Bringing the Heat Pinto Horse Association youth are known for bringing the intensity to the arena. Youth member Brandy Smith said, “There’s nothing like a little pressure.” The pressure will be high for Brandy during the Billie Cousins Memorial Youth Versatility Showcase tonight after the last class in the Ford Truck Arena. For her, the class is one of her favorites. “I’ve always liked doing it and have versatile horses,” she said. “So it’s really fun.” The showcase is a fourpart class. Each exhibitor will be competing in halter, western pleasure, hunter under saddle and barrel racing, without ever exiting the arena. Brandy’s favorite section of the versatility is the barrel racing. “I like the speed, and I like being able to show that the
horse can do anything,” she said. This will be Brandy’s third year to show in the showcase. The past two years she participated, she is proud to say her parents were awarded as the best grooms. Two grooms are allowed into the arena with each exhibitor to help with tack changes between the four sections of the class. This year, Brandy is hoping a large crowd comes to watch. “The more cheering the better,” she said. “Especially for the barrels. They’re fun.” After the versatility, the youth Hippology team and individual winners will be announced.
