SUMMERSCHOOL Objectives This course will offer you different methods to improve your creative potential and experience collaborative working. We will offer you tutorials to develop and visualize your own ideas relating to Design, Interaction, Media and Urban Spaces of Berlin. You will therefore have inputs from several invited experts. As well, you will undertake some inspiring explorations of Berlin´s hot spots of design, museums and urban life. There will also be a workshop of creative body work in the nature of Berlin´s surrounding countryside. Design Thinking and Design Prototyping will empower you to produce some concrete results. Who is this course addressed to? This summerschool workshop is open to students with strong interest in collaborative working and in creative explorations. You should enjoy working together with others, be open for experiments and be interested in learning several tools of interactive objects and environments. Design and technical skills are not necessary. Methodology Learning by seeing, exploring, researching, modeling and comparing: A mix of theoretical lessons, explorative field trips and discussions. Introduction to Design In the first week you will get an introduction to design, especially industrial and communication design. You will learn about the roots and history of modern design and get a short overview of the themes and tasks for the next three weeks. Trips to Berlin‘s design hot spots like the International Design Zentrum or the Werkbundarchiv (Museum of Things) will get you immersed. Design Thinking The visualisation and designing of your ideas relating to your task setting, Design Thinking and Experience Prototyping are the main themes of the second week. We will give you the foundation of the systematic tools for this playful and popular design innovation method. After two days of intensive collaborative working at btk, Berlin and greater Berlin will be your playground for experiences and exploration. Design Prototyping The last week is dedicated to giving you the tools to prototype your ideas. We will support you with hands-on workshops in sketching, paper prototyping, physical prototyping and media spaces. A final presentation will give you the opportunity to get broad feedback from all summer school participants.
