Welcome Students! The school year is underway, and thousands of college students are once again a part of our community, and our local economy! These students make an important decision to attend Moberly Area Community College, Truman State University, and A.T. Still University, and call Kirksville home during their college career. Some may even choose to stay in Kirksville after graduation! Students bring a vibrancy that is vital to the health of our City, its businesses, and institutions. Free Pet Registration!

Registering your pet in the City of Kirksville is free! All you need to do is stop by the Police Station, located at 119 E. McPherson St., during regular business hours, and bring proof of a rabies vaccination, if required. Per City Ordinance, anyone who resides within the city limits and cares for an animal four months of age or older must license their animal every year. The license is good for one year, from January 1 through December 31. If your animal is classified by ordinance as a “restricted animal” (including pit bulls or mixed breeds that include pit bull), there are additional requirements. Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Reminder As a reminder, we will be offering a household hazardous waste (HHW) drop-off for all City residents between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Public Works Complex, located at 2001 N. Osteopathy! Citizens must call Public Works at 660.627.1291 to schedule an appointment.

Important Dates

HHW applies to any leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. Acceptable items include: aerosols, antifreeze, batteries (NiCad, alkaline, lead acid, and lithium), button, ballasts, bulbs (fluorescent and regular household), cleaners (water and ammonia based), corrosives, cylinder fire extinguishers, fertilizers, cooking oil, used oil filters, motor oil, gear, lube, paint (oil and lead based), pesticides / poison-pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, miticides, and fungicides. Commercial hazardous waste is not accepted.

The Adair County Health Department (ACHD) will be having its annual Drive-Through Flu Clinic  9/18—Council Meeting, 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2017! This year, ACHD will be offering quadrivalent flu vaccine at no  9/29—Monthly Siren Test, 10:00 am cost to citizens at three locations in Adair County: the NEMO Fairgrounds in Kirksville from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the Novinger Fire Station from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and in Brashear on the Contact Us: south side of the square from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The vaccine is recommended for those three Airport 660.665.5020 years of age and older. According to Jim LeBaron, ACHD Administrator, “This is an important Aquatic Center 660.627.7665 emergency preparedness exercise for both the City of Kirksville and Adair County. This exercise 660.627.1251 gives the Health Department a great opportunity to practice both the mass dispensing of Business Licenses medication and the coordination of our efforts with our community partners”. City Manager 660.627.1225 According to Ron Stewart, ACHD Planner, “There are several ways our citizens can participate in the drive-through event for 2017. First by coming through our drive-through locations with friends and family, and second, by volunteering to assist with this event. Last year we had over 1,300 participants receive their flu shot at the drive-through clinic. We are planning for at least that amount during 2017”. Stewart reminds the public that your participation in this emergency preparedness exercise will help our County stay healthy during the 2017-2018 influenza season.

Participants are encouraged to complete their forms ahead of the event. The forms can be downloaded at the ACHD website: http://adair.lphamo.org. Participants should bring their Medicare or Medicaid cards and wear a short-sleeved shirt or loose-fitting clothes. For more information, contact the Health Department at 660.665.8491.

The City’s Fall Brush and Limb Pick Up is scheduled for October 9 to 13, 2017!

The Public Works Department’s Street Maintenance Division will begin picking up tree limbs and large brush on Monday, October 9, 2017. Although the work is expected to take the entire week, to guarantee pickup, your brush must be placed curbside by 7:00 am, Monday, October 9, 2017! This includes limbs that are no longer than 10 feet in length, and / or no wider than 18 inches in diameter.
