LETTER FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR,

Gerry Howze Greetings PEARLS friend,

It is with great pride that I share with you the results of our 2016 efforts to build strong girls and community—and we couldn’t have done it without you. Together, through PEARLS weekly groups and College & Career Readiness activities we served over 1,800 girls! That doesn’t even take into consideration all of the alum who have stayed engaged with PEARLS, taking their schooling and career success to the next level. There will be many more outcomes of which we proudly share throughout this report, but numbers show just a snapshot of the growth seen in PEARLS girls. Woven throughout, please take a moment to read from the girls themselves how they have started to see transformations on the continuous path they are taking to become their best selves. Our excitement is increasing as we experience the momentum of success as we continue to put our focus on being a girl- and data-driven organization committed to excellence. As we strive to make sure every PEARLS girl has the opportunity to see her potential and build her self-efficacy, in 2016 our staff engaged in intensive strategic initiatives to evaluate our core program activities. We assessed the impact of each activity towards achieving our mission to support girls’ positive self-development. We considered several factors in the evaluation, including: our ability to deliver programming with excellence; girls’ levels of participation in each activity; and the financial sustainability of each programming element. This assessment will continue to provide insights for staff and our board in identifying and supporting the programming elements that allow us to meet girls’ needs, maintain program quality, steward our donors’ investments wisely, and support our long-term sustainability as an organization. To our generous donors, caring volunteers, dedicated board, staff and most importantly, our girls, thank you for being part of the PEARLS family and supporting girls’ success in living out the PEARLS values of: Personal Responsibility, Empathy, Awareness, Respect, Leadership and Support. Together, we WILL continue to empower girls throughout their pursuit of achieving their goals and dreams. Please enjoy the results of our work together. Yours in Service,

Gerry Howze PEARLS for Teen Girls Executive Director 1

Mission

PEARLS for Teen Girls is improving quality of life and strengthening our community one girl at a time by empowering young women with self-development tools, guidance and support to strive for better, brighter futures by living out with the PEARLS values: Personal Responsibility, Empathy, Awareness, Respect, Leadership and Support.

Vision

PEARLS is rapidly becoming known among girls, funders and public and private entities in our community as “the program” for girls’ self-development. Our programs provide girls with a safe place, skill development and self-esteem building that lead to better life choices and an opportunity to realize their full potential.

Promise

We are PEARLS girls and we want to be our best selves. All of the girls in this circle are my PEARLS sisters. We are learning how each one of us is precious and unique. PEARLS helps us believe in ourselves by building:

is for Personal Responsibility. I can make a difference.

is for Empathy. I will strive to understand how it feels to walk in your shoes.

is for Awareness. I want to know more about myself and the world around me.

is for Respect. I will value you and your opinions, even if we disagree.

is for Leadership. I want to put my beliefs into action and make this world a better place.

is for Support. I want to help and encourage.

We promise to help each other practice these traits. We want to become role models and powerful women who achieve our goals and dreams. Thank you all for our precious time together today!
