‘Sup? I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July. The day is set aside to celebrate our Independence. Sometimes I think people just think about the cookouts and fireworks. It’s a day to honor our brave soldiers who have fought and those that are still fighting to keep our country FREE! With this being said do you know Flag etiquette. Here’s a reminder: 1. Federal law requires the U.S. flag to be displayed only from sunrise to sunset unless it is illuminated. It should be raised briskly and lowered ceremoniously. 2. The flag should never be left outside in harsh weather unless it is an all-weather flag. 3. It shouldn’t touch the ground or have any flag flying above it. It should not be allowed to get tattered or worn. 4. When a flag is flown at half-staff for mourning, it must first be raised to the top of the pole and then lowered to the pole’s middle. At sunset, the flag should be raised to the top again before being taken down. So celebrate and say a prayer for all the soldiers every where and celebrate our Independence. Be thankful we live in a country that is free. If you have anything that you would like in the paper, let me know.

Top 5 Things REALTORS® Should Know About New FAA Regulations on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)

Published in Realtor Magazine May/June 2016 Issue June 24, 2016 By Stephanie A. Spear, Erin Stackley The final rule encompasses much of what was contained in the proposed rule, and NAR is pleased with the overall outcome. The rule will lead to more predictability in the market for drone-based services and will create a broader base of trained operators and service providers. Specifically, the new rule: 1. Education Provision: New certification for ‘remote pilot in command’ authority which is less burdensome than a pilot’s license. The test is administered at the FAA testing centers and is knowledge-based only. The cost is about $150, and will take about 20 hours of study time to prepare for. The test itself is 3 hours long. Operators will still need to pass a background check performed by the TSA. 2. Flight Operations Permitted: Flights may be conducted during daylight hours, within visual line of sight, not directly over non-participants, altitude limit 400’, and 100 MPH max speed. 1. Provisions for flight over non-participants will be addressed in the next rulemaking, microUAS, which was the subject of the March 2016 Aviation rulemaking committee. 2. Daylight-only operations, or civil twilight (30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset, local time) with appropriate anti-collision lighting. 3. Many of the operational requirements can be waived, which leaves room for innovation and experimentation with the technology. 4. No provisions for notice to bystanders. This could present problems for operations in more dense areas, but REALTORS® can work with UAS service provider to find a solution. 5. Rule will go into effect in August 2016

Things You Might Not Know About Wichita Wichita’s Own Castle The Castle – Then & Now

B.H. Campbell Castle 1890

The Castle Inn Riverside 2016

Anyone who grown up in Wichita knows about the Castle in Riverside. Although today it is known as The Castle Inn Riverside. Most of us know it as Crumm Castle. It was built in 1888 by cattleman Colonel Burton Harvey Campbell, between 1886 and 1888. Campbell was one of Wichita’s wealthiest residents, and he spared no expense in building the $90,000 castle. It has a nickname of “Jewel on the River.” The Campbell’s owned the castle until 1910. Walter Morris and family were now the new owners. Walter Morris came from Ohio in the winter of 1888. The snow was knee deep and he had no idea of where downtown Wichita was. Mr. Morris founded a company in 1888 developing residential and commercial properties around Wichita. Soon his son & daughters joined in the business. His daughters were active residential realtors for many years. One of the things he created was a trophy to honor the best of his profession. In 1926, Morris and his firm, Walter Morris and Son, originated the Walter Morris trophy cup. The trophy is still presented each year to an outstanding broker in Wichita. In 1960 the castle was sold to Maye Crumm and she began calling it Crumm Castle. Most people even today tend to call it Crumm Castle. Maye grew up in Oklahoma where she attended college. She then received a Masters Degree in Education from W.S.U. She met and married Carl Woodrow Crumm in 1936 in Oklahoma. They moved to Kansas in the 40’s, then moved to Colorado for a short 2 years. Maye taught at the College in Colorado. Then the family moved back to Wichita.

Continued on Page 9

Continued from page 8

Maye became the Editor of the Beachcraft newspaper. Later, she accepted the position of Principal of Plainview High School in Wichita. She started Belle Carter School in 1958 where in 2 short years, she purchased the Campbell Castle in Riverside to house her growing school. Maye was the Head Mistress and Owner of the school until her retirement. She was a lifelong learner and scholar, whose poems earned her several national awards and were printed in several poetry books. Maye moved to Colorado to live with her daughter till her passing in 2005. The castle was purchased by Terry & Paula Lowry in 1994. The castle was in a “state of disrepair”. They spent millions in renovations and it became The Castle Inn Riverside and opened as a bed & breakfast. The Lowry’s are the castle’s fourth owners. The original carriage house was rebuilt and the main building had reinforced the structural work. I was lucky enough to see Crumm Castle when Maye owned it. She was a doll collector as was I. We belonged to the same Doll Club. Our meetings were held at other collectors homes and when it was Maye’s turn she took us on a grand tour. It is an awesome place to see. The castle has a three-story tower with carved gargoyles. There are 28 rooms, 17 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, nine fireplaces; woodwork of walnut, mahogany and cherry & white oak floors. The original hardware was purchased from a New York factory. Lamps and light fixtures were imported from Europe. The castle is on the National register of Historic Places. It is awesome that someone way back could see what the future of Wichita was going be and to know that it would become a special place not only to Wichita but to the people also. We had so much in June and attendance was not very good. Don’t forget about Rock River Rapids Client Appreciation Event on Friday, July 22nd. It is always a fun time. Area foreclosures continue to drop By Dan Voorhis The Wichita Eagle June 29, 2016

The home foreclosure rate in the Wichita area continued to drop in April, as the city has largely bounced back from a decade of financial struggles in its housing sector. According to CoreLogic, 0.76 percent of outstanding mortgages were in foreclosure and 2.73 percent were in delinquency. Lower unemployment, a stronger economy and tighter credit conditions have served to lower the number of problem mortgages.

Company Picnic We want to Thank Alicia & Kirk for having a wonderful picnic for us this year. Those of you who were unable to come missed a great evening. The threat of rain was with us all day and by evening the sun came out and it was a beautiful night. The food was outstanding and the Band was great. We all want to thank Alicia as once again as her decorating was awesome. Very patriotic and beautifully done. She works extra hard to make sure that everything matches the month we have our parties in. Let her know how much we appreciate everything she does. You’re a Special Gal!!!!

WEDDING BELLS RING OUT Congratulation to our own Jennifer Owen and Jarrod Brown who were married on June 30th, 2016. We know she was a beautiful bride. We wish you both love and happiness as you start your lives together.

Make sure you call us with your questions and concerns and of course, your closing through out the year. Till next Month,

Homes sell at strongest pace since 2007 The Wichita Eagle June 23, 2016 From Washington by the Associated Press

Americans snapped up houses in May almost as soon as properties were listed, fueling the strongest sales rate in nearly a decade. Sales of existing homes rose 1.8 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.53 million, the highest level since February 2007, the National Association of Realtors said Wednesday. People remain intent on buying homes, despite the low inventory of properties on the market that has caused prices to rise. The elevated demand likely stems from low mortgage rates and a relatively healthy jobs picture.

CARE COMMITTEE REPORT If you know of anyone in our offices that are struggling with health or issues that we can help please contact the Care Committee: Kelly Bates, Donna Osterman, or Donna Schulze.
