When we arrive at the beautiful festival area there will be nothing more than fields of grass, which we in a few days will change into a lively place with tents, cafĂŠs, activities, laughter, music and joy. The festival area will have everything that is needed to make such a festival run smoothly and give you some wonderful days you will never forget.
There are so many activities that it will be impossible to get around to all of them. Some activities will be compulsory for all participants. But there will also be room in the programme in which you choose from a broad array of different activities, such as sports, singing, music, water sport, competitions, creative workshops, concerts, funny games and much, much more. Your group will also be invited to bring one or more special national activities from your home country. Most importantly is it that your group takes part in the festival and its activities alongside with the rest of the international participants and the Danish participants.
Our vision for Wonderful Days 2016 is a festival where cultures and nationalities inspire each other, a festival where we can enjoy our diversities and experience an interesting dialogue between people. That people will meet across borders and hopefully achieve new friendships. It is important that the Danish participants leave the festival feeling that they are part of an international organization and that the international participants get a feeling of what the YMCA and YWCA in Denmark is like.
At some point during the day we will have prayer and worship in the main tent where the whole festival is gathered. One of the days we will also have a big service where around 1.200 people will attend and make it special. Every evening there will be entertainment in the main tent, which includes singing, comedy, the festival band playing and lots of laughter. Professional artists will also give concerts in the main tent at night, which sets the frame for a fantastic party and good music. All activities on the main stage will be translated live; so international participants will be able to take part in the fun. At the festival you will of course be able to make a lot of new friends from all parts of Denmark, but there will also be around 100 international participants from all parts of the world. All the invited international guests are from the YMCA and the YWCA.
Wonderful Days is the biggest and greatest event that the YMCA and YWCA in Denmark has to offer!
Tour around
Denmark All international guests are expected to arrive on July 3rd. Before the actual festival starts on July 6th we will have two introduction days in one of the major cities in Denmark, either Aarhus or Copenhagen. The program will include sightseeing, cultural experiences, presentations and group discussions. You will get the chance to explore Denmark and to meet your festival guides and other international as well as Danish participants. If anyone wishes to get to know the Danish culture better, we will be happy to help out with arranging homestay after the festival ends July 10th. Homestay is not a part of the official program.
Location
Preliminary application
The festival will take place next to a boarding school (Blåkilde Efterskole) in the Western part of Jutland, Denmark.
We will apply for Erasmus+ funding, which we expect will cover most travel expenses and a part of the participation fee. The 1st of July 2015 we would like to hear from you the number of participants from your country that we can expect at the festival in 2016. In case we do not get funding from Erasmus+, you’re still most welcome to attend Wonderful Days, but all expenses have to be paid by the participants themselves.
Where will you stay International participants will stay in tents side by side with all other participants at the festival site. In case needed, the YMCA and YWCA in Denmark will help you with any camping equipment. All meals are prepared by volunteers and served in big meal tents, so you do not have to worry about that.
Preparation meeting
Transport to and from Denmark will be arranged by the international guests in cooperation with the International Committee of Wonderful Days.
We plan to have a preparation meeting in Denmark in the spring 2016 for all international group leaders. The aim is to inform all group leaders about practical issues, to develop a program for the introduction days in Aarhus/Copenhagen and to make sure that all international participants get the best possible experience.
Target group
Contact details
The festival is aimed at young people from 13 to 19 years of age + their leaders of any age. All groups are required to attend with at least one leader. We expect that all participants are able to communicate in English, as this is the language we will translate into.
