Tips for Heart Health Month Get out and vote during the upcoming Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 7, 2020!

Mark Your Calendar for Election Day! Mark your calendar for the upcoming Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 7, 2020! Voters will be asked to elect two City Councilmembers for seats on the City Council. Terms on the City Council are for three years. Following the election, the Council will hold a special meeting to select the Mayor and the Mayor Pro Tem. Are you registered to vote? If not, the last day to register to vote in the upcoming Municipal Election is Wednesday, March 11, 2020! To register to vote, contact the Adair County Clerk’s Office by calling 660.665.3350, or visit the second floor of the Adair County Courthouse at 106 W. Washington St. in Kirksville! The Adair County Clerk’s Office can also give you your polling place within the City!

February is heart health month! Here are some tips if you suspect someone is having a heart attack: 

Ensure the scene is safe. Try to wake the person. Check for a pulse.

Call 911. Find an AED (if possible).

Begin CPR.

Apply the AED ASAP (if possible) and follow the AED prompts.

Continue CPR, following the AED prompts, until EMS arrives.

Get out and exercise your right to vote during the upcoming Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 7, 2020! For more information, contact the City Clerk’s office at 660.627.1225.

If you own or manage a Kirksville business, it’s time to complete your business license for 2020! Business license renewals were mailed on January 10, 2020, on purple paper, to valid business license holders. Business license renewals are due back to the City on or before February 29, 2020. Return the completed renewal form, along with all required documents and fees, to the Finance Department at City Hall. If you have not received your renewal notice, please contact the Finance Department at 660.627.1251. Licensed contractors, plumbers, and electricians: renewals received after the February 29, 2020 deadline will be considered late and will require the applicant to complete the process over again, including the contractor testing / waiver process! Trout Fishing at Spur Pond February 1, 2020 is opening day for trout fishing at Spur Pond on North Osteopathy Street in Kirksville! Some dedicated anglers have already been “testing the water” by catching and releasing trout before the season opens. Now that you can catch and keep your trout, be sure to obtain a fishing license—or an exemption—and trout stamp from the Missouri Department of Conservation by visiting them online at mdc-web.s3licensing.com or in person at the Northeast Regional Conservation Office, located at 3500 S. Baltimore St. in Kirksville! Catch and keep season lasts through October 31, 2020. For more information, contact Parks and Recreation at 660.627.1485!

Stay Safe on the Ice! Whether ice fishing for trout on Spur Pond, or recreating at local lakes, go out onto the ice at your own risk! Use the chart above as a guide for ice safety. Remember to never go out on the ice if an animal or person has fallen through: call 911 immediately! You can throw a floatation device, or reach out to the person with a pole. Always keep sight of the person in case they submerge! For more information, contact the Fire Department at 660.665.3734!
