It ’s complicated.
FIGHTING SUCKS. Sometimes your Prince Charming isn’t always, well— charming. Arguing can be healthy for any realtionship, but negative energy can easily get out of hand. Take a moment to breathe. Pillow fights are a classic childhood activity that release your agressive energy. This clever product helps you be more rational by activating those childhood emotions to alleviate stress while helping you build a stronger bond. I recently ended a complicated relationship that lasted two years. While moving on was difficult, a conceptual theme I’ve been developing this semester is positivity. Inspired by Bryan Ku’s Pillow Fight concept and Barbara Kruger’s graphic style, I created a product that reflected the idea of taking toxic moments in a relationship and making them a bonding opportunity.

Q: Why were these colors used for the packaging? The color palette is neutral, but suprisingly cycnical. Dark Brown is viewed as both a positive and negative color, meaning both strong but also sad and depressive. Dark yellow, on the other hand, interestingly inclines toward lack of love and low self-worth. The function of this product proves that negative energy in an environment can be overcome by bonding moments it creates.
DESIGN PROCESS
1 My first maquette consisted of Helevtica Neue and vibrant colors. The result was an offputting mechanical look that wasn’t appropriate the project. 2 I decided then that handwriting was the best option because of the personality it can portray. I took eighteen writing samples to decide which text would look best. 3 I then expiremented with various patterns for emotional effect. In the end though, I favored simplicity over complicating the design with colors and patterns that could be interpreted differently than I intended.
