Mowing Season is Here! Here’s the City’s rule as it relates to grass: it is every property owner’s responsibility to maintain their property, and that includes the mowing of your grass. City Code requires that grass, weeds or obnoxious growths shall not exceed 8 inches above the ground. Everyone who owns property in the City is responsible for keeping the grass and weeds down in their yards and to the center line of any alleyway, if applicable. If you see a property not in compliance, please let us know by using the Citizen Service Request tool on the City website at www.kirksvillecity.com/submit-service-request. We will reach out to the occupants and / or property owner. These individuals will receive a notice of violation that includes a compliance date. For more information, contact the Codes Department at 660.627.1272.

Founders Day 2019! You are invited to join us in honoring the men and women who made Kirksville what it is today during the City’s annual Founders Day ceremony! Organized in partnership with the City of Kirksville’s Friends of Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery Committee, the event will be held Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 2:00 pm in Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery. The cemetery is located one block west of the downtown square, at the west end of Harrison Street. The Friends of Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery will be joined by American Legion Post 20, the Adair County Historical Society, Curtain Call Theatre Company, and other volunteers for live theatre and the viewing of historic artifacts and memorabilia. Information on how you can get involved in preserving our local history will also be available! Additionally, the Friends of Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery will be dedicating a plaque in memory of those interred in the Baird Vault as part of the ceremony. Please plan to join us to honor the founding of our city! For more information, contact Economic and Community Development at 660.627.1224.

Pets Take More Than Food and Water Caring for your pets is not only important for their health and wellbeing; it’s important to your neighbors and the community. Providing your pets with nutritious food, adequate water, proper shelter, exercise, and veterinary care is your responsibility. Failing to do so is not only harmful to your pets: it could result in issues with your neighbors. For example: excessive barking can annoy your neighbors and be a City Code violation resulting in a penalty assessed to you, the pet owner.
