• In 2013, 23 percent of graduating seniors had studied abroad during their college experience. • There are a wide range of programs to meet your specific needs that vary in duration, course offerings, structure and location. • Many programs allow Marquette scholarships to travel with you, making the experience financially feasible. • The residency requirement for majors includes study abroad credits and counts toward your 30-credit residency requirement. • Eighty-seven percent of the Class of 2017 is interested in pursuing an international experience during college.

Determine one or two steps that you need to accomplish, and continue to document milestones that lead you closer to this goal throughout your experience. Note: Your study abroad experience may lead you down a path toward a goal, but you may continue to accomplish milestones once you return.

BEFORE YOU GO DO YOU KNOW ­– How to travel from the airport?

Before you depart for your time abroad, make sure you have fully prepared so you can make the most of your time in country. This means reflecting on your own cultural perspective and how this shapes your perception of the host culture. It also includes learning about the host country by researching its history, politics, societal structure, religion and more.

Now that you have arrived in your country and are learning about your host culture and city, make sure you are taking advantage of each day’s opportunities. Role of socioeconomic status

Review the goals you set before departure, and add your own bucket list items. Plan how you can complete each item on your bucket list.

Go to a local theatre or performance. Educational system

Attend a religious or faith service. Learn to cook a local recipe, and learn its origin. Celebrate a local holiday, and participate in the local customs and traditions.
