Offices Closed for Holidays Thanksgiving Safety Tips! Our Fire Department would like to remind you to stay safe this year while you prepare your Thanksgiving feast!
Stay in the home when cooking your turkey, and check on it frequently.
Keep children away from the stove; your stove will be hot!
Keep the floor clear of hazards so you don’t trip over kids, toys, bags, etc.
Keep knives, matches, and utility lighters out of the reach of children.
Be sure electric cords are not dangling off the counter within reach of a child.
Make sure to test your smoke alarms to ensure they are working.
City Offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2019 in observance of Veterans Day. City Offices will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, 2019, in observance of Thanksgiving.
Aquatic Center Closing
Following these tips just might prevent a fire, or prevent injuries to you or your family, this Thanksgiving! For more tips and information, contact the Fire Department at 660.665.3734!
The current Aquatic Center’s last day will be Wednesday, November 27, 2019, from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Starting Thursday, November 28, 2019, the Aquatic Center will be closed for the construction of the new Aquatic Center!
Winterizing Your Water Meter

Now is the time to winterize your water meter! If your water meter is prone to freezing, you should take the following precautions to prevent the meter from freezing and breaking:

Make sure you have a tight-fitting lid on your meter pit.

Fill the meter pit with fiberglass insulation, especially if your lid doesn’t fit well.
Place a blanket or straw bale on top of the lid for insulation.

Following these simple steps will help protect your water meter. As a reminder, if your meter freezes, the meter replacement and/or repair is the responsibility of the tenant/owner. For more information, contact the Finance Department at 660.627.1251.

Trash & Recycling Reminders! The City and RTS Waste Services, LLC would like to thank residents for their cooperation and understanding during the transition of waste service providers! We would also like to remind residents of a few rules regarding trash and recycling services. Yard waste cannot be placed in your trash tote. Yard waste may be disposed of at the Public Works Complex, located at 2001 N. Osteopathy St., from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. If you would like yard waste picked up from your curb, RTS Waste Services, LLC offers this service for $5 per pickup.

Santa to Visit Downtown Kirksville!

Santa Claus will be coming to Downtown Kirksville beginning Saturday, December 7, 2019!

Parks and Recreation’s popular “Breakfast with Santa” will be held the mornings of December 7 and 14, 2019, at Maxwell’s! Get your tickets at parks.kirksvillecity.com, or at the Aquatic Center during regular hours! Tickets are $10 per person, and children 4 and under are free!

Santa will return to the Downtown at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2019, as part of the Kirksville Kiwanis Christmas Parade! The parade will take place on Franklin Street, between Missouri and Jefferson Streets. Following the parade, Santa will welcome children to the second floor of the Adair County Courthouse until 8:00 pm! Santa will return to the Courthouse on December 14 and 21, 2019, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm! Holiday activities and train rides will be available during every visit!

Curbside Recycling is available at no charge and with no limit. If you have more recycling than what will fit in your 65 gallon tote, you are allowed to set additional recycling beside the tote in clear plastic bags. Remember to rinse all plastic and metal cans before placing them in your recycle tote. Glass recycling is also available by purchasing a glass recycling tote at City Hall for a one-time fee of $3.99. All colors of drinking glasses, vases, and food and beverage containers are accepted. Glass recycling will be picked up once a month on the first Monday and Tuesday of the month.
