We are thrilled that you are joining us for this extraordinary celebration of exquisite design - one that we hope will inspire and delight you. New Yorkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Kips Bay Decorator Show House has been the gold standard of Show Houses for more than four decades, and hosting an event in South Florida has provided even more opportunities for the design community to bring forward creative and innovative design. We are delighted to have secured the participation of a world class group of interior designers, and to be at the Fountain House, a Mediterraneanstyle home situated along the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach. We are all here for one very important reason - to raise essential funds and awareness for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. Together, these organizations serve over 18,000 children with programs and services that range from academics and athletics, to the visual and performing arts. Dear Show House Friends, Welcome to the 2nd Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. Year after year, I am inspired by the thousands of youngsters who walk through the doors of our Clubs. These children are inquisitive, passionate, and energetic young people seeking to take advantage of our services and the guidance of our highly-trained staff. These members come from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. Over the past year we have been fortunate to serve members with more intentional programs; programs that prepare our Club members to compete at a superior level within our society. Providing interesting and diverse programs has always been a pivotal part of the Kips Bay strategy. Our Digital Arts Studio has inspired youngsters to research and pursue careers in media, app coding, and filmmaking. Educating youngsters in the culinary arts and embarking on the creation of a Culinary Arts Learning Kitchen is now a reality. We also understand the importance of mental health in the communities we serve and the unfortunate circumstances our members face daily. As a result, we have partnered with Astor Mental Health Services to create accredited mental health clinics at two of our major Club locations to address the mental health needs of our members. The impact of Boys & Girls Club work is diverse, comprehensive, and encompasses major areas of a child’s social and emotional development. We know that through our continued fundraising efforts, such as the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach, we can stay on the cutting edge of program advances and deliverables to continue to meet the needs of our children. Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club is proud to offer a wide array of programs in five key areas that align with proven elements of positive youth development. At the Lucile Palmaro Clubhouse, you might find competitive swimming, ballet, and karate all happening simultaneously. Aspiring filmmakers and musicians are now able to hone their craft in the new Digital Arts Center at the Coudert Clubhouse. In addition to physical recreation and the arts, Club members can take advantage of academic assistance and education enrichment programs, held daily. Kips Bay is a place that allows young people to challenge themselves physically and intellectually. With nine locations in the Bronx and a summer camp in Harriman, New Yorkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Hudson Valley, Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club reaches youngsters who cannot get to the two main Clubhouses, Palmaro and Coudert. Our facilities are also located in public schools, community centers, and homeless shelters. Members at these facilities enjoy frequent trips to the Clubhouses for swimming, skating, digital arts, and special events.

Kips Bay Club member Carlos “CJ,” was invited to join the cast of the broadway musical ON YOUR FEET! The story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan. CJ is a member of Kips Bay’s performing arts dance program: Jr. Company and played the role of young Emilio during the six-month national tour.

We renovated our teen center thanks to funding from the Brent Shapiro Foundation and the New York Football Giants, LLC., courtesy of Steve Tisch. It now includes updated furniture, décor and a mural highlighting the tenets of the Brent’s Club program.

JAMIL At 10 years old, he came to the United States from the Dominican Republic to the HELP Morris shelter, speaking no English. A member of Kips Bay since he arrived, he enjoys learning new things, has perfect attendance and is now speaking English very well. Jamil is a firecracker.

15TH ANNUAL DAY FOR KIDS Thousands of neighborhood residents, children and local officials joined Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club at the 15th Annual Day for Kids Festival, featuring social media influencer and Kips Bay Club member Demarjay to host our annual event. “BE A S.T.A.R.” BULLY PREVENTION RALLY During our 2018 Summer Camp, WWE’s “Be -A-Star anti-bullying rally took place at the Frederic R. & Margaret Clubhouse in mid-August. Club members were surprised by WWE superstars Titus O’Neil,, Nia Jax, Dolph Ziggler, Charly Caruso and Criket Wiresless Chief Marketing Officer, Tiffany Baehman

Events to help build Confidence, Strength and Character

MICHAEL PHELPS’S “IMPROGRAM” MEDAL CEREMONY Lead by Kips Bay’s Aquatics Director, Eddie Oyola, aquatics staff taught member how to swim and techniques on water safety, including treading water and breathing techniques. The goal of this program is for participants to be comfortable in and around water, advance their swimming skills, and achieve good overall health.

SLEEP NUMBER & NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE Select Kips Bay summer campers participated in the ultimate gameday experience with the NFL and Sleep Number. Club members were greeted with personalized lockers that included a custom Sleep Number football jersey and Sleep Number gift bag. After the gameday field experience, former NFL New York Giants wide receiver, Victor Cruz, announced that the participants would receive a brand new Sleep Number bed.

MULTICULTURAL SOCCER PROGRAM

The Castle Hill unit runs a weekly multicultural soccer program that brings over 250 young people to participate in soccer clinics and recreational play. This program promotes diversity through sports. On Martin Luther King Day, Castle Hill hosted their first ever MLK Jr. Tournament, which included a rotation of exhibition games. During game breaks, staff educated participants the life of Martin Luther

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION Business leader, philanthropist, and speaker Alfred Zaccagnino and best-selling author, New York Yankee executive and inspirational speaker Ray Negron supported the Holiday Celebration at the Lucile Palmaro Clubhouse. The New York Yankees mascot “Dandy” surprised Club members with holiday toys. Kips Bay thanks Alfred Zaccagnino and Ray Negron!

CLUB GETS MAKEOVER BY JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE HE PALM BEACHES On Friday, October 5, 2018, the ladies of The Junior League of the Palm Beaches held a Dedication Ceremony to unveil the freshly renovated library at the De George Boys y & Girls Club in West Palm Beach. TThe group put in two months of hard w nt work, elbow grease, laughs, and paint re resulting in a stunning room that is ssuitable for reading, play, and learning. g. K he Kat McKinley and Nicole Lucas led the eefforts. Club children are already enjoying ng tthe beautiful spot to discover the amazing ng w world of books.

UNITED TECHNOLOGIES MAKES AKES A BIG IMPACT Earlier this year, UTC Climate, Controls & Security, part of United Technologies, announced its donation of $500,000 toward the Belle Glade Building Campaign. The donation was announced during the official grand opening of the UTC Center for Intelligent Buildings, its new headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens. As part of the grand opening celebration and just before Earth Day, employee volunteers from UTC Climate, Controls & Security spent an afternoon with Club kids helping them learn about the importance of water conservation. VOLUNTEER SETS POSITIVE EXAMPLE FOR INTERCITY YOUTH Leabert Stewart believes in the power of strong role models and positive motivation for intercity youth. Moving to the United States from his native Jamaica at the age of 10, this husband and father of twins, has a broad perspective on culture and the challenges youth face in both countries. “I believe that you learn from what you do and go through – it helps you look for success.” Leabert is a mentor at the Max M. Fisher Boys & Girls Club in Riviera Beach. More than three years ago, he started as a volunteer mentor for an undergraduate class project and at the end of his semester, he was hooked. Since then, he has completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees and will be starting his Doctorate in Business Administration soon.

While working his way “up the ladder” in business; starting as a truck driver to a heavy machine operator and now in the office; every week he spends time at the Club mentoring 8 to 15 year-old male members. Working as a group mentor, he helps youth learn from each other, guiding them to become peer mentors and helping them understand the concept of brotherhood. Recognizing that some group members are too shy to talk openly, Leabert also works as a one-on-one mentor. “Many of my mentees are coming from single parent homes where there is no adult male in their lives. I feel I provide role model support and listen to what they have to say.” After a recent graduate course in gender leadership, Leabert has started a co-ed mentoring group at the “Max” Club. “I want to give back to youth. I know I can’t change the world, but if I positively change the lives of two youth and they, intern, each change the lives of two others, that starts to add up. We need our youth to learn to help others in need – we have to look out for each other.”

CLUB ALUMNI HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE THANKS TO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM David Wooten is currently a freshman studying psychology at Florida Atlanticc n University with the goal of becoming a psychologist and opening his own practice. David was named the 2018 Youth of the Year in a ceremony held on n Friday, February 23, 2018 at Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa. Thanks to thee generosity of the Mary Alice Fortin Foundation, Wooten was awarded a fourryear Florida Pre-Paid College Scholarship, including room and board. Wooten has been a member of Florence De George Boys & Girls Club since age e 6. He is the oldest of five siblings and is the only male in his household. At 177years-old, he takes the role of ‘man of the house’ very seriously and makess sure to conduct himself in a way that not only his sisters can look up to, but ut also Club members and his community. As a senior last year, he was captain n of the football team at Inlet Grove High School where he exceled in both sports ts and academics despite having endured much in life. Seven years ago, the honor student went through a rough patch in life when n his mother fell into a coma after giving birth to one of his sisters. He didn’t ’t know whether she was going to live. She and his now seven-year-old sister aree doing great! The experience taught David to enjoy life to the fullest and hiss family is very close as a result of it. “The Club has opened so many doors for me. It was there for me in the most vulnerable stage of my life and was a safe haven for me – somewhere I could go and feel protected. The Club has always been there for me.”

SEVEN 4-YEAR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE AWARDED ED Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier youth recognition program for Club members and the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. Youth of the Year celebrates teens whose Club experience has empowered them to find their voice and achieve success through afterschool experiences rooted in what matters to them most – choice, access and passion. Each year, Club members have the opportunity to participate in the national competition, which begins at the local level. They are evaluated on a variety of categories including leadership skills, moral character, academic performance, and service to their community. Seven teens representing eligible Boys & Girls Clubs in Palm Beach County compete for the top honor. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Mary Alice Fortin Foundation, all seven teens will be awarded four-year Florida Pre-Paid Scholarships. The County winner will receive a four-year University Scholarship that includes room and board. 32

BGCPBC HOSTS REGIONAL ART EXHIBIT Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County was the proud host of the 2018 Boys & Girls Clubs of Americaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s (BGCA) Southeast Regional Fine Art Exhibit. Boys & Girls Clubs members throughout the southeast region of the United States created artwork that was exhibited at the Norton Museum of Art from February 22-25, 2018. A team of judges selected artwork in four age groups and 18 categories to proceed to the national competition, where the winning pieces are displayed at the BGCA national headquarters art gallery for one year. Little Bird is an original piece by Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County member Juncathie T. and is a winner in the Collage category of the 2018 BGCA National Fine Arts Exhibit. It has been selected to be displayed throughout the ensuing year at BGCA events, including the annual National Conference. This year-round program encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6 to 18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits. Using the interactive National Fine Arts Program Guide, staff can guide youth through the various art projects with step by- step instructions and instructional videos.

House History

The Fountain House 6215 South Flagler Drive West Palm Beach 35

History of The Fountain House The property where the home currently sits was originally a swamp. When the intracoastal waterway was dredged and dug up by the Army to be deep enough for large boats to navigate, the removed fill was dumped into the swamp raising the bottom high enough to create some dry land. The very first house ever constructed on the 6215 property, was a two-story brick house built approximately in 1935 for the first gynecologist to ever practice in South Florida, Dr. Wellington George. In 1973, local attorney John Burns bought the home from Dr. George’s widow, Isabel George, without it ever being listed for sale. On a Sunday in 2000, the Fountains purchased the house from John Burns under the condition they would not tear it down. As soon as the sale was final, Don Fountain called architect John Moore and had him come to assess the house and recommend upgrades or modifications. Mr. Moore concluded that the house was beyond renovations and should be torn down. The Fountains, wanting to honor their promise to Mr. Burns, needed to figure out a way to keep the house yet make their own renovations. That’s when the Fountains decided to move the house to one side of the ¾ acre lot, donate it, and then build a new house on the remaining parcel. The Fountains donated the Burns house to the Victory Children’s Home, without ever actually taking possession of it, Victory Children’s Home then sold it to a local historical home aficionado, Bob Honchar, who tore his residence down at 296 Barcelona Road to make way for the Burns home. After getting permits from more than a dozen governmental agencies to move the house to 296 Barcelona Road, the home was finally lifted onto the landing gear of four 747 jets and exited 6215 S. Flagler Drive forever onto a barge that sailed north to Okeechobee Blvd. A team of city and FP&L (Florida Power & Light) workers stopped all traffic along the way, moved and lifted every power line and spread power poles as the home headed west on eastbound Okeechobee and then south on Dixie Highway to its new location of 296 Barcelona Road. The entire process took a total of three days. Meanwhile, The Fountains plan was to build a 6000 sq. ft home for their three daughters. However, the plan ballooned to 10,000 sq. ft under architect, John Moore’s direction. As a memento to Mr. Burns and his family, the Fountains moved the 70+ year old gumbo limbo tree into the back yard and kept a small crystal chandelier from the Burns house in their back stairs. These remind The Fountains of the path that led them to this home. Before starting new construction on 6215 S. Flagler Drive, soil borings confirmed that the lot location was once underwater and part of the Lake Worth swamp. As such this was not an ideal foundation for a new large home. The house needed pilings and lots of them. The problem was that driving the pilings into the ground in the usual fashion would likely shake apart several of the neighbor’s older homes. Instead of compromising the neighbors’ homes, the Fountains found a company that placed pilings under airport runways, so they would not crack when jumbo jets landed on them. The process was unique and involved a large diameter 50-foot-long drill bit that drilled down to the limestone bed rock and then injected powdered concrete mix. The mix absorbed ground water and hardened into a column. This process resulted in the creation of 380 columns under the house. The lot level was then brought up as high as the city would allow, approximately 9 feet. The company that placed the pilings boasts that if Florida were ever to wash away, the house would remain on stilts Since the construction of the home, it has endured 4 hurricanes, and hopefully no more for a long time.
