/ from antibiosis to symbiosis in Coastal Architecture

This design thesis presents the -0.50 coastal protection design process that not only allow the coexistence between mangrove and shrimp farm but also inhibit erosion and recuperate the community network through the participation process and “ replacement method by replace mangrove into shrimp farm. The architectural process is divided into 4phases.The architecture of this coastal protection would gradually change according to the condition of topography and the growth of new mangroves at each stage. As a result, the architectural process of this coastal protection would bring back the mangroves to the coast and provide public spaces that will uplift the relationship between the locals and the mangrove, bringing back the mangrove to the local’s everyday life and help protect the coast in a sustainable manner.

Focusing on Khunsamutchin community,Samutprakarn province. The local community has to move their houses and school several times to escape the rising water. What if the coastal protection not only alleviate coastal erosion but also help boosting the community’s engagement? Is there any possibilities to create a cooperation between the locals and institution that responsible for coastal erosion problem? What if, the process of creating coastal protection could help rehabilitate the symbiotic relation between mangroves and aquaculture and develop into learning space to raise awareness and knowledge of sustainable coastal protection measures?

02 how 's motorcycle taxi network working between main road and branch on Asoke junction ?

/\/\/\/\/\/

/ iBest workshop 2013

A ubiquitious, yet "Improper" infrastucture has developed around Bangkok's most intimate transportation network : motorcycle taxi. It's a system of endlessly negotiated transactions, including rates between rider and driver, queing order among a stable's coorperating- competing drivers, traffic laws between cyclists , motorists, pedestrians and police It's micro-architectural interveedntions embody the same complicated

symbiosises. Driver park,

Their constructions share space ,electricity, senitation and struction with other private , public works , as well as other informal economic actors.

Asian regional cities since 19th century have been witnessing political-social impacts, and turn themselves into global cities through (post)colonial and capitalist culture. Continuity of urban growth in this region manifests itself trans-environmental reconciliation between local and global tensions. Dialectic of urbanization — local/global, existing/future, mobility / pause, living / functionality, pleasure/systems—will be provoking critical thoughts in the course and inquiries to promote future regeneration of urban architecture and life. The class is an international collaboration

workshop and

between Kasetsart Architecture and

Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, University of Houston, Texas. This course aims to explore environmental and architectural issues and history of the urban development as well as develop design strategies and proposal to foster novel urban architecture or environmental typologies collaborating with local existing contexts. On the topic of Urban Encounter and Architecture is critically to rethink for future environmental visions, redesign urban architecture, and (re)serve the public interests.

Bangkok is a basin.

“ Bangkok sits on the Chaophraya River Delta which is a part of the Grand Central Basin of Thailand. Bangkok, has grew dramatically during the past one hundred years without any critical concern on the balance between its growth and the way it was developed. According to this Socio-Ecnomic and TopoGeography conditions, the city itself has to deal with the uncontrollable number of space uses that has been filled into the city in order to serve for its fast growing number of population and its economics. In contrast, the vast decrease in number of civic space that could has been reserved for public purpose.

Configuration infrastructure Bangkok is a city that built on its basin topography. During the late 19th century there was the Royal initation on laying many large infrastructure systems serving for future developement of Bangkok. At the time, Bangkok still held its proportion of green space, of water accumulatetion space and of water distribution channel in sufficient relation to its population and also its hardscape city space. Nowadays, the configuration of Bangkok which has been

shaped by the man-made topography and on top mega infrastructure aiming for accommodating the global city, which has not been developed the proportion of water accumulation and of water distribution at the same time.

To create a relationship of the old shophouse that located behind a large shopping mall in Sukhumvit area. The project like this will directly impact to the surrounding area , that are cut off from the main road and open area which will occur in the development area of the mega new projects in Bangkok. Moreover, the role of public space is critical too. The shopping mall are lack of context. This section, which affecting the arrangement stores within the mall and connected to urban context. The two main areas of mention is the old shophouse and mega mall can coexist in the context of present.
