Key Club International Convention 2011 AKA “I-Con

Define I-CON in one sentence: An opportunity for all of Key Club International to convene, meet and be inspired - by themselves and otherwise. What makes I-CON so cool? This is the chance for you to meet people from so many other districts. When you're confined to your own division or district, things could get boring. Yet when you're with so many other Key Clubbers who have the same passion, you are inspired to grow your own clubs as well as think about other possibilities and perspectives. On another note, it was at a really nice hotel and the activities made it easy to meet people (like the dances or the meet & greet). It's really fun to hear all the other cheers like Cali-Nev-Ha's. The best part about your experience? Meeting everyone and bonding with other PNW'ers :) What's the best thing you've learnt at I-CON? To constantly be proactive and to remember that Key Club is foremost a service club. Why do you like being a Key Clubber now? Because I realize how much you can do to help the world. Also, attending ICON separates Key Club from other serve clubs for me. Key Clubbers are so crazy wonderful that you can't help but have the best time with them (: If someone asked you why they should attend I-CON what would you say? I'd say that they should attend because ICON is such an amazing opportunity. Rarely are you able to surround yourself with so many other passionate teenagers. You get to meet some incredibly inspiring people as well as attend workshops that only help you maximize your club's growth. It's also so much fun - you get to be with over a thousand other teenagers in a hotel! And since next year's is in Orlando, you KNOW it's gonna be fun!

QUESTION OF THE MONTH: Why Should I join Key Club? Situation: You gave a classmate a Key Club meeting flyer and in response they asked, “Why should I join Key Club?” What would you tell them? “I can't tell you why you should join Key Club, but I can tell you what I have gained and hopefully that will inspire you enough to do the same. On the surface, it seems like a club where we eat snacks, play icebreakers, and waste time. But there comes a point in time where the service no longer defines the organization but defines the members themselves. It has taught me what it means to live a "life worth living", whereby respect, hope, humility, and a genuine desire to help alleviate the ravages of the world... molds us to be individuals of integrity - essentially, members defined by our service.”

-Ikwo Morris (Immediate Past Key Club International Vice President, 2009-10 Caribbean Atlantic District Governor) “Key Club can impact your life and the lives of others in ways you can't even begin to imagine. Every individual that goes through the experience of being in Key Club will change and grow as a person in countless ways.” – Varun Aswati (Current PNW District Governor, I.P. PNW District Bulletin Editor)

“For the leadership experience you can gain from being a member, meet lifelong friends, the chance you get to help the less fortunate while having fun doing it.” – Alanzo Small (Immediate Past Jamaica District Governor, 2009-10 Jamaica District Bulletin Editor) “You should join Key Club if you feel that in order for us as a people to succeed in the future, we must work towards improvement now. You should join Key Club if you have ever read something devastating in the newspaper and thought „I wish I could help.‟ You should join Key Club if you feel you are, or would like to be, a leader in your home, school, community, or world. You should join Key Club if you want to make a difference in the lives of others. You should join Key Club if you are willing to commit your life to caring.” – Wyatt Fisher (Current PNW District Lieutenant Governor)

QUESTION OF THE MONTH: Why Should I join Key Club? “Key club is an organization that defines who you are. It defines how you wake up, where you make friends, and why you love. Key club is a way of life, nothing more, nothing less.” – Calvin Leung (Current PNW District Lieutenant Governor) “In addition to getting the opportunity to do some well needed good in the world, you would be joining a very large, warm and caring family. The objective that reads to "to form enduring friendships" is no joke! I met two of my friends in key club, they are like family, and I have no clue what I would do without them. Additionally, I have friends and now loved ones all over the Caribbean and North America, it gave me the chance to form lasting bonds wherever I went, and now, wherever I go, I feel extremely loved and blessed.” - Alana Ingram (2008-2009 Key Club International Trustee, 2007-08 Jamaica District Lieutenant Governor) “I joined key club to help people and to have fun. It's cool to be in a community of people that think the same way.”- Brenden Tschuy (Immediate Past Club President) “Well, Key club has been a beacon of light in my life. Although Key Club is a service leadership program, it goes so much further than that. Apart from providing great opportunities to give back to my country and the less-fortunate all over the world, it has really been a major factor in my mental and physical growth; from instilling a certain quality of morals to assisting in remaining physically healthy through my enlightenment. Key club also helps in satisfying our desire, as teenagers, to meet new persons and to socialize. This is not limited to people our age, but includes many successful adults who provide the motivation for our success in the future. ” -Jahnoi Anderson (Current Jamaica District Lieutenant Governor)

“For the 5 years I‟ve been in Key Club, serving in the Jamaica District for 3 years, and I‟ve reached my 2nd year in PNW, I‟ve grown so much as an individual. I‟ve learnt to speak gracefully in public, lead and serve at the same time, and I‟ve found the me I‟ve never knew before. Above all, I‟ve found a new family in Key Club.” –Giovanni McKenzie (Current PNW District Lieutenant Governor, Past Jamaica District Key Clubber)
