The Key School is founded upon the conviction that children are innately curious about themselves and the world; they want to learn, they want to discover, and they want to create. Our mission is to nourish and guide this natural exuberance, energy, and delight in the search for meaning, so that each student embraces lifelong learning and develops into an informed, thoughtful, and constructive member of society. Dear Members of the Key School Community, The true measure of the strength of a community is how it responds to a challenge, or in the case of the COVID-19 Pandemic, a crisis. Does the community rally around a common goal? Does self-interest take precedent and ultimately lead to divisiveness? Does empathy and patience prevail over frustration and anger? Does the community unite, or become fragmented? Like many other institutions and organizations, Key is faced with managing the unmanageable. We continue to look for certainty and consistency where there is little to be found. While flexibility is a trait we want all our children to have, we like to nurture that trait through consistent systems and structures that we can count on remaining in place. Many organizations have not been able to unite; thankfully Key has, and I am deeply grateful to all of you for the support you have so willingly given our School. The generosity and volunteerism that our families, Parents’ Association Leadership, Board of Trustees, and my colleagues gave to Key last year has positioned us to weather the challenges we will face this year and, once the COVID-19 crisis is behind us, to move forward as a school from a position of strength, both culturally and financially. My heartfelt thanks to Joe Janney for his steadfast leadership of the Board of Trustees for the past four years. With Alanna Wright now leading the stewards of the School, coupled with one of the finest Senior Administrative Teams I have worked with during my twenty seven years in independent schools, Key is prepared for the challenges ahead as we work to support our faculty and staff in their efforts to inspire your children and help them grow. Dear Key School Friends, Despite unprecedented challenges resulting from the global pandemic this year, the Key community continued its long tradition of stepping-up to support the school. Parents, alumni, students, faculty and staff, all contributed in many ways to maintain our course through a challenging period. As you will see in this Annual Report, Key remains on a strong financial foundation due to this collective support. I am incredibly grateful to all for their part in the school’s success. Independent school sustainability is challenging during normal times, but especially difficult during these uncertain times. The support of our community this year is, therefore, more important than ever, and I thank all who kept Key as a philanthropic priority. I would like to add a special thank you to Matthew, and to our faculty and staff for their hard work in adapting to this year’s unique challenges. They rose to the occasion, working long hours, keeping our children’s interests and safety first, while under their own family and personal pressures. The results of their efforts are remarkable and greatly appreciated by all. It has been my privilege and distinct honor to lead your Board of Trustees for the past four years. I am proud of the work that our entire community has done to keep Key the special place that it is for our children. WAYS TO GIVE When considering a gift to Key, there are many opportunities that will not only support the excellence of the School’s outstanding programs, but may also provide a tax-deductible contribution to the donor.
Cash Contributions Unrestricted gifts of cash are the easiest and most popular way to support The Key School. The School accepts gifts of cash including payment by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Credit cards can be processed online or in the Advancement Office during normal business hours. Checks should be made payable to Key School. Simple Giving The Advancement Office can process automatic weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly debits to your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) or checking account. Please contact the Advancement Office for more information. Matching Gifts The impact of a contribution can be greatly increased by a matching employer gift. When considering a donation, consult with your employer and, if

applicable, forward a completed matching gift form to the Advancement Office with your contribution. A matching gift can dramatically increase your support for the School. Stocks And Securities Gifts of stock or securities benefit the donor and the School. This type of gift is a tax-deductible contribution and the donor may avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated stock or security. Your broker and the Advancement Office can provide information and assistance. Deferred or Planned Gifts Gifts of real estate, tangible personal property, bequests, life insurance and Charitable Trusts are of great value to the School and may provide many advantages to the donor.
