View from the Director's Box It's results that count This week saw a high profile sacking when Chelsea parted company with manager Roberto di Matteo, who had steered them to their first ever Champions League success - the pinnacle for a club side - only six months ago. It just goes to show it is recent results and current success that matter and chairmen and fans have scant regard to past triumphs. Whether we feel it was a harsh judgement on Matteo or not, it is the football world we live in. Results have not been particularly impressive nearer to home of late, with our team failing to win back to back games since our opening two fixtures. Given the talent that we have on the park, this is most disconcerting. La Nucia failed to win any of their first six games (if including Orihuela), but since have moved into overdrive and currently head the table. This is very much what is needed by ourselves at present and there is no reason why it cannot be done. With a third of the season under our collective belts, I am hard pushed to nominate any side as noticeably better than the rest. This is reflected in the league table where a couple of losses from the top sides and a couple of wins from the lower sides and it would be all topsy turvy. It is always a bitter pill to swallow when points are seemingly squandered. I am sure that most observers would have expected us to put nine man Eldense to the sword, given the ample amount of time left of the clock to do so. The home defeat by Alzira still stings as they did not deserve the points. But, by the same token, we must stick the ball in the net if we want to win and patently we failed to do just this. Some say that over the course of a season the best team rises to the top and that may well prove to be so. There is still an absolute conviction at the Vicente Garcia that FC Torrevieja is the best in class, so now it really is time to put up or shut up. We believe we have the people in place to deliver the success we so fervently desire. We are convinced that the players are determined to win and take us to the heights we so covet. We know our fans will support us with all their might. So let's make today the start of a great run of winning results and prove that we warrant our much touted reputation as one of the sides to beat in this division. Would you settle for 3-0?

Catarroja CF Today's Visitors Catarroja CF Catarroja won the group six championship last season under the leadership of Scotsman John Clarkson. They failed to win their play off matches and John left them to take over at 2B club, Ontinyent. This season Catarroja has struggled and are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, having lost their last six matches. They lost last weekend at home to Novelda and have a mere six points on the board. They have one recorded success under their belt, that a 2-0 victory on the road at Borriol in early October. They have only managed two draws and five losses from their seven home league ties thus far. With only nine goals to their credit, leading marksman this time round with two strikes is Alberto L贸pez Nadal, who notched five last season for Mislata. Last season Torry were the first club to defeat Catarroja at the Mundial 82, when a Petu strike settled the match. Catarroja blasted Torry throughout the second half, but could not find the net. John later signed Petu in January. The scoreline was reversed in the return tie when an 94th minute header from veteran striker Madrigal secured all three points. This time round it is Torry with the former Catarroja strikers, with Ernesto and Koeman leading the line for the Salineros having enjoyed championship glory at the Mundial 82 last season.

THE TORRY ARMY Proud to Support FC Torrevieja TORRY ARMY NEWS Last Sunday the Torry Army took a coach to Elda to watch Torry play Eldense at their new impressive stadium for which the entrance price on the day was a very reasonable 10 euros for a pair. We all naturally “paired up” to take advantage of the offer. Torry twice gave away the lead and for the last 20 minutes couldnʼt find the net against an Eldense team that had been reduced to 9 men. A few moans and groans on the way home. The next away game is at La Nucia on Sunday 2 December. The Torry Army will be organizing a coach and are going to make a day of it. First stop is Benidorm for a stroll on the prom followed by a Sunday roast at Monroes carvery and then off to the game. The cost is a very reasonable 20 euros including the Sunday roast and 12 euros for the coach only. Book your place/s for the coach at the ground today on the Torry Army stand, at the Torry Army Office in San Luis or ring Pat Stewart on 966786352 / 688698894. Come along and join the Torry faithful and have a great day out. Tickets for the Torry Army Christmas Dinner on the evening of Thursday 13 December at Elviras Restaurant in San Luis are now on sale at the ground today and at the Torry Army Office in San Luis at 18.00 euros per head. The dinner will be “traditional” christmas fayre comprising 3 courses with all the trimmings at the very reasonable price of 18 euros per head. “Live music” from the 50s/60s will be provided by the very popular “Woody” so you will need to put on your dancing shoes. All are welcome to attend so buy a ticket/s now and enjoy a great night out. 10
TORRY ARMY OFFICE The Torry Army Office in San Luis is open Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 12.00. Group 6 Round Up A duck's backside It is certainly as tight as the proverbial duck's hind quarters as we approach week 15 matches. Second placed Novelda host leaders La Nucia, so it could stay mightily close all round, if these two fight out a likely draw. A mere seven points seperates Utiel in the play off places and Denia in the relegation zone. So it is fair to say, whichever sides can string a decent run of results together could easily push themselves into play off contention. Seven wins and a draw from their last eight is exactly the string of results needed, which is just what La Nucia has done to top the table, after a winless opening five stretch. They easily accounted for Crevillente last weekend with Petu notching his third of the season. We play them at the Camilo Cano next up. Novelda will attempt to be the first club to lower their colours and indeed they themselves are hard to defeat at home, but a draw looks the likeliest outcome. Castellon thumped Muro 5-1 on Sunday in front of 1400 fans despite going down to a sixth minute goal. They lie in fifth place and may well now go on a winning spree. New boys Burriana are unbeaten in six and have also pushed their way up the table, loitering on the fringes of the play off places. A win today over struggling Llosa and they may well be there. Jove is another club stuttering of late, but five wins at home from six is a good record and they will be seeking to improve upon that by defeating Eldense and in turn heading back into the top four themselves. At the other end of the table, we hope Catarroja do not find their form today and lift themselves off the botton, whilst the next two face each other in Crevillente. The home side boasts just the one victory this term (over Catarroja), whilst Borriol has notched two home wins, but precious little on the road so far. Denia can do themselves a power of good, bursting out of the relegation places with a home win over third placed Alzira. They have only tasted defeat once at home this term, though Alzira's away form, with five wins, is very impressive. 14
TERCERA DIVISIĂ“N: Grupo 6
Terry Harris has been in touch recently to let his friends know that his son Steven has been making marvellous signs of improvement. Terry's friends will know that Steven suffered a horrendous car accident two years ago and it has been a long and painful recovery process. Terry has been very grateful for all the messages and support that came his way from members of the Torry Army and wishes that they all know how much this means to him. Terry was a hugely popular character at matches and was a regular contributor to the forlorn efforts to win the Euro Millions jackpot and be able to secure the financial future of the club. He travelled often to away matches, preferring to drive there himself, but then meet up with his fellow fans. I am sure you will be delighted to learn of his son's improvement and doubtless you will want to endorse the view that this continues positively. Any Torry Army members who use the forum are still able to keep in touch with Terry by using the private message facility of this site, where Terry's moniker is Torrytel. 15

Match Report: Day 10 FC Torrevieja 0:1 Alzira A change for the worse In form Alzira came to the Vicente Garcia with five wins from their last six matches, including winning their last three on the road. Torry too were in top form, unbeaten in five and seeking the win that would fire them back into the top four. Only the appendix removed Rafa was unavailable for team selection, so a lot was riding on Casimiro Torres getting the mix and formation just right. The rains came, washing away the planned fiesta fan day of music and a giant paella, then soaked the spirits further as Torry failed to find their opponent's net, but scored a little beauty into their own to give an undeserving Alzira all three points and propel them into the top four. Torry now languish in mid table in tenth and go back to the drawing board to understand where it all has gone wrong. It was the Inarejos show in the first half, the experienced winger showing his magnificent acceration to sluice through the mud on any given chance and produce danger. He did so in the second minute, when his cross was headed goalward, but pushed wide for a corner. Then he supplied Koeman with a chance that just failed to find the target. In the ninth minute he jinked past three defenders before being flattened by a legitimate shoulder charge. Then the first of several contentious decisions by officious referee Emilio Lopez Herrero. Koeman dashed to get on the end of a delightful through ball as Vicente Flor in the Alzira goal flashed towards it from the opposite direction. Koeman got there first and headed the ball only to be poleaxed by Flor just outside the box. Torry waited for the free kick and likely dismissal, but the referee allowed play to continue. Ernesto was outraged and spoke his mind, earning a caution for his stated opinion. Koeman eventually received treatment, but limped noticeably and later had to be substituted as he was clearly struggling. 20
Luis Carlos started the second half in place of Koeman. The Salineros continued to take the fight to the visitors and very nearly broke the deadlock on 49 minutes when a super ball from Jorge found Inarejos. Gasch just failed to connect with his cross and when it rolled out to Luis Carlos, he blasted wide. Three minutes later and the drenched crowd thought that Luis had found the winner, as he sprinted through the left hand channel and lobbed the keeper as he advanced only to watch in agony as the ball trundled past the outside of the far post. Gasch next went close after a delightful Ernesto defence splitting pass. Then Gasch just failed to find Luis before Jorge headed inches wide from a corner. Torry were dominating and Alzira were defending resolutely and riding their luck in equal measures. Then with a quarter of an hour to go Casimiro made a surprising change. He brought off Javi Rosa, who was having an excellent game at left back, for the diminuitive Manu Amores. With three minutes left on the clock a smart move down the left hand side saw Alzira shoot the ball into the penalty area where Torry defenders abounded. Manu Amores got his head to the ball and attempted to nod back to Manolo, instead sending it right into the corner of the net and well out of range of the Torry keeper. Alzira could not believe their luck and neither could the Torry fans. Abel was despatched up front as the kitchen sink was commissioned, but all to no avail. Alzira made it six wins from their last seven, with four consecutive away victories and are now well and truly in the title hunt. Torry slip to tenth and wonder what to do next. Next up is a trip to Eldesne to take on former manager Soto in his first home game in charge. Nothing less than a win there will be of much help to Torry as they ponder the way back into play off contention. Team: Manolo, Vicente Boix (88 Burguillos), Jorge, Pedro Lopez, Javi Rosa (75 Manu Amores), Abel, Dani, Inarejos, Ernesto, Koeman (46 Luis Carlos), Gasch 21
