as significant. Kitchens are the heart of the home, but a welldesigned home bar can be the life of any party.

LAUNDRY ROOM IDEAS 1
Pet Friendly
Laundry rooms that lead into back yards are being combined with a pet-friendly space. Add a sink to bathe pets in, food and water bowls, a basket of toys, a comfy bed and hooks on the wall to hang leashes to eliminate the clutter in the rest of your home. Consider a commercial faucet with a pull down spout like the Whitehaus JEM Collection WH2070028 and a durable multipurpose sink like the Noah’s Collection WHNAP3218.

Drying Racks
This year has become the era of the drying racks. Drying racks are a way to de-clutter the space in your laundry room. This eliminates having to hang clothes in your hallway door frames in the rest of your home. Adding plenty of storage into your laundry room with drying racks will give you the ultimate, clutter-free space.
3
Rich Colors
Homeowners are starting to embrace dark, moody colors into their laundry room spaces. Dark cabinets, walls, and or accessories give a sophisticated appeal. The rich colors work because of the combination of colors and tones that you can use. Rich wood cabinets and stone flooring is one pairing that you will fall in love with.

TO WATCH OUT FOR 4
Natural Light
Natural light in the laundry room has boomed to the top of trends this year. Fresh and clean are two things that every homeowner wants in their laundry room. Homeowners are opening up their laundry room by putting an emphasis on the windows or by creating windows all together. Natural light, all-white appliances and cabinets plus an icy backsplash deliver an airy, welcoming feeling. What’s not to love about a lightfilled room?
5
Plenty of Storage
A place for everything is something every homeowner aspires to have in their laundry room. From a drop-down drying rack to a counter top ironing board and cubbies for supplies, your laundry room can be transformed into a room for efficiency. You can never have too much storage space around your laundry room.
6
Big Backsplashes
An eye-catching backsplash is an affordable way to make a big statement in a small or large space. This is why this design style is popping up in laundry rooms everywhere. A stainless steel, brick-patterned mosaic backsplash can take any laundry room from boring to flawless.

CHOOSING
KITCHEN FINISHES WISELY
Start With Counter Tops
Consider The Cabinetry
Finishes To Complete
Counter tops are the most important in kitchens, as they take up the most space. This makes the counter top material a great place to start and can be the basis for the rest of your kitchen’s material and finish palette. Choose counter tops that are durable and easy to clean, like granite or composite materials. If you want to make a bolder statement, look at stainless steel, zinc or natural wood. Always aim for light, smooth and reflective materials for kitchen counter tops.
Keep your cabinetry materials as simple and natural as possible. Stick to a small palette to keep it simple. Lighter colored cabinets will help open up the space and keep it bright. You can always add in other materials in small doses, like accessories, for more visual depth and texture. Depending on your remodel, the cabinetry can be where you start for your material and finish palette. If you aren’t changing the cabinets, use this to guide the rest of your counter tops, finishes, etc.
Contrast is key. If you chose dark, rich counters, go for a lighter backsplash and fixtures. If you chose light counters, pair with bronze or stainless steel fixtures. Choose backsplash and fixtures that are visually contrasting to the counter top and cabinetry. Floors can be decided by the surrounding rooms but make sure the colors don’t clash with the kitchen.

Ideally, your bathroom should be a place of rest and relaxation that helps energize you in the morning and rejuvenate your mind and body at the end of the day. Because of the hectic pace of everyday life, the bathroom often becomes a jumbled, stress-inducing chaos of cosmetics, toiletries and medicines. By decluttering and refreshing your bathroom with these tips below, you will create a calming, serene space.
1
CLEAR THE SPACE

GET RID OF THE OLD

MIRRORS AND MEDICINE CABINETS

Completely clear your bathroom out. Emptying the room helps you only put back what is absolutely necessary. It also allows you to see exactly how much storage space you actually have in the bathroom. After you have cleared everything out, deep clean the bathroom until it sparkles.
Paint is one of the quickest and most economical ways to refresh your bathroom. By using a traditional crisp white or pulling shades from nature, you can instantly create a vibrant, relaxing space. Using bold colors can also completely revamp a bathroom. If you want to do more then one color but don’t want to go too bold, accent walls, stripes and other geometric shapes can help transform any bathroom.
A new, beautiful mirror can transform your bathroom from drab to fab and instantly make your space feel larger. There are so many different bathroom mirrors that you can get to match any design. If you are looking to add extra storage, add a beautiful, mirror-fronted medicine cabinet. Whitehaus Collection offers a variety of shapes and sizes for mirrors and technology-advanced medicine cabinets.

LIGHTING
Start sorting through all of the items you took out of your bathroom. Toss out any cosmetics, medicines, lotions, cleaning products, etc. that are expired. Once you have gotten rid of expired products, toss anything that you haven’t used within a year.
Never underestimate how fixtures make a bathroom feel. By simply changing fixtures, towel bars, hooks, knobs, etc. you can completely change the look and feel. Make sure all the finishes are the same for continuity. Whitehaus Collection offers many different faucets, knobs, pull handles, etc. to complete the look.
The accessories that line your bathroom sink, shouldn’t just be thrown together. Pick matching décor pieces from your tooth brush holder to your wastebasket. White, ceramic and chrome finished accessories are always in style. Buying new towels can bring together the new color scheme in your bathroom. If this isn’t enough to make your bathroom pop, go bold with large, striking graphics and add splashes of color or playful prints.
Adding hooks and stackable plastic drawers to cabinets will help organize beauty products, toiletries, hair dryers, etc. Drawer dividers will help keep all your drawers organized and tidy. If you don’t have plenty of cabinet and drawer space, think about hanging an organizer on the back of the door or adding floating shelves above the toilet, door, etc. for extra storage.
Tiles are becoming more and more popular whether they are used for the shower walls, counter tops or floors. Adding glass mosaic tiles can create an uncanny amount of personality for your bathroom. Tiled floors can make any small bathroom look instantly bigger by using large, oversized tiles. Typical tiles used in bathrooms consist of natural stones such as slate, marble or travertine, which are all non-slip.
Getting rid of the fluorescent lighting and adding sconces or overhead lighting can do wonders for any bathroom that needs a refreshed look. Not only is this lighting less harsh and more natural, it doubles as a wonderful accent piece. When done correctly, the lighting in a bathroom really pays off. After all, this is where you start and end your day - you should be prepared to look and feel your best.

TRENDS THAT ARE HERE TO STAY
Photo provided by: Dresner Design www.dresnerdesign.com
The latest trends are something that every homeowner strives for. Trends aren’t always the best to follow exactly since it could result in more remodeling down the road. As time moves on, trends will go in and out of style and you could be left with outdated furniture, counter tops, tile or cabinets. Look for a classic style and add in trendy features. With all of the changes in trends for kitchen and bath over the years, some trends keep evolving while other classic trends are here to stay.
Open Shelving in Kitchens
Black and White
Wood and Brick Walls
Replacing solid upper cabinetry with open shelving, typically in the form of floating shelves or ones supported by brackets, is here to stay. Many homeowners are embracing this clever idea and making it a lifestyle choice instead of just a trend. By removing cabinet doors, you are left with the ability to display beautiful dishes, cookbooks or your uncanny organization skills. Open shelving takes visual weight off your kitchen and allows the room to feel more airy.
Whether on their own or together, these two contrasting colors will always make a bold statement. In any room, you first have to decide what feeling you want the room to give off. Calming, dramatic, sophisticated, classic, chic, cozy are all good words to figure out the feeling you are going for. Once you have done that, there are many different ways to bring that feeling to life. The classic and timeless looks of black and white will always be here to stay.
Leaving wood or brick walls exposed in different rooms adds more value and character. By leaving these types of walls exposed, you are bringing visual and textural contrast into any setting instantly. You are also adding history and heritage to the home. Wooden and brick walls can give a home a warm, natural atmosphere. With eco-friendly fixtures and features here to stay, so are wood and brick walls.

Whitehaus Collection offer numerous eco-friendly products and fixtures. Kitchen and lavatory faucets are low-lead compliant with all eco-friendly laws. The Farmhaus Fireclay Sink Collection is also ecofriendly due to the process in which they are made. Also offered are the dual-flush, Magic Flush toilets. By investing in new fixtures or replacing old fixtures, you’re spending money to instantly save money. With the population being frugal with their money, eco-friendly products are here to stay.
Neutral Color Palettes Neutral color palettes in your home are comfortable, welcoming and will make you feel at ease when walking into each room. Even though some may look at neutral colors and think bland or boring, there are several ways to create contrast and visual interest. Warmer hues add a feeling that is elegant and refined. They also provide maximum flexibility when it comes to layering textures and incorporating pops of
colors through accessories. Neutral colors will make a room feel fresh, clean and bright making them the perfect color trend to stay.
Stainless Steel Fixtures
Open Kitchen Layouts Kitchen layouts are more than just the footprint of your kitchen. The layout will determine how your kitchen will function. The most popular layout trend is the open layout. In this arrangement, the kitchen will face another area of your home or be incorporated into another room. This creates the perfect space for multitasking. The open floor plan combines rooms so you are able to do or see multiple things while preparing a meal. You can stay connected to your guests and family even if they aren’t directly in the kitchen.
Mirror, Mirror Stainless steel kitchens offer an incredible amount of flexibility for the homeowner. Stainless steel surfaces, fixtures and appliances are easy to maintain and come in a variety of designs. You also will have the flexibility for different colors and accessories. Whitehaus Collection offers a wide range of stainless steel sinks that come in a variety of designs and installation types. This trend that’s here to stay creates a sleek and stylish look instantly for any kitchen.
Bathroom remodels are moving towards more of a light and airy feel with an emphasis on mirrors. This can include mirrors with old-world accents to mirrors that cover an entire wall. Mirror medicine cabinets are also making a big splash. Whitehaus Collection offers many different types of mirrors for your bathroom. No matter what type of mirror you choose the effect will always be the same, a brighter, bigger feeling bathroom ensuring this trend is not going anywhere.

Wood Counter Tops Wooden counter tops are a timeless design choice that will work well with any type of kitchen design theme. Even though they do require some upkeep, they make a great statement piece in your kitchen. They are also much more cost effective than natural stones, like granite or marble. Wooden counter tops provide you with the cozy feeling of a big wooden table but also provide a great prep and serving spot. This lifelong trend offers a warm feeling that granite or marble cannot.
Counter Tops and Backsplashes: The Perfect Match The unlimited countertop and backsplash choices can feel overwhelming. What do you choose first? How do you coordinate colors? Is it okay to mix patterns? There are many different answers to these questions. You can spend months and months looking at different combinations and collecting samples that just simply don’t go together. Here are 3 different options to get you started in the right direction.
OPTION
1
The Countertop First By choosing the countertop first, you have immediately narrowed your choices for a backsplash. You don’t have to match the backsplash to the countertop exactly. If you have gone for a different hue or countertop with a lot of movement, choose a backsplash that is simple and neutral. If your countertop is a little more simple and natural, choose a backsplash that has a little bit more movement in it to ensure your kitchen isn’t static. Always bring a picture or sample of your countertop with you when you start to look for backsplashes. This will help you make your decision by seeing the two next to each other.
OPTION
2
The Backsplash First If you happen to find a backsplash you love before you even looked at countertops, use that. By making this selection right away, you have narrowed down the options for countertops. If the backsplash you have chosen makes a big statement, you want to find a much quieter, subtle countertop to pair it with. You don’t want the backsplash you just fell in love with to compete with a countertop that you aren’t crazy about. The countertop should be the supporting role, not the star of the show.
OPTION
3
Same Material for Both If you love your countertop selection and want to make this process simple, use the same material for the backsplash as well. This is a smart decision if you are required to purchase entire slabs of your chosen countertop material in case you have leftovers. You can also use the same or similar material for your backsplash but break it up a little bit by selecting a tile format instead of a slab. This can be much more budget-friendly than purchasing extra slabs.

Bungalow
BORN IN THE USA:
Architectural Home Styles Defined If you’ve ever traveled in the United States, you know that specific areas have specific architectural styles. While they can vary, most states have their one go to style for homes. From colonial to log cabin, let’s check out some popular design styles and where they are most popular. Art Deco
Flat roofs, metal window casements and smooth stucco walls with rectangular cut-outs are what encompasses the art deco style. Facades are usually flush with zigzags and other stylized floral, geometric and sunrise motifs. The style revived itself in the 1980’s by evolving the features into curbed corners, rectangular glass-block windows and a boat-like appearance. You will find this style mostly in California.
Bungalow
Bungalows are narrow, rectangular one-and-a-half story homes with lowpitched gabled or hipped roofs and small covered porches at the entry. The name bungalow, came from India where it indicated a small, thatched home. Originally popular in California, 18
Kitchen Bath Trends Magazine
you will now find the majority of bungalow-styled homes in the Midwest, specifically Colorado.
Cape Cod
One of the first styles built in the United States were Cape Cods. The original style was shingle-sided, one-story with no dormers. During the mid-20th century, these small, uncomplicated cap cods became popular in suburban developments. They are now square or rectangular with one-and-a-half stories and have steeply pitched, gabled roofs. You will find this style mostly in the New England area, specifically Massachusetts.
Colonial
When referring to houses that have colonial style, they are rectangular,
symmetrical homes with bedrooms on the second floor. There are doublehung windows that usually have small, equally sized square panes. You will find this style mostly in the New England area, specifically Connecticut.
Contemporary
Contemporary styled homes can be defined by their odd-sized, usually tall windows, their lack of ornamentation and their unusual mixtures of wall materials – stone, brick and wood. Architects created two versions, the flat roof and gabled. Both tend to be one-story tall and were designed to incorporate the surrounding landscape into he overall look. This style is compiled of sleek shapes. You will find this style mostly in Chicago.
Craftsman
Craftsman style homes are reminiscent of the early 20th century arts and crafts movement. These homes feature exteriors that are the perfect combination of stone and wood. This style emphasizes a relationship between nature and construction. You will find this style mostly in Montana and out west.
Georgian
Georgian homes are refined and symmetrical with paired chimneys and

decorative crowns over the front door. These homes have side-gabled roofs, are two to three stories high and are constructed in brick. They usually have an orderly row of five windows across the second story. You will find this style mostly in the south, specifically Georgia.
Log Cabin
Originally, log cabins were built as one room using no nails. Now many log homes function as large, luxurious getaways. They can be built in almost
any location, but are mostly found in Maine and Vermont.
Ranch
The ranch style homes take pieces from the Spanish Colonial, Prairie and Craftsman homes. It is characterized by its one-story, pitched roof construction, built-in garage, wood or brick exterior, sliding and picture windows, and sliding doors leading to patios. You will mostly find this style in the west, specifically Arizona.

RUSTIC MEETS REFINED As society continues to follow the green movement, we’re seeing ecofriendly trends popping up all over the map. In the design industry in particular, that trend is known as refined rustic. This style encompasses luxury, comfort and everything in between. Making it very desirable in modern design today.

R
efined rustic is the epitome of opposites attract. It allows you to take something old and give it a new purpose in a more contemporary space. What does refined rustic look like? Think of an old worn in farm table with high back linen chairs and a stunning wrought iron chandelier dangling from the ceiling. Or a crisp white contemporary bathroom with stainless steel appliances and a natural slab wood counter top. Simply a match made in heaven. The refined rustic style comes in a variety of forms and can easily mesh with your personal style.
MUST HAVES FOR RUSTIC & REFINED Neutral Colors
Rustic color palettes tend to be a combination of dusty earth tones in both warm and cool shades, perfect for mixing and matching. Because these shades can be much muted, be careful not to make your space look too drab. Add pops of color with some eclectic accessories or a fun printed fabric for accents.
Mixed Materials
Refined rustic is all about balance and finding elements with the right amount of contrast. Pieces that you can find in a refined rustic space are, natural slab wood, exposed beams, iron railings and fixtures, wingback linen chairs, nail head trim and sleek design. Man-made elements and a neutral palette are the perfect combination for making your refined rustic space warm and inviting. Dark wood
and wrought iron furnishings will contrast nicely against light neutral color walls. Refined rustic is a very casual and chic style. It has such an effortless vibe making it an easy style that almost any homeowner can pull off.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN Individuality
Well-worn wooden chairs and tables get better with age. Using older furniture with history will bring so much character into your home, also giving you a cool story to tell. Try frequenting your local consignment or antique shop for inspiration and fun rustic pieces. Renovated barn style homes are ideal for creating the ultimate refined rustic space. When renovating a barn, it’s important to pay homage to the buildings original purpose and materials in order to keep your newly refined style authentic.
yourself. Chances are a carpenter will be willing to work with any materials you give him/her. If you’re doing a full renovation and have some left over wood flooring, try creating an end table for your living room. Add some drawers and detailed knobs and you’ve got yourself an original piece. Or, on a simpler note, take that floor board and build a wooden frame for your bathroom mirror. Those are definitely unique pieces that you will not find in your local showroom for sure. This refined rustic trend is a one we see staying around for a while, and we can absolutely see why. With a wide range of palettes, endless furnishing possibilities and a timeless look, this style is easily achievable for designers and homeowners across the globe.
For instance, work around what’s there. Instead of removing elements such as exposed beams and original flooring, use it to create an interesting space layout. This also gives you a great story to tell. One of our favorite spaces in an old barn is the hay loft. The exposed beams and pitched ceiling are just to die for. Lofts are the best space for creating an entertainment room. Whether it’s a children’s play room or your husband’s man cave, the possibilities are endless.

What about recycling original materials? There is no better way to incorporate individuality in your home than a little DIY. That doesn’t mean you have to be crafty and do it

MODERN MEETS TRADITIONAL

ne of the best feelings after renovating your home is being able to decorate. Selecting the furniture and pieces that you want to see every day can be both wonderful and challenging. You now have to select which kind of style and feel you want your home to have. But why only choose one? Mixing and matching different styles has become a recent trend in home design. One of the most popular mixed styles are modern and traditional. Mixing traditional and modern styles is a fun way to experiment with contrasts. By keeping a sense of proportion and linking different styles with common details or accents, you can achieve a unique, traditionally modern design scheme that suits your personal taste.
of the pieces get lost or overwhelmed compared to another one. Balance is key. Use size to help match items of different styles. For example, two chairs from different time periods don’t look out of place when together if they are the same size.
Create Contrast
Tie in Accessories
To exemplify this mixed style, aim to emphasize the contrast among different shapes, materials, textures or decorative details. Mix sleek, minimal fixtures with different patterned accessories or wall paper. Pair a rustic wooden table with clear acrylic chairs or even lay a textured, antique rub over a smooth tile floor. In most design cases, you should highlight one or two major contrasting pieces in a room. Keep the rest of the décor neutral or tied together with a cohesive palette.
Maintain Proportion
Keep pieces of different styles in proportion to maintain a sense of scale and to make sure that none
Unexpected Color
One of the simplest ways to incorporate a rational vintage piece into a modern design is by simple updating it. Don’t just refurbish antique furniture to its original condition, add a fresh coat of paint and brand-new upholstery to give the piece a new, modern feel. Give old-fashioned accessories a modern look with bright, unconventional colors and patterned fabrics.
To avoid mindless clutter, limit groupings of accessories to one or two interesting pieces that will help tie in different styles with a common detail. Place a traditional vase on a modern end table and add another accessory, like a lamp or picture frame, that echoes the style of the table but picks up colors in the case. Blending traditional and modern together is a great way to celebrate the diversity in interior design. The name of the game is to make a space that is perfect for you and your family. Deciding that it is finally time to redesign your kitchen is a relatively easy choice, but the crucial steps that follow can quickly build up to create overwhelming feelings of confusion and chaos. Take it from me, I just went through this same enjoyable, but at times, painful process myself. For better or for worse, I took the route of diving in completely blind to my project and hit many speed bumps along the way. While this often provided a sense of creative fulfillment, I could have definitely done without the unexpected issues continuously popping up to surprise me. Looking back on my design process, I am now able to narrow my suggestions down to six simple and fundamental steps that any fellow kitchen re-designer can follow to get through this process as seamlessly as possible. While each remodel is a unique creation, these steps are guaranteed to lead you to success and to a kitchen that you will love for years to come. Written by Adrienne Holland of The Blonde Cottage

Focus on Function
While creating a beautiful kitchen is an integral part of the remodel, this should not be your main focus. Instead, all of your choices should be centered on building a functional foundation. Planning your layout to optimize your space and to fit your lifestyle is key. If you aren’t sure what this means for you exactly, ask yourself some of the following basic questions to get the ball rolling: • What are the issues with the space you currently have? Does the lay out make sense, or is there room for improvement? In my remodel, one of my first decisions was to reposition the dishwasher flush to the sink for ease of opening, loading and closing. Do you have any similar layout challenges that make your daily chores more difficult than they need to be? • Keeping space and ease of motion in mind, what types of set ups would support this? Are you able to move around your kitchen effortlessly, or is your current layout preventing this? Do you have anything obstructing or minimizing your space and accessibility instead of maximizing it? • What additions would make the kitchen more storage friendly? Do all of your kitchen accessories have a place to go, or do you find yourself
shoving items in randomly wherever there is room? What organizational improvements could you benefit from? • What does your kitchen even mean to you? Are you an avid chef always preparing meals for your family? Are you interested more in creating a space for hosting and entertaining? Figuring out what purpose your kitchen serves to you personally will help tremendously in the steps to come.
2
Gather Inspiration
Once you are able to establish your goals for a functional and logical kitchen, you are then ready for my favorite part of the process: all things creative! First you want to start out by gathering inspiration in any way possible. This could take form in many ways, including an afternoon spent on Pinterest, flipping through some of your favorite home décor magazines, or visiting a friend’s kitchen you admire and snapping some quick pictures for reference. After you feel that you have gathered up enough inspirational material, reflect on any patterns or similarities that you see. Is there a certain cabinet color that appears in the majority of your examples? Have you picked out examples that are more modern or rustic? Note any general similarities, keep in mind your needs for the kitchen,
and determine how that can translate into the look and the overall feel.
3
Decide on an Anchor Component
When the time has come to begin picking out the components of your new kitchen, a safe and sure bet is to decide first on one anchor component. This can be any main element of your choosing, just as long as it is something that speaks to you. Some suggestions for anchor components are cabinetry, counter tops, appliances, a sink/faucet area, etc. While any of these options serve as a great kicking off point, during my process I decided to start with the cabinets. Focusing on only the cabinets at the beginning helped me to keep my concentration solid and cohesive. It also aided in preventing that overwhelming feeling that sometimes comes when there are endless amounts of choices and options. Overall, this route is guaranteed to set you up to succeed as you work your way through the rest of your decision check list. Spend some time thinking about what anchor component would work best for you.
4
Determine Supporting Elements
It is now time to determine the rest of your supporting design elements. Luckily, you have already made one of the more major decisions in your anchor component, so you will be able to use www.kitchenbathtrends.com
25

this as a foundation from here on out. You will shortly start to see how easily the rest of your decisions will begin to fall into place. And while things may start finally clicking, just remember the following: • Never lose sight of functionality. While I knew I wanted a farmhouse sink, I had to take a step back and remind myself to pick one that I would actually use. There were many options out there that would have worked beautifully in my kitchen but the reality of the situation was that the functionality was low to none. I didn’t want to pick a sink just based of off its splendor and be kicking myself a few months later when I had a heaping load of dirty dishes waiting for me.
5
Apply Final Touches
You are almost there! The shell of your kitchen is completed, and the appliances are installed. But all of the remodeling and redesigning will be for nothing if you don’t follow through with this vital step: details and accessories! This may be the most important part of the entire process because this is what makes your kitchen especially personalized for you and your family. It is what separates your kitchen from all of the other kitchens out there. It is 26

what makes your space unique. Some necessary final touches can include the following: • A fresh coat of paint. Make sure to try some swatches on the wall first and observe them at different times of the day. Light can make color appear differently, and you want to be sure you love the look twenty-four seven. • Light fixtures. Hanging a light pendant over your sink or a beautiful chandelier over your kitchen table can be just what your space needs to tie everything together. • Art and other wall décor. After all of this work, you certainly don’t want to have lots of bare walls and blank spaces! Fill that space up with a mirror, a series of photos, or a wall collage. Picking out the final touches for your kitchen is a more continuous part of the process since it is so personal. While the other preceding steps are able to be completed in a manageable amount of time, this is the step that may actually never be ‘finished,’ and that’s okay! Keep your kitchen fresh, and mix up accessories for a nice, subtle change every couple of months.
6
Enjoy!
With the help of these six simple steps, you now have a kitchen that is not only functional and beautiful, but most importantly, a space that is entirely you. It is now time for you to sit back, take a deep breath, and enjoy this new kitchen that you have worked so hard to create. It may finally be time to host that dinner party you’ve been putting off, volunteer for that bake sale you have always avoided in the past, or simply cook a meal and actually relish in the moment! Be proud of your space and know that your dedication and motivation has finally paid off. And remember, while these steps are geared towards kitchen redesign, you can follow this same basic format for any remodel that you wish to take on. As long as there is focus and passion, you cannot go wrong. I sincerely hope you love and adore your new kitchen just as much as I do mine!

WALL MOUNT SINKS Choosing the perfect sink for your bathroom can be difficult, especially if you don’t have much space to work with. Don’t worry though, there is a solution to save you space. Wall mount sinks are perfect for any bathroom but especially ones that are spatially challenged. These sinks are fixed directly to the wall without having to sit on a countertop. By adding a wall mount sink, you are opening up the floor space in the bathroom. This instantly makes any bathroom look bigger and the sink will be much easier to clean. Whitehaus Collection offers a variety of wall mount sinks in their Isabella Collection. There is a range of style with the options of a corner wall mount basin to rectangular, decorative basins. All sinks in this collection are made from the hardest clay material on earth and are as durable as they are luxurious. The vitreous china finish makes them resistant to cracks, chips and stains, making them the perfect sink for the wear and tear of the bathroom. In the Isabella Collection, you can find the perfect wall mount sink to suit your style’s space.

KITCHEN COLORS
More than any other room in the home, the kitchen is the most used space. It is a place where people gather to enjoy food and company. It is also a reflection of you and those who live with you. The kitchen also plays a big part in dictating the overall feel of the home. So why play it safe with mundane kitchen colors? Here are six fresh color ideas to help you transform your kitchen.
Soothing Green If serenity is what you seek, try going with a green kitchen. The kitchen can also be a great place to relax. Using soothing greens creates a calming sanctuary out of your kitchen. When picking a green tone you must be very careful. Look for colors that are earthy, but warm. Green can quickly turn in to an unwelcoming color if it is not used correctly. Compliment the greens in your kitchen with marble or limestone counter tops to add a harmonious contrast. Potted clean air plants, like hostas or herbs like basil or cilantro, add some lively decoration and increase the air quality. Don't be afraid to play around with incorporating botanical prints to add some texture as well. White subway tile can also add character to a green kitchen by giving it some urban flair. A green kitchen is a sure way to create a peaceful space with lots of personality and life.

Radiant Red If you would rather add some excitement to your life, try going with red. Red is an energetic color that adds warmth and vitality to a space. Picking subtle hues is crucial for success with a red kitchen. Aim for tones that have hints of terracotta or cinnamon in them. Avoid tones that look like they are better suited for fire trucks and stop signs. Unlike monochromatic kitchens, when creating a red kitchen it's best to mix it up with different tones. Rustic, almost faded black colored furniture like stools, tables or islands can help complete this look. For fixtures, it is best to go with more modern styles and using stainless steel or chrome finishes. The JEM Collection WH2070824 by Whitehaus is a sleek, contemporary accent that will enhance your space. Red kitchens are alluring and will liven up a much used area.
Wonderfully White When people think of a classic kitchen, one of the first colors that comes to mind is white. Despite while being classic, it can be extremely dynamic and unique. When creating a white kitchen, you should commit to all white for everything. This means walls, ceiling, cabinets, back board and sink. Accessorize with stainless steel fixtures and knobs to add texture. This will help break up the neutral colored space. The Farmhaus Fireclay WH3719 sink by Whitehaus is the perfect way to add character. When creating a successful white kitchen, it is important to mix whites with different finishes. Use glossy whites, flat whites and some tones that are in-between. Find the mixture that suits you best. The white palette is timeless and therefore could be used in almost any style kitchen.

Boldly Black Homeowners in the past have shied away from using black in the kitchen, however, black can make a bold presence. You can use only little black, such as black cabinets and still make a huge impact. You can also be adventurous and use black for your walls, cabinets, etc. If you are using a large amount of black in your space, make sure you balance it with a generous amount of natural light. If natural light is limited, you can still balance the black so it's not as heavy. Pair black cabinets with plenty of neutrals and reflective fixtures to make the kitchen feel spacious. A great combination is a black kitchen with copper or brass accents. The Copperhaus WH3020COFC sink by Whitehaus would be a great eyecatching addition to a black kitchen. While it could be risky, if black is done correctly, the impact can be impressive.
Sophisticated Grey Grey is becoming one of the hottest neutral colors in homes. While grey can sometimes look dull, there are ways to make it stand out in your home. Warm, deep greys add sophistication and style to any space. Pair grey with warm materials, such as wood or with contrasting hot and bold hues like red, orange or yellow. Soft greys can be used for kitchen cabinets to make them look elegant. The color grey works with mostly all accessories and other colors that you could possibly want. Black appliances look great alongside medium and dark greys. Pair Whitehaus Collection's Farmhaus Fireclay WH3018 sink to add a white focal point with the Vintage III WHKBLV3-9101 bridge faucet in Oil Rubbed Bronze for some guaranteed elegance. Grey is the ultimate root to sophistication in your kitchen.
Mellow Yellow Light yellow is a winning color in any kitchen. The choices of yellow range from country cottage to industrial chic depending on the exact shade you choose. No matter what shade though, yellow is always friendly and welcoming, yet distinctive enough that it compliments most types of wood. If your kitchen doesn’t get much natural light or could use visual warmth, light yellow is the way to go. Pair yellow with brown granite counter tops and hardwood floors. Add bronze fixtures and accessories in to complete the look. The golden hues from bronze will add interest to the space without clashing with the yellow. Whitehaus Collection offers many different bronze and copper fixtures to help this warm feeling. Yellow is a must for any kitchen that needs to be brightened up.

6 Ways to Bring
SUMMER Into Your Kitchen When summer first arrives, we spare no time moving our entire lives outdoors. Firing up the grill, dining on patios, landscaping and relaxing in the sun and warm air is something we all get used to. However, with the warm weather taking over, homeowners dismiss simple ways to freshen up the indoors.
Change the Textiles
Play with Produce
Fresh Arrangements
You can lighten up any room in the home by exchanging heavy, dark fabrics for lighter, breezier ones. Change curtains, towels, place mats, and table cloths to crisp white, bright solids or floral patterns.
Turn fruits and vegetables into a centerpiece in your kitchen or dining room table. Add green and red apples into a crisp, white bowl or try lemons in a royal blue bowl for a serious wow factor.
Formal flower arrangements can be too heavy and staged for the summer. Take a hint from nature and casually arrange garden-like flowers around the kitchen. Toss in some fragrant herbs, like mint or sage for an extra bonus.
Fresh Herbs
Fresh Air
Declutter Countertops
Whether you put together a creative wall-mounted container garden or plant a few basic pots and put them on windowsills, grow some fresh herbs. They are a summer must-have.
Open up those windows. Having fresh air flowing through the house will put everyone in a good mood and keep the kitchen from feeling stuffy.
Summer is all about clean and fresh, so clear off those counter tops and only keep out daily necessities. By doing this your kitchen will look larger and more inviting.

HOW TO SAVE WATER
in 3 easy steps
In the United States, we are afforded the luxury of having clean water available to us at almost every turn. However, the recent trend of droughts in the western part of the country have highlighted that water is not unlimited. Water is a shared resource that we all need to survive and we should treat it as such. These three tips will help you cut down on water consumption in your everyday life so water can continue to be easily shared for generations to come. Photo provided by: Dresner Design www.dresnerdesign.com
1
Using a double bowl sink is an effective way to cut down on water usage. Filling one side with warm, soapy water for washing dishes and the other with cool, clear water to rinse dishes will eliminate the need to let the water run the entire time. According to the EPA, using this method only requires half of the water you would use if you let the water run continuously while washing dishes. Whitehaus Collection’s Duet Series WH3719 double bowl sink is a great way to add style to your kitchen and save water at the same time. 38

Make sure to fix any leaks you find around your house. A slow drip from a leaky faucet can waste up to twenty gallons of water a day. A leaky toilet can waste up to two hundred gallons of water a day. Over the course of a year, this adds up.
3
More than any other room in the home, the bathroom uses the most water. Toilets account for nearly 30% of an average home's indoor water consumption. Older toilets use up to six gallons per flush. Using modern, low-flow dual flush toilets can cut down on water usage drastically. Whitehaus Collection offers low-flush, dual-flush toilets that use only 0.8 gallons per flush at a partial flush and 1.6 gallons per flush at a full flush, like the WHMFL3222-EB.
