With the fourth edition of the DCA Insider, I would like to thank Kelly Stillman, Director of Communications, and Graphic Designer Sandy Wachowski for their continued leadership and management of the content and creative process. I’ve received numerous compliments from our team mentioning the quality and timeliness of each edition. Furthermore, I appreciate the continued input of our leaders who contribute to the quality of the content and relevance of each edition.

If you have had the chance to attend one of our regional Town Halls you have seen that I open each meeting with a recitation of the Mission, Vision and Values of the company. This is a continuing eff ort to reinforce the principles of DCA and what we are trying to accomplish together, as an organization. Our Values focus on the conduct of the company and are a direct refl ection of our eff orts to the patients, families and communities we serve. Supporting our mission to advance the practice of dentistry, we are making a further investment, and I am very pleased to announce that we are establishing a new foundation. The USMILE Foundation will allow all DCA practices and support center staff to demonstrate meaningful support derived from our Mission, Vision and Values by providing dental services for underserved populations, enabling dental education for fi nancially challenged students, and providing direct support for a variety of needs and to communities in need. I am very excited to make this announcement and welcome the support of our team members. We will communicate more details about the USMILE Foundation over the next several months. Please look for information on the respective activities and the work of the foundation, and ways that you can get involved. I am also pleased to announce that we continue to expand our footprint and the number of new communities we are serving—including Arizona and Colorado.

Dental Care Alliance is committed to advancing the practice of dentistry and continuously looks for ways to innovate and improve our technology. For the last year, we have been working on an exciting new smartphone app that will provide a seamless connection and user experience for our dentists across the DCA family. Designed to support intracompany communication, provide access to critical clinical and practice level data, and a platform for teledentistry and increased collaboration for our dental teams, the application will be the fi rst of its kind in the DSO industry. The DR App is a signifi cant investment in our ability to support communication and support our practices, and we plan to release it to our doctors in early 2020.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that DCA’s clinical team has established a series of new protocols and communications focused on the responsible use of opiates in dentistry. The misuse, abuse and accompanying issues with opiates have generated an unprecedented public health crisis in our nation. Currently, opiate overdoses kill more Americans than automobile accidents. Opiate addiction and associated health problems have devastated entire communities and contributed to an unprecedented reduction in life expectancy. Dentistry has role to play in supporting patient education and awareness of the risks of opiates and the potential for abuse. In this eff ort, we are pleased to support our providers and lead the way with this initiative.

In closing, we have had a landmark year in 2019, passing many important milestones. Thank you for living the DCA values and all that you do to help DCA achieve success and grow stronger together.
