TAGALOA
TAGALOA Fee: $30,250 inc GST / 16.1hh Lord Kanaloa (JPN) X Vasilissa (JPN), by Heart’s Cry (JPN)
A two-year-old Group 1 winner by Japanese Horse of the Year, astounding sprinter and exceptional sire Lord Kanaloa (JPN), Tagaloa is set to stand his second season at stud for Yulong. A precocious winner at two, he was victorious in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), recording the fastest time by a two-year-old at Caulfield since 2011. It is a race won by the likes of Champion First Season Sire, Extreme Choice, in-demand sire Star Witness and prolific Champion, Redoute’s Choice. As a three-year-old he scored the Group 3 CF Hayes Stakes (1400m) to solidify a superb race career. Tagaloa proved popular with breeders in his first season at stud in 2021, covering a strong book of 148 mares including Group 1 winner Miss Sentimental, and Group winners Gregers, Neena Rock and Mamwaazel. Boasting precocity and an outstanding physical, he also offers the Australian breeder an international outcross pedigree.
“We loved the fact that Tagaloa was a brilliantly fast Group 1-winning 2YO. We had a young Commands mare who needed a Danehill free Stallion that was also a precocious racehorse, and he fitted the bill perfectly. We are excited by the Japanese blood and what they are doing down here, but he is a rare commodity - not only does he have the Japanese Blood but he’s also an elite Australian two-year-old Group 1 winner.” Dean Hawkins of Wentwood Grange, breeder of Group 1 winners Kermadec and Kolding.
