Context The context of the area around this project is a relatively dense area surrounded by residential, commercial, public service building. The atmosphere in this area is quite busy, hot and arid. The building surrounding the site is four to five storey building on average, make the site relatively high congested. Creating a building with natural light and natural circulation as the main requirement in a congested area make this project quite challenging.
PRECEDENT
DESIGN CONCEPT MAIN CONCEPT DUAL SECTION The main concept is the combination of the futuristic design and tropical style. The futuristic design is to attract the tourist attention with its unique shape. On the other side, the tropical style is to create a cozy atmosphere within the building. The use of dual section is to produce more interaction space on the first side and make a comfortable space on the other side. In another word, this concept is increasing the user scope of this building.
Naman Spa, Da Nang, Vietnam This spa was designed by MIA Design Studio. The repetitive facade and vegetation in the building surface inspire me to build the other one.
Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, USA The complexity, curvy and dancy facade inspired me to create the similar one in the main facade. This building was designed by Frank Gehry.
National Heart Centre, Singapore This building inspired me to create a perforated second skin.
SUPPORTING CONCEPT GREEN BUILDING The green design is a mandatory now in order to respond to the climate change and ineffective energy used. By designing the building with the green concept, the building will be more efficient in energy use and contribute to keeping the environment safe in microscale. To implement this concept to the building, there are natural light and natural cooling as the characteristic of the building. In addition, there are abundant amount of plant on the surface of the building to keep the building cool and more natural shades inside the building.
SOCIAL INTERACTION Social Interaction is losing as time goes by. It must be revived by us, the architect. There is a quote, “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us. said by Winston Churchill. It is a true phenomenon in this world we live. To improve the social interaction, the first step is to make the space for the user and then make it simple and flexible to use. In this context, the space created in the north/ the front building are intentionally made empty. From that empty space, the user of the building or even the public is free to use for what do they want and then the interaction will start to grow.
DESIGN CRITERIA
REPETITIVE FACADE For the tropical section, the facade material is made repetitive to decreased the complexness of its facade. It is relatively simple compared to the other facade. This criterion is to meet the concept of a tropical facade.
LOT OF BUILDING OPENING A lot of building opening is to make the building breathe and receive more light inside the building. This criterion is to support the concept of natural light and natural cooling system.
VEGETATION AS SUNSHADING The use of vegetation as sun-shading is to create a natural atmosphere inside the building more. This criterion is to fulfil the concept of tropical facade and green building.
MORE SOCIAL SPACE To create more social interaction, we need the space to facilitate the action. This criterion is one of the essential to solving the concept of social interaction.
PERFORATED SKIN AND ICONIC FACADE The use of perforated skin is to control the light emitted into the building not excessive. In the other word, the perforated skin works the same as sun-shading. In this context, this feature are only to support the iconic facade to fulfill the concept of futuristic design
MASSING
Massing Process
1. The site are prepared to be built
2. Add the first mass to the site.
3. Cut the mass to create more open spaces and surface to receive more light
4. Add the area in the front to create more social spaces.
5. Extrude the prepared area to make more social spaces.
6. Add the second skin to create some sun shading and the building images

MGG RPTRA MGG RPTRA is an acronym of Merry-Go-Green Ruang Publik Terbuka Ramah Anak. To be simply, MGG is the name of the main concept and RPTRA is children public space. In this project, we are not only designing the building, but also design the landscape and environment that surround it. This project is located in North Jakarta that is dense and slum area. The main issue of this project is the lack of social interaction and the needs of public space.

Issue The main issue on this project is to create space that can unite the resident and create an intense interaction between them. The second issue is the needs of children playing space for the low-income family that occupied the apartment. And the last one is the need of green space of Jakarta that always got flooded by rainwater.
Context The context of the area of this project is to create a public space for low-income resident around the site. This area is quite dense by the resident but not by car. In addition, creating public spaces must include some criteria that support public and kids to do some activities on the public spaces. The criteria needed is green vegetation, safety, security, amenitites, and sociopetals design. On the other hand, we must accommodate some street vendor to improve the economic activites there.

04. Andrawina Kambang Floating House
National Competition Entry Top 15 Kaniungan Island, East Kalimantan, Indonesia
TEAM: ARDELIA J.C. & MARCELLA G.K.
Andrawina Kambang Kebersamaan yang tak tergantikan Andrawina Kambang is a special floated traditional house from East Borneo that will be built in the seashore of Kaniungan Besar Island. The seashore we chose is located nearest to the Borneo Island is intended to make the access easier for the Borneo Island. The traditional house of East Borneo is designed to create the value of togetherness. To conserve this tradition, the value of togetherness is the main focus on designing this building.
.
CONCEPT ANDRAWINA KAMBANG
Besides being a name of the building, Andrawina Kambang is the name of the main concept. Andrawina Kambang barely means floating social space in Indonesian dialect. From this word, we compose the strategy to make the area to be a social space for all. The supporting concept that written below is the strategy to make it real.
BEHAVIOUR MODIFIER (BROADBENT’S BUILDING TASK THEORY) The application of this theory is the creation of space that facilitates social interaction. The resident here could have plenty of social interaction with their neighbourhood because of the creation of social space. This space can be used to relaxing our mind, spending a lot of time together and maybe their tribe ritual.
NATURAL SANITATION SYSTEM Natural sanitation system is the main problem when we want to build the floating house. In this case, this building uses the concept same as the Cambodian floating village such as Handypod designed by Wetland Works. The grey and black water will be filtered and neutralize in the plant pot that contains wet plant (Hyacinth).
UTILIZE SEA WATER FOR DRINKING WATER Living in the remote and small island is not easy to find drinkable water. To solve this problem, there is a desalinator system that extracts the unused mineral from sea water. After through the system, the water is saved into the water storage and ready to be drank.
HYDROCURRENT KINETIC POWERPLANT There is no electric power plant on the remote island. To generate power that powered the building, this building uses the underwater current to power the building.
