Italian Ingredients That Can Enhance Your Regular Dishes No matter what dish you cook, one of the most important things that are going to transform your dish is probably going to be the spices, seasonings, or masalas that you add to it. Take the spices and seasonings out of your favorite yummy dish and you won’t recognize it. That’s how much of a difference they make. While, we in India, have a myriad of fragrant and flavorful spices like garam masala, we’ve pretty much grown up eating them and trying out most of them in some form or the other. And sometimes, when we whip up our favorite or signature dishes using the same spices over and over again, the dishes can get pretty monotonous. What do you do then? We’re here to help you out with exactly by giving you some interesting suggestions that’ll help transform your food. Italian herbs and seasonings are just as flavorful as our Indian ones. Don’t worry, we aren’t going to make suggestions where your food will end up tasting like pizza or pasta. To start off with, you can buy all of these herbs, seasonings, and spices online. Let’s start with the OG - oregano. A member of the mint family, this aromatic herb is dried and used to season foods. It has a spicy, sweet, and earthy flavor with a lovely aroma. While cooking Indian dishes, you can definitely sprinkle some oregano spice mix once your dish is done cooking. Sprinkle and mix it in tandoori dishes, pulavs, and rolls for a lovely aroma and interesting flavor. You can also sprinkle this seasoning onto sandwiches like you would chaat masala. Next up, we have yet another herb from the mint family - basil. This fragrant herb is the main ingredient in pesto and tastes great when added to Indian curries. You can also use fresh basil leaves to take your stir-fries to the next level. Use it as you would use curry leaves, at the beginning while tempering your ingredients or you can chop it up and use it as a garnish in the end. It has an interesting flavor that tastes spicy, sweet, and minty at the same time. Next, we have rosemary. Rosemary is a herb that tastes woody and peppery. The best way to use it is to add it to fried, tandoori, grilled, or roasted meats and veggies. It can also be added to any stew or soups. What’s great about rosemary is that apart from having a great flavor profile it is also plenty nutritious. Another popular ingredient used in Italian cooking is thyme. You can expect this herb to add a herbal flavor with woody, floral, and grass notes to your dishes. You can use it fresh or you can sprinkle the dried version as a seasoning on your dishes. Just remember, the fresh version has a more pungent flavor. Just how if you try searching online Indian spices are easy to find, so are the Italian spices. Just make sure you buy them from reputable brands so that you get an authentic experience when using them.
