Pause For

By Sean Peralta | Savanna Key Club

During this warm month of August, Savanna Keyclubbers took some time off of their phones in order to help out their communities through the app, “Pause For.” Pause For is an app that allows you to contribute to a cause such as planting trees and providing meals for families in need. All you have to do is pause the use of your phone for a set amount of time. Although when I first used the app, I was scared that I was going to miss an important message in the hour I paused my phone. However, thanks to the help of my fellow members who did it along with me, I felt confident that I could last an hour without my phone. Eventually, I forgot about my phone for the rest of the day and I felt more aware of the things around me. It’s amazing how putting your phone down for an hour or two can change the way you view your day. When I finished my pause, I felt very accomplished at myself and also very happy at the fact that I was also able to help someone in my community. Many other members also felt that way. Giang Ong, a sophomore at Savanna, said “I really love how it helps you stay focused on your work while also helping global causes. It not only benefits me when I use it, but also those who are in need of assistance so it’s a very good app in my opinion.” Along with the many other users of the app, I would agree with her opinion. Pause For has provided our members an unlimited amount of opportunities to work more effectively while also helping out another cause. By pausing for an hour, you could provide one meal for a person in need. One hour could also provide a vaccination for a newborn puppy or plant a new tree. This app has helped me realize that how we spend our time is very important and that rather than continuing to scroll mindlessly on my phone, I could pause for an hour, do something more productive and contribute to a cause. This is why Pause For is truly a wonderful app. It allows you to continue supporting your community while helping better yourself and becoming more mindful of the world around you.
