KALEIDOSCOPE 2024

"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."

Romans 15:13

Acknowledgements

The creation of each year’s Kaleidoscope is a collaborative effort, made possible by the dedication and talent of many individuals within our college community.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the staff and students who have generously contributed their time and skills to ensure the success of this year's edition. I am especially grateful to our creative and photographic team - Kerry-Ann Morrell, Leanne Ronalds, Regan Verwey, Alex Scott and Wes Tolhurst of Tolhurst Creative - whose vision and expertise have been invaluable.

As you explore the pages of this year’s Kaleidoscope, I invite you to embark on a journey through the many facets of school life that make our time at King’s so unique and special.

With thanks and gratitude,

Early Learning

As I reflect on 2024, I continue to be amazed at what has been accomplished since King’s Christian College started in 1980

Many things have changed over the years, including new campuses, new facilities, new staff members, new education methods and new leadership

What has not changed is the commitment to our mission statement, “Educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow’s generation” What this means is educating from a Christian worldview and focusing on developing the character of our students so they can make a significant contribution to our community

King’s provides our students with many and varied opportunities to grow in character as they journey from our Early Learning Centre through to graduating in Year 12 Our education, sport, Christian living, performing arts, extra-curricular, cultural, leadership and missions programs are all designed to help our students become all God has called them to be

Of course, these programs would not be successful without the commitment and passion of our incredible staff I am continually impressed with their dedication to our students and the genuine care they provide to them

Educating for the Future

Recently I had the opportunity to hear Professor C Brooks from Harvard Business School talk about one of his research areas in leadership — getting happier in an unhappy world

Professor Brooks is a noted speaker and a noted church man His research indicates that rather than working on not being unhappy, that happiness comes from elements of enjoyment, satisfaction and meaning, and these are underpinned by habits associated with faith, family, friends and meaningful work His research is talking about long-term happiness rather than seeking to avoid unhappiness Indeed, he says that much meaning in life springs from things that could be called unhappy, such as hard work, perseverance and forgiveness

We also must give thanks to God for what he is doing in and through King’s There are many bible verses that speak about gratitude and thankfulness, and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 is among my favourites;

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”.

On behalf of the board, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who makes the King’s community so special and take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Christmas season

To him, cultivating good attitudes and habits is what leads to happiness

As a school, we are blessed with our extraordinary staff Good attitudes and habits can be taught, but they are more caught from people we respect We are blessed to have staff who model good attitudes and habits I am so pleased with the accomplishments of our students across our three campuses I would like to thank all our staff for their hard work and wish all families every happiness and success over Christmas and into the New Year

Campus Principal

Our King’s community here at the Pimpama Campus has experienced a thriving year I trust that looking through this Kaleidoscope magazine will bring back fond memories and an immense sense of pride for the wonderful school community that you are intrinsically involved in forming 2024 is a milestone year for our campus, as we had our inaugural Year 12 graduating class prepare for their final assessments, culminating with their graduation dinner This cohort has been given the name, “The Year of the Cornerstone” to recognise their outstanding role in setting out the correct foundation for all the graduating classes who will follow them over the years to come They have truly been a cohort who have contributed positively to moulding and shaping our school culture over the years!

Every day, hundreds of our King’s students reach new personal milestones in their educational journey I applaud the hard work, determination, and resilience demonstrated by these students throughout the year King’s offers a holistic school experience where academics, sporting and cultural activities are all championed through various endeavours I was particularly proud of our primary students on stage at the Annie Jr. musical this year — what an outstanding showcase of our students’ talent and ability on the stage! Our new ovals have been a tremendous asset to our campus and are being used extensively for training, carnivals and gala events These facilities assisted our Year 7 and 8 boys’ rugby league team in winning the Struddy’s Cup Premiership in their debut season!

Thank you to our parents and guardians for entrusting us with the education and wellbeing of your children Your support, involvement, and partnership have been instrumental in ensuring our students’ success I have loved being at our many community events, where the campus is abuzz with families and their children

Our staff are champions — their efforts are focused on ensuring that our students are able to experience a world-class education at King’s as we create a pathway to the future of their lives Our teachers, support staff, administrators, and all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes have demonstrated an unwavering passion King’s staff are willing to go above and beyond in their commitment and dedication to our students, families and their colleagues “THANK YOU” to each and every one!

One of the pillars of our school community is our Christian faith It is vital to thank God for His guidance, grace and favour over the year as we have strived to develop students who honour Him in how they learn, live, love and lead The cross is central to our foundational values, which guide us in growing our students to reach their God-given potential at King’s

Isaiah 28:16 “ the Lord says, “I’m laying a firm foundation It’s a valuable cornerstone proven to be trustworthy; no one who trusts it will ever be disappointed ”

Ephesians 2:20b “ with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone ”

I pray that as we trust the Chief Cornerstone — Jesus — we will never be disappointed and continue to grow in strength as a Christian school community

Chaplaincy

Toast. I love toast. Especially when it’s covered in a good layer of Nutella. The thing is though, toast, or at least the way we make it, is pretty complicated. Just think of all the people and places that helped build your second favourite breakfast appliance (after the coffee machine).

I recently read a story about a man named Tom who tried to make his own toaster completely from scratch with resources from his local area with no help from others. Copper from Wales, mica from a Scottish mountain and iron ore (smelted in his microwave) from a disused mine. The plastic even came from melting down garbage! If we value his time at the average wage plus expenses, Tom’s 100% “do it yourself” toaster cost him $40,000. That’s 5,300 times more expensive than grabbing one from Kmart. Oh, and when he plugged the toaster in, it lasted 5 seconds before melting down.

The lesson? Whether you’re building a toaster or raising a child, it’s always better when you have others around to support, help, and share their skills. There is no such thing as self-made success. We all need others to help us succeed — both in life and in faith.

Like any school, King’s flourishes when people support one another to achieve their full God-given potential. It’s in this space that our incredible chaplaincy team steps in.

In 2024, the chaplaincy team at Pimpama once again had the privilege of providing Spiritual and emotional support to the college in a myriad of ways. Our weekly chapel services are always a highlight as students are engaged with the gospel in contemporary ways. This has been worked out in themes like “The Voice,” looking at how God speaks to us, “I’ve got a friend in Jesus” and “You asked for it” — looking at tough questions of faith that our senior students asked. These led directly into our camp devotions, where we’ve seen hundreds of students make decisions of faith and encounter God in a personal way.

However, chaplaincy has always been far more than just messages on a platform. Throughout 2024, chaplains have supported our students through one-on-one catchups, group programs and sports. We’ve helped new students find their feet, held discipleship programs, prayer meetings and lunchtime activities that help kids make friends and worked with parents who needed support themselves. Chaplaincy has come alongside students to help them thrive in school, in relationships and in faith.

As always, it’s been an absolute honour to support our College community this year as we all work together to raise up Christian leaders for tomorrow’s generation.

Student Wellbeing

We are thrilled to share the incredible achievements of our Student Wellbeing team this year, along with the exciting addition of Rosie, our Wellbeing Dog, who has already made a wonderful impact. Here’s a snapshot of our initiatives:

Primary School Wellbeing Initiatives

Our primary school wellbeing team has spearheaded several impactful programs to support emotional and social development. The Seasons for Growth program helps students navigate change, loss, and grief, fostering resilience. The Drum King’s Program uses rhythmic music to enhance emotional regulation, social connection, and self-esteem. My Life Rulz, developed by David Riddell, provides practical strategies for handling life’s challenges and building self-worth. We also continue with My Zones of Feelings, which aids students in identifying and managing their emotions. Additionally, Body Safety Education ensures every student understands their right to safety and how to protect themselves.

High School Wellbeing Initiatives

Our high school wellbeing team has created a vibrant environment through lunchtime clubs and evidence-based programs. Clubs like Craft Club, Book Club, and HUB Hangouts offer students relaxing spaces to connect and unwind. Programs such as Shine build confidence, Stop Think Go improves decision-making and emotional regulation, and Peacewise teaches conflict resolution. Our Pancake Breakfasts have become a beloved tradition, fostering community and providing a positive start to the day.

Welcoming Rosie

We are excited to introduce Rosie, our Wellbeing Dog, who brings joy and comfort to our community. Her presence has enhanced our wellbeing initiatives, providing additional support and companionship.

These efforts reflect our commitment to a supportive, nurturing environment where every student can thrive. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a safe and inclusive community.

LIFE Program

The mission behind the LIFE program is to develop our students into leaders and cultivate a heart of generosity and compassion within our school community. LIFE aims to do that through fundraising initiatives, serving within the school and serving the wider community. Since the LIFE program launched at the start of the year, we have had over 100 students from our primary and high school join the LIFE team and serve in various ways.

In Term 1, Noah’s Ark and our Primary School did an Easter Egg and food drive to support the town of St George. Collectively, they raised over 1,600 food items, which were given to families in St George over the Easter weekend. High school participated in a Hawaiian dress-up and sausage sizzle, selling drinks and donuts, to fundraise for much-needed school supplies for students at Bali Christian College.

The fundraisers in Term 2 were varied, with Noah’s Ark doing a food drive to support Pimpama Kings Community Care and primary school doing a PJ dress-up day along with a pancake sale to support Scripture Union. The primary school raised significant funds, which was put towards helping chaplains stay planted in local Coomera and Ormeau state schools. Our high school partnered with Gold Coast Youth Service and did a hoodie and track pants drive along with a hoodie and oodie day. Over 250 hoodies and track pants were donated along with grocery and fuel vouchers and phone chargers.

In Term 3, the whole school fundraised for 100% hOPE. We had the Day of Hope, where our students and staff dressed up in blue and pink, purchased donuts and had a 100% hOPE theme chapel. Our primary classes were also buddied up with students from hOPE International Christian School to build relationships with them through a pen pal project. The high school took on the challenge of 100 hours of hOPE — where Kings staff and high school students collectively completed 100 hours of cycling to raise money. The culmination of the event was at the Spring Fair, with our very own Principal making an appearance on the bike.

Key events that our LIFE team served at:

• Kindness pancakes for upper primary

• Lost property monitors

• Sausage sizzle at Bunnings/Easter Fest fundraising for the Arts program

• Teacher appreciation morning tea

• Student baking club

• Active School Travel morning teas

• Baking to go towards fundraising for Island Hoops Fiji Mission Trip

• Connect2Home event

• Year 11 PC breakfasts

I have been encouraged by the way our community has embraced the LIFE program and supported all the fundraisers and other initiatives. 2024 has been an incredible first year and I am expectant for what is to come.

Mission Trips

You don’t know what to expect before you go on the Bali Mission trip, but what you can expect is that it will be worth every single second. This trip to Bali was my first mission trip with other students I didn’t know. Not only did I build connections and friendships with my peers, but I also built connections with the Balinese people that I will always cherish. The mission trip over to Bali was incredibly eye-opening as we saw others who were less fortunate, but their faith in God was still so strong. From building connections in friendship and faith and from doing practical work for the people, the experience was truly unforgettable. I will forever be grateful for being the hands and feet of God for the people over in Bali.

At the end of Term 1, thirty students and six staff went out to St George and, over five days, did various activities and services around the town. Throughout most of the trip, our collective group had worked all together on cleaning a house and were exposed to firsthand the situation that some people struggle through and how our services were enough to change someone’s life. On Sunday, we hosted an Easter Service, where we had amazing speakers in both the adult and kid’s services. The entire trip was an amazing experience. We saw people getting baptised, including one of our own and witnessed the change in the lives of the people at St George. It was such an honour and privilege to be involved in such an amazing trip.

Year 3 Sleepover

Our Year 3 sleepover was a night to remember! Parents and students set up their tents on the oval and kicked off the evening with a delicious dinner. We gathered for a special chapel session centred on the theme of rest, where we reflected on the importance of slowing down, recharging, and finding peace in our busy lives.

Next up was an exciting lineup of activities! Students jumped into dance sessions, showing off their best moves, while others enjoyed building masterpieces with LEGO, playing outdoor games, and participating in a Kahoot challenge that had everyone laughing and competing with enthusiasm. There was something for everyone to enjoy, with plenty of friendly competition and creative play.

The highlight of the night was an outdoor movie screening of Migration, where we all relaxed under the stars. It was a fantastic evening filled with laughter, connection, and memories that will last a lifetime!

Year 4 Camp

Year 3 - 4 Coordinator

Year 4 camp this year was an unforgettable experience for our students, filled with adventure, friendship, and moments of growth. The camp was designed to challenge the students and help them develop new skills, all while reflecting on our theme — courage.

Students took part in a variety of exciting activities. Archery proved to be a favourite as they learned to aim with precision, focus, and patience. The bush skills sessions taught them essential survival techniques, while the bushwalk allowed them to explore the beauty of nature up close, discovering the wonders of God’s creation along the way.

One of the highlights was the Wilderness Explorers program, which engaged the students in hands-on learning about the environment and how to navigate through the wild. The adventurous among us took on the Glider Possum, soaring through the trees, and conquered the climbing wall, both activities requiring the students to face their fears and demonstrate real courage.

In the evenings, we gathered for night devotions, where we came together to praise Jesus, study His Word, and reflect on the day’s experiences. Each devotion connected back to our theme of courage, reminding the students of the bravery it takes to follow God’s path in all areas of life.

Year 4 camp was more than just a few days away from school. It was a time of personal and spiritual growth, a time to step out of comfort zones, and a time to experience the beauty of friendship and the power of faith. We are proud of our Year 4 students and the courage they showed, and we look forward to watching how this experience prepares them for their next adventure at King’s.

Year 5 Camp

Year 5-6

The Year 5 students recently embarked on an exciting adventure at Camp Goodenough, filled with team-building activities, personal growth, and unforgettable memories. In the beautiful natural surroundings of the camp, the students were encouraged to challenge themselves, step out of their comfort zones, and develop their leadership skills.

The Leap of Faith activity saw children conquering fears and embracing their bravery as their peers cheered them on. Atop a large pole, students jumped off, trusting their fellow students would keep them safe as they took the heart-stopping plunge.

Collaborative skills were put to the test during the Team Pursuits activities. Divided into teams, students navigated a series of challenges demanding effective communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.

The obstacle course, a maze of challenges, represented the difficulties life can present. Students crawled through tunnels, balanced on beams, and crossed nets, all while learning the value of perseverance and challenging them not just physically but mentally. The high ropes activity pushed students to confront their fears of heights and trust in their capabilities.

Finally, the crate stack activity added an element of fun competition while still emphasising collaboration. Students worked together to stack crates using collaboration and skilled balance. The highest getting to an impressive 16.5 crates high — Lucas Fleming!

The nightly devotions, a cherished tradition at every King’s camp, focused on the parable of the loaves and fish. Students learned how Jesus used a young boy’s small offering to perform a remarkable miracle, feeding thousands. This powerful story reinforced the message that even the smallest acts of faith and service can make a profound impact when offered in devotion to Jesus, no matter the age.

Camp Goodenough was more than just a camp; it was a testament to God’s constant presence and faithfulness. The experiences there helped equip these young learners with the courage and determination to face life’s challenges. As they prepare for leadership next year, the lessons learned will guide them in stepping up with resilience, faith, and a spirit of service, ready to lead with confidence and integrity.

Year 6 Camp

Year 5-6 Coordinator

The Year 6 Cairns trip is always a much-anticipated highlight for students, truly a “bucket list” experience packed with adventure, learning, and growth. Each day, the students dove headfirst into activities that stretched their limits and took them out of their comfort zones.

The visits to the Cairns Aquarium and the Artillery Museum left the children in awe, from marvelling at large sharks to exploring massive tanks and historical weaponry.

The group ventured into the lush rainforest at Rainforestation, where students unleashed their creativity by painting boomerangs, riding in army ducks through the wilderness, and participating in a Pamagirri dance show. The day ended with a scenic ride on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, offering breathtaking views of the rainforest.

Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure immersed the students in the world of wildlife. They took a boat ride to observe crocodiles up close and witnessed an exciting feeding demonstration.

A full day was dedicated to snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. After gearing up, students rotated through a series of activities. They explored the reef from above on a glass-bottom boat and experienced a close-up look at marine biology in the on-board laboratory. But the highlight was diving into the ocean, swimming with vibrant fish and a graceful sea turtle — a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Amid all the excitement, the evenings were equally significant. Each night, the students gathered for devotions, focusing on spiritual growth. Through messages and small group discussions, they reflected on shedding negative labels and uncovering key defining moments. These sessions deepened their connection to God and one another, forging bonds that will last beyond the trip.

This Cairns adventure was filled with proud moments — there was no shortage of laughter and unforgettable memories. The trip wasn’t just about thrilling activities, but also about building resilience, leadership, and faith as the students prepared for the challenges of the years ahead, stepping confidently into High School.

Year 7 Camp

Mr Eugene Olivier & Mrs Lorien Van Staden

Year 7 Coordinators

Our Year 7 students had an incredible time on a beautiful 220-acre bushland site in Redland Bay from 28 April to 1 May 2024 at PGL Kindilan. The Year 7 Camp was an opportunity to share time with the students in their ongoing emotional, social, and spiritual development. We were truly blessed to have had the opportunity to spend this focused time with the students.

The students were involved in numerous activities and were challenged to climb, swing, leap and problem-solve their way out of their comfort zones! Some activities included canoeing, raft building, archery, flying fox, giant swing, the leap of faith, quick jump and team building activities. The weather was great, and the students were able to get to know each other better in a completely different environment.

Devotions with the theme “Find Your Feet” received encouraging feedback, and many students experienced growth in their faith. Pastor Dylan Grieve and his team contributed greatly to all realising that with God’s help, we are moving in the right direction and becoming motivated to achieve our goals.

We, as a team, are grateful for the opportunity to play a role in the education of these Year 7 students.

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:13

Year 8 Camp

During week seven of Term 1, Year 8 students left on the Monday morning for their annual camp and headed for Mapleton.

We were blessed with rain beyond belief throughout the entire three days. Students enjoyed a wide variety of activities, which saw them grow in confidence over the three days.

They engaged in an incredible time of praise and worship in the evening sessions, where God’s spirit moved amongst the group. Despite the weather, the students had an incredible time doing a crate climb, rock climbing, risking all on the giant swing and canoeing.

An amazing time was had by all.

Year 9 Camp

This trip to Melbourne was a life-changing experience, from the activities to the bonds created over the four days. My favourite part was the devotions; the preaches were very enriching and helped me broaden my knowledge and trust in my walk with Jesus. The flights were a great opportunity to get to know the people sitting next to me, as we were together for more than an hour and a half. When we went to the markets, there was a lot of money spent even though we had only been in Melbourne for just about four hours, but it gave us a look at Melbourne’s broad food culture and set up a very good view of what the rest of trip would look like.

Our visit to the Skydeck sent us on an 11-minute VR journey around Melbourne’s major hotspots before they took us 89 stories above ground and put us in a room that extended three metres off the side of the building — very scary stuff. After the Skydeck, we walked to the National Gallery of Victoria to explore the history of Australia from both the British and Aboriginal perspectives through artists and their artwork from those backgrounds. This explained Australia’s history in a new and diverse way that explained a lot more than what the textbooks do.

On our next day, we journeyed to the Shrine of Remembrance; the overcast and rainy day really set the mood for the things that were shared and told in the war memorial. It was an amazing opportunity to honour the sacrifices made in the World Wars and other conflicts around the world. Also, they had real artifacts and equipment that we were able to try on and to have to carry those backpacks and wear those helmets across a room; I can’t even imagine what the soldiers had to go through carrying that equipment for miles and most of the time under heavy fire.

Our final day consisted of a lovely bus ride to St Kilda Beach, which allowed us to briefly enjoy the seaside ambience and a quick Maccas pitstop before going to our final activity — the Holocaust Museum. Although the topics that were discussed were as serious as you could get, seeing Judy (who was the Holocaust Survivor we got to talk to) smile and laugh even though the reason she was there was so sad and traumatic taught me that forgiveness is possible in any circumstance no matter the severity.

On behalf of Year 9, I would like to thank the teachers, tour guides, bus drivers, and all the people behind the scenes who invested their time in making this trip as interesting and fun as it was.

Arik Mosterd - Year 9 student

Photo Competition

We ran a photo competition with the students to see who could take the best photo that represented our trip away. The entries were stunning, but the overall winners were Tahlia Avgerinos (bottom left) and Kayleigh Erasmus (bottom right).

Year 10 Camp

In Term 3, the Year 10 cohort went on their camp to Alexandra Park on the Sunshine Coast. At this camp, we were able to open our eyes with an opportunity to understand our peers more deeply. What I mostly took away from this camp is that to connect with people, you need to put yourself out there, and I think we can all say with certainty we put ourselves out there, whether it be jumping off an 8-metre high pole or stepping forward to be prayed for at worship. At this camp, we were given the opportunity to learn through our cohort — to learn through one another strengths, learn each other’s fears, and achieve what seemed impossible. I was able to strengthen relationships with people, build entirely new friendships with my peers and even strengthen my connection with my teachers. This camp allowed us to step out of our comfort zone in a safe place to form relationships and make memories. I know for certain that our dance battle between students and teachers would not have been as much fun if we didn’t allow ourselves to connect with new people, that we don’t necessarily get the chance to in day-to-day classes.

Elliott Reed - Year 10 student

It’s been talked about a lot this year, in chapel, devotions and even at this very camp, that being surrounded by people who share a love for God can leave us feeling safe; we have such a lovely community here at King’s. This camp gave us the opportunity to cross that line into a place outside of our usual boundaries. I know that so many people were absolutely terrified of the activities where we had to put pretty much all of our trust in our peers to keep us safe. I think the hardest part for me was trusting my friends, especially those who I’m not close with, to keep me secure and safe. I was mostly nervous about the sugar glider because it meant I had to put so much trust in my teammates to do the right thing — the right thing being to actually do what I asked. On my first turn, I was terrified that they’d lift me up too fast or fling me over the rope at the top (which apparently can happen), so I asked my team to walk rather than run. I remember being so shocked when they actually did what I asked. Not necessarily because I didn’t think they would, but because I realised how much trust I could put in a group of people I was hardly close with. And I realised it was all because of God.

This activity, along with many others, helped me understand that, at King’s, although being surrounded by students and teachers who worship God can help us to learn to trust the people who surround us, knowing they and us follow the Word of God all the same. No matter our differences, our friend groups, or our interests, we can trust each other because we trust God.

Ruby Brissett - Year 10 student

Year 11 Camp

The Year 11 camp, inspired by the Survivor series, provided an exciting and memorable experience for all. The camp challenges were a hit, with Year 11 students becoming more engaged as the activities progressed. Naomi Sweeney particularly enjoyed the 4-man tug of war, which sparked enthusiastic support from everyone, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie.

The survivor-themed challenges were centred around belonging and teamwork. Tribal competitions were a highlight, with students not only competing but also supporting one another, regardless of house affiliations. Tyndale House ultimately secured the most points, adding to the excitement. Mr Coles was commended for organising the games and ensuring full participation, encouraging students to back their teammates. Activities like the three-legged “rob the nest” game were particularly effective in building new relationships and improving communication among students who might not typically interact.

The survivor games were more than just fun — they played a pivotal role in helping the students grow closer, strengthening bonds within the group, and creating a lasting sense of unity.

The camp devotions were another highlight, creating a peaceful and uplifting environment where the entire grade came together in worship and prayer. These moments fostered unity and reconciliation, bridging past divisions. The most significant moment for Naomi was when she witnessed her friends praying for each other, sparking noticeable transformations among the group. Since returning to school, the emphasis on unity continues to influence the year group positively.

Testimonies from students illustrate the powerful impact of the camp devotions:

• Aldo shared how worship brought everyone closer, leading to heartfelt prayers for friends.

• Maddie appreciated Lani’s message, which helped students release their burdens and overcome struggles.

• Meg found inspiration in the first night’s message, especially for the girls.

• Miles was moved by the call to stand out from the world, even when faced with challenges.

• Cordell valued the unity experienced during worship, where everyone came together in a shared moment of connection.

Overall, the Year 11 camp was a transformative experience, strengthening bonds and instilling a renewed sense of unity among the students.

Year 12 Camp

Our Year 12 camp at Lake Ainsworth, NSW, was an unforgettable experience. From the start, excitement was high as we formed teams, the Sharks, Dugongs, and Whales. Later renamed the Turtles, thanks to Serana’s creative idea. Each day was packed with activities like paddleboarding, waterbed challenges, sailing, rock climbing, and archery. Evenings offered free time, with a memorable first night spent relaxing and chatting on the beach. The staff closed each day with meaningful devotions, fostering reflection and connection.

Mornings began with stunning sunrise beach walks, followed by breakfast. A highlight was the “garbage bag formal,” where we created outfits from trash bags and paired up for dinner with our allocated partner for the evening. It sparked new conversations and brought our cohort closer. The night featured creative entrance walks, dance circles, Q&As, and awards like “Best Couple” and “Best Dressed.”

Reflecting on the camp, it was a truly remarkable experience that provided us with the chance to deepen friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime. The energy, enthusiasm, and participation from everyone made it a resounding success. Although it’s bittersweet to realise this marks the end of our school camp journey, we are grateful to have ended on such a high note. This camp will forever symbolise the bond, growth, and shared joy of our time together. As we move forward, we carry these cherished memories and the deep bonds formed during this special adventure, knowing they will remain a part of us always.

Finney

What a remarkable year it has been for Finney House! This year’s joyous culture was carried throughout all competitions and aspects of school life. As a house, we have not only strived for excellence but achieved it, winning both the Athletics and Cross-Country Carnivals and finishing with a close second at the Swimming Carnival. Students and staff have gone above and beyond in engaging and committing themselves to the King’s Christian College culture, encouraging and supporting peers, volunteering in events, pursuing academic goals, fund-raisers and extracurriculars. Finney is more than just a team seeking a trophy; it is a family filled with joy, strength, perseverance and integrity, where students feel safe to express themselves through their God-given potential. As the captains of Finney, we couldn’t be more grateful to be surrounded by such inspiring company.

We appreciate all our Finney peers, staff and our Head of House for taking part in something truly extraordinary, and their efforts are reflected in our incredible achievements. Above all, we thank God for such an amazing year.

Newton

This year has been a year full of success and triumph. Our winning performance at the swimming carnival highlighted the dedication and skill of our athletes, propelling us to victory. The high level of participation was evident and continued in the cross-country and athletics, where we achieved second place, once again highlighting the collective effort and determination of our members. Beyond sports, our house has also excelled academically, demonstrating a high level of achievement in their studies. The culture of Newton has been further reinforced by our regular house meetings every Thursday, where we come together to socialise, support one another, and foster a strong sense of community. While our PC devotions are run by students, it is a trusted and well-supported environment. Additionally, the PC vs PC volleyball competition has been a fantastic opportunity for friendly rivalry and team bonding, further strengthening our house spirit. Overall, this year has been an incredible year for Newton, both in our success and our culture.

Rayleigh

As the captains of Rayleigh, we can proudly say that 2024 has been a transformative year for our house. When we took on our roles, our primary goal was to shift the house’s dynamic from a place of introversion and negativity to one filled with enthusiasm and pride. This year, we witnessed a remarkable evolution. By the end of 2024, the spirit of Rayleigh had changed significantly. Our house members embraced a new sense of unity and determination, especially during key events and competitions.

One standout moment was introducing our new war cry at the Athletics Carnival. The collective energy and pride we saw from everyone when we won the war cry competition was a highlight of the year and a clear sign of our progress. In terms of performance, Rayleigh placed 4th overall for the three sports carnivals, however, our athletes excelled across various events as a team and individually. We had seven students recognised as Age Champions in athletics, nine in cross country, and seven in swimming. Our cross country team impressed with five boys finishing in the top ten for Open Boys and standout performances from Junsei Esaka and Ananya Kumthekar, placing 2nd in their last cross country carnival.

Rayleigh has had a year of sporting and academic achievements. Academically, we celebrated over 30 students who received Academic Honors for Semester 1 and just as many for Semester 2. highlighted our year. Jasmin Visser made us proud with her participation in the SSA Diving Championships in Adelaide. Maddie Davis and Lily Anstis showcased their creativity by designing the Year 9 Melbourne Tour logo.

As we reflect on 2024, we are excited about the future and encourage everyone to stay engaged and supportive in all upcoming events. Rayleigh truly saw a shift and as Year 12 leave, we hope the culture continues to grow. Here’s to building on our achievements and striving for even greater success and participation in the years to come.

Tyndale

As the Tyndale House Captains, we couldn’t be prouder of our incredible achievements this year. Coming second in cross country was a significant accomplishment, showcasing the dedication and perseverance of every member of our house. Our war cry was phenomenal, earning us first place and demonstrating our unity and spirit.

Our Christian values have been the foundation of our journey, particularly evident in our pastoral care classes, where we’ve grown not just as students, but as a family. Tyndale Thursdays have become a cherished tradition, bringing us all together to play games, compete, and foster camaraderie. Each PC class has had the opportunity to lead a session, allowing us to celebrate our talents and deepen our connections.

Beyond sports, we’ve excelled in academics, music, arts, culture, and service, showing the true breadth of Tyndale’s strengths. This year, we’ve seen remarkable growth, not just in achievements but in the bonds we share as a house. As we continue to grow stronger and more competitive each year, I’m confident that Tyndale will keep shining brightly in all we do.

Here’s to a year of amazing memories and even greater successes ahead!

Library

Our Pimpama senior and junior school libraries provide vital spaces to enhance student learning outcomes and wellbeing by providing a range of programs, services and resources which support teaching and learning. At its core, our libraries support and encourage students’ reading experiences and provide a place of refuge where imagination and mindfulness are valued.

When planning our library lessons and regular yearly library events, we endeavour to keep our students at the heart of all that we do. This year, students have enjoyed library events such as Library Lovers Week, World Book Day, National Simultaneous Storytime, Library and Information Week, Science Week, Book Week, Australian School Library Day, The Premier’s Reading Challenge and Creative By Design.

With an extensive collection of physical reading materials and digital resources available to our Prep to Year 12 students, we aim to inspire students to be engaged readers who have the capability and inclination to read and learn beyond their years at school.

Our wonderful library team — Mrs Greenway, Mrs Benson, Mrs Brooker, Mrs Forbes, Mrs Mansfield and Mrs Meyer — strive to make our libraries welcoming places for all students each school day. Thank you for allowing our library staff to take this very special reading and learning journey with your children.

Happy Reading!

Cheer

Mrs Hannah Blaxland

King’s Cheer Director

WOW, what a year King’s Cheer has had! A year full of fun, fitness and friendship! We strive to provide a fun, safe and engaging program that runs at both Pimpama and Reedy Creek campuses. This year, I had the privilege of continuing to grow this program with the vision of helping students learn new skills and engage with teammates to work together. Our athletes have worked so hard to develop impressive routines and have learnt many new Cheer skills. Congratulations!

In 2023, we competed at Aussie Gold International, receiving two 1st places, two 2nd places and a third place. We also competed in the AASCF State Competition, with our older teams coming away with 1st place Jaguars - Upper Primary Level 2, 1st Place Cheetahs - High School Level 2 and Scholastic Grand Champions, 1st place Comets and 2nd place Panthers. Our largest competition this year was the AASCF National Championships, hosted in Melbourne. Pimpama Comets and High School Cheetahs were awarded 4th place in Australia, and Reedy Creek Jaguars won 1st place in the Scholastic Primary level 2 championship.

King’s Cheer yet again has the leadership of an amazing coaching team, including Mrs Annalise Carroll, Miss Hayley Masters, Miss Danae Willis, Miss Emily Swinbourne, Miss Sacha Acworth, Miss Zara Triemstra and our enthusiastic junior coaches Emilei Jacovides, Lily Petherick, Erin Dallinger, Emily Payne, Sofia Payne, Ella Beard, Tijana Mink Niemeijer and Sienna Mower. Thank you, coaches, for your love of our athletes and dedication to

our King’s Cheer community.

We pray that all students have had a wonderful year at Cheer and that our end-of-year competitions and awards are a huge success in celebrating our athletes.

Chess

Mr Daniel Lapitan Chess

This year has been outstanding for King’s chess at Pimpama, with more students participating and sharpening their chess skills. In Term 1’s A Division, Patrick Heran scored an impressive 5 out of 7 points, with Dan Kim close behind at 4.5 points. Special recognition goes to Ben Reilly, Byson Russell, and Bentley Fitzgerald, each earning 4 points.

In the B Division, Asher Lum Kon and Alvin Sahayam both achieved 6 out of 7 points, securing 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. Oscar Svenson also performed strongly with 5.5 points, finishing in 5th place. Special mentions go to Gunoor Hans, Yuvaan Koshti, Jesse Matthew, and Micah Basset, each scoring 5 points.

In the C Division, Fletcher Wormald led with 6 out of 7 points, followed by Nathaniel Avgerinos with 5.5 points, securing 3rd and 4th places. In the D Division, Jun Park scored 6 points, and Jediah Mabus earned 5.5 points, securing 2nd and 4th places, respectively.

In Term 2, our consistent performance qualified us for the Gold Coast Primary Finals, where teams will compete for a spot in the Queensland Inter-School State Finals.

Reflecting on the year, I’m incredibly proud to see each student’s growth and the development of their chess skills.

Early Learning

A Year of Growth and Resilience at Noah’s Ark

As we look back on the year at Noah’s Ark, we are filled with gratitude. This year has been a testament to the strength and support of our amazing King’s community, the dedication of our staff, and the resilience of our families.

The year started with an unexpected challenge when our centre was flooded. The overwhelming support from our community during this difficult time was heartwarming. During the reconstruction, we made significant improvements to our centre. Classrooms were opened up with glass sliding doors, creating shared open spaces that have greatly benefited our children’s learning and play experiences. Once we reopened, it was a joy to welcome back our families. We greeted old friends and got to know new ones, who quickly became like family to us.

Term 1 saw us hitting the ground running. We celebrated Harmony Week, fostering inclusivity and understanding among our diverse community. Easter Fest was a highlight, with our students creating a delightful Jesus jellybean tree. Outback Dress Up Day and our Easter egg donation drive for families in need in the St George community brought smiles to many faces.

In Term 2, we celebrated our mothers with a beautiful Mother’s Day afternoon. Multi-Cultural Week was another standout event, where we enjoyed cultural dances, dress-ups, and food from around the world. It was an enriching experience learning about the diverse backgrounds of our families.

Term 3 was particularly busy and exciting. Our Pre Prep Sports Morning coincided with the Paris Olympic Games, and our little athletes shone brightly, with the shopping relay being a crowd favourite. Science Week featured an incursion from the team at Street Science, sparking curiosity among our children. Book Week was a hit, and joining the Primary School to raise funds for 100% Hope in Uganda through our blue and pink dressup day was a heartwarming experience. We also hosted a Father’s Evening to celebrate our dads, creating special memories and strengthening bonds. Additionally, we took the time to honour our incredible educators during Early Childhood Educators Day, recognising their tireless efforts and dedication.

In Term 4, we honoured our grandparents, recognising the special role they play in our children’s lives. We also held a significant event, the Lion Crossing, to symbolise our Pre Prep children transitioning to Primary School, marking a major milestone in their educational journey. The term ended on a high note with our adorable Christmas concert, where our little ones showcased their singing talents, spreading joy and festive cheer.

As we reflect on this remarkable year, we are deeply thankful for the support of our parents and families. A special thank you goes to our

outstanding staff, whose love and patience make Noah’s Ark a nurturing and joyful place for our children. Together, we have turned challenges into opportunities and celebrated countless moments of joy and learning. Here’s to another year of growth, resilience, and community at Noah’s Ark!

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.

Bandicoots

The Bandicoots have had a wonderful year. The year started a little different with our flood, but we opened a wonderful new centre. We started the year by helping our children build friendships and supporting them in their new environment. The children have engaged and explored many learning areas throughout 2024. As we conclude another exciting school year, we are delighted to share some of our memorable experiences and achievements.

Our classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students explored topics like dinosaurs and insects. The dinosaur project was a hit, with students creating vibrant dinosaur models and learning fascinating facts about these ancient creatures. Our insect study involved observing bugs in their natural habitats and creating detailed insect collages using a mix of paste, paper, and creativity. The children also showed an interest in emergency services, particularly hospitals and vets. The children loved pretending to be doctors and vets. They practiced their caring skills for the injured people and animals.

Our students have made remarkable strides in their creative and academic skills. They enjoyed hands-on activities that combined learning with fun, such as printing letters and numbers, creating colourful collages, and exploring various art mediums. These activities helped enhance their fine motor skills and fostered a love for art and learning.

This year, we’ve noticed a surge in students’ interest in cars, leading to impromptu discussions and projects about car design and mechanics. This interest was supported by our school’s emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, which encourages curiosity and problem-solving skills.

As we look forward to another exciting year, we want to thank our families and community partners for their continued support. Together, we have created a nurturing and inspiring environment for our students to thrive.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable summer!

Wallabies

Venter

This year began with a blessing and a sense of renewal, symbolised by a rainbow — a promise of the wonderful times ahead. Our Wallabies classroom welcomed 23 young pre-kindies, each bringing unique personalities and stories. While some children were confident from the start, others took time to explore and find their place. It has been a joy for myself, Mrs Tubale, and Mrs Solomon to witness their growth throughout the year.

Our Wallabies love talking about Jesus. They know “Jesus loves me, and I love Him,” and that “Amen” means “So it will be.” This phrase guided us through every devotion and prayer, filling our days with love, joy, and hope. The kindness, sharing, and caring in our classroom have been a testament to the Holy Spirit’s presence. Sensory play was a daily favourite, sparking curiosity and exploration. The children cherished playing with the dollhouse, spending time in the cubby corner, and exploring the emotions corner. They also enjoyed building with blocks, playing with play dough, bug hunting, sandpit adventures, and singing the days of the week songs. Show and Tell was always exciting, and baking days were special treats. Our messy art room allowed for endless creativity, and we didn’t mind getting dirty.

We also celebrated many special events throughout the year. For Easter, we made a jellybean prayer, blending sweetness with spirituality. On ANZAC Day, we crafted a wreath with red poppies to honour and remember. Mother’s Day saw us welcoming mummies with open hearts, and our Spring Fair was a lively event filled with fun. We celebrated Father’s Day, cherished Grandparents Day, and ended the year with a festive Christmas concert where all the kindy children sang together.

There was never a dull moment! Each day with these lovely children warmed our hearts, and we’ve grown close to each child and their families, who will forever be a part of our hearts.

Emus

What a wonderful year we have had in the Emus class! We began the year by supporting the children in making new friendships, building strong relationships with their educators and becoming familiar with their new surroundings.

This year, the children’s diverse interests have created enriched learning experiences — experimenting with colour mixing, painting with different textiles, wooden block constructions, home corner role-play, developing drawing skills, show and tell, challenging obstacle courses and learning about our wonderful environment. It has been amazing to see their fine motor development flourish over the year as they become confident with writing their name and pre-writing skills.

It has been our privilege to get to know these amazing young people, who have grown so much and matured this year. We pray for God’s richest blessing on their lives as they continue their learning journey next year.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Kookaburras

It has been our greatest joy to guide your children through the vibrant journey of Kookaburra Pre Prep this year. We are truly honoured that you entrusted us with the privilege of crafting a learning environment that nurtures each child’s unique strengths and interests.

This year began with the theme ‘All About Me,’ focusing on self-discovery, making and being a friend, and understanding emotions. Our goal was to help the children learn essential social skills such as sharing, respect, kindness, and teamwork — all while encouraging them to try their best and embrace new challenges.

Every morning, the children eagerly anticipate ‘Praise and Worship,’ choosing songs to sing and dance to. Their growing understanding of Bible stories and their experiences in prayer have shown them that Jesus is a loving friend who is always there for them. They now understand the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.

Our curriculum was enriched through diverse, play-based learning experiences. From imaginative play to art, science experiments to outdoor adventures, each activity was designed to foster curiosity and enthusiasm. We explored a wide range of topics, including family, community, hygiene, safety, and various celebrations such as Multicultural Week, Easter, ANZAC Day, and more. The children enjoyed discovering the wonders of space, dinosaurs, and insects, while also learning about healthy eating, recycling, and caring for our environment.

Special events like the sports carnival, dress-up days, and visits to different Prep rooms provided additional excitement and learning opportunities. The children also had the chance to participate in electives such as soccer, ballet, jazz, cheer, and hip-hop, which added to their overall experience.

As we reflect on this remarkable year, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for your support and partnership. We pray for your continued success and remind you that you are never alone — Jesus is always with you.

Lorikeets

The Pre Prep year is all about creating a nurturing space where children feel comfortable and autonomous in their learning journey. It’s a safe haven where making mistakes is not just acceptable but encouraged, as this is where true learning begins. We’ve seen our children embrace various challenging tasks with enthusiasm, and their persistence and growth have filled us with immense pride and wonder.

This year has been filled with countless fun adventures and learning experiences. We’ve focused on fostering friendships and supporting each child’s social and emotional well-being. We’ve provided numerous opportunities for gross motor development, including balancing, jumping, and climbing, as well as fine motor development through activities like cutting, pasting, and drawing.

The children have delighted in engaging in activities across numeracy, literacy, sustainability, culture, music, and movement. A standout favourite has been the science experiments, which have ignited their natural curiosity and love for learning. Our personal highlight has been watching their imaginations flourish through creative role-play. All these experiences have laid a strong foundation for a successful transition to Prep.

It has been a true privilege to teach and witness your children’s growth this year. We are excited for their future and look forward to seeing the wonderful plans that lie ahead for them. As we reflect on Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), we find comfort and inspiration in knowing, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Warmest wishes for a bright and promising future!

Pelicans

Maree Vallance

What an amazing year we have had with our little Pelican friends! I have felt truly blessed to have been a part of each of their journeys in gaining independence and confidence and in watching them grow and develop in so many ways. 2024 started off with its challenges for us all, but with God’s grace, we have made it through!

We began each day with songs, bible stories and prayer. This year, we have enjoyed weekly music lessons with Mrs Reddrop, loved listening to stories, explored a range of God’s amazing creatures (especially insects), learnt about healthy eating and our senses, looked at our feelings, cooked and tasted many creations, enjoyed role play, sensory play and even learned some sign language. We have also been engaged in special activities –such as Multicultural Week, Book Week, Sports Day and Science Week. We practised our fine motor skills by writing our names, using scissors, completing puzzles, and doing lots of craft activities. We have developed our gross motor skills during outdoor play with a range of construction opportunities, in the sandpit, on the bikes and obstacle courses. We have also gained confidence sharing during “Show and Share” opportunities and when we share our adventures with our class Pelican when she visits our homes!

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Mrs Tayla Jeffery for her support and amazing assistance - the Pelicans classroom would not run as smoothly without her tireless efforts and dedication to the children!

I believe I have been truly blessed to have been a part of such an amazing, supportive and caring community as Noah’s Ark and to have been given the opportunity to play a small part in the lives of each one of our little Pelican children that God placed in my care this year. I wish each Pelican friend God’s blessings on them as they continue their learning journey in 2025!

Primary

Our overarching mission remains clear: to educate students in Christian leadership for tomorrow’s generation. As we celebrate our ongoing journey, the Pimpama Campus stands as a thriving beacon of Christian leadership on the northern Gold Coast, guided by God’s grace and the legacy of those who have paved the way.

Over the past nine years, we have been deeply involved in the growth of our local community and have been privileged to offer Christian education to numerous families. Our theme for the year has been the Pursuit of Excellence. Our collective efforts have led to significant progress in curriculum development, high achievement in performing arts and sporting excellence.

Our school continues to grow, with over 1000 students in Prep to Year 6 and five classes in each grade level. It is always heartening to welcome many new families into our King’s community. We are profoundly grateful to our wonderful staff in all areas of our school. Each member plays an integral role in making King’s Pimpama a unique and special place — a true family in every sense.

One of the highlights of 2024 was the performances of our first Primary musical, Annie Jnr. I cannot begin to express how proud I am of our cast and crew, led by Mrs Renee Sanson, who made this magnificent dream a reality! Another highlight in 2024 was the Olympic Games, held in Paris. It was an opportunity for our students to be inspired by our nation’s best athletes and a chance to remind ourselves that God encourages us all to ‘run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith’.

We know and are persuaded that He has gone before us and prepared a wonderful year of growth, learning, community and increase as we look to Him this year and beyond to meet our needs. He is a good Father and will ‘coach’ us through any challenge or circumstance, leading us to victory through His dear Son. As spiritual ‘athletes’, I pray that each and every one of our King’s kids achieve their personal best this year whilst also looking out for and cheering others in the King’s community.

As we look forward to 2025 and beyond, we trust that our future is in His hands and that His plans for us are beyond our imagination. Thank you for your unwavering support and prayers throughout the year. I am excited about our continued journey together and the opportunities that lie ahead.

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:1-2

College Culture

Describing the culture of a college involves looking beyond its physical attributes to the intangible elements that define it. It’s not only the academics or the high standards we strive for at King’s; it’s fundamentally about the people and the way we interact, uphold the Foundational Values, and create a sense of community. Culture is reflected in the pursuit of excellence and in the genuine care for one another that truly encapsulates King’s Pimpama. Ultimately, it’s the people who breathe life into a culture, making it vibrant and dynamic.

This year, exciting initiatives have impacted every student and staff member’s experience at our school. With service opportunities in the LIFE program and initiatives like the Kindness Squad, new avenues have opened for our students to serve and connect with broader communities. Our partnership with the City of Gold Coast’s Active School Travel program has encouraged healthy travel habits, promoting physical well-being and environmental stewardship among our students. Students have embraced every opportunity to glorify God through their gifts and talents, with staff championing them at every level.

Together, we continued fostering a thriving Christian environment where every student feels a profound sense of belonging. Psalm 133 describes a community, much like King’s Pimpama, where unity is visible and tangible, where God commands a blessing. It is our prayer that every member of our community will pursue this unity and blessing as we walk the journey of ‘Educating Students in Christian Leadership for Tomorrow’s Generation’, today.

As 2024 draws to a close, we thank all our parents, staff, and students for your dedicated engagement and support throughout this year. We are deeply grateful for each of you and the unique role you play in making our community extraordinary.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

Psalm 133:1

In 2024, our Prep students began a thrilling new chapter as they stepped into their first year of primary school. Each classroom has been filled with happiness, learning, and creativity throughout the year. Parents and guardians should take pride in the outstanding growth, effort, and courage our students have shown.

This year has been packed with memorable experiences! On their first day, the Preps posed for photos with ‘Aslan the Lion’ and had a delightful picnic with their new King’s teddies. Term 2 brought excitement with a visit from Ocean Life Education, where students could handle real marine animals. In Term 3, we celebrated 100 days of school with their teddies, marking the occasion with enthusiasm. We also went on a fantastic trip to Paradise Country, which brought our Integrated Studies unit to life. The year has been filled with moments that will be remembered fondly for years! Term 4 sparked curiosity in our young scientists as they donned lab coats and explored the fascinating world of motion. Through hands-on experiments, they discovered the mechanics of movement and developed their investigative skills.

Our incredible students have formed lasting friendships and grown closer to Jesus. They eagerly look forward to our weekly chapel services, which are a highlight for both students and staff. Witnessing their sincere worship and spiritual growth brings us immense joy.

As our Prep students move forward in their educational journey, we are confident that the foundational values we focused on this year — Courage, Compassion, Perseverance, and Self-Control — have set them up well for their development in today’s busy world. The Term 1 scripture, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ (Philippians 4:13), has been a cornerstone of their year.

2024 has been a wonderful journey, and the Prep team extends their heartfelt gratitude to our wonderful Prep families for their invaluable support. We pray that God continues to guide and nurture this exceptional group of students as they continue their learning adventures.

Year 1

Mrs Courtney Legge Lead Teacher

In 2024, our Year 1 students have continued to excel in their King’s journey, deepening their friendships, explorations, and understanding of our Foundational Values. Each term has presented new opportunities for learning through thought-provoking questions and engaging investigations.

Term 1 focused on growth and change over time. Students shared glimpses of their personal worlds through memory boxes filled with photos and favourite items, enriching their understanding of each other.

In Term 2, investigations centred on how materials can be transformed for various uses. A notable highlight was the excursion to the Brisbane Science Museum, where students explored and created in the Maker Space.

Term 3 arrived swiftly, bringing a transformation of the Year 1 building into a vibrant Tiny Town! Students enjoyed dramatic play, designing their own Tiny Town, and reflecting on their identity through Creative by Design, exploring how they are seen and loved by God. This term also featured a silent disco, King’s Has Talent, and our annual colour run, which were major highlights.

Term 4 was an adventure into the natural world as students studied animals, plants, and habitats. They conducted research on various animals, presented their findings, and enjoyed a memorable visit to Currumbin, where they interacted with some furry friends.

As we reflect on another remarkable year, the Year 1 team extends heartfelt thanks to the families for their invaluable support. We pray that God continues to guide and inspire this exceptional group of students on their learning journey.

Year 2

2024: A Year of Faithfulness for Year 2 Students

2024 has been a year of faithfulness for our Year 2 students. Led by Mrs Hoatson, Ms Pickering, Ms Hankinson, Mrs Smart, and Mrs Blazicevic, we have become a Family in Christ, enabling us to level up in all aspects of learning and wellbeing.

Our foundational values have taken on a deeper meaning for our Year 2 students in 2024. They have stepped up to extend their leadership skills by actively presenting at our year-level assemblies, where they have modelled the leadership characteristics: Learn Passionately, Live Purposefully, Love Faithfully, and Lead Diligently. It has been wonderful to witness these Christian character traits become evident in everyday interactions in our classrooms and the playground.

Highlights of our rich Year 2 curriculum included learning about the unique features of minibeasts, understanding the importance of water as a precious resource, creating a push-pull toy, and exploring how technology has changed over time. Excursions to the Hinze Dam and the Beenleigh Historical Museum were educationally engaging. The Wildlife Warrior and Street Science Rocket incursions were also a hit! Thursdays have been a favourite for Year 2 as they have enjoyed specialist lessons in PE, Chess, Music, Art, STEM, Dance and Drama, and Spanish, led by our team of talented specialist teachers. Visits to the library supported a love of reading, complemented by our dress-up Book Week day. During our Creative by Design week, the students loved the Inside Out theme. They were inspired to engage in this theme through exciting chapels and Christcentred, hands-on WOW activities.

From the 2024 Year 2 teaching team and our outstanding education assistants, we extend our gratitude for the support received from our parents and students. To our Year 2 students, you have been wellknown and well-loved. You will not be forgotten, and our memories of you are etched in our hearts. We look forward to seeing your continued commitment and progress in Year 3 and beyond.

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Year 3

Our Year 3 students have had a fun-filled year where they launched into a world of adventure, learning about God’s amazing creation. The students developed their collaboration, problem-solving and leadership skills and deepened their understanding of our King’s Foundational Values. Each term provided new and exciting opportunities to enhance these skills further.

Our journey started with us travelling around Australia. We explored what each state and territory had to offer, learning about the landmarks and landforms in each. The students enjoyed working as a team to create a 3D model of the state or territory they researched. They also worked hard to persuade their peers that their state was the best place to visit.

We continued our adventure, leaving Australia and visiting our neighbouring countries. Students worked with a partner to learn about their chosen countries’ traditional life and what makes their culture unique. We ended the term with a Multicultural Day to celebrate our learning. Students dressed up in their countries’ traditional clothes, we learnt games and made crafts from different cultures. The students loved the opportunity to showcase their learning to their families.

In Term 3, we took off into space. We made podcasts to share our new knowledge of how the Sun, Earth and Moon work together. Visiting the Brisbane Planetarium was a highlight as we were able to have a close look at our Solar System.

Throughout Term 4, we entered the exciting world of Willy Wonka and his Wonder Lab. We were able to conduct a range of science experiments, ending with a delicious favourite of making ice cream — without a freezer! Year 3 Sleepover was an unforgettable night where we camped out on the field and enjoyed dinner and a movie together.

It has been a privilege to watch our students succeed and achieve their goals this year. The Year 3 teachers would like to give a massive thank you to all our dedicated parents for the support we have received.

We pray for God’s blessings over each student as they continue their learning journey in Year 4.

Year 4

What a remarkable year of learning and growth for our Year 4 students! Starting in Term 1 with a focus on ‘Groups and Communities,’ students explored Australia’s multicultural landscape, developing a strong sense of belonging and an understanding of the laws that support our society. Their investigation into local council projects, like the Pimpama Sports Hub, encouraged real-world thinking about how to enhance community services.

In Term 2, students engaged in hands-on experiences with ‘Forces and Motion,’ uncovering Newton’s laws in fun, practical ways. Through experiments like building an ‘Egg Safety Device’ and creating cardboard arcade games inspired by Caine’s Arcade, they strengthened their collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation skills.

Our Term 3 journey took students back in time to investigate early explorers, convict history, and how these events impacted Indigenous Australians and European settlers. This gave students valuable insights into the importance of looking into history to help us positively shape our future.

In Term 4, the focus shifted to ‘Sustaining Life,’ with an emphasis on environmental stewardship. Learning about the water cycle, food chains, and creating sustainable factory models inspired by The Lorax, students developed an appreciation for responsible, eco-friendly practices.

We are incredibly proud of the courage, resilience, and wisdom our Year 4 students have shown this year. They have truly grown in faith and understanding, and we look forward to seeing how they will continue to make a positive impact on the world around them.

Year 5

The Year 5 students have had an incredibly dynamic and engaging year, brimming with thrilling experiences as they delved into a variety of subjects we were fortunate to introduce to them!

In Term 1, our journey began with an exploration of Space, where students embarked on their own ‘Master’s Degree’ adventure, culminating in a showcase of their work alongside the Year 4 class. Term 2 brought an exciting dive into Animal Adaptations, transforming our students into National Geographic experts as they crafted their first information reports. Term 3 saw us delving into the world of science, and in Term 4, we focused on Natural Disasters. During this unit, students worked collaboratively to tackle real-world issues to develop practical solutions and demonstrate their problem-solving skills.

Among the many memorable moments, our trip to Camp Goodenough stands out prominently. This adventure not only saw students pushing their physical and mental limits but also provided a unique opportunity for them to embody our school’s Foundational Values. At Camp Goodenough, they truly embraced what it means to Live Purposefully, Love Faithfully, Lead Diligently, and Learn Passionately. The experiences at camp, complemented by the meaningful devotions prepared by the chaplaincy team each night, deepened their connection with Christ. As a staff, we hope these meaningful moments will stay with them and continue to inspire their journey.

This Year 5 class has shown remarkable growth throughout the year, embracing each learning experience with enthusiasm and dedication. As educators, we have been truly honoured to support and witness their journey. Our pride in their achievements is immense, and we wish them continued success and joy in their future educational endeavours, and hope they carry forward the wisdom and values they’ve gained this year, always seeking the Lord’s guidance in all they do.

Year 6

2024 has seen the students in Year 6 have an incredible final year of primary school, filled with endless opportunities and experiences that they have navigated while learning through Project Based Learning.

The theme for Year 6 this year has been leadership. Students have had many opportunities to develop themselves as current leaders today and have been encouraged to look for ways to serve those around them. They have showcased their leadership abilities through Peacekeeping, leading devotions for Buddy Classes, and many other opportunities.

In Term 1, we began the year by putting our entrepreneur hats on, where students developed business ideas and presented them to a panel of Sharks in our very own ‘Shark Tank’. Term 2 saw students take a trip through Australian history, researching and representing different Australian icons and legends. Students were challenged in Term 3 to become marketing experts, creating tourism campaigns to entice travellers to visit their chosen Asian country. Finally, in Term 4, our classes were given the opportunity to develop their understanding of renewable energy through the creating of a multi-modal project and presented them in a Science Expo.

To our students advancing to high school: we pray that you strive to continue to honour the Lord in all you do and have the courage to step out and pursue your goals, discovering the wonderful future that lies ahead of you.

Art

It has been another exciting, vibrant and colourful year in our Primary Art classes. This year, we had the privilege of welcoming Mrs Mia Bonser to the Visual Art team at Pimpama campus, which has allowed us to increase our art lessons in Prep to Year 3, creating the opportunity for all students to have an art lesson every week. More lessons equals more amazing artmaking and creativity for our students!

Our talented students have delved into various art techniques and mediums throughout the year. From mixed media to painting with watercolours, the tactile nature of plaster gauze, the joy of working with model magic and terracotta clay, and the rich pigments of oil and soft pastels, they immersed themselves in a world of colour and texture. In addition to their exploration of materials, our students have learned about and been inspired by the works of renowned artists. From the humorous and whimsical cartoon styles of Reg Mombassa, James Rizzi and Keith Haring, to the culturally rich depictions of Jimmy Pike and the dazzling polka-dots of Yayoi Kusama; each artist has inspired our young creatives and left an impression on their artwork.

Our students had the joy of seeing their work displayed during Easter Fest and had the opportunity to enter works of their choosing into various art competitions during the year. We had several students enter their work into the Gold Coast Show and achieved some wonderful results, including first place and several highly commended pieces.

During Creative by Design week students participated in art masterclasses and worked on amazing polymer clay tile creations. We were so excited to see the variety of design ideas that our clever and creative students came up with and we look forward to sharing an exciting new collaborative piece with these creations soon.

Ignite

This year, King’s brought a dynamic array of new learning experiences to the classroom with the introduction of Dance, Drama, and Media Arts, alongside our established STEM curriculum. Our goal was to ignite and cultivate deep-seated passion in students, focusing their knowledge and creativity into engaging and productive learning experiences.

Prep to Year 2 Media Arts students delved into various media by creating digital photo books, exploring cartoons, or making stop-motion videos. Meanwhile, Years 3 to 6 honed media production skills in photography, developed coding games or conveyed King’s Foundational values through impactful social media videos, all while practising responsible media use and ethical online behaviour.

In Semester 2, STEM instruction centred on digital technology. Younger students grasped data basics and introductory coding, while older students tackled Micro: bit coding, exploring inputs and outputs and utilised their knowledge to develop innovative projects.

In Dance and Drama, students enjoyed participating in a variety of active learning experiences, communicating ideas and emotions through creation, presentation, and performance in both formal and informal settings.

Prep to Year 2 students engaged in imaginary play as they studied a range of styles of drama, including puppetry, mime and reader’s theatre. They learnt and performed simple choreography of traditional dances from diverse cultures and explored the art of storytelling through movement to music.

Years 3 to 6 developed creative and critical thinking skills as they studied the basic elements of Dance and Drama in various contexts. They analysed the features of a play script and worked collaboratively to rehearse and perform short pieces to an audience. Students learnt social dances, such as line dancing and worked together to choreograph dance sequences. They explored the history of dance and how stylised techniques have evolved throughout the decades.

End-of-term performances were a highlight, allowing students to showcase and celebrate their learning achievements.

Music

2024 has been an amazing year for our Performing Arts program at King’s Christian College, Pimpama. The Year 4 program has once again proven to be very successful, with many students discovering the joy that is music with many continuing on their instrument after the conclusion of Year 4.

We have seen the continuation of the Year 6 guitar program, which has become fully electric! We now have a full class set of electric guitars and Fender Mustang Micros, which are essentially a mini amp with Bluetooth capabilities enabling our students to practise, perform, compose and record in a way that has many real-world applications for our aspiring future musicians.

We have continued to develop our music lessons with our Prep and Year 1 students learning to sing, clap, tap and shake percussion instruments. Year 2 students used both pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments to make music and sang some wonderful tunes. Year 3 students have developed skills on the recorder, ukulele and glockenspiel and learnt how to compose amazing music pieces. Our Year 5 students have also composed their own music and learned valuable musical skills on the

ukulele and keyboard and various percussion instruments.

Yet again, 2024 has been an amazing year for all our Performing Arts students as they continue to develop their musical gifts and display the amazing talent that Kings Christian College has to offer.

Physical Education

Learn it, Love it,

Live it!

Physical Education (PE) is a time of active learning for students to develop their understanding of the benefits of being physically active while also developing their own physical capabilities in a fun, safe environment. The PE program at King’s aims to educate, guide, motivate and inspire our students through a Christian perspective to develop lifelong habits and lead healthy, active lifestyles.

This year, we have seen the addition of our front ovals, long jump pit, and tartan runway to the students’ learning spaces. The students from Prep to Year 6 have participated in a range of engaging physical activities aimed to develop students’ understanding, fundamental movement skills and gameplay.

All students from Prep to Year 6 participated in one 40-minute PE lesson per week. Students from Prep to Year 2 focused on developing transferable, fundamental fine and gross motor skills through fun, relatable activities. The Prep to Year 3 students also undertook a waterbased awareness swim program completed through a local swim school.

Students are given the opportunity to improve their swimming technical ability and learn safe practices within a water environment.

Year 3 to 6 students have engaged in a diverse range of sports that allowed them to apply their knowledge of fundamental motor skills to game-based scenarios. Students learn how to selectively apply and modify movement concepts to enhance their physical performance based on their physical environment.

The students engage tremendously well in the Physical Education program, and it is great to see this cross over into the different sports offered here at the college. We would like to say a massive thank you to all our incredible students who make this program so enjoyable to teach.

Spanish

Mrs Kathryn Lopez & Mrs Sarah Barrett

¡Hola a todos! Learning Spanish is a fantastic way to open doors to new cultures and adventures. It enhances cognitive development and makes understanding the world more fun and exciting!

In Prep, the adventure began with the basics. Students learned to greet each other and count from 1 to 10. Their learning was filled with songs, playful activities, and practising their oral skills while playing with puppets.

In Year 1, students explored Spanish traditions, music, costumes, foods, and sports. Students learned the song “Cabeza, Hombros, Rodillas y Pies” to help them learn the names of body parts in Spanish.

In Year 2, students compared Spanish culture and language to the English language and Australian culture. They learned vocabulary related to family members, pets, and animals.

In Year 3, students learned how to name items in the classroom and school subjects and how to describe them. Learning this vocabulary encouraged students to talk about their daily school life, making their Spanish lessons more relevant and meaningful.

In Year 4, students learned to name and describe various places in a city, while exploring Madrid and Mexico City. The students also enjoyed performing the song “La Cucaracha” and reciting the rhyme “¿Quién robó pan?” to their class.

In Year 5, students learned about Spanish history and the origins of the language. They read Spanish texts, explored food vocabulary, and participated in shopping role-plays. Additionally, they practised writing sentences about food and clothing, showcasing their growing Spanish skills and increasing confidence in the language.

Finally, in Year 6, students explored Latin cultural values and mastered the days of the week, the months of the year, and how to describe their daily routines. They also practised discussing their personalities and hobbies in Spanish, marking a rewarding conclusion to their Spanish journey.

This year has been a joy, watching the students learn, grow, and showcase their abilities —I’m so proud of their progress and look forward to more Spanish adventures next year. ¡Adiós!

Debating

At King’s Christian College Pimpama, the art of debating has flourished among our Year 5 and 6 students, fostering critical thinking, eloquence and teamwork. Throughout Terms 2 and 3, our young debaters have embraced opportunities to engage in lively discussions and compete against peers both within our school and beyond.

In Terms 2 and 3, Years 5 and 6 students participated enthusiastically in the King’s inter-campus debate competition. This event not only provided a platform for our students to showcase their skills but also encouraged them to develop confidence in expressing their viewpoints and engaging with different perspectives.

Moreover, our Year 6 students took their debating journey a step further by competing in the Queensland Debating Union Gold Coast Competition. This experience allowed them to challenge themselves against peers from other schools, honing their ability to think on their feet and construct compelling arguments under pressure. Their dedication and hard work were evident throughout the competition, reflecting the values of perseverance and excellence that we uphold at King’s Christian College.

Debating is more than just a competition; it is a valuable learning experience that equips students with essential life skills. Students learn to research, analyse information critically, and communicate effectively by participating in debates. These skills are crucial for success in both academic and professional pursuits.

As we continue to nurture a culture of debate at King’s Christian College Pimpama, we look forward to seeing our students grow as confident speakers and critical thinkers. We are proud of their achievements and commend their commitment to embracing new challenges and striving for excellence.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect

It has been an amazing year spending time with our English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) students.

Through our group lessons, we help the students with reading, writing, speaking, and listening. These group times with the students are educational and engaging. We make each session a learning experience with a little fun.

Mrs Lilly Darby has been reading with the Prep to Year 2 students. They have also enjoyed experimenting with adjectives and punctuation to make their writing more exciting. They have learnt basic grammar as well.

Playing educational games has been fun throughout the year, with the students learning to listen and interact with other peers.

Mrs Karen Miller has had the pleasure of being with the Year 3 to Year 6 students and they have enjoyed reading plays and learning expression through characters. They have also worked on making their writing more exciting with adjectives and stretching their simple sentences into longer ones using tense and phrases. The Year 6 students debated on a topic and

were very persuasive with both sides.

All students have also used their imagination in their writing of narratives and acrostic poems. They have also enjoyed playing games like celebrity heads and sound UNO. Playing games helps the students learn patience, speaking with peers and language concepts.

We are looking forward to creating more learning opportunities for our students.

Secondary

Looking back on 2024, I am filled with joy and gratitude for the year that was aptly themed the “Year of Excellence.” The collaborative achievements that have been made in all aspects of our school — academics, sporting, cultural, and spiritual, are a testament to the commitment of our entire school community to fostering excellence across all dimensions of student life.

One of the cornerstones of our year was our focus on cultivating future Christian leaders. This year, we have had our college’s first Senior Student Executive Leadership Team, and with this, we have seen an inspiring rise in student leadership. We have seen many of our students (leadership badge or no badge) growing their leadership capacity with newfound confidence and purpose. Through programs, mentorship opportunities, and service initiatives, our students have developed a deeper understanding of what it means to lead with integrity and compassion. Our commitment to raising Christian leaders is reflected in our student’s dedication to serving others and their ability to inspire positive change within our community.

This year, we celebrated the graduation of our first Year 12 cohort. Their journey has been marked by perseverance and dedication, and their achievements stand as a proud testament to their hard work and the support of our exceptional educators. We have witnessed our students excel academically, with impressive results and a passionate pursuit of knowledge. Their success underscores the strength of our academic programs and the importance of fostering a learning environment where curiosity and excellence are celebrated.

“Being able to see a perspective outside of my own” was a recurring phrase from students who accepted the challenge of participating in a missions trip this year. Excellence in our spiritual lives has also been prevalent this year. Our students have engaged deeply in their faith through school chapels, engagement in pastoral care classes, in-depth discussion during Christian Studies, personal reflection and a curriculum approach that is taught from a biblical world view. The integration of faith into daily life has provided our students with a sense of purpose and a commitment to living out Christian values both within and beyond the school community.

Our commitment to excellence also extends into both sporting and cultural pursuits. This year, our students have excelled in various sports, demonstrating teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. It has been such a joy to watch the much-anticipated Rugby League program take flight, along with increased student participation in many sporting competitions, including volleyball, netball, basketball and futsal, to name a few. It was also wonderful to see our Wakakirri students excel and achieve a state award in the story-dance competition. These highlight only some of the wonderful achievements at King’s Pimpama and the importance of encouraging students to pursue their passions and develop their talents.

Throughout this Year of Excellence, we have celebrated the growth, achievements, and unwavering commitment of our students, staff, and community. As we move forward, let us carry the spirit of excellence into every aspect of our lives, continuing to strive for greatness and uphold the values that have guided us throughout this year.

In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for men. Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, which he promised to his people. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24

College Culture

At King’s, we intentionally cultivate the Foundational Values of Love Faithfully, Live Purposefully, Learn Passionately and Lead Diligently. These values provide the framework for our school culture and for accomplishing our mission of “Educating Students in Christian Leadership for Tomorrow’s Generation”.

In 2024, we have focussed on developing these values across the High School through the pursuit and experience of a genuine sense of belonging within our community. This pursuit has created opportunities for our students to develop greater insight into what it means to create, build and contribute to a community where everyone can flourish; to seek a deeper understanding of what we believe as a Christian community; and to become leaders who serve others in order to have a positive impact in their sphere of influence.

As with the example given to us in 1 Corinthians, we believe that we truly are one body — the body of Christ. While we all have our own part to play in this, we all belong to the one body. As our students have grown in their understanding of what it means to be a member of the body of Christ, we have seen them wholeheartedly embrace, encounter, share and embody the Spirit of God. Guided by their families and our incredible staff, this has led to countless experiences of Spirit-filled activities that set our college apart as much more than just a school.

As our students continue to grow in their faith, conviction and understanding of the application of our mission, we have the privilege of witnessing the many ways through which God has moved in their lives. As we celebrate the end of another incredible year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank each member of the King’s Family for the important part you play in building a College Culture that glorifies God in all that we do. We are passionate about training our students up in the way they should go, and pray that you and your family continue to see the fruit of this labour over the many years to come.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to create opportunities for each and every student to achieve their God-given potential and flourish as a King’s Kid.

Teaching & Learning

The mission statement of King’s Christian College is intentional — Educating Students in Christian Leadership for Tomorrow’s Generation. Over the year, the good work conducted by our Pimpama staff has been to elevate excellence and build capacity within students for post-secondary education. The unique challenges and opportunities awaiting both our staff and families include the changing landscape of employment and tertiary education, in addition to the significant changes in both the P-10 Australian Curriculum and the 2025 Senior General Syllabuses.  If King’s is to be the exemplar multi-campus Christian school in Australia, teaching and learning requires a firm foundation.

A key theme for the teaching and learning team this year has been alignment, which includes the development of a seamless curriculum between primary to high school. Through several professional development days, including the Term 3 multi-campus curriculum event, collaborative conversations and shared experiences have produced a common understanding for staff to effectively plan our Version 9 Australian Curriculum roadmap. Under the leadership of Mrs Hamilton, our heads of department have also engaged in timetable construction to enhance student outcomes through the inclusion of extended teaching periods, as well as the introduction of extension subjects such as our year-long Excellence electives in Year 10.

Building an academic culture requires contributions from both staff and students. The college recognises the Leadership of our Academic Prefect and the desire of all Year 12 students to leave a Legacy for Learning, using the experiences of our first graduating cohort at Pimpama.  Senior survey results highlighted the need for face-to-face teaching and a desire for learning environments that amplify social connection despite the rapid technological advancement and access to online platforms or remote learning. Our data-informed response has been to introduce the masterclasses and trial exam preparation sessions, which have produced invaluable learner feedback to improve internal assessment responses and enhance external assessment preparation through early detection of required knowledge, skills and understanding.

The teaching and learning team thank God for the many contributions from our staff that have helped build the foundations of our curriculum programs to successfully prepare our students for their God-given destinies.

Art

In Visual Art, Year 8 students are introduced to the elements of art — line, shape, form, texture, colour, and space. To practice applying these elements, they explore the Pop Art genre. Students create a painting of their favourite cartoon character, using the bright colours and bold outlines seen in Roy Lichtenstein’s comic book style work. Working with clay, students then create a sculpture of an animal, a food, or a popular product – using inspiration from Claes Oldenburg’s gigantic sculptures and, instead, making their sculpture comically small.

Year 9 begin to understand art as a means of communicating a message, idea, or concept, exploring identity. Students created a graphite tonal drawing of their pet, using the bond with their pet to express a form of selfidentity. Exploring the Mambo Art movement, students create a Mamboinspired painting using satire to comment on current Australian culture.

Year 10 Visual Art class has been working hard on developing their creativity this year with studies into abstraction, appropriation and symbolism. Students explored various traditional drawing techniques and painting mediums while manipulating digital images to create

contemporary artworks. Students created abstract still life images of guitars, designed t-shirt artworks about social issues and reimagined symbolic painting that recontextualises meaning about our modern world.

Year 11 Art explored Contemporary Art through new contexts and perspectives to challenge and extend their creativity. Students have been creating experimental artworks and researching and developing minor folios of artwork. They visited the Marina at Cabbage Tree Point, Lions Park at Jacob’s Well Boat Ramp and the Parklands at Calypso Bay to gain inspiration for upcoming folios for their senior artworks.

Year 12 Visual Art had the privilege of visiting the Home of the Arts (HOTA) as part of a stimulus excursion for their ‘folio of artwork’ assessment. The Italian Renaissance Alive exhibition was beyond remarkable as we were transported into a world of breathtaking art, history, culture, architecture, sculpture and literature that transcends our time. As an installation piece, we became fully immersed in this stunning audio-visual experience as astounding artworks from centuries before us were projected onto every corner of the massive room, accompanied by beguiling melodies and classical music to create an unparalleled experience of a lifetime.

Liu, Year 12 student

The Business Department has incorporated a range of engaging activities to inspire students across the disciplines at Pimpama in 2024. More activities are planned to make 2025 even more engaging for the students of subjects in this area of study.

The Year 9 Young Entrepreneurs were the highlight again with the annual Biz Day event, where students sold inventive products to the school community for profit, developing entrepreneurial creativity and learning fundamental business skills. The Year 10 Business students had an incursion on ‘Talk Money’ and joined the ‘Plan Your Own Enterprise’ competition, working in groups to develop innovative ideas and present these into a comprehensive and competitive business plan. Year 10 and 11 Accounting students also had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an accounting student at university visiting QUT. The excursion then gave the students the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an accountant professional as modelled by Ernst & Young and ANZ. The Year 11 Business students attended an excursion to the Bond University Ideas Camp to challenge their problem-solving skills and to provide a platform to make professional connections. Bond University is keen to keep the

connection with the school and students for the future. The Year 12 Business students visited Movie World to investigate how a business in the maturity stage of the business life cycle remains competitive.

The Year 10 and 11 Legal Studies students were able to learn about the judicial systems by visiting the Beenleigh District and Magistrates Court, as well as the Brisbane District and Supreme Court, respectively. These opportunities enhance students’ understanding of Australia’s legal system, enabling them to hear real-world cases and speak directly with judges and legal practitioners.

The Business department is working hard to ensure students are given learning experiences and challenges to inspire and develop real-world business acumen, adding value to the academic journey.

Christian Studies

Exploring Faith: A Journey Through Christian Studies

At our school, Christian Studies offers a profound exploration of faith and life’s big questions, guiding students through a transformative journey. This year, our curriculum delves into various topics that shape a robust Christian foundation.

Students are engaging deeply with the core aspects of their faith, including Bible reading, which fosters a personal connection with Scripture. Through studying the person of Jesus and the heroes of the Bible, they are discovering how these figures embody Christian values and can inspire their own lives.

Conflict management and leadership are integral parts of the course, equipping students with practical skills to navigate challenges and lead with integrity. Evangelism and serving others are emphasized, encouraging students to actively share their faith and contribute positively to their communities.

As students explore their identity and seek answers to life’s big questions, they are building a strong foundation of faith that will guide them throughout their lives. The curriculum not only nurtures spiritual growth but also prepares them to be thoughtful, compassionate individuals in a diverse world. This holistic approach ensures that Christian Studies remains a cornerstone of our educational experience, shaping character and faith.

English

This year, the English department at King’s Pimpama has been filled with energy and excitement as our campus continues to grow rapidly. We have continued to serve and support our students with a valuable curriculum that will lead them earnestly into the next phase of their lives after high school.

This year is quite significant for Pimpama as we farewell our first graduating class. Congratulations to all of you. May the Lord bless and keep you in 2025 and beyond.

Our department has been marked by kindness, teamwork, and many collaborative efforts. We have all felt blessed by one another and our students are likewise blessed to have such hard-working and compassionate educators in their classrooms.

This year in English, we really enjoyed discovering how our studies connected to so many other important areas of life. Silent reading became a favourite part of our day, giving us a quiet moment to dive into new ideas. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas especially stood out, expanding our understanding of the Holocaust and teaching us about friendship, loyalty, and the deeper meanings in stories we sometimes miss on the first read. Oh, and we also realised that 600 words isn’t much at all!

Rebekah Hambleton and Ethan Marteene - Year 7 students

Humanities

Humanities is one of the rare subjects with which we get to explore the past (History), the present (Geography) and how the business world impacts our present and future (Economics and Business). A quote I have kept through my teaching years truly reflects the value of this subject area for all. It reads, “We only preserve what we love, we only love what we understand, we only understand what we study.”

From understanding ancient civilisations like Egypt, Greece and Rome and to the impact of the Middle Ages and the world moving towards global wars and revolutions, our ideas of History show a pattern of ongoing conflict and innovation to change and control our world.

Geography has introduced a number of present challenges our world is facing, from water issues and natural forces that change our planet to seeing the wide beauty and biodiversity of our world. With these challenges has always come the human spirit to help and improve the lives of people and places around us.

Economics and Business has helped our junior students grasp concepts of how our needs and wants truly drive the economic forces around our

world. This has been an important stepping stone into future studies of Business, Legal Studies and Accounting.

I pray the very best for our first year of graduating Year 12 Geography and Modern History students as they look ahead to the next stage of their life. They have set a beautiful foundation for the coming year levels, and I will not forget their discipline and dedication to achieve amazing results this year. They have been a pleasure to teach and have truly reflected the quote above, which I have personally held onto throughout my life.

Japanese Cultural Day

Mathematics

2024, the year of our first Year 12 cohort at Pimpama, has been full of challenges, achievement, and much learning. The maths team has valued teaching the Pimpama students throughout the year.

Mathematics is the discovery of the patterns found in God’s creation. Our students have applied themselves diligently to studying these patterns, even to the extent of staying after school to study together.

Some comments from our amazing students follow:

As a Year 12 student, math has become one of my favourite subjects. The school’s comprehensive curriculum in General, Methods, and Specialist Mathematics over the last six years offers a variety of engaging challenges that have not only deepened my understanding but also fueled my passion for the subject. I genuinely enjoy tackling complex problems and exploring different mathematical concepts. The supportive learning environment and emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving skills have made math rewarding and enjoyable, making it one of the highlights of my time here.

Janine Park - Year 12 student

To say that math was great this year would be an understatement. Despite having many ups and downs, Math has been an amazing experience. We have been provided many resources and genres throughout the year, significantly enhancing our learning. The teachers, without a doubt, have improved the quality of the curriculum, allowing us to grow and develop as students due to the evident time and hard work they have committed to our education. We’ve been equipped with important knowledge to prepare for our senior years and enjoyed being able to do Year 10 Maths at King’s.

Eri Akindele and Charlotte Giggins - Year 10 students

Math. I honestly don’t know what I would do without it. It’s so helpful in almost every aspect of my life, especially the current volumes and surface area. The teachers are amazing, and the content work is satisfying. Math tends to give me peace. It’s a relaxing subject, and the continuity always makes me happy. It may be quite repetitive at times, but I like that. The feeling of solving a complex problem never gets old. Overall, Math is a subject that helps me so much in everything I do.

Harry Funk - Year 9 student

Being in the Extension Maths class has been a great introduction to High School Math. Every term, we covered new curriculum topics, like finding the perimeter and calculating the area of composite shapes. One of the best things about the class is how Math was taught. Our teacher would teach us new things and then give us an extension of it from a higher grade, and amazingly, some of us could solve it. The class itself inspired a lot of teamwork and I learnt many important lessons like keeping an open mind to solving problems and that to be able to understand something well, you must be able to explain it clearly. In all, the class was an amazing part of Year 7 and a great step for a career in Maths or STEM.

Yui Shim - Year 7 student

This year in Maths, we are learning mostly extensions of math but also about the basics of math — areas, perimeters, and volumes of different varieties of shapes. We are learning much about the extended branches of our basic topics and more advanced categories of math for grades higher than Year 7. The extension work makes us think more critically and allows us to use the skill sets and knowledge we already possess, which is beneficial for our learning and unlocking new skills and keeps us engaged. Ethan Marteene – Year 7 student

May our God be glorified as we study mathematics and discover more of His handiwork.

Physical Education

Year 12 Physical Education at King’s Christian College offers students a comprehensive program aligned with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) syllabus, designed to enhance their physical, intellectual, social, and emotional capacities. The course is rooted in Arnold’s framework, promoting deep learning in movement contexts, with students learning about, through, and in movement.

Throughout the course, students complete various assessments, including a Folio, Investigation, and Examination. Our Physical Education program fosters lifelong active engagement and equips students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in diverse pathways beyond school.

The program is developmental, becoming increasingly complex across four units. In Unit 1, students explore the fundamental concepts of movement sequences, focusing on biomechanical principles to enhance physical performance.

Unit 2 broadens their perspective by examining psychological factors that influence engagement in physical activity, identifying outcomes, limitations and implications for optimal performance.

Unit 3 deepens students’ understanding of tactical awareness and ethical behaviour in physical activity, encouraging them to consider how these factors impact their own and others’ performance. To demonstrate their performance, students film their netball and volleyball activities, analysing their movements and strategies. Finally, in Unit 4, students delve into energy, fitness, and training principles to optimise personal performance.

Masterclasses have been introduced to specifically teach key skills, helping students succeed in their assessments and target weak areas. These sessions also utilise GPS Trackers to collect primary data on student performance while gathering footage for their Folio.

Additionally, students participated in a school incursion, using the facilities to film their performance in authentic gameplay environments. This allowed them to identify areas for improvement using a Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI). During this incursion, students also completed fitness testing to collect primary data on their fitness components.

Science

Science Week, held from 12-16 August, was an action-packed event that brought students together to celebrate science, discovery, and the wonders of Australian wildlife. The week was filled with engaging activities, inspiring presentations, and a touch of adventure, making it a memorable experience for students and staff alike.

Years 6 and 7 students and some Year 12 helpers were treated to a special presentation by the Wild Rangers. The Ranger didn’t just talk about animals; she brought a few along, turning the auditorium into a mini-wildlife sanctuary. Among the stars of the show were a Woma python, a blue-tongue lizard, a long-neck turtle, and a crocodile. Students were captivated by the animals’ and the fascinating facts shared by the Ranger. Another highlight of the presentation was the squirrel glider, a tiny marsupial with big, expressive eyes and a gliding ability that left students in awe. It was a rare treat to see such a unique animal up close. But the real showstopper was Poppy, the red-tailed black cockatoo. Deciding she needed a better view of the audience, Poppy took flight and landed high up in the rafters of the auditorium. We were in awe when her owner

calmly coaxed her down, with Poppy happily returning to her perch on her owner’s arm. Year 12 student Asher Morrell summed up the excitement perfectly, “It was the most excitement I’ve ever seen at King’s!”

Years 8 and 9 students put their science skills to the test in an Escape Room Challenge. It wasn’t your typical escape room — students completed a series of practical tasks to uncover a secret code. From experimenting with chemistry to solving physics puzzles, the challenge encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity.

The excitement in the room was palpable as each team raced against the clock, with a sense of accomplishment and triumph in the air as the students cracked the final codes. It was a fun and educational experience, reminding us all how science can be challenging and incredibly rewarding.

The senior students weren’t left out of the fun. They participated in the Australian Wildlife Impossible Quiz, a challenging competition that tested their knowledge of Australia’s unique flora and fauna. With tricky questions that ranged from the habits of native animals to conservation efforts, the quiz pushed students to think deeply about the natural world around them. The top contestants from each grade were awarded prizes.

Digital Technologies

Our exploration into the realm of coding within Digital Technologies this year has exposed us to a myriad of programming languages. It has been an invigorating experience unlike any other encountered previously. The mastery of coding is of paramount importance due to its intricate nature, especially as technology continues to advance rapidly.

Throughout the initial semester, we honed our coding skills in website development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Initially, grappling with the intricacies of HTML and CSS posed challenges for many of us, leading to varying proficiency levels. Nonetheless, we relished the creative freedom to explore and express ourselves through website design.

Additionally, we employed AI to generate captivating images for our websites, enhancing their visual appeal. We thoroughly enjoyed the process, embracing the setbacks and engaging in problem-solving endeavours. During this period, we also participated in the Australasian coding tournaments organised by Grok Academy, with some of us achieving commendable rankings and many securing top positions.

Moving into the second semester, we delved into the realm of application development, learning the Swift programming language, significantly distinct from our prior experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Despite its differences, Swift’s cohesive approach to coding languages facilitated a relatively smooth learning and adaptation process.

Simultaneously, while mastering the art of coding using Swift, we designed an application leveraging machine learning to determine an optimal sleep time based on individual preferences such as desired sleep duration, caffeine intake, and more. The application design process was both enjoyable and exhilarating, as it allowed for the conceptualisation of every aspect of the application, from text placement to functionality and feature integration. Some of us developed applications aligned with our websites, while others pursued standalone app projects.

A standout aspect of our Digital Technologies journey was the ability to pursue projects according to our creative impulses, free from prescriptive requirements to create specific applications or websites.

- Year 9

Food Technology & Textile Design

This year, our Food and Nutrition students from senior Years 10 to 12 and Food Technologies and Textile Design students from junior Years 8 to 9 have been busy developing innovative and creative solutions across various projects!

In Year 12, students focused on Nutrition Consumer Markets, learning to develop food solutions tailored to specific consumer needs. They delved into the science of carbohydrates, creating resistant carbohydrate-based food solutions for the popular restaurant Vapianos.

Year 11 students turned their attention to the role of vitamins, minerals, and proteins in nutrition. They crafted whey protein desserts and even explored the development of Youfoodz-inspired prepackaged meals. Their projects highlighted the importance of these nutrients in modern dietary solutions.

Our Year 10 students took a trip around the world — culinarily speaking — by studying Flavours from Around the World. They experimented with different cooking methods used in various cultures and capped off the term by catering a high tea, demonstrating their culinary skills and understanding of nutrition.

The Junior students have also been busy! Our Year 9 students embarked on an exciting excursion to Ikea, where they learned about interior design and how to bring their dream room to life. Along the way, they gained a foundational understanding of nutrition and crafted their own pyjamas from scratch — a true test of their textile skills.

Year 8 students explored the world of food and fashion by making their own aprons before diving into the kitchen. They applied their learning by creating a honey soy stir fry as a food solution for the tuck shop.

From designing rooms to creating delicious meals and practical textile projects, it’s been a year full of creativity, learning, and innovation across all year levels!

Industrial Design & Technology

What a year 2024 has been in the Industrial Design & Technology space. Students explored a vast array of concepts within the bounds of Engineering, Industrial Graphics Skills and Industrial Technology Skills, focusing on creativity and innovation.

The challenges presented to our students were designed to provide them with learning based on real-world concepts. From cheese boards and bag tags to robotic arms and digital modelling, students have used cuttingedge technology such as Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), 3D printing, laser cutting, resin infusion, electronics, and injection moulding to conceptualise solutions creatively.

The hard work and countless hours put in by our exceptional staff have given our students learning experiences they have enjoyed all year. A heartfelt acknowledgment goes to the committed individuals who tirelessly nurture our students’ talents and ambitions. I extend my sincere gratitude to Mr Stevens, Mr Pyne, Mr Mabika, and our Teacher Aide, Mr Irwin, whose inspiring contributions have been instrumental in shaping the students’ journeys. We would also like to recognise the valuable contribution made by our partners in the IDT department at the Reedy Creek campus.

As we ponder the year that has been, I am filled with pride thinking of what our students have accomplished. As we look to the future, we are excited to push further into the world of digital design and practical skills as we look to inspire each and every student to fulfil their potential.

Music

Students in the high school music program are offered many opportunities that encourage and challenge them to develop skills and understanding of music performance, composition and musicology. The college offers a balance of both practical and theoretical elements in the middle years rotational program.

During the high school program, students gain opportunities to perform on a wide variety of instruments, including the guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, ukulele, wind, string and percussion instruments. In addition, students are taught to compose and record music using notation software such as Musescore and production technology such as GarageBand.

Students in various year levels have studied units covering topics such as blues, musical theatre, musical periods, and the orchestra, and looking at music relating to the concepts of design, identity, innovation and narrative in senior studies.

Students enjoy the opportunity to demonstrate the skills learned in their classroom music education by performing at various annual events such as Easter Fest and the Spring Fair.

Each week, our chapels provide the opportunity for King’s students to engage in both worshipping God and developing their God-given gifts in music through service.

Our first contingent of Year 12 Music students completed the senior course in 2024 with a very high average and created some wonderful work. We look forward to a continuation of that enthusiasm and dedication in the cohorts that follow.

Dance

Dance at King’s Christian College has flourished this year, both in the classroom and on stage. From exploring the depth of dance in our curriculum to showcasing incredible talent in extracurricular activities, our students have embraced every opportunity to express themselves through movement and creativity.

In Years 9 and 10, students explored how dance not only enhances performances but also reflects society and culture. They examined how dance connects people to their heritage and acts as a universal language. They also analysed the impact of popular culture on modern dance and studied the evolution of musical theatre.

Beyond the classroom, dance at King’s thrived in extracurricular activities. The year began with Easter Fest, where students had the privilege of learning a routine from guest choreographer Ellie Martin. This was followed by standout performances at the Arts Showcase and Spring Fair.

A highlight for many students was attending the Arts Camp in Melbourne, where they participated in workshops at the Dance Factory. These sessions offered hands-on experience with industry professionals, giving

students valuable insights into the professional dance world and helping them refine their skills while exploring potential career paths.

We also launched our inaugural Dance Troupe this year, adding a new dimension to the school’s creative and sporting programs. Competing in local eisteddfods, our dancers performed with passion and precision. The pinnacle of our extracurricular success came when we participated in the Wakakirri Dance Story Competition, where we received the State Award for Excellence and the Cultural and Social Diversity Community Story Award for our moving performance.

Dance at King’s continues to be a vibrant intersection of creativity, culture, and community. Our students excel both academically and in performance, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication. We look forward with excitement to the future of dance at King’s.

Drama

An Exciting Year for Performing Arts at Pimpama

This year has been filled with exciting adventures for the Performing Arts at Pimpama, as we’ve welcomed fresh opportunities and new developments in our senior curriculum. A key milestone was introducing our first Year 12 Performing Arts class, alongside additional classes in our Year 7 and 8 Performance subjects.

The Year 12 Drama students have truly embraced the senior curriculum by exploring the thought-provoking world of Absurdism. Through this, they examined how theatre can comment on social and political issues in today’s world, finding powerful connections between dramatic form and real-world challenges. These students also engaged with heritage texts, such as Shakespeare’s Macbeth, considering how a contemporary audience can still relate to the themes of ambition, power, and fate that resonate through the ages. By weaving together both modern and classical elements, our Year 12 students have demonstrated an impressive depth of understanding of how theatre can bridge past and present.

In Years 9 and 10 Drama, students have immersed themselves in the foundations of drama, delving into the richness of Shakespeare’s works and exploring what it means to put on a performance. Through these studies, they have developed both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills, gaining a deeper understanding of performance techniques and the timeless appeal of classical texts.

Meanwhile, our Performance elective continued to run within the Year 7 rotations and extended into Year 8. In this exciting program, students were introduced to both Dance and Drama through the lens of Musical Theatre. They explored choreographic techniques and learned to create their own musical dance pieces, while also developing skills in language and character development. Throughout the term, students participated in a variety of activities and role-playing scenarios, which helped them build confidence and deepen their understanding of performance.

A couple of highlights from the Performing Arts department this year were the introduction of our first dance eisteddfod groups and various showcase events. Our school proudly represented the Performing Arts at both the Beenleigh and Gold Coast dance eisteddfods. Additionally, we participated in Wakakirri, a performance showcase where students from Years 7 to 12 took home a prestigious state award for their outstanding storytelling and performance skills. These events demonstrated the incredible talent and dedication of our students, making it a truly unforgettable year.

None of this would be possible without the incredible staff in the Performing Arts department, who consistently go above and beyond to provide students with engaging, challenging, and inspiring learning experiences. They encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, nurturing both creativity and confidence.

It has truly been a fantastic year for the High School Performing Arts Department at Pimpama, and we are excited about what the future holds!

Health

Year 12 Health: Promoting Community Wellbeing

At King’s Christian College, the Year 12 Health program, guided by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) syllabus, empowers students to make meaningful contributions to community health. The course is structured around four key units, each designed to address significant aspects of personal and community wellbeing.

Throughout the course, students complete various assessments, including an Analytical Exposition, Examination, and Investigation Report. These tasks require students to engage with real-world problems critically and propose actionable solutions.

In Unit 1, students explore “Resilience as a personal health resource,” focusing on the PERMA+ framework. This positive psychology model, encompassing Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment, along with physical health, helps students build resilience and improve their overall wellbeing.

Unit 2 examines “Peers and family as resources for healthy living,” with a specific focus on alcohol consumption. Students analyse the influence of peers and family on alcohol use and develop strategies to promote responsible behaviours and healthier choices within their communities.

In Unit 3, “Community as a resource for healthy living,” students place particular emphasis on road safety. They analyse local and regional road safety challenges, applying their knowledge to develop innovative strategies that target these issues within the context of King’s Christian College and the broader Pimpama community. These strategies aim to overcome barriers to safer road environments and improve overall health and wellbeing.

Unit 4 shifts focus to “Respectful Relationships in the post-schooling transition,” where students address the complexities of maintaining healthy relationships after leaving school. They investigate the challenges faced by young adults and devise solutions to foster respectful interactions in their future communities.

Careers

2024 is the year of our first Year 12 cohort. They have demonstrated leadership, strength of character and determination as they have paved the way for future generations of Pimpama King’s students.

Our Year 12 students have embraced their future pathways with enthusiasm, by undertaking additional external study as part of their senior schooling. Ten students have undertaken a traineeship, seven have undertaken a diploma, and 18 chose to complete a certificate course (certificate II-IV) in areas of future interest. Two students braved the world of university to successfully study a semester of university with first year students. One of our young ladies has embarked on an apprenticeship which will convert to full time employment at the end of this year. Three of these students completed two qualifications over Years 11 and 12. This is a wonderful achievement as 35 of the 77 students achieved additional qualifications while at school. The rest of the cohort have been focused on excelling in their academics as they are aspiring to get into very competitive degrees at university such as medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, and engineering.

We wish them all the best in their future endeavours and look forward to our foundation alumni sharing their achievements with us in years to come.

Other career-related activities this year include all Year 10 students visiting the Gold Coast Careers Festival in May. Students undertook work experience to help them with their career decisions. Guest speakers included the Defence Force, University representatives and a variety of speakers covering a range of topics such as gap year options, budgeting, buying property, the impact of your digital footprint and tax! It has been a very busy year.

Instrumental Music

“You know what made my education worthwhile? Music. It made me want to go to school, it made me want to stay at school, and it opened my eyes to what I could achieve at school. More importantly, it made me feel comfortable in school, and in myself. Music made it all worthwhile.”

The backbone of Instrumental Music is the weekly lessons, which facilitate students’ upskilling, development and progress. These, combined with persistence and dedicated practice, lay a solid foundation for growth and success. Guided by highly accomplished and professional teachers, the students are guided toward mastering their craft. The mission of King’s — ‘Educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow’s generation’, is nurtured within Instrumental Music.

All Year 4 students were immersed in a music experience with the compulsory Instrumental Music Immersion Program. The students learned one orchestral instrument over the year, with weekly lessons and ensembles undertaken. The program culminated in a concert for parents and the Year 3 students in Term 4. The Year 6 students also enjoyed learning an instrument with the electric guitar taught in the classroom music lessons.

Students involved in the school ensemble program gave public performances during the year, both at school and at community events. These opportunities included Easter Service and Easter Fest, Twilight Concerts, Spring Fair, Honours assemblies, Eisteddfods, and, of course, the fantastic Instrumental Music Showcase.

This year, King’s inter-campus ensemble workshops were offered for band and strings students. The inaugural Band Workshop for Reedy Creek and Pimpama Senior and Junior Concert Bands was held at the Reedy Creek campus. Mr. Grant Mason was the guest educator and conductor who joined with King’s Band instrument teachers for the day. The students and their respective bands benefitted greatly from the experience and were greatly energised for their upcoming participation in the Eisteddfod.

King’s strings students from Reedy Creek, Pimpama and Logan Village joined together for a day-long workshop at Pimpama campus, where they learned new skills and improved their craft on their string instrument. Many of King’s educators facilitated the event and our guest educator, Mr. Mark Sullivan.

A very special highlight this year was the participation in the Quota Beenleigh and Gold Coast Eisteddfods. Our ensembles achieved commendable results in every category, as follows:

Junior Concert Band (Combined with Reedy Creek), Mr. Jacob Aspinall

Junior String Orchestra, Mr. Nikhil Deo

Senior String Orchestra, Mr. Ryan Chislett

3rd Place:

Pimpama Concert Band, Mr. Jacob Aspinall

Year 4 Beginner String Orchestra, Mr. Ryan Chislett

Senior Concert Band (including Reedy Creek), Mr. Jacob Aspinall

Highly Commended:

Year 4 Beginner Band, Mr. Jacob Aspinall

Junior String Quartet, Mr. Nikhil Deo

Our talented music students also had the opportunity to participate in the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP), with the following results:

SHEP Queensland – 3 students

SHEP Brisbane – 1 student

SHEP South East Queensland – 9 students

Sport Report

“King’s sport will develop Christian leaders for tomorrow’s generation. Our focus is to create sporting pathways and develop an individual’s ability, character, sportsmanship, and leadership through a Christian worldview”.

Pimpama Sport Vision Statement

2024 has marked a significant year of growth and transformation in our school’s sporting landscape. With an extensive expansion of our facilities and an increase in sporting opportunities, this year has set a new standard for our programs. Let’s delve into the highlights of this remarkable year and explore the exciting developments on the horizon for 2025.

In 2024, we’ve significantly increased the range of sporting opportunities available to our students. This year, we facilitated six times more sporting opportunities compared to 2023, reflecting our commitment to fostering diverse athletic interests and talents. Three times more students qualified for regional or higher representation within the school sports pathway, highlighting the growing talent in our school.

Futsal has continued to flourish, with several of our teams winning major tournaments. Building on this success, we expanded our focus to football, entering three teams into the Pacific Pines 9v9 tournament in August. Our 5/6 Boys team excelled, clinching the tournament trophy and showcasing their growing talent and teamwork.

Our rugby league programs have been a standout this year, with the highlight being our Year 7/8 Boys Struddy’s Cup team. They were unstoppable, finishing the competition undefeated and securing the championship with a 46-0 win over Redcliffe SHS in the final. We also had our first Titans Cup girls’ team, with an impressive 25 girls joining the league, many for the first time. Their dedication to training led to their first-ever win, marking a significant milestone for the team. Support for the wider community was given by hosting four NRL gala days throughout the year, providing a development platform for other local schools.

Our basketball program saw exciting developments in 2024. Our Basketball Club fielded 13 teams in the Coomera Seahawks competition, including three girls’ teams, reflecting the growing interest and participation in this sport. King’s teams competed across various categories, including Primary Next Stars, Primary 3x3, Junior Secondary, Sophomore, and Opens.

Netball thrived this year, with our primary and high school students competing in various competitions. Our teams participated in notable events such as the Primary Schools Gala Day, the Vicky Willson Shield and Cup, the INFQ Cups, and Coast vs Country matches. This season also saw the debut of our first all-boys and mixed teams. With their commitment to weekly training, our players are dedicated and striving for excellence.

In the middle of this year, we proudly unveiled our brand-new front oval; a state-of-the-art facility that boasts three full-size fields, space for an eightlane Grass 400m Track, four-lane tartan long jump pit, as well as two shot put circles and two discus cages, enabling the enhancement of our track and field capabilities.

As we look to the future, 2025 promises to be another landmark year for our sporting programs. Our rugby league boys will look to play in the Broncos Cup, offering new challenges and opportunities for our players. We plan to double the number of netball tournaments for primary and high school levels, providing our students with more competitive and developmental opportunities. And, for the first time, we will host our athletics carnival onsite, fully utilising our facilities.

In closing, the sports department staff would like to express our gratitude for the unwavering support of our parents, coaches, staff, and the Pimpama community. Together, we will continue to nurture the passion for sports in our young athletes and strive for excellence. The journey ahead is filled with promise, and we invite you to enjoy the incredible photos of our athletes in action. Here’s to a remarkable 2025!

Prep-Year 3 Athletics Carnival

Athletics

Our High School Carnival was held on 20-21 May, followed by our Primary Carnival on 22 May at Runaway Bay Sporting Complex. It is always a great sight to witness when all the students are competing and having fun. A jammed-pack schedule has our students participate in many events to gain points for their House and their individual Age Champion. This was noticed by the large number of old records broken this year.

Cross Country

On a wet Tuesday, 26 March, we had running back-to-back the Years 3-6 and Years 7-11 Cross Country Carnivals at our King’s Pimpama Campus on our brand-new ovals. We are so proud of our students demonstrating perseverance and excellence, which are core foundational values. Despite the rain and mud, student had fun, giving their best efforts and celebrating with their friends.

Swimming

The High School and Primary swimming carnival begins our year, a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and fierce competition. As students gather around the pool, draped in their house colors, the air buzzes with anticipation. Each house, representing a community within the school, is determined to claim victory, fueling a spirited rivalry that adds an extra dimension to the event.

In the water, the atmosphere is electric as swimmers dive in, their strokes powerful in the 50m events. The pool becomes a battleground where personal bests are shattered, and records are challenged, all for the reward of becoming age champion. Amidst the competitiveness, the swimming carnival is a celebration of fun and sportsmanship. Laughter rings out as students join in participation races, novelty events and relays.

High School saw a changing of the guard with Newton House winning the day putting a halt to Finney’s dominance last year. It was different in Primary school where the top three Houses were only separated by 61 points! Tyndale House was crowned champions in the Primary.
