Background •  Founded by Richard and Céline Vipiana in 1947 in Paris, France •  Started as a children’s shoe store •  Madame Céline managed the designs


Important Dates •  1959: Women’s shoe line introduced •  1966: Handbag collection launched •  1996 : Céline became a member of LVMH


Faces of Céline •  1997: Michael Kors becomes Lead Designer •  2004: Roberto Menichetti takes over as Lead Designer •  2005: Ivana Omazic becomes Creative Head •  2008: Phoebe Philo becomes Creative Director


Michael Kors •  Created Céline’s ready to wear division •  Established a strong celebrity following •  Designed iconic pieces such as the Swarovski-­‐crystal pants and the Boogie Bag



Roberto Menichetti •  Presented two collections •  Not well received by the critics •  Was released from Céline in 2005



Ivana Omazic •  Served as Creative Head for three years •  Produced collections that mimicked other designers of that time •  Lacked the innovation needed to bring Céline to its full potential



Phoebe Philo •  Revived the brand after a long draught •  Created iconic handbag styles such as the Phantom, Trapeze, and the Mini Luggage •  Recently redefined the Céline woman




Redefining the Celine Woman •  In 2013 Philo decided to recreate the Céline look in her Spring Summer 2014 collection •  Wanted this collection to evoke more feeling •  Changed her simplistic clothing into canvas’s

Hungarian photographer, sculptor, and filmmaker who rose to fame in France during the 20th Century

Inspiration to Collection •  Images of his photographed graffiti made an appearance in this collection

Inspiration to Collection •  Circular brush strokes featured on the silk tops •  Color palette of red, green, and yellow tones mixed with powder pinks, sands, and mint hues

Inspiration Street Art •

Jean-Michel Basquiat: Famous American artist originally known for his graffiti. Soon became an integral artist in the Neo- Expressionism movement.

Keith Haring: Artist and social activist who reflected the New York street culture in his work.

Inspiration to Collection Brought a bold new look to the line and added feeling, movement, and excitement to the collection.
