WHAT TO EXPECT

My Lifestyle Newborn Sessions are what I call “baby lead”. This means it’s nearly impossible to know what kind of a mood your baby will be in on the day of the session, so we will go with the flow! I offer relaxed newborn photography sessions that typically last around 1-2 hours, giving us the flexibility to take breaks as needed throughout. My goal is to give you and your newborn the most relaxing, enjoyable photography experience possible.

PREPARING YOUR HOME

Preparing your home for a lifestyle newborn photo session is essential to ensure a comfortable and beautiful environment for your baby and family. Here are tips to help you get ready:

Declutter and Clean: I am not asking you to clean your home from top to bottom. A simple declutter of the space where you plan to have the photos taken, such as the nursery, living room, or bedroom. A clean environment will result in more appealing and professional looking photos Natural Light: Choose a location in your home that has good natural light. Open curtains and blinds to let in as much sunlight as possible.Soft, diffused natural light is ideal for newborn photography, as it helps create a gentle and flattering atmosphere. Temperature Control: Keep the room at a comfortable temperature for your baby. Newborns are sensitive to temperature changes, so make sure the room is neither too hot nor too cold. Use space heaters or fans if necessary to maintain a consistent and comfortable environment. Neutral Backgrounds: Use soft, neutral colors for bedding, blankets, and other props. Pastel colors, whites, and grays work well as they won't distract from your baby. Avoid busy patterns and bright, contrasting colors that can take attention away from the subject.

PREPARING YOUR NEWBORN

Preparing your baby for a lifestyle newborn session can help ensure a successful and enjoyable experience for both you and your little one. Here are tips to help you get ready:

Feed and Burp Baby: Make sure your baby is well-fed and burped before the session. A full and content baby is more likely to be calm and less fussy during the shoot. Plan to feed your baby just before the photographer arrives. Keep the Baby Comfortable: Ensure the room where the session will take place is comfortably warm to keep your baby cozy and content. Newborns can't regulate their body temperature well, so a warm environment helps keep them comfortable. Have some extra blankets on hand for swaddling if needed. Be Patient and Flexible: Newborns can be unpredictable, so it's essential to remain patient and flexible during the session. The photographer may need to take breaks for feeding or comforting your baby. Be prepared for a longer session if necessary, and trust the photographer's expertise in working with infants.

WHAT TO WEAR

A lifestyle newborn session is all about capturing the natural moments and emotions of your family with the new addition. Here are tips on what to wear for your lifestyle newborn session to ensure that you look and feel your best:

Choose Soft and Coordinated Colors: Opt for soft, muted colors like pastels or earth tones. These colors create a calm and cohesive look in your photos and won't distract from the baby. Coordinating your family's outfits can help create a harmonious visual appeal. Consider colors like soft blues, pale pinks, light grays, or soft yellows. Keep It Timeless: Avoid trendy or busy patterns and logos, as they can quickly date your photos. Instead, opt for classic, timeless outfits that won't go out of style. Neutral colors and simple patterns work well. Crisp, solid-colored shirts or dresses are often a good choice. Dress Comfortably: Newborn sessions can take time, and it's important to be comfortable. Choose clothing that allows you to move freely and sit comfortably on the floor or the bed. Stretchy fabrics can be a good choice, as they offer both style and comfort. Remember, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. Your baby will be the star of the show, and your clothing should complement the overall mood of the session while allowing you to enjoy the moment with your family.

BOOKING YOUR SESSION

Preparing for a lifestyle newborn session can help ensure that the experience is enjoyable and that you capture beautiful moments with your new baby. Here's a guide to give your clients to help them prepare for their lifestyle newborn session:

BOOKING A SESSION

Since your baby’s arrival will likely be unpredictable, I recommend getting your newborn session in the books 6-8 weeks prior to your due date. If your new bundle comes a little early or later than planned, I will do everything I can to rearrange my schedule to make sure we capture those precious moments! Once you have put down a deposit & signed your photography agreement, your due date goes onto my calendar! Let me know when you are home from the hospital so we can choose a date for your session. I like to book my newborn sessions 1-3 weeks after the baby is born, but flexible. Online galleries are usually ready for viewing within 3-4 weeks after your session takes place. You will receive a passcode to your gallery where you can download your images. My lifestyle newborn sessions come with a soft cover photo book of 30 of your favorite images.
