Mr Brendon Blakemore Chairman of the Board

As I reflect on 2024, I continue to be amazed at what has been accomplished since King’s Christian College started in 1980. Many things have changed over the years, including new campuses, new facilities, new staff members, new education methods and new leadership. What has not changed is the commitment to our mission statement, “Educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow’s generation”. What this means is educating from a Christian worldview and focusing on developing the character of our students so they can make a significant contribution to our community. King’s provides our students with many and varied opportunities to grow in character as they journey from our Early Learning Centre through to graduating in Year 12. Our education, sport, Christian living, performing arts, extra-curricular, cultural, leadership and missions programs are all designed to help our students become all God has called them to be.

We also must give thanks to God for what he is doing in and through King’s. There are many bible verses that speak about gratitude and thankfulness, and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 is among my favourites;

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”. On behalf of the board, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who makes the King’s community so special and take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Christmas season.

Of course, these programs would not be successful without the commitment and passion of our incredible staff. I am continually impressed with their dedication to our students and the genuine care they provide to them.

Mr Rees Davis Executive Principal

Educating for the future Recently I had the opportunity to hear Professor C Brooks from Harvard Business School talk about one of his research areas in leadership - getting happier in an unhappy world. Professor Brooks is a noted speaker and a noted church man. His research indicates that rather than working on not being unhappy, that happiness comes from elements of enjoyment, satisfaction and meaning, and these are underpinned by habits associated with faith, family, friends and meaningful work. His research is talking about long-term happiness rather than seeking to avoid unhappiness. Indeed, he says that much meaning in life springs from things that could be called unhappy, such as hard work, perseverance and forgiveness. To him, cultivating good attitudes and habits is what leads to happiness.

Kaleidoscope 2024

As a school, we are blessed with our extraordinary staff. Good attitudes and habits can be taught, but they are more caught from people we respect. We are blessed to have staff who model good attitudes and habits. I am so pleased with the accomplishments of our students across our three campuses. I would like to thank all our staff for their hard work and wish all families every happiness and success over Christmas and into the New Year.

Campus Principal

Mr Jorrie Oosthuizen Campus Principal

The theme for this year has been ‘Pursuing Excellence’ - a value deeply embedded in everything we do. As a Christian community, this concept of excellence extends far beyond students’ academic, sporting, performing arts, and other achievements. In 1 Corinthians 12:31, the Apostle Paul, in addressing the church, remarks: “And I will show you a still more excellent way”. Then, in Chapter 13, he talks about the way of love. That chapter reminds us that our responsibility as a Christian community is to walk in and model Christ’s love to create an environment where our students can flourish. Ultimately, it is about reflecting Christ’s love in our actions and relationships. True excellence is shown in how we serve one another, show compassion, and live out our faith through kindness, humility, and selflessness. As you page through this year’s memories and achievements contained in this Kaleidoscope you will see students, staff, parents and friends who have deepened in their commitment to the wellbeing and development of one another. Whether through acts of service, supporting a peer in need, enjoying the learning journey or the simple daily interactions in our classrooms and playgrounds, I know our love of Christ and for one another has transformed hearts and deepened our sense of purpose as a community. It is in this culture of excellence that we have witnessed the incredible achievements of every student and their growth throughout the year. As we draw to the close of another remarkable year, I want to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to everyone in our community for your support, commitment, and partnership throughout 2024. I would like to especially acknowledge the Parents and Friends Association, led with great competence by Lu-Anne Tait, along with all Parent Ambassadors, for their dedicated and selfless service to our community. Finally, I want to thank every staff member for their dedication to fostering a positive learning environment and community. Your commitment to excellence in the areas you serve has been truly exemplary. I look forward to all that 2025 holds for our students, staff, and families. May you all have a blessed and restful Christmas season.

Chaplaincy

Mrs Sue Sweeney Campus Pastor

We have had a very productive year in Chaplaincy at Logan Village. Our Chaplaincy and Student Wellbeing teams have had a lot of opportunities to express the love, acceptance and goodness of God to all the students. The team is a vital part of the school community. We are involved in connecting with new students, supporting our students in their spiritual journey, engaging in lunchtime activities, pastoral care, organising weekly chapels, having one-on-one catch-ups, Saints Junior, running devotions at camps and partnering with the church to run Beyond. In 2024, our Chapel themes across the year were: Term 1 – You Have a Friend in Jesus; Term 2 – The Voice; Term 3 – Team Olympics; and Term 4 – Stories of Jesus. Some highlights were the students guessing who the voice was each week. Also, seeing so many students from different primary classes getting involved in the Olympic Chappy challenges at lunchtimes and winning points for their class. We loved watching the class spirit and seeing the war cries and class mascots. The standout for the year has been seeing so many students growing in their relationship with Jesus. Many have also made the decision to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. It is always a joy to see students accepting Jesus and discovering that they are loved, that He has special gifts and talents for them, and that He has a purpose for their lives. What a privilege we have as we partner together to advance God’s kingdom and raise up Christian leaders for tomorrow’s generation! As a team, we are looking forward to 2025 and all that God has in store for our students.

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Instrumental Music String Orchestra Hollie Dorozhkin

Mr Lindsay Genge Director of Instrumental Music

“You know what made my education worthwhile? Music. It made me want to go to school, it made me want to stay at school, and it opened my eyes to what I could achieve at school. More importantly, it made me feel comfortable in school, and in myself. Music made it all worthwhile.” Vaughan Fleischfresser The backbone of Instrumental Music is the weekly lessons, which facilitate students’ upskilling, development and progress. These, combined with persistence and dedicated practice, lay a solid foundation for growth and success. Guided by highly accomplished and professional teachers, the students are guided toward mastering their craft. The mission of King’s ‘Educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow’s generation’, is nurtured within Instrumental Music. All Year 4 students were immersed in a music experience with the compulsory Instrumental Music Immersion Program. The students learned one orchestral instrument over the year, with weekly lessons and ensembles undertaken. The program culminated in a concert for parents and Year 3 students in Term 4. The Year 6 students also enjoyed learning an instrument with the acoustic guitar taught in the classroom music lessons. Students’ music participation opportunities were increased this year. King’s Concert Band and Recorder Ensemble are now available, and they join the King’s String Orchestra as ensemble opportunities for students learning these instruments. All the groups gave public performances during the year, both at school and at community events, including Twilight Concerts, special assemblies and Eisteddfod. A very special highlight this year was the Quota Beenleigh Eisteddfod. This was our first foray into the competition, with outstanding performances from the students. Year 4 Beginner Band and Year 4 Beginner Strings were both awarded 1st place in their sections, while the Concert Band was awarded 2nd place. Congratulations, staff and students! King’s strings students from Reedy Creek, Pimpama and Logan Village joined together for a day-long workshop where they learned new skills and improved their craft on their string instrument. Many of King’s own educators facilitated the event as well as our guest educator, Mr Mark Sullivan.

Early Learning Mrs Maire Bruneau Head of Early Learning

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared at Noah’s Ark Early Learning Centre. All our students, from Pre Kindy to Pre Prep, settled into their new environment with enthusiasm and ease, and it was evident from the moment they walked in that this was going to be a year of discovery, creativity, and growth. Our supportive and nurturing environment and welcoming staff made our young learners feel secure and excited about their new experiences. One of the year’s highlights was our commitment to embracing and celebrating the diverse cultures represented in our community during Multicultural Week. Excitedly, we welcomed our parents into the Centre to share their unique cultural traditions and stories. We were overwhelmed by the response from our families. These special moments not only broadened our children’s understanding of the world in which they live but fostered a deeper appreciation for diversity. Our Mother’s Day, Father’s Night, and Grandparents’ Day celebrations were heartfelt highlights of the year. For Mother’s Day, the Centre was abuzz with hand massage tables, aromatic play dough, nail painting stations, bead making and icing biscuits. We had an awesome outdoor evening for our Dads with sausage sizzle, construction activities and lawn games. There’s always so much love flowing on Grandparents’ Day with many cherished memories being made. This year, Grandparents’ Day coincided with our King’s Country Fair. In Term 3 we saw the exciting addition of Bush Kindy into our Pre Prep program. At King’s Early Learning, we believe children flourish when given ample time to play outdoors. Nature contact benefits their physical health, mental well-being, and sparks curiosity about the natural world around them. We aim to support healthy risk-taking, independence, and confidence through child-led play and exploration. At Bush Kindy, children will engage in activities like getting muddy, climbing trees, investigating plants and animals, balancing on logs, rolling down hills and drawing in the dirt. Children are natural learners, and Bush Kindy provides the perfect environment for them to thrive. None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the incredible staff at Noah’s Ark, I thank them for their love, passion and commitment to our children and their families.

“But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

Koalas Mrs Mikaela Lentakis Group Leader What a wonderful and busy year it has been in the Koala’s room! It has been a fantastic year where we were able to care for, support and watch your children grow. The beautiful teachers we have had this year to help nurture children are Mrs Lentakis, Miss A, Mrs Dunne & Miss Vernon. We have welcomed many new families into our room this year. The children settled well into the environment and quickly became familiar with the routines. Many friendships have been formed throughout this year, helping the children to develop a sense of belonging to the King’s community. We are privileged to start each day with praise and worship action songs and learning about Jesus. We have been blessed to have chapel each week in the Pre Prep rooms and our own room. Some of the themes we have covered this year are Space, Ocean – Learning about the different animals that live in the ocean, Cultures around the world, Bees and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Inside the classroom, the children have loved exploring their creative side while engaging in arts and crafts, home corner, dress ups and playdough. They particularly enjoyed sensory and messy play activities. The outdoor space is an extension of the classroom where the children could use their knowledge when cooking in the mud kitchen and the sand pit. They enjoyed doing artwork under the gazebo, participating in various sensory play activities, running races, and kicking the ball together. We have loved welcoming our families into the Koala’s room during special events such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Evening BBQ, Grandparents Day and Multicultural Week. One of the highlights for our children was having the Wild Ranger’s incursion. The children had the opportunity to learn about Australian reptiles. We also had Henny Penny visit our classroom. The children have loved watching the chickens hatch and looking after them. It was a great joy and pleasure teaching your children this year. Thank you for entrusting them to our King’s Family.

Kangaroos Mrs Jese Turagabeci Group Leader We have had a wonderful year in the Kangaroos Pre-Kindy class. We began the year by supporting the children to become familiar and confident in their new surroundings. The children formed respectful relationships with educators and began to establish new friendships. The children’s interests led to many enriched learning experiences, and we enjoyed learning about our families, exploring colours and experimenting with colour mixing, investigating shapes, dinosaurs, insects and the world around us. The Big Tree has become the Kangaroos favourite outdoor space where we gather in the shade of the tree, watch the clouds, read stories, sing songs, roll down the hill, listen to the birds and marvel at the beautiful world we are so blessed to live in. The Kangaroos engaged in many art pieces using various materials this year. Many children enjoyed dramatic play, becoming shop owners, doctors, firefighters, paramedics and caring for babies. The children enjoyed singing praise and worship songs at our weekly combined Chapel services and learning weekly bible stories, with many of them taking what they learnt home to tell their loved ones. We also participated in many incredible and delicious cooking experiences throughout the year. With this year being an Olympic year, the children enjoyed learning about the Olympics in an age-appropriate way. We explored the colours of the Olympic rings and their significance through different fine motor, cooking and craft experiences. We moved on to exploring ancient Greece and olive leaf crowns, holding our very own Olympic games together with our Koala Pre-Kindy friends. The children enjoyed creating their own Olympic medals, watching snippets of the swimming and cheering for the ‘Green and Gold’. It has been such a great delight and privilege getting to know the children alongside Mrs Djong, Mrs Parvez and Miss Vernon this year. Thank you for entrusting your little ones to us, we pray the Lord’s richest blessings over your children as they continue their learning journey.

Bilbies Mrs Jean Certeza Teacher The year in the Bilbies room has been both exciting and bustling. Our foremost goal is to nurture the children’s emotional and social skills, preparing them for their transition to Prep. Each morning begins with a prayer, followed by praise and worship. It’s heartwarming to witness the children joyfully dancing, singing praises, and eagerly leading prayers alongside their peers. The children have learned to confront challenges, whether it’s tackling various tasks in the room or navigating friendships. A highlight this year has been their progress with cutting activities. Initially hesitant, they gradually built up the courage and resilience to participate. Now, they eagerly cut out masks and animal shapes, taking such pride in their work that they frequently request group photographs. This year, we introduced Bush Kindy, where children have learned to appreciate nature, utilizing natural materials like sticks, stones, and plants for play. Their imagination and creativity flourished, drawing inspiration from the natural world. They also learned respect for the creatures that share their environment. Throughout the year, we’ve delved into various topics and themes, including space, insects, plants, habitats, healthy eating, health and hygiene, and environmental preservation through recycling and composting. We’ve also celebrated special occasions such as Mother’s Day, Anzac Day, Multicultural Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, and Easter, integrating activities that foster the children’s literacy and numeracy development. Observing the children’s growth and skill development over the year has been a joy. We wish them all the best in 2025!!

Echidnas Mrs Paige Dorrington Teacher Working in the Echidna’s room has been an absolute privilege, allowing us to build deeper connections with the children and their families. Witnessing the children’s progress over the past year has been a highlight. Ms. Hunter and I take immense pride in their growth and evolving confidence. We’ve watched beautiful friendships bloom as the children worked closely on group activities, resulting in unique creations. Their willingness to show empathy and support for one another has been heartwarming – from seeing the children get each other’s drink bottles to helping each other make their beds during rest time. We have had a big emphasis on ‘teamwork makes the dream work’ this year and the children have really thrived. Our morning worship is when we praise Jesus and nurture the children’s faith by engaging in Bible stories. With a focus on teamwork and building the children’s understanding of God’s love for us, the children became engrossed in the bible story of Moses and his compassion. During class discussions, we talked about how we can show kindness and love towards others. We also dived into the Noah’s Ark Bible story and designed our own Ark out of cardboard. The children took on the role of the animals as they dressed up in costumes and pretended to board the Ark. The Echidna’s class has been part of the rolling out of Bush Kindy at Noah’s Ark Logan Village. This has allowed the children to connect with nature and extend their understanding of the world. The children have become bewildered by trees and their root systems. They have built an understanding of the importance of caring for trees as they produce oxygen and provide homes for different animals. Experiences provided by the educators during Bush Kindy have inspired and encouraged the children to inquire, wonder, and foster child-led play and learning. At Noah’s Ark, we prioritize building a sense of community. This year, we invited families to join us for many special occasions, such as celebrating multiculturalism, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Grandparents’ Day and Sports Day. Our Echidna’s children eagerly anticipate their transition to Prep, and we’ve prepared them by familiarizing them with the Prep classrooms, Chapel, Library, and playground. It’s been an incredible year, and we wish them all the best for 2025.

Possums Mrs Vanessa McGregor & Mrs Emmelene Dengate Teachers As we look back on such a wonderful year in Possums, it has been a privilege to have journeyed with the children, preparing them for their first year of school. Our Possum team changed through the year, with Mrs Maguire joining us in Term 1 and then going on maternity leave in Term 3. Mrs Ngapo then joined the team, with Mrs Vernon, to see us through the rest of the year. The children have engaged in a range of experiences in a play-based format to help them grow and develop. We have explored themes that have helped the children connect with their environment, wider community and the world around them - nature, mini beasts, seeds and the life cycle of plants, where our food comes from, farms and healthy eating. This led to various cooking experiences, which the children loved, especially the tasting! This extended into setting up a shop and grocery store and buying food, creating a sequence of learning that continued onto reuse, recycling and composting. We have also played games, teaching the children how to participate, take turns and follow simple rules. We played hoop, ball, racing, circle, and good old-fashioned party games. Other themes included our multicultural week celebrations, where we learnt about different countries, their food, flags, counting in other languages, stories, and art, and Aboriginal culture, artifacts, art and local languages. The children enjoyed exploring space, rockets, planets and the stars; designing, making and launching a rocket ship. They were so excited when it was their turn to ‘blast off’! They then launched their air rockets, too, with squeals and cheers each time the rockets went up in the air. Other highlights included Henny Penny, our egg hatching program, Book Week, where we dressed up as our favourite characters, and special days celebrating family, where our mothers, fathers and grandparents visited our room. It wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Bush Kindy, launched at Noah’s Ark for the first time this year. Safe to say, it has been a huge success! We have taken our classroom into nature for the children to engage in nature play and nature discovery in a peaceful natural environment. We have had an amazing year, with an amazing Pre Prep cohort making each day special.

Wombats Mrs Janina Boshoff Teacher What a wonderful and busy year we have had in the Wombats room! It has been a real privilege to teach, support and care for your children, as well as getting them ready for Prep 2025, alongside Miss Davis, Mrs Vernon and Mrs Steve. Every morning, we start our day with a Bible story chosen by the children. This is followed by ‘Praise -and-Worship’, the daily weather and calendar, and choosing chores called ‘Handy Helpers’. A weekly music lesson by a qualified music teacher has been the highlight for our Wombat friends this year, learning about tempo, pitch, and musical notes. Woven through our Pre-prep program are our many special events, such as Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Father’s Night, Book Week, NAIDOC Week, Anzac commemorations, and many more. We also had special incursions this year, like Wild Rangers and Henny Penny Hatchlings, where children watched chicks hatch in the incubator. This year we have had Bush Kindy as an addition to our Pre Prep program. Bush Kindy was one of our favourite experiences among our children, and they loved spending time at our new site, where they could climb our tree stump or look for natural birds along the Logan River. The outdoor space, especially the trees, is a favourite spot for the children. In the outdoor area we focused on sustainable practices this year, teaching the children the life cycle of plants in practice. We also included a unit learning about insects this year, as the children in our room showed great interest in finding these in the outdoor space. Process-art experiences are always a focus point in our room. This year, we linked it to the children’s interest in collage, using recycled elements to create artworks with recycled cardboard, and other items brought in from home. It was a great joy and pleasure teaching your children this year. Thank you for entrusting them to our King’s family this year.

Playtime Mrs Mekila Pennisi Playtime Coordinator We have enjoyed another fantastic year of Playtime at Logan Village and are so blessed to continue building friendships and connections that will see our little friends thrive as they continue on their journey towards school. We have welcomed many new families into our playtime fold over the course of the year and it has been wonderful to watch the children and the caregivers form bonds that will be there for many years to come. It has been exciting to watch the babies go from crawling to walking. Watching the toddlers learn social skills and navigate the joys of sharing. All the while, the caregivers have chatted over the perils of parenting and sharing the highs and lows of raising children. As we farewell our future pre-preppies off to their new adventures next year, we will miss their infectious giggles and creative play. However, we know that they will be continuing their learning journey, and they will be just a wave away at Noah’s Ark. It has been an absolute pleasure and a blessing co-ordinating Playtime this year, and I look forward to hearing how God is moving in the lives of all our Logan village families. May you all continue to find joy in play, and in some cases, it’s best to look at life through the lens of a child.

Primary Mr Peter Fossey Head of Primary

As we approach the end of 2024, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared this year at King’s Christian College. Our campus has been abuzz with activity, growth, and countless examples of what makes our school a truly special place One of the highlights of the year has undoubtedly been our Camp program. These experiences have provided our students with opportunities to challenge themselves, grow in their faith, confidence and develop stronger bonds with their peers and teachers. It’s been heartening to witness their personal growth as they’ve faced new challenges with courage and determination, returning to school with newfound resilience and stories of adventure. Our campus has continued to expand and evolve, offering a beautiful learning environment that reflects our commitment to providing the best for our students. The new forecourt has become a central hub for gathering and connection, enhancing our strong sense of community. We are fortunate to have such amazing academic and support staff who work tirelessly to create an atmosphere of excellence and care. Their dedication ensures that every student is supported, encouraged, and given the tools they need to thrive. A special mention must go to our parent ambassadors at each year level. Their involvement, enthusiasm, and support have been instrumental in fostering a strong partnership between home and school. It’s through this collaboration that our students receive the holistic education we so passionately strive to provide. This year, our students have excelled not only in academics but also in a range of co-curricular activities. The recent eisteddfod and sports carnivals showcased the incredible talents of our students, as they performed with enthusiasm, skill, and sportsmanship. Our choir and music programs have also flourished, with performances that have filled us with pride and joy.

Academically, our Year 3 and 5 students have achieved outstanding results in NAPLAN, reflecting our students’ and staff’s hard work and commitment. These achievements are a testament to the rigorous and supportive learning environment we cultivate here at King’s Christian College. While these large and visible accomplishments are certainly worth celebrating, it’s important to remember that an essential part of any school year lies in the countless daily purposeful, unseen small acts of love and kindness. Our staff, in partnership with parents, continually go above and beyond to make the College what it is—a place where every child is loved, known, valued, and nurtured. As we close out the year, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone in our community—students, staff, parents, and supporters. Together, we have created a year filled with learning, growth, and countless moments of joy. I look forward to hearing of all that 2025 will bring, knowing that with the same spirit of Christ’s love, collaboration and care, we will continue to make King’s Christian College a place where our students can truly flourish. Wishing you all a restful and blessed holiday season.

Prep Mrs Andrea Brown Lead Teacher 2024 has been a journey of growth for our five Prep classes, who have embarked on their first formal year of schooling while blending academic learning with spiritual development. Under the dedicated guidance of their teachers, Mrs Brown, Mrs Mann, Mrs Moore, Mrs Duvenage and Mrs Steenkamp, students have explored letters and sounds, blending sounds together to read words, sentences and stories. They’ve built upon their knowledge of number to add and subtract. Through the exploration of King’s foundational values, such as self-control, compassion, integrity and courage, students integrated these Christ-like virtues into their love of learning. While grasping the basics of literacy and numeracy, our Prep students are learning to be respectful, thoughtful and caring, exemplifying the values of our Kings community. Some of our highlights this year have been a live marine animal interaction with marine educators from Ocean Life Education. Students engaged with a baby bamboo shark, a freshwater turtle, blue linckia seastars and sea cucumbers. Students enjoyed wearing their pyjamas to school in June for pyjama day. To celebrate the milestone of 100 days of Prep, the students dressed up as grannies and grandpas. The event was filled with fun as students participated in numerous craft activities and proudly paraded their costumes to the Pre Prep students at Noah’s Ark. After learning about a range of Australian animals and the climates they live in, Prep students visited Paradise Country participating in discussions and activities to learn about the basic needs of animals, such as food and shelter. It has been a fun-filled year, and we thank our Prep families for their ongoing, invaluable support. We hope our students will look back on their Prep year with fond memories.

Year 1 Mrs Rachael Abbot Lead Teacher 2024 has been a remarkable year for our Year 1 students at King’s Logan Village, marked by growth in friendships, explorations, and understanding. At the core of our curriculum are the King’s Foundational Values. This year, our students have truly embodied these values, Learning Passionately, Living Purposefully, Loving Faithfully, and Leading Diligently. Witnessing these virtues in their daily lives has been heartwarming, reflecting the strong collaboration between our school and our families. In Term 1, our students were filled with curiosity as they explored the changes from ‘the olden days’ to the present. An incursion brought historical artefacts to our doorstep, allowing students to interact with treasures from the past. They engaged deeply in learning about their growth over time by creating memory boxes filled with items from their early childhood and eagerly sharing their stories with their peers. Term 2 saw our students thinking like scientists, discovering how everyday materials can be changed. A visit from Street Science was a highlight, where students created their own bouncy balls. Throughout the term, they continued to develop their reading and writing skills through explicit literacy instruction and worked on developing their number sense to 120. By Term 3, anticipation was high as students learned about the features of places and began designing their own Tiny Town. They planned, constructed, drew maps, and presented their Tiny Town creations, which were truly impressive. The term was also enriched with events like Science Week, Book Week, Father’s Day, and Creative by Design Week. In Term 4, students investigated the features of living things and explored how they can make a difference in ensuring the safety and survival of living creatures and their habitats. They researched a chosen animal and compiled their findings into an information report. A trip to Paradise Country was a highlight, providing students the opportunity to interact with various animals.

Year 2 Mrs Leanne Curtis Lead Teacher Our Year 2 cohort at Logan Village Campus has enjoyed a wonderful year of learning under the guidance of our passionate teaching team. We began 2024 with a ‘Minibeasts’ theme, which inspired our writing and science investigations. Students were fascinated by the ‘Wildlife Rangers’ incursion and were able to observe some amazing creatures ‘up close and personal’. They gained a greater understanding of the integral role of minibeasts in God’s creation. Each child created a 3D ‘Life Cycle’ model of their chosen creature, demonstrating their transformational growth stages. Swimming lessons were also a memorable component of Term 1 learningessential for the water safety of all students and an opportunity for some to extend their skills. Our focus on ‘Water’ took us on a Term 2 excursion to Hinze Dam. We now have a further appreciation for the need to conserve this precious resource and insights into the journey of water from the dam to our taps. Our beloved 2LB teacher, Mrs McGuire, gave birth to a baby boy during the holidays after completing Semester 1 in the classroom. In her place, Mrs Lanting joined our team to continue the year very capably. Mr Ramsay had a brief time of leave for Army Reserve Training during Term 3. His 2LC class is most enthusiastic in singing the National Anthem during assemblies, and we honour his commitment and service to our country. In Semester 2, our students studied ‘Forces in Motion’ and enjoyed an immersive ‘Street Science’ incursion that included making and launching a simple rocket. Using hands-on experiments, we also investigated friction, buoyancy, and air resistance. The unit culminated in the individual design and construction of a ‘push/pull’ toy. The year concluded with a journey into the past at ‘Beenleigh Historical Village’ and imaginations of the future. It has been a privilege to be involved in our students’ growth and learning this year. We look forward to seeing them continue to thrive, knowing that God loves them and has a purpose for their lives.

Year 3 Mrs Kim Saul Lead Teacher Luminous, vast, expansive and mysterious. Our Year 3 students have been propelled into a world of vocabulary with boundless scientific adjectives to excel their writing into outer space. Speaking of space, the Year 3 rocket designed by our grounds staff and painted by the students was enjoyed by all who came into our multipurpose space during Term 3. The trip to the Planetarium was so enjoyable, with one student claiming it was the best excursion they had been on. We followed a nature hunt through the Brisbane Botanic Gardens to discover more about the types of plants and animals in our capital city. Speaking of cities, in Term 1, the students became knowledgeable experts on the natural and man-made features of our great Australian nation. Their research and artistic models showed great thought and expertise in each Australian state and territory. In Term 2, the students became ‘ambassadors’ for Australia’s neighbouring countries. The unit finished with a fantastic event where the students showcased their multicultural projects to their parents. It was a fabulous culminating activity to finish the term and highlighted the student’s work achieved through History, Technology and Design. Throughout the year, our students have worked diligently to prove they have accomplished cursive handwriting and what an achievement this has been. Many students have outshone in creating quality texts displaying beautiful handwriting and including varying sentence structures and language features. Science in Term 4 sparked the student’s interests as critical thinking was put to the test, which led to moments of curiosity and discovery for our Year 3 students. On a final note, Miss Jones, Mrs Barnes and Mrs Saul would like to say a very big congratulations to our Year 3 students of 2024 for their outstanding NAPLAN results.

Year 3 Sleepover The end-of-term sleepover was a fantastic way to celebrate the students’ hard work preparing for NAPLAN. The oval was filled with tents as the children excitedly participated in the afternoon activities. At the campfire, we made and ate damper, which was then oozed in delicious honey. On the oval, we played soccer games and ate afternoon tea before enjoying a well-earned dinner. Chappie Jess shared a devotion with us, reminding us of God’s creation while we sat under the stars. Although the weather looked bleak during the day, the clouds cleared as evening fell, allowing our special guest astronomers to show us spectacular views of the night sky through their telescopes. The moon was a beautiful sight, and our students were able to view its craters before lining up for a hot chocolate. After a disco, everyone settled down for the night, and a peaceful quiet fell over the camp. Many woke with the sunrise the next morning, and the busy task of packing up camp began. Once everyone had enjoyed a breakfast of pastries and hot drinks, it was time to head home. It was a great time of fellowship, fun, and observing our Heavenly Father’s mighty creation. Memories were made and we are so thankful for the time we had together.

Year 4 Mrs Kim Saul Lead Teacher In Term 1, students became critical-thinking citizens as we delved into the Australian Government system. Some students participated in their own re-enactment of a local Government voting day, nominating candidates for Mayor and local councillors. Students noticed the electorate signage around the community and considered who might be their local council members. One student even noticed that their local member was present at a sporting event, excitedly reporting this to their family and class. This was a great example of making a connection from the classroom to the real world around them. Students posed questions and considered the impact of a three-tiered government system and what our society might be like without them. Year 4 teachers were impressed with students’ final drafts of their Local Government Explanations. In Term 2, students were stretched to their limits as they explored forces and Newton’s three laws of motion through our incredible Hungry Hippos incursion. They pulled, dove and jumped as they felt the resistance of the tension belts. Throughout the day students predicted and tested how laws of motion can be felt and experienced in our world. In Term 3, students compared various perspectives of First Nations Peoples, British convicts and free settlers during Australian colonisation. They created a timeline to identify key events during the First Fleet journey. Students researched and discussed convicts’ life conditions and First Nations experiences with curiosity and compassion. Just as students considered the impact of governments on society in Term 1, they determined the impacts of all living and non-living organisms on the ecosystems in God’s creation during Term 4. Critical thinking was also an integral part of this unit, as students assessed the impact of human intervention in our environment, evaluating their opinions to construct a persuasive piece of writing.

Year 5 Mrs Sarah Gilmour Lead Teacher As we wrap up this school year, let’s take a moment to celebrate the amazing Year 5 students and all they’ve accomplished. It’s been a busy, exciting year filled with memorable experiences and impressive achievements. In Term 1, our Year 5 stars dove into the wonders of space, learning about planets, stars, and space missions. They put together some super presentations with interactive models and posters, sharing their passion for the cosmos in a way that was both fun and informative. They explored how animals adapt to their environments and created hands-on activities for our Prep students. It was a great way to share their knowledge and get everyone excited about the amazing world of animal adaptations and how God made our world so beautiful. The Year 5 Science Fair was a blast! Students showcased their creative experiments and research projects and handled questions confidently and enthusiastically. Their curiosity and hard work were truly inspiring. The students also tackled the important topic of natural disaster preparedness. They learned about safety protocols and response strategies through simulations, gaining valuable skills and understanding. This year, many students stepped up into leadership roles and worked together on our camp to Burleigh. Their teamwork and organisation made the camp a fantastic experience for everyone involved. We look forward with great confidence and expectation for the work that the Primary student leadership team of 2025 will achieve. It’s been a wonderful year, and we couldn’t be prouder of what the Year 5 students have achieved. Thanks to everyone for your support, and here’s to a bright future ahead!

Year 4&5 Camp It was very exciting to see our Year 4 and 5 students having such an enjoyable time at Camp CYC Burleigh Heads. It is a picturesque place to savour and delight in the numerous water activities the students took part in on the Tallebudgera Creek. Mealtimes were abounding in delicious food and students were very excited to be spending the night with friends in their cabins. It was great to see so many students forming new friendships. One highlight for the staff this year was watching all the students working together as teams to overcome difficulties and challenges. There were so many times the teaching staff witnessed perseverance and resilience. One example was raft building. The team attempted four times to build a raft they could all sit on and then paddle across the bay. There was a lot of problem solving as they tried to work with the wooden poles and barrels. They made mistakes and many times, the solution they thought would work proved to be wrong. They were not defeated, they just tried again. Eventually, after four attempts, the group sat on their raft. The shouts of elation were heard as they paddled away from shore. Multiple times during camp, students reported that they were ‘pushing out of their comfort zone’. They overcame a fear of the unknown and the anxiety of being away from home to experience triumph and victory. The students will never forget their rowing chants; they cried as they rowed their dragon boats to Crab Island before exploring for crabs and swimming. What a beautiful few days our staff and students were able to enjoy together!

Year 6 Mrs Sarah Gilmour Lead Teacher Year 6 was an exciting and transformative year, filled with engaging topics that enhanced our knowledge and prepared us for the challenges ahead. This was a year of not only academic growth, but spiritual growth. For the first year ever, our Year 6 students received their Bible at the beginning of the year. We spent time then highlighting and learning different scriptures and how we can apply them to our lives. Each term brought new adventures, making our final year of primary school truly memorable. In Term 1, we dove into the world of business. Learning about entrepreneurship, marketing, and financial literacy gave us a glimpse into how businesses operate. We even created our own mock businesses, developing products and marketing strategies, which was both fun and insightful. Moving into Term 2, we explored the significant contributions of Australian leaders to our society. We studied historical figures like Sir Henry Parkes and contemporary leaders, discussing their impact on our nation’s identity and values. This term helped us appreciate the role of leadership in shaping our community. In Term 3, our focus shifted to tourism, specifically the diverse cultures and attractions of various Asian countries. We researched destinations like Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia, learning about their unique customs, foods, and landscapes. This project sparked our interest in global cultures and the importance of tourism in our economy. Finally, in Term 4, we turned our attention to renewable energy sources and electrical circuits. We explored sustainable practices and conducted hands-on experiments, which were both educational and engaging. This term heightened our awareness of environmental issues and inspired us to think about innovative solutions for a greener future. Overall, Year 6 was a fantastic year of learning and growth. The experiences we shared have prepared us well for high school. We pray for God’s richest blessings on this special time in our Year 6 students’ lives.

Year 6 Camp Have you ever wanted to go on an epic adventure, viewing museums full of war artefacts, exploring crocodile-infested rivers, diving beneath the beautiful blue ocean to view the Great Barrier Reef, travel on the Kuranda Rail to see rainforest and waterfalls? This was our trip of a lifetime! After an hour and a half of flying through the clouds, we landed in Cairns and made the trip to The Australian Armour & Artillery Museum. While there, we saw massive tanks and history in shapes and sizes. We all squished on top of one of the tank statues for a mandatory excursion photo. It was getting late in the arvo when our caregivers finally decided we needed to see where we were laying our heads for the night. We then went back to our rooms to get our notebooks and Bibles before heading to what looked like a hall made for having grand balls. We should have been dressed up formally for the praise and worship and had our Year 6 graduation then and there! Day two was our reef day. Getting onto the boat was tough; everyone was trying to get a window seat. The engines started, and we left - leaving all sights of land behind us. As the boat weaved its way through the waters to the pontoon, all of a sudden, someone yelled, “There’s a whale’s tail!” and with that, the deck was crowded in seconds! I’m sure the boat was fully tipped to one side with all the excitement. Now, to the highlight of the trip - snorkelling! I’ve never been, and I’m sure there were lots of us who hadn’t snorkelled before; it took a little bit to get the hang of it. The Rainforrestation was our door to many Aussie Indigenous cultural experiences, from boomerang painting to didgeridoo playing and cultural dance learning. The most memorable for me was the woomera throwing contest! Among these experiences was a turn on the Army Duck - a water and land vehicle. We saw lots of native flora, some of which were killers that you wouldn’t want to brush up against. The next morning, we spent at the Hartley Crocodile Adventure - no relation to the Hartley Twins. We saw crocodiles, cassowaries, koalas, komodo dragons, snakes and more. We tried hard to rock the boat on the Crocodile experience - where the dirty river was infested with crocs that were jumping up out of the water for pieces of juicy meat. Then we attacked the gift store with our last cents. Overall, our adventure was one of a kind, never to be repeated, memorymaking fun! We, the shining Year 6 group of 2024, are so thankful to our parents and carers, teachers and administration staff for organising such a grand tour. We are such a blessed bunch of King’s Kids, and we will remember this trip forever and ever! The trip of a lifetime.

Art Mrs Stephani Joubert Art Teacher Our Primary students learning Visual Art, engage in a hands-on experience that fosters creativity and self-expression. Through various mediums like painting, drawing, and sculpture, they explore fundamental artistic concepts such as colour, form, and texture. These activities improve their fine motor skills and spatial awareness and encourage them to think critically and problem-solve. Art education at this level is designed to be playful and exploratory, allowing young learners to develop their unique style and voice while building confidence and an appreciation for the arts. The successful Easterfest Art exhibition captivated attendees with its vibrant display of creativity and talent. The exhibition was a celebration of colour, imagination, and artistic expression. The students showcased a diverse array of artworks, each piece reflecting the spirit of Easter. Year 1 students created melting clocks, while the Prep students exhibited imaginative self-portraits. Other pieces featured dynamic figures, detailed insect eyes, and vibrant flowers. Additionally, the exhibition included various sculptures, demonstrating the students’ creativity and exploration of different artistic forms.

Attendees were impressed by the high quality of the work and the thoughtful curation that highlighted the theme. The exhibition provided a platform for artists to share their work and fostered a sense of community and appreciation for the arts. In the second last term of 2024, our Year 6 cohort offered an engaging project: a Manga-style narrative that illustrated their journey at Kings Christian College. While this series of artworks develops technical skills, it creatively combines storytelling with manga aesthetics, capturing key moments and experiences from their school life. The detailed and expressive illustrations offered a personal and visually striking reflection of their time at King’s.

Spanish Mrs Ligia Conway Spanish Teacher ¡Hola a todos! We have had another year of great shared experiences and learning in Spanish class at King’s Logan Village! Wonderful things have happened this year, beginning with the opening of our new Spanish room. Our new dedicated language learning space has been a blessing as we have significantly enhanced the effectiveness of our language learning. Our room set up includes resources like Spanish-language books, multimedia tools, and culturally relevant décor which creates an engaging atmosphere that strengthens our language skills. When visiting the classroom, students mentally transition into a Spanish-learning mode, which has noticeably increased student motivation and productivity.

Another exciting development this year was the launch of our new Spanish Club at the beginning of Term 3. Every Friday, students in years 3-6 attend club meetings that blend educational and fun activities such as crafts, cooking classes and dance workshops that explore different aspects of the Spanish-speaking world. We look forward to continuing our journey next year, and we are confident that the skills and knowledge gained will serve as a strong foundation for continued learning and future endeavours in Spanish. ¡Gracias a todos por un año maravilloso!

We have also seen amazing student progress and achievements throughout the year. From understanding and applying fundamental grammar rules to trying our hand at more complex sentence structures, each student has shown steady growth. Our journey took us from basic vocabulary to taking part in lively conversations about diverse topics, including culture, history, and current events in the Spanish-speaking world. Highlights of the year included immersive activities such as roleplaying exercises and interactive language games that made learning fun and effective.

High School Miss Katie Baldwin Head of High School

This year, we marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in our school’s journey—our first year of high school! We’ve had many ‘firsts’ to celebrate: our inaugural Year 7 cohort at Logan Village High School, our first Year 7 camp, our first boys proudly wearing ties, and our very first High School Celebration Night, just to name a few. We couldn’t be prouder of how our Year 7 students have approached and embraced this new journey. From mastering the art of unlocking padlocks to remembering their novels for English, they’ve tackled each day with eagerness and enthusiasm. With students coming from many different primary schools, our first goal was to foster unity and build strong relationships within the cohort. It’s been wonderful to watch friendships, both new and existing, grow and flourish throughout the year, especially as they bonded and built memories at the Year 7 camp. Our students have also had numerous opportunities to serve the wider community through our LIFE program, organizing fun dress-up days like ‘Mad Scientist’, ‘Dress Like a Tradie’, and ‘Anything But’. Other highlights of the year include: - Winning the CSSAQ 13-18 Cross Country Trophy - Competing in CSSAQ carnivals for futsal, netball, touch football, and soccer - Students being invited to give a Welcome to Country at a Logan City Council meeting - Creating and selling keychains at the King’s Country Fair to raise funds for Operation Christmas Child - High School chapel services - Participating in the Prep Reading Program - PC devotions where students have learned about various biblical figures Well done, Year 7 students, for wholeheartedly embracing this year. We look forward to many more adventures together in Year 8!

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV) May this verse remind you of the impact you have, even at a young age, and encourage you to continue growing in faith, friendship, and purpose.

Leadership Miss Katie Baldwin Head of High School Our Year 7 students have had many opportunities this year to live out our College mission statement: “Educating Christian leaders for tomorrow’s generation.” Throughout the year, all Year 7 students were invited to share afternoon tea with our campus principal, Mr. Jorrie Oosthuizen. During this time, students were encouraged to share their thoughts on what was going well at the College and to offer any ideas they had to enhance their high school experience. Some of the activities our students have led this year include • Showing hospitality to visitors and assisting at events such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Open Day • Participating in a Prep reading program • Creating gifts for our corporate staff • Designing and building a garden at the back of the high school area • Working with the LIFE team to raise funds for organizations that support others

English Mrs Retha Barnard English Teacher WOW! What an exciting rollercoaster ride the new Year 7 students have experienced since the beginning of 2024. This journey into the unknown has kicked off by learning and revisiting the Grammar Unit. Then, their first exams. Some students find exam writing quite challenging, however, they have all survived and then prepared for their Narrative Writing. Some creative and widely imaginative stories have been submitted. The Year 7 students settle into their new nests and follow a reading routine each day. This proved to be highly successful as more than 80% of the students have entered the Premier’s Reading Challenge. To qualify, each student has to read more than 15 novels. I could not be more proud of these students. During Term 2, the students were thrown into the world of the Holocaust. We studied the novel The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas, written by John Boyne. Students then understood the reality of WW2 and the consequences of prejudice. This topic introduced many interesting conversations. The Year 7 students are actively involved in interviewing each other, while others are ‘teachers’ introducing the students to the demographics of Germany and the wider Europe. For those students who need a helping hand, mentors offer to guide and support them. This term the students are presenting their speeches in front of their peers and the topics are contentious, which will ensure different opinions and even fun. Yes? To add to the importance of community, the Year 7 students are part of the Random Act of Kindness project. Fortnightly, they have to write a RAK on a sticky note and we place that on the wall. They then inform their peers what their RAK is and subsequently, we all learn from each other. “Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness.” Anonymous 2024 will never be forgotten.

Mathematics Mr Isaiah Johnstone Mathematics Teacher Mathematics is a fundamental and exciting endeavour that explores the patterns found in God’s creation. This year at King’s, we have learnt the foundations of real numbers, patterns and algebra, measurement and space, and probability. We also saw many students participating in various mathematics competitions throughout the year, including KSF, CAT and AMC. The following are a few comments from students on their mathematics journey this year. “Math has been amazing so far! I love solving problems and learning new skills. My favourite lesson was learning circumference and pi (right after I told myself that I couldn’t do it and that it was too hard). Thanks to Mr Johnstone for helping us out with math. I’ve learnt so much that I thought I would never understand.”

“I have enjoyed doing area of composite shapes and volume of prisms. I liked learning these because they are simple, and I have a great math teacher who taught them. I enjoyed learning all the different formulas. I also liked learning pi and circumference because it was harder and more of a challenge.” Anastasia Gibson - Year 7 We are very proud of our student’s successes in Year 7, and it has been a privilege to partner with our student’s parents in their child’s education this year.

Science Miss Katie Baldwin Science Teacher This year has been filled with excitement and activity in the science lab! One of the highlights was National Science Week, which we extended to a fortnight to fit in all the experiments and practical activities. Congratulations to our students for winning the National Experiment Competition! Their photos of creating fake blood slime were selected as the best out of 20,000 entries. This year, students learned about lab safety, created a dance to explain solids, liquids, and gases, tested parachutes from the balcony, learned how to classify animals, and identified the phases of the moon. To name just a few. We look forward to even more science adventures in 2025!

Christian Studies Mr Isaiah Johnstone Christian Studies Teacher Christian Studies for Year 7 this year was curated with the goal of developing Christian leaders who can stand firm in the face of a constantly shifting culture while knowing what they believe and why. Our units have covered a variety of topics, including Where’s Your Faith At, Buoyancy and Conflict Resolution. The following are a few comments from students on their journey in Christian Studies this year. “In Christian studies, we enjoy a wide range of learning opportunities about God and getting to know more about God, plus we also get to learn about how we can make better choices by involving God in the situations we are in.” Emme Bork “Term 3 for Christian studies was my highlight, as we learnt as a class how to manage and deal with conflict. We also have been learning how God has the best path for fixing issues, and His way is the best and most righteous way. When we follow God’s instructions, we can then continue improving our relationships with our friends to feel happy and grateful.” Izaiah Bostock “Looking back, Christian studies has become a memorable highlight of my year. In Term 1, I enjoyed getting the opportunity to create our own projects based on questions that would express our faith. It was a very interesting and inspiring experience, and it motivated me to explore my faith even further. I can’t wait for more opportunities like this in the future years to come!” Anaiah Serrao

Health & Physical Education Mr Daniel Gilmour Health & PE Teacher Physical Education provides students with skills that will enhance their understanding of themselves and others around them. This year saw students better understand how they can apply their fundamental movement to a variety of different sports, as well as develop their knowledge of the game through strategy and movement sequences. Year 7 students took time to reflect on what they have experienced so far in their life, but more importantly, look towards what is to come through adolescence and learning to become more independent through the choices they make, whether it is social situations or understanding nutrition. HPE is a great opportunity for students to learn skills for life after school and create good habits for the future.

Rotational Subjects At King’s, Year 7 students gained valuable skills through a range of rotational subjects designed to provide practical learning experiences. In Design Solutions, students were introduced to various technologies, including an industrial-sized laser cutter and plastic injection moulder. They followed the design process to create personalized bag tags for their Year 2 peers, combining technical skills with creativity. In Music classes, students deepened their knowledge and skills of musical elements such as dynamics, tempo, timbre, rhythm, and melody. Students played tuned and untuned percussion instruments, performing songs in 2-3 parts. In addition, students learned the Ukulele, with all students performing in small groups for the class at the end of term - a fantastic achievement for our Year 7 musicians! In Art, students engaged with different materials, including clay, to create pinch pottery. This allowed them to respond to artistic stimuli while exploring basic techniques in pottery making. Digital Impact covered the responsible use of technology, with students learning to code Micro:Bits using their iPads. The course emphasized the importance of ethical technology use and introduced students to fundamental coding concepts. These rotational subjects offered Year 7 students a well-rounded education, equipping them with practical skills and fostering an awareness of responsible technology use.

Year 7 Camp From February 12–14, 2024, our Year 7 students, teachers, and chaplains boarded a bus and headed north to Mapleton. The camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to form new friendships and challenge themselves with activities like the Leap of Faith and the Possum Glider. Each night, Chapel was a highlight, with Ps. Ethan and Ps. Jason leading meaningful sessions. Games like Hungry Hippo and staff karaoke created unforgettable memories. House bandanas were a big hit, and we look forward to bringing them back for Year 8 camp in 2025!

Sport Mr Daniel Gilmour Sport Coordinator

King’s Logan Village Sport has had a great year in sport. Students have embraced new challenges and opportunities as we look to the future and prepare our students to achieve great success, whether in a team or as an individual. We have had great team results, with our high school students winning the percentage trophy for CSSAQ Cross Country and some individual success with students representing through the school sport pathway. King’s Logan Village has had the most students represent through the QSS Pathway, with one student representing South Coast and another Representing QLD in their respective sports. This has been a year of growth, perseverance success for sport at Logan Village. All students competed with King’s Values and upheld the culture that will set them up for success in the future. I would like to thank all the staff coaches for their input throughout the year and the parents for their continued support of your children and the school. We are excited for what is to come for King’s Sport at Logan Village.
