Mentoring

T

he 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc. is comprised of African-American men who were able to traverse the path from adolescence to adulthood to become educated, successful and professional men of color. Our members have a unique insight into the challenge faced by AfricanAmerican males, and are models of accountability in their communities. We serve as a bridge to help AfricanAmerican youth span the canyon between adolescence and young adulthood. We employ a “mentor-network” or “mentor team” model that exposes mentees to the diverse group of men, opinions, and points of view in our organization. Members begin as volunteers, demonstrating a willingness to roll up their sleeves and work. All volunteers go through a background check and series of interviews before becoming a member. Members are training in “Mentoring the 100 Way”, a patented training program developed by the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. after years of mentoring experiences. The weekly mentoring calendar follows the school year from September to May. Programs meet on Saturdays from 9AM - 12PM and Tuesdays from 3PM-5PM. We host multiple locations on the Southside, Westside, South Suburbs, and Western Suburbs to be convenient to both the mentors and mentees.

College Scholarship Fair 100 Black Men of Chicago | Corporate Sponsorship Guide

he College Scholarship Fair (CSF) is the signature event of the 100 Black Men of Chicago (100 BMC). Over the past eleven years, the CSF has evolved into the premier event of its type in the Midwest. The CSF caters to students from Chicago, surrounding suburbs, downstate Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Missouri. During its tenure hosting the CSF, participating colleges and universities have provided millions in scholarships and grants with thousands of college acceptances to participating high school students. Kicking off the College Scholarship Fair weekend is our invitation only Honors Student Reception (HSR). This event provides a unique opportunity for high achieving students and their families. Given the quality of the colleges, universities, and students involved, the HSR has quickly the most anticipated evening of college-recruiting season. The HSR brings together 250 of the best prepared students with 40 of the most selective colleges from across the United States. Students that attend this event average a minimum 3.3 grade point average and 23 on the ACT. College recruiters come to this event understanding the students that they meet will have many choices of where to attend college, and know that presentation of generous scholarships and financial aid packages are necessary to compete for these students. Over this time, 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc., has invested considerable time and effort toward implementing programming designed to help close the achievement gap in academics between African-American youth and other ethnic groups. A cornerstone of this effort is a college prep initiative, launched to address the quality and quantity of information and resources made available to parents and youth who aspire to go to college. These young people have the desire to pursue higher education, but often lack the access to opportunities to become better prepares, acquire necessary funding, or to participate in college preparatory programs that would make them better candidates for college acceptance. Some programs sponsored by the 100 BMC include: college campus visitations, specialized tutoring, and workshops featuring how to prepare for and fund a college education.

Annual Benefit & Awards Gala

T

he 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc., presents each year a fundraising gala, designed to raise funds for the programs we provide to the students we mentor. This event allows us to showcase the students who have participated in our programs, giving them an opportunity to connect and network with professionals related to fields for which they are studying. This gives our sponsors a clear summary of how their dollars are spent and the investment that they continue to make in the lives of those students within our urban communities. It also represents an elegant evening of entertainment, while recognizing the contributions of significant civic, political or religious leaders, who have influenced change to improve the human condition of those in need of vital educational and social services.
