HOLY WEEK IN SPAIN MARCH 24 - APRIL 1ST, 2013: A FESTIVAL, NOT TO BE MISSED The extravagant elegance of the processions in Andalusia have made Spain's Semana Santa celebrations famous throughout the world. Each city has a different style to its celebrations. For example, in Cordoba Semana Santa is especially serious while in Jaen there is a strong folk influence. If you like major pageantry and rich, bejeweled Virgins, Malaga or Seville are the cities to head for. Some of the well known parades and processions are in Malaga. Most of these parades will involve volunteers wearing penitential robe and carrying either candles or wooden cross. Semana Santa is the week leading up to Easter Sunday (March 24 to March 31, 2013 - Easter Monday April 1st).

VIRGIN DEL CARMEN JULY 16TH
The Virgin del Carmen festivities take place with a procession over land and out into the sea. The image made of wood and porcelain spends most of the year at the local church. On the evening of July 16, in the fishing villages and towns up and down the Coast the Virgin del Carmen is not only paraded through the streets but also taken for a spin round the bay on a flower-adorned boat, accompanied by a flotilla of fishing boats. Brass bands play, crowds cheer, rockets shoot off and fireworks fill the late dusk sky.

Yanela Brooks at the Kempinski Hotel Bahia 2012 was Yanela's year! A talented singer, pianist and composer, Yanela is originally from Cuba, studied piano at the „Conservatorio de Musica“ in Havana, and since 2005, lives and performs in Marbella. Known as the Diva of Disco and Soul, she performed in 2012 regularly at the Kempinski Bahia to the great pleasure of our hotel guests and local residents, and will continue throughout 2013.
Yanela was also a candidate in Spanish TV Tele Cinco "La Voz", the Spanish version of "The Voice". She was chosen by David Bisbal, the international Spanish star, to be part of his team. Bisbal described her: "Es un caballo ganador" - as she is the winning horse! Yanela made it to the semi final round and was invited by David Bisbal to record with him in the coming spring. Yanela was also the star of the New Year's Eve Gala at the Kempinski Bahía.

It was an exceptional festive atmosphere for kids and parents!

ONE TAPA = ONE TREE BENÉFICO A BENEFICIAL DINNER BY TAPEARTE After suffering the most devastating fires since 20 years on the Spanish Costa del Sol, a group of culinary entrepreneurs created the idea of hosting a charity dinner in favor of the planned reforestation of the Marbella areas. 23 of the best Chefs from the south of AndalucĂa, among them some 1 and 2 Michelin Chefs, and Fernando Rueda, renowned Malaga Food Critic and their mentor, form the friendly culinary circle of to move the traditional art of preparing
Andalucian tapas into new culinary dimensions. TapeArte had the green idea to offer their culinary experience for free in order to help the fast reforestation process over the next years of this important economic touristic zone by organizing the culinary and entertaining Benefiz dinner. The 23 Chefs and Fernando Rueda have been supported by many food and beverage suppliers, who sponsored the event with the needed materials, also free of charge. Remedios del Rio, the president and founder of the charitable Fundaspandem Organization, has offered herself to give full support to this beneficiary event and to oversee the correct handling of donations.

THERESIA HEBENSTREIT Theresia Hebenstreit is born 1950 in Wiesbaden, Germany. She studied Ceramic design at the Advanced College there and Art Anthropology as well as Art History at the University of Mainz. After being Chairman of Crafts in Hessen (Germany), she was the National Delegate of the World Crafts Council until 1999. Hebenstreit: "I have been working on sculptures of medieval Madonna's for many years. Alfred Erhardt, who photographed a collection of medieval and Gothic statues, which were published in an illustrated book in 1942, has been my inspiration throughout the years. JÜRGEN SCHMIEDEKAMPF Jürgen Schmiedekampf is born 1951 in Bremen, Germany. He attended the College for Design and got 1977 a Scholarship @ Cite Internationele des Arts in Paris. Schmiedekampf: "I paint, therefore I am." Eugene Delacroix wrote "the painting is a feast to the eye", two hundred years ago at the end of his life in his diary. With this he inspired painters such as Courbet and Manet, the Impressionists and Expressionists, indeed he opened the door for Contemporary Art. The painting is a feast for the eyes - that's Schmiedekampf's motto.

STEFAN SZCZESNY Stefan Szczesny is born 1951 in Munich, Germany. He studied there at the Academy of Fine Arts and got a Scholarship from the German Adademic Exchange Service in Paris, 1975. In 1999 his biggest challenge was the Kempinski Art Project, creating ceramic pictures, works on canvas, graphics, ceramic vases and art works in the form of glass etchings and paintings on terracotta containers, which all are still to see at the Kempinski Hotel Bahia.
