Overall Message: The original task was to tackle Teen Pregnancy. Through research, our team discovered that high STD rates are a current issue among teens. Our thinking was to speak to the effects of unprotected sex through the lack of a condom. Wearing a condom is one of the most effective ways to prevent pregnancy and STDs. Showing how not using a condom is a lot better than contracting an STD through the shock value of the loud descriptive words with a visual illustration of the STD’s. The aesthetic fits our age demographic of 15-17, with bright colors, clean typography and an interesting visual.

Print Advertisement: Print ads are a sure way to get our message to our demographic. Bus shelter ads are seen by commuters, and by the students traveling the city either by walking, or by waiting for a bus. The ads would be placed in shelters near MPS schools, and places of interest such as indoor mall posters. The take away is to visit our Microsite at the url: www.betterthanacondom.com.

Micro-site: The Micro-site is a crucial element in educating our target about safe sex and the dangers of STDs. All of our print and social elements have the URL to the site somewhere (www. betterthanacondom.com). Currently not enough people are educated on STDs. We believe this comes from a lack in communication between young adults and educators or their parents. The website will feature a Quick Facts page, profile pages about each of the STDs, a get tested page about clinic locations with a symptom checker, and finally a questions page to display anonymous questions and the answers as they are submitted. The last page, the question and answer page will be a compilation of all the questions submitted to the website. These will be answered and then shared out through our social media channels. Twitter will especially be a good proponent to this part of the website.
Twitter: As an extension of the website, we decided to put together a twitter AMA page. This AMA (or ask me anything) style page would be an format where we would answer people’s anonymous questions. The benefit of having a Twitter page is that it is an easy and efficient way to reach our target market, and a great platform to share our latest content. Questions, facts, pictures, all of these would be shared via Twitter.
Guerilla: Stickers and Instagram
One part of our Guerilla marketing was to involve stickers with the illustrated STD’s Having these stickers appear overnight all over the city and at popular tagging sites will catch the eyes of teens who are looking to place their own stickers, or by seeing them at popular hangout locations such as malls, their school, and bus stop areas. There is a call to action on the stickers to take a photo of the sticker and share it on their Instagram. After a certain amount of time when the images have circulated to show how fast STD’s can spread by not using a Condom.

PRESENTS
As part of our Guerilla marketing, we decided to put on a concert. A concert will draw a ton of people from our target, and if executed properly, it will be a great way to educate concert-goers on the harmful effects of STDS and ways to prevent them. The concert will be hosted by a local and popular radio show (Kiss f.m.) and will feature several artists popular with our demographic. During the show we would have the bands talk about STD’s and condoms. We don’t want it to become an educational pep-rally kind of concert, but rather a discussion on safe sex habits. At the concert venue we will have a booth next to the merchandise station, and by the exits, staffed by young volunteers. They will hand out educational pamphlets and free condoms and answer any questions the teens might have. Guerilla: Facebook Promotion In order to promote the show, we have put together an open Facebook event invitation “Kiss the School Year Goodbye” sponsored by Kiss F.M. This is where people going to the show will learn about the bands playing and the date and time of the event. Because the show is free for anyone with a high school ID, we will encourage students to invite their friends. Anyone that RSVP’s to the shows event page will be unknowingly involved in our third guerilla element, the fake article.

Guerilla: Fake Facebook Article Articles spread faster than lightning on Facebook, so we decided to create a spam article. The spam article titled “12 ways to have safe sex without a condom” will be shared by an anonymous person in the group, and posted on Facebook by other volunteers as well. If you click on the article, you will be taken to a fake website. After about 45 seconds in the page, it will start to fade to black, and one of our STD characters will slide into view, with a message about safe sex, and a URL to our micro-site. Our goal is to have the article shared organically on Facebook and as a way to drive people to the website to learn more about the protecting one’s self from STDs.
