all about KCYA Kansas City Young Audiences, a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1961. Our mission is to engage all youth in the arts, promote creativity, and inspire success in education.

The result is a proven endeavor the builds critical thinking skills, communication, collaboration and creativity and has the power to transform lives – and the world around us.

We believe we have the opportunity to do something extraordinary – to help children discover new ways of seeing things and expressing themselves.

KCYA has two main services: • In-School Programs, where teaching artists visit schools and use the arts to enhance understanding of curriculum subjects. • The Community School of the Arts, where children come to learn more and develop skills in the arts.

We focus on harnessing the power of the arts to engage and educate children through a broad array of programs delivered by the highest quality teaching artists. We build upon our 55-year history of using the arts to expand the minds, and thinking, and confidence of children.

INTRO TO VOCAL PERFORMANCE

NEW! Explore the wide world of singing in a group class! This new offering from KCYA teaches the fundamentals of good singing in any style: breathing, posture, matching pitch and song delivery. There will be opportunities for solo singing throughout the course. The final class will culminate in a performance. GARAGE BAND CLASSES

Play, collaborate, and create with others in a ‘garage’ rock band format. Every member will have the chance to try out the various instruments and roles: electric guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals. Through experimentation and practice the group will create its own unique sound. Students will learn classic cover tunes, new arrangements, how to record (using home recording software), the ‘band’ will choose their own name, share their music on Sound Cloud and burn CD’s to keep. Prior experience on guitar, keyboard, bass or drums would be greatly appreciated but is not necessary. Advanced Garage Band requires instructor approval. Garage Band students are invited to perform at the CSA Student Showcase at the Buffalo room each semester.
