Beat the Heat This August! Sales Tax Holiday: Shop Kirksville for all your back-to-school needs!

Beat the heat this August with Parks and Recreation programming!

During the Sales Tax Holiday, you will pay no sales tax on qualifying back-to-school purchases in Kirksville! Qualifying items include: school supplies (not to exceed $50 per purchase); clothing (any article having a value of less than $100); software (taxable value of $350 or less); personal computers or computer peripherals (not to exceed $1,500); and graphing calculators (not to exceed $150). The Sales Tax Holiday runs from 12:01 am, Friday, August 4, 2017, through Sunday, August 6, 2017.

Enjoy cool summer nights at our Movie in the Park series, Saturdays at dusk through August 26, 2017, in Rotary Park! Then wind down in the evening with Family Fitness Hour in Rotary Park, August 1 and 8, 2017, at 6:30 pm! Of course, you won’t want to miss the Brashear Park Block Party on August 13, 2017, followed by the Doggie Luau on August 19, 2017!

Recycling Is Easy! Recycling is easy in Kirksville! It’s also the right thing to do for our environment. Isn’t it great when it’s easy to do the right thing? For cans, paper, and plastic, Advanced Disposal picks them up curbside every two weeks along with your trash. Be sure to call Advanced Disposal at 800.778.7652 to signup! For glass recycling, simply visit City Hall at 201 S. Franklin St., signup for our new glass recycling program, and purchase a glass recycling tote for $3.99! Your new glass recycling tote will be picked up by Advanced Disposal on the first Monday, or following Tuesday, of each month. If it is not picked up on the first Monday, simply leave it curbside to be picked up the next day. For more information, contact the Codes & Engineering Department at 660.627.1272.

Franklin St., to signup for water Important Dates and sewer service with the City of Kirksville! A deposit is required, and you will need to bring appropriate proof of ID. You may also signup to pay your bill online by coming to City Hall  8/1—LPRC Meeting, 12:00 pm  8/4 through 8/6—Sales Tax Holiday Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm! Trash & Recycling Service: When you sign up for water and sewer service, you are automatically signed up for trash service through Advanced Disposal Services, Inc.! If you would also like a recycling tote, just contact Advanced Disposal at 800.778.7652. Advanced Disposal is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Citizens 65 years of age or older are eligible for a discount, so be sure and let us know if you qualify!

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off

We will be offering a household hazardous waste (HHW) drop-off for all City residents between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Public Works Complex, located at 2001 N. Osteopathy! Citizens must call Public Works at 660.627.1291 to schedule an appointment. The program does not include the disposal of any commercial hazardous waste.

HHW applies to any leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. Items that will be accepted at the collection site include: aerosols, antifreeze, batteries (NiCad, alkaline, lead acid, and lithium), button, ballasts, bulbs (fluorescent and regular household), cleaners (water and ammonia based), corrosives, cylinder fire extinguishers, fertilizers, cooking oil, used oil filters, motor oil, gear, lube, paint (oil and lead based), pesticides / poison-pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, miticides, and fungicides.

License Bureau: In Missouri, you have 30 days after establishing residency to obtain a valid Missouri Driver’s License. You will need to show proof of lawful presence, proof of ID, and proof of residency. The License Bureau is located at 112 E. Washington St.. Contact them at 660.665.0292. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 11:30 am, and 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Visit dor.mo.gov/mvdl/drivers for more information! Animal Control: Any resident who owns, controls, manages, possesses or has part interest in any animal four months of age or older in the City of Kirksville must obtain a one-year, no cost license for their animal from the Kirksville Police Department. The resident must supply certification of inoculation against rabies at the time of application. Licenses are issued for one year and are good from January 1 - December 31.
