Keller ISD Professional Development Framework The mission of the Professional Development Department is to enhance the current and future organizational effectiveness of KISD by increasing employees’ ability to maximize performance. We are dedicated to preparing competent and qualified professional educators (teachers, administrators, and school service personnel). All professional development must align with the district’s mission, vision and values and the district improvement plan. Campus offerings must also align with the district and campus improvement plan.

KISD Professional Development Framework This framework outlines the elements necessary to support employees in receiving the professional development they need to do their jobs well and positively impact students.

Key Elements of Professional Development Framework:  Orientation/Induction for New Employees: Professional development [PD] begins with the on-boarding process. This experience equips each employee to identify how they contribute to the mission and vision of the district. The overview of the values of KISD during these sessions prepares each employee to reflect these attributes as part of their daily work and contribution to the KISD culture. The process will educate them regarding the strategic plan, continuous improvement and each of the district goals. Each employee will be asked for feedback on the process as a means for our continually improving the way that we support them in making the transition as a new employee in the district.  Annual Compliance Updates: KISD will provide a systematic process for training all employees on relevant state and federal laws and requirements.  Expectations for Participation in Professional Development: All functions and campuses should model and cultivate life-long learning. Professional staff are expected to participate in at least 30 hours of professional development per year based on the state requirement for certification renewal. The state requires teachers to have 150 hours documented every five years for certificate renewal and principals, counselors and diagnosticians are required to document 200 hours every five years. Paraprofessionals, exempt staff, and non-exempt staff are expected to have access to at least six hours of professional development per year.  Planning for Professional Development: District and campus PD Plans will follow a systematic process for implementations and deployment. Professional employees are encouraged to develop a personal PD plan with their supervisor with annual and long-term goals. Deliverers of professional development should complete an annual and long-term/continuous plan for organizing and delivering professional development, based on stakeholder discussions, needs assessments and alignment with district and campus goals. KISD’s on-going formative evaluation system will gauge how well the plan is reaching and serving all stakeholders. This data will serve as the basis for continually improving our processes.  Participation in Professional Collaboration: Professional staff are expected to participate and take leadership in their personal continuous improvement. Staff should be encouraged to collectively review data for program improvement purposes.  Access to Professional Development Activities: KISD ensures that every employee (new and experienced) has access to high-quality professional development.  Quality of Professional Development: KISD will ensure that all PD offerings comply with the KISD Professional Development Standards.

Required Professional Development Please note that the information below is subject to change based on the current federal/state laws and Keller ISD regulations. Please contact your supervisor and the office or professional development if you need further clarification or guidance.
