‘Cult & Classic’ – A Programme of Feature Films

Sat 11 - Tues 14 November

Film is a powerful medium not only for mountain drama and adventure. Historically, it has questioned man’s relationship with high places, and increasingly today explores the human conflicts taking place in some of the most dangerous and yet most spiritual landscapes in the world. This year KMFF presents a programme of feature films, which includes a mix of historical films, in which mountains are the setting for romance, adventure and drama, and new entries in this year’s competition, where mountain zones are the setting for civil war, cultural turmoil and lawlessness. We include with each feature a classic short, from Popeye in the Alps to Monty Python on the Uxbridge Road.

The films:

Die Weisse Hölle vom Piz Palü (Arnold Fanck – 1929)

The White Tower (Ted Tetzlaff – 1950)

The Eiger Sanction (Clint Eastwood – 1975)

Five Days One Summer (Fred Zinneman – 1982)

Himalaya (Eric Valli – 1999)

A Time for Drunken Horses (Ghobadi – 1999)
