Madrid Madrid, the capital of Spain, is a cosmopolitan city that combines the most modern infrastructures and the status as an economic, financial, administrative and service centre, with a large cultural and artistic heritage, a legacy of centuries of exciting history. Strategically located in the geographic centre of the Iberian Peninsula at an altitude of 646 m above sea level, Madrid has one of the most important historic centres of all the great European cities. This heritage merges seamlessly with the city's modern and convenient infrastructures, a wide-ranging offer of accommodation and services, and all the latest state-of-the-art technologies in audiovisual and communications media. These conditions, together with all the drive of a dynamic and open society –as well as high-spirited and friendly– have made this metropolis one of the great capitals of the Western world. It has been populated since the Lower Palaeolithic era, although it was not until 1561 that King Philip II made Madrid the capital city of his vast empire.

The historic centre, also known as the "Madrid of Los Austrias" (in reference to the Hapsburg monarchs), and the spectacular Plaza Mayor square –inaugurated in 1620 and one of the most popular and typical sites in Spain– are a living example of the nascent splendour of the city in the 16th and 17th centuries. Near the Plaza Mayor is the area known as the "aristocratic centre" where the jewel in the crown is the Royal Palace, an imposing building dating from the 17th century featuring a mixture of Baroque and classicist styles. Beside it is the Plaza de Oriente square, the Teatro Real opera house, and the modern cathedral of La Almudena which was consecrated in 1993 by Pope John Paul II. The Puerta del Sol square is surrounded by a varied and select area of shops and businesses, and the "Paseo del Arte" art route –whose name derives from its world-class museums, palaces and gardens– are further elements in an array of monuments which includes particularly the Bank of Spain building, the Palace of Telecommunications, and the fountains of Cibeles and Neptune.

Art and culture play a key role in Madrid's cultural life. The capital has over 60 museums which cover every field of human knowledge. Highlights include the Prado Museum, one of the world's most important art galleries; the ThyssenBornemisza Museum, with over 800 paintings ranging from primitive Flemish artists through to the avant-garde movements. And the Reina Sofía National Art Centre, dedicated to contemporary Spanish art and containing works by Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Juan Gris, among others. Madrid's extensive and beautifully maintained parks and gardens – like the Retiro park, formerly the recreational estate to the Spanish monarchs, the Casa de Campo and the Juan Carlos I park– offer inhabitants and visitors the chance to enjoy the sunshine, stroll, row on its lakes or feed the squirrels, in one of the greenest capitals in Europe. The importance of its international airport, which every week receives over 1,000 flights from all over the world, its two Conference Centres, the modern trade fair ground in the Campo de las Naciones, and over

80,000 places in other meeting centres make Madrid one of Europe's most attractive business hubs. But if there's one thing that sets Madrid apart, it must be its deep and infectious passion for life that finds its outlet in the friendly and open character of its inhabitants. Concerts, exhibitions, ballets, a select theatrical offering, the latest film releases, the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of the best Spanish and international gastronomy, to savour the charms of its bars and taverns... all these are just a few of the leisure options on offer in Madrid. There is also a tempting array of shops and businesses featuring both traditional establishments and leading stores offering top brands and international labels. Madrid's lively nightlife is another key attraction of Spain's capital, due to its variety and the exciting atmosphere to be found in its bars, pubs, clubs and flamenco halls. Other daytime entertainment options include traditional outdoor dances, popular festivities and the San Isidro bullfighting festival, regarded as being the most important in the world.

Data provided at the press conference by the AECC:

More than 700,000 Spaniards under 14 are exposed to smoke in their homes (National Health Survey 2011-2012). 8.9% of young people between 14 and 18 years smoke daily and up to 19% of young people between 15 and 24 years (2014-2015). 100 Days for 10,000 Euros On the 1st of September 2017, Steve Hall will start off on a 100 day virtual tour of Spain. Yes, a digital tour where he will be viewing the four corners of Spain through the eyes of local hosts and writers. It will be a virtual tour of Spain which should be of interest to thousands already here in Spain and those thinking of coming. He will be shown what is the very best of Spain and what makes Spain unique. He will be “staying in” favourite but modest hostels in Calatayud and Barcelona and magnificent hotels in Madrid and Ronda. He will take a look at some of the most exquisite properties on sale as well as the most stunning sunsets and mountainscapes through words, images and video. He will “mingle” with the tourists in Benalmádena and the locals in Zaragoza. He will “catch” trains and boats and planes and, no doubt, a few ALSA buses. His company along the way will be the ladies of Costa Women who are “partners” for the tour and the members of www.myexpatsworld.com who will be sponsors. Notionally, he will be “driving” in the car kindly supplied by Coys of Torrevieja for the journey. Steve is famed for his staple diet of pizza (the food of the gods) and coffee (the drink of the gods) so I know that Lauren Aloise and her team at Devour Tours will, no doubt, help him to understand the finer points of Spanish cuisine.

The Virtual Tour The journey will start on the first of September in Madrid. It will move north to Bilbao and then west to Galicia. After visiting Santiago de la Compostela at the end of the "Camino" he will go inland through the west of Spain down to Andalucia and Gibraltar before taking the ferry to the Canaries. A few days later he will return to the mainland, visit Granada, Almeria and Cartagena and then spend time with his friend Keith Nicol in Torrevieja where Steve lived for many years. He will be at the Expat Spain Exhibition in the Salt City on the 11th/12th November before he goes to the Balearics. On his return to the Levante he will amble up the coast to Denia, Jåvea and Calpe before he arrives at Spain’s third city, Valencia. After a few days in a favourite part of Spain, he's off to finish the tour in Barcelona. The highlights of this virtual/digital tour will be ironically some "in real life" visits .... in Madrid where he will attend an ACN International Event, the Torrevieja Exhibition where he will be working with Ali Steed from Expat Lifeplan and at and the Writers and Bloggers about Spain Annual Retreat in November. See you there?

Steve Hall

So, what is this journey? Why is he doing it? At least half a dozen reasons, I am told. Something of a homage to Spain, a pilgrimage to Spain, if you like. He has lived here 15+ years and is embarrassed that there are still provinces in the north that he does not “know” despite spending a lot of these years “on the road.” He aims to raise 10,000 euros (100 euros per day) for the AECC (Spanish Cancer Charity) via Rock Against Cancer Charity Equally over this period, he has had contact with hundreds of ebuddies who he would love to meet. (I wonder how many know how deaf he is!) He is active in a writers’ group and he would like to spotlight their work. One of his friend's is Jorge Varo from Regus and Steve will be visiting every Regus in Spain .....and Gibraltar!

He is a passionate "Remainer" and is fascinated by people's hopes and fears of Brexit. He will be looking for reactions. He is also planning to walk the Camino del Norte once an injury clears, so this will be great preparation. Most of all, he hopes that you, the reader, enjoy this 100 day tour of the Kingdom of Spain. The route is going to take in a lot of Spanish football grounds .....watch this space!

Please follow him as he travels his journey through Spain. The journey will be charted on www.thisisspain.info, www.HotCosta.com and will be shared on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, G+, Pinterest, Instagram, EmpireKred and many other social media channels. At the end of the journey he will produce an e-Book which will be sent to every single supporter. Obviously, this makes it a great opportunity for Tourist Information Centres, town councils, travel companies and even commercial entities to become involved. Please, shout if you have any suggestions. In 2010 Steve did a similar journey but this time on a cycle and “In Real Life as he cycled around the United Kingdom to raise awareness for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. That was a journey of four months and 5000 kilometers. Then in 2015 he did a 90 Day Virtual Tour of Spain that was very successful on every level. This latest tour of Spain with more supporters and more focus on the Charity fundraising looks a little easier!

Conveying a Message in a Subtle Manner Through Your Branded Coffee Cup Traditional advertising is dying. Research has demonstrated that millennials do not trust ads and hate the very idea of being sold to. They neither want to be targeted or broadcast at on TV, radio and social media as well, and they remain indifferent to billboards. Millennials make up more than 40% of those who have recourse to ad blockers. Marketing to this generation is hence a dilemma. This generation — one of the largest in history — seeks engagement and care. Placing relevant and impactful information on paper cups at an event would be a subtle manner to urge them to have a look at the brand while associating positive feelings to it. It is a fact that most people would not put their cups down until they have swallowed their drinks. Using this detail may render a paper cup a powerful marketing tool that is bound to stay in the hands of a coffee drinker — for instance, one who is a potential consumer or client — for an average of 37 minutes. A consumer raises and lowers the printed paper cups to eye level over 20 times while consuming the beverage. Branded paper cups are undeniably a reliable technique to grab the attention of even the busiest person. Unlike billboards or traditional ads that are noticed for only three to six seconds by solely a few people, branded paper cups have a higher chance of impact. Paper cups branding do not entail massive costs Unlike traditional advertising, branding paper cups do not require a heavy budget allocation. This strategy is an attractive and affordable marketing alternative. It has been demonstrated that businesses capitalizing on this strategy have had fruitful returns beyond expectation. Branded paper cups can be used in multiple events. The opportunities to use branded paper cups are multiple. Functions, social gatherings, parties, charity events are all platforms to sell a business.

Raising brand awareness Whatever the event, when people present are drinking coffee or tea in a branded paper cup, at some point in time the conversation may head towards the message or the logo on the cup. It has been proven that a good logo plays a key role in a brand strategy as it provides consumers with an instant brand recognition of businesses, services or products. An impactful message on the cup portraying the values and goals of the business would have the same effect. An attractive design on high-quality paper cups is also a sign for a serious, reliable and professional business. Advances in mobile technology should equally be considered. Apart from logos and messages, QR Codes or other relevant codes may be printed on paper cups for coupons, discounts and other offers. This will urge the target audience to further connect and engage itself with the brand through this call-to-action technique. Once an interest has been triggered, chances are that these drinkers may turn into potential clients. This is a perfect means to raise the chances for brand awareness. Having people to talk about a brand is a great way for a business to stand out, even if the event is a small one. Messages on branded paper cups stay impressively memorable Using branded coffee cups is a hit marketing strategy in Australia and the Middle East. The reason is simple. A study comprising of 900 coffee consumers showed that all participants could remember what they viewed on the printed paper cups. 98% of the participants could even remember what they read in the message printed. This is a great contrast to usual advertising methods: 97% of ads go unnoticed by the population.

Finally, There is Now a Cure for Male Pattern Baldness After 25 years of dedicated research, development and clinical treatment, Dr. Robert Nettles (initially a hair transplant surgeon who himself suffered from androgenetic alopecia) developed a new generation of precision medicines that are personalized, proactive and reverse the hair loss process in what is the most revolutionary medical breakthrough of our time. Why was Dr. Nettles able to make this discovery when so many others have tried and failed? As Plato says, "necessity is the mother of invention." Digital microscopic hair loss assessment. Combined with DNA assessment based on lab results, Dr. Nettles is able to create a precise combination of FDA-approved medicines that stop hair loss and reverse the process to regrow thinning hair. "At a young age, I saw first my father, then older brothers thin, then bald. Deducing a similar future for myself, I started researching genetic inheritance patterns and DNA, later training in hair transplant surgery, including working alongside pioneers of the FUE method. I soon realized that transplants do not stop the progress of hair loss, and had an AHA moment when discovering that just as we now know good and bad types of cholesterol, so testosterone also has good and bad components, and the ratio between them would lead to my ultimate discovery of precision medicine." The difference between Dr. Nettles' approach and what others are working on is focus. While everyone else is caught up trying to treat

the symptoms or clone the hair follicle — Dr. Nettles has been laser-focused on discovering, then resolving the root cause of hair loss (an inherited chemical imbalance within our bodies). This discovery and its treatment did not happen overnight. Dr. Nettles has been researching, developing and perfecting his treatment over the last 25 years. He now has 9 years of successful clinical treatment of hundreds of patients under his belt to prove it. The biggest challenge for Dr. Nettles? "Marketing — the US does not require truth in advertising for non-FDA approved products. Anyone can say their product cures hair loss or regrows hair as long as it does not penetrate our skin and change anything. There are thousands of products spending millions of dollars on marketing saying they cure hair loss, when in fact they do nothing at all. Stop and reGrow uses only FDA-approved active ingredients and we don't inflate prices to spend large dollars on advertising. Our goal is to ensure our program is affordable for as many men as possible." Why can they trust Dr. Nettles? There is no risk in trying his program. He is so confident it works, he offers a money-back guarantee. If, after 12 months on the Stop and reGrow program, accepted candidates have not seen their hair regrow as promised, he will refund 100% of the money they spent on the Stop and reGrow medicines. http://www.stopandregrow.com

Corgi James Bond Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger 50th Anniversary In 1965, one year after the movie Goldfinger was released, Corgi started production of the Goldfinger James Bond Aston Martin DB5, and won the first Toy of the Year for the model. Now, in 2015 Corgi presents a new release, fully featured DB5 for a new generation of James Bond fans. The model is presented in the iconic silver livery of the film (£19.99), and a limited number will also be produced in a gold finish (£19.99) The entire production run is already sold out but some are already on eBay priced from a reasonable £35 to a silly £120 plus... In 1965 Corgi won the first Toy of the Year Award for the Goldfinger James Bond Aston Martin DB5. Now, in 2015 Corgi present a new release; a fully equipped DB5 for a new generation of James Bond fans. Presented in the iconic silver livery of the film, it is displayed in a special retro-styled anniversary box. No word as yet if they will produce another run of this iconic car. Features include: Working ejector seat Front-mounted machine guns Bullet-proof screen Over-riders James Bond & Baddie

Finding an original Corgi Car: Model 261 It's not so easy to find a 50 year old Corgi 'toy' car in good condition these days. Most people search ebay as the first option and sometimes this produces great results. Just one, was found recently at: www.tintoycar.com and priced at $500. On ebay.co.uk, 50 year old cars in near perfect or reconditioned condition, sell at a guide price of around ÂŁ150, with box and in as new condition, some with additional figues and baddies too. What collectors are on the lookout for are cars from the first batch of the 'Corgi 261 James Bond' die-casts... WELL, one of 3.5 million made over two to three years as the car was also seen in Thunderball. Along with the 1966 Batmobile (which sell for over ÂŁ500), this is possibly the most iconic toy car: perhaps of all time. Designed in a mad rush for the xmas market... at this point the factory almost dropped all other makes and models to complete and manufacture ready for delivery. Tooling, moulds and manufacture was reputed to have cost in 1965/6 about ÂŁ40,000: quite a lump sum in today's money. These assembly ladies in the factory could assemble and rivet these cars in an incredible 20 to 30 seconds; a minimum of two per minute. From metal trays of assorted internal bits for the 261, they had to put the car upside down, put in the roof; glass; guns; overriders; interior; rear bullet proof shield; exhaust; a baddie with gun and Bond: James Bond... All that, in less than 30 seconds without dropping it, plus then adding the rivets. The 261 had many shades and colour variants over its short life ranging from really gold, to a sandy barely metallic gold, almost flat colours, and coatings varied daily. Cars should always come with James Bond driver figure and a flying chinaman. The DB5 had silver bumpers, revolving numberplate, headlights and chrome grille with red rear stop lamp detailing. And if you find a nice one, it will be 'shocking; trully shocking'.

MM's Ultimate MM - Man's Man

Sean Connery Sean Connery is best known for portraying the character James Bond, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables (1987).

His film career also includes such films as Marnie (1964), The Name of the Rose (1986), the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade(1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Murder on the Orient Express (1974),

DragonHeart (1996) and The Rock (1996). Connery has been polled as "The Greatest Living Scot" and "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". In 1989, he was proclaimed "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine, and in 1999, at age 69, he was voted "Sexiest Man of the Century". Thomas Sean Connery was born on August 25, 1930 in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. He is of Irish and Scottish descent. At the age of 23, he had a choice between becoming a professional footballer or an actor, and even though he showed much promise in the sport, he chose acting and said it was one of his more intelligent moves. Connery's breakthrough came in the role of secret agent James Bond. He was reluctant to commit to a film series, but understood that if the films succeeded his career would greatly benefit. He played the character in the first five Bond films: Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), and You Only Live Twice (1967) - then appeared again as Bond in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983). All seven films were commercially successful. James Bond, as portrayed by Connery, was selected as the third-greatest hero in cinema history by the American Film Institute. James Bond's creator, Ian Fleming, originally doubted Connery's casting, saying, "He's not what I envisioned of James Bond looks", and "I'm looking for Commander Bond and not an overgrown stuntman," adding that Connery (muscular, 6' 2", and a Scot) was unrefined. Fleming's girlfriend told him that Connery had the requisite sexual charisma, and Fleming changed his mind after the successful Dr. No (1962) premiere. Sean married actress Diane Cilento in 1962 and they had a son, Jason Connery, born on January 11, 1963. The marriage ended in divorce in 1973. In 1975 he married Micheline Roquebrune and they have stayed married, they have no children together. - IMDb Mini Biography By: A.G. and Pedro Borges

Sean Connery Trivia Ranked #14 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. [October 1997] In 1953, he entered the Mr. Universe contest, finishing third in the tall man's division. He was voted People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989. He has two small tattoos on his right arm. One says "Scotland forever", the other "Mum and Dad." He got them when he enlisted in the Royal Navy at the age of 16. Formerly worked as a coffin polisher, milk delivery man and bricklayer. Major contributor to the Scottish National Party (SNP). Voted 'Sexiest Man of the Century' by People Magazine. [1999] Said in an interview that during the filming of Never Say Never Again (1983), he was taking martial arts lessons and in the process angered the instructor who in turn broke his wrist. Connery stayed with the wrist broken for a number of years thinking it was only a minor pain... the instructor was Steven Seagal. Used to live in Marbella, Spain, near a golf course where he played daily when not filming. He left following disagreements with the local press, and now resides in the Bahamas where he plays golf much less frequently. He was made a Knight Bachelor in the 2000 Queen's Millennium Honors List for his services to Film Drama. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in an hour-long investiture ceremony at Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace in Scotland on July 5, 2000 He joined the Merchant Navy as a teenager but stomach ulcers forced him to leave. He received a disability pension for a period after this. After his service with the Merchant Navy, he worked as a nude model for Edinburgh art students.

During his time as a milkman, Connery delivered to Fettes School in Edinburgh - the same school which James Bond attended in Ian Fleming's novels following his expulsion from Eton. Received the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh in 1991. Was paid a huge sum to return as James Bond for Diamonds Are Forever (1971), setting a record. It was donated to his Scottish charity. His favorite Bond film is From Russia with Love (1963). Played James Bond in Thunderball (1965). 18 years later, he reprised the role in the film's remake, Never Say Never Again (1983). He is the only Bond actor to appear in both EON and non EON productions of Bond. Turned down the title role in the original The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), which he later admitted was a huge mistake on his part. Announced his retirement in an interview in New York City during the Tartan Week 2006 celebrations. "I have retired for good," he said. Started smoking when he was nine years old. The extraordinary success of Goldfinger (1964), which was released in December 1964, and of 1965's Thunderball (1965) propelled Connery to the top of Quigley Publications' annual Top Ten Money Making Stars poll in 1965. He remains the only British male star to be the #1 box office star in America. Was almost killed filming the helicopter chase scene in From Russia with Love (1963) when the inexperienced helicopter pilot flew in too close and almost decapitated him. In Italy, fans called him 'Mr. Kisskiss Bangbang'. Regards the character he played in The Man Who Would Be King (1975) as his favorite movie role. Was dating Jill St. John and Lana Wood at the same time while filming Diamonds Are Forever (1971).

The 210-piece exhibit combines her pictorial work and her designs for the theatre, advertising, interiors, fashion, textiles, and dresses. Born in Ukraine, Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) began her artistic training in 1904 in Karlsruhe (Germany), continuing in Paris two years later. In France she met avant-garde artists, including Picasso, Braque, and Robert Delaunay, whom she married in 1910. Delaunay explored the language of avant-garde art in a wide range of media, with bright colours and techniques which recalled her Russian origins. Together with her husband, the artist founded the “simultaneism” movement, which used colour to create space and forms in paintings. Paris became a source of inspiration, but it was in Madrid, in 1917, where they transposed the idea of “simultaneous design” to everyday life. Therefore, her period in Madrid is the central section of the exhibition.

Stay Safe at Halloween

30 Things You Didn't Know About 'Young Frankenstein' It's been more than 40 years since the billiant Young Frankenstein hoit our screens and so it's time once again to celebrate the Mel Brooks Halloween favourite. Co-writers Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks penned the script and Brooks directed an all-star cast en route to almost $87 million domestic, not bad for a movie that cost $3 million to make. We've found 20 great facts you might not know about the movie itself, as well as its wild production. Storyline Written by Flavio Rizzardi <spillo@maya.dei.unpid.it> A young neurosurgeon (Gene Wilder) inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. In the castle he finds a funny hunchback called Igor, a pretty lab assistant named Inga and the old housekeeper, frau Blucher -iiiiihhh!-. Young Frankenstein believes that the work of his grandfather is only crap, but when he discovers the book where the mad doctor described his reanimation experiment, he suddenly changes his mind... 1. Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks got into a big fight while writing one night in Wilder's apartment. Brooks threw a huge temper tantrum, yelling and raging, and eventually storming out into the street. After a short time, Wilder's phone rang and Brooks was on the other end. He said, "Who was that madman you had in your house!? I could hear the yelling all the way over here!! You should never let crazy people into your house, don't you know that!!? They could be dangerous!!" That was Mel's way of apologizing, according to Wilder.

2. During preproduction, Brooks found Ken Strickfaden, who had made the elaborate electrical machinery for the lab sequences in the Universal Studios Frankenstein films. Strickfaden had saved all the equipment and had it stored in his garage. Brooks then made a deal to rent it all for Young Frankenstein and give Strickfaden the screen credit he'd deserved, but hadn't gotten, for the original films. 3. Teri Garr and Madeline Kahn were originally supposed to play each other's roles. But Kahn ultimately decided she'd rather play Elizabeth, the fiance, leaving Brooks with the task of recasting Inga the assistant. He called Garr in and told her that if she could come back the next day with a German accent, he'd like her for Inga. She looked at him and said, "Vell, yes, I could do zee German ackzent tomorrow. I could come back zis afternoon!" And the part was hers. Garr has said that she based her accent on Cher's wigmaker whom she worked with on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour in 1971. 4. Brooks usually appeared in his own films but Wilder insisted he stay out of Young Frankenstein. The actor felt the funnyman's appearance would ruin the illusion and declared he would only make the film if he promised not to appear in it. Brooks did, however, make off-camera appearances as the howling wolf, Dr. Frankenstein's grandfather, and the shrieking cat.

5. When Columbia Pictures realized Brooks wanted to shoot the film in black and white, they balked, and the director took the project to 20th Century Fox the next day where Alan Ladd Jr. had just taken over. Ladd had no problem with the decision. 6. The brain which Igor is sent to steal is labeled "Hans Delbrück, scientist and saint." There actually was a real life Hans Delbrück; he was a 19th-century German military historian and professor at the University of Berlin. His son Max Delbrück was a 20thcentury biochemist and Nobel laureate. 7. Mel Brooks initially thought that the "Walk this way" gag was too corny and wanted it cut from the film. But, when he saw the audience's reaction to it one night at a screening, he decided to leave it in.The famous "walk this way..." gag was the inspiration for the Aerosmith song of the same name. The band had seen Young Frankenstein in 1974 during a break from recording and Steven Tyler wrote the song the next morning. After the film's release, the joke became so popular Brooks slipped it into History of the World: Part I (1981) and again in Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993). 8. The shifting hump on Igor's back was improvised by Feldman. He had been shifting the thing back and forth for several days as a joke when cast members finally noticed. It was then added to the script. 9. The idea of a dart hitting a cat was improvised on set. When Dr. Frankenstein (Wilder) threw his dart off camera, Brooks quickly screamed like a cat to create the illusion. 10. In the scene after the dart game, when Kenneth Mars's character is leaving the castle, there is a gargoyle on the side of the building that looks like Alfred Hitchcock.

11. Wilder conceived the "Puttin' on the Ritz" scene, but Brooks was resistant to it and felt it would detract from the tone of the Universal horror films in the rest of the film. Wilder recalled being "close to rage and tears" and argued for the scene before Brooks stopped him and said, "It's in!" When Wilder asked why the sudden shift, Brooks said it would be the right thing to do since Wilder fought so hard for it. 12. When they started to film the "Puttin' on the Ritz" scene, no one was sure what Boyle should say as the Frankenstein monster. The first time out of the gate, however, Boyle came up with the hilarious, half-jibberish vocalization, "Puttin on the Riiizzzzz!" 13. The experiment the medical student mentions, where Darwin preserved a worm in fluid until it came to life, is mentioned in Mary Shelley's foreword to the novel Frankenstein. The Darwin in question was Erasmus Darwin, grandfather of the famous Charles Darwin.

14. Supposedly the scene which required the most takes was Igor biting Elizabeth's animal wrap. Each take ended with fur in Feldman's mouth which slayed everyone on set. 15. The Blind Man's parting line, "I was gonna make espresso" was not in the script, but was ad-libbed by Gene Hackman during shooting. This is the reason for the immediate fade to black in the movie, as the crew reportedly erupted into fits of laughter. Hackman was uncredited when the movie was originally released in theaters. 16. Peter Boyle and Marty Feldman were cast, in part, because their mutual agent had a deal with the movie studio. 17. Cloris Leachman (who plays Frau Blücher), on NPR's "Fresh Air" in 2009, claimed that Brooks told her Blücher meant "glue" in German, hence the reason for the horse whinnies every time her character's name is said. However, this isn't true: Blücher bears no resemblance to the German word for glue ("leim"). It's a common name. The horse's terror is really meant to convey she's a frightening person. As Wilder put it, "Lord only knows what she does to them when no one is around". 18. Wilder has said Young Frankenstein is his favorite of all his movies.

19. The original cut of the movie was almost twice as long as the theatrical release, and was considered by all to be an abysmal failure. It was only after a marathon cutting session that the final film was finished. Both Wilder and Brooks considered it to be far superior to the original product. At one point they noted that for every joke that worked, there were three that fell flat. So they went in and trimmed all the jokes that didn't work. 20. Brooks and the cast had so much fun making the movie, and were so upset when principal photography was almost completed, that additional scenes were written to continue shooting. 21: When the monster is being brought back to life, the area around his eyes (and what appears to be his teeth) begin to glow. This was done with a plastic head created to look exactly like that of Peter Boyle. Some fake teeth, fake brain tissue, and a light were used to create the effect. 22: Igor mentions that his grandfather (also named Igor as evidenced by Frederick's first visit to the lab) used to work for Frederick's grandfather. Interestingly in the original Frankenstein (1931) film the assistant's name was Fritz. Igor (spelled Ygor) did not appear until Son of Frankenstein (1939) where he worked for the son of the original Doctor.

23: The clock chimes 13 times at the beginning of the film. 24: One afternoon while shooting, Anne Bancroft (Mrs. Mel Brooks) visited the set and told Teri Garr that she and Mel had seen The Conversation (1974) the night before, which features Garr and Gene Hackman in the cast. Garr replied, "Oh, yeah, that turned out to be a pretty good movie." Bancroft responded, "Honey, *this* is a movie. The Conversation (1974) is a film." 25: While Mel Brooks didn't appear in this film, there is a gargoyle "that looks suspiciously familiar." It is in the very last scene and can be seen on the far left after the camera pulls back from Igor playing the French Horn. It may not be visible in pan-and-scan versions. 26: A couple who are talking on the train near the beginning of the film are having the same conversation in English, then in German. 27: When Frau Blucher is playing the violin to soothe the monster, her fingers stay in the same position the whole time she is playing, yet the music changes even while her fingers are in plain sight 28: The Monster's opinion of fire changes frequently throughout the movie. Sometimes he is deathly afraid of it, at other times he sits for hours next to an open fire showing no reaction at all. 29: As the townspeople gather to storm the castle, the clock in the town square shows 10:30. When the Inspector steps out of the building to address them, the clock over his shoulder shows 10:00 PM. 30: In the chase scene in the woods, the Police Inspector's prosthetic arm "switches" from right to left. This was an intentional joke, much like Igor's hump.
