Indian Food Spices and Flavors Indian spices have a long history in our country. They have been around probably since mankind even knew how to cook. They were and still are an integral part of the Indian cooking system. Without spices, nothing is going to help you make the dish tasty and tangy and delicious at the same time. Spices are added not only for the great taste and value that they bring to the dish, they also bring so many medicinal properties with them. Turmeric being the best example of all, that is known for its magical healing properties. Cinnamon, which is widely used in masalas to make Indian curries help to keep the heart health in check. Black pepper is very good to purify your blood. Cumin seeds and ajwain aid massively in the digestion process. You will find the presence of these spices in every Indian dish that you cook. For example, tomato soup is tangy in taste, but it also has a little spicy element to it. Wonder where it comes from? Well, majorly from the freshly crushed black pepper that’s added to it. Tomato brings in all the tanginess. There is sometimes a pinch of chili added to it too instead of pepper, but it cannot compete with the taste that black pepper brings to the dish. Just to add a little information, the British did come looking for spices in India. Spices that made the dish smell and taste so delicious. It is safe to say, that India, before the British rule was a wealthy country. It was self-fed and self sufficient and never required to depend on any outside forces. The British came in looking for the magic ingredient that made the food taste amazing. Even today, India is number one in the production and business of spices. Indian spices are an integral part of the Indian culture and heritage. You will never find a better recipe of meat masala than in India. Although different states have their own recipes and ways of making it, each of this recipe tastes as good as the other. There is no way to comment which is better than the other. You’ll find the Awadhi way of making the meat masala and you will also see the difference in the way people from Kerala make it. This may taste way different from what it tastes like in a city like Kolkata, or Lucknow. All you can do is enjoy the taste and aroma that it is bringing with it and let it feed your soul. The taste of each of these dishes will be such that it will just make you want to close your eyes and let it engulf you into itself. If you are someone who is very new to this then you do not have to worry so much about getting the masala right. You can always pick up a ready to make masala from a grocery story and it will taste the same. There are many brands that provide you with masala. Do a little review research and you will get the masala you would require.
