City Budget Process Underway! The City’s budget process is well underway as the City Council works to meet the needs of our citizens! As a part of this process, the Council has reaffirmed the City’s mission: “Through excellence in service, the City of Kirksville will provide ethical and responsible local government.” The Council has also adopted a new purpose statement: “Local government is a distinct and essential tier of government consisting of democratically elected Councils having the functions and powers that the State considers necessary to ensure the peace, order and good government of a community.” As always, our vision is to be the best city to the citizens we serve, meeting their needs and expectations both today and tomorrow. The Council has also reaffirmed their belief that in order to achieve our mission, purpose, and vision, we must be committed to these four goals: 1). economic development, 2). quality of life, 3). fiscal responsibility and efficiency in government, and 4). the protection of City-owned assets.
The annual Adopt-a-Child Christmas program is designed to provide a special Christmas gift for more than 300 children in Adair County, 0 to 16 years of age, who otherwise might not receive a gift. You do not need to use an alternative (e.g. bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.
What does this mean?
This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately.
Total organic carbon (TOC) has no health effects. However, TOC provides a medium for the formation of disinfection byproducts. This notification does not imply your water system has issues with disinfection byproducts. If your system incurred a violation for disinfection byproducts, a similar notification would be issued in addition to this public notice.
During the second quarter of 2017 (i.e. from April through June 2017), the running average for the removal of total organic carbon (TOC) in the water tested through the Water Treatment Facility was found to be under the minimum amount. To address this, chemical adjustments have been made as part of the water treatment process.
For more information, please contact Ken Dunlap at 660.665.3720 or via mail at 201 S. Franklin St., Kirksville, MO 63501. Additionally, you may contact the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Northeast Regional Office at 660.385.8000 or Public Drinking Water Branch at 573.751.5331.
