Keep Up-to-Date! An emerald ash borer.
The Emerald Ash Borer is Here The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has confirmed that the tree-killing invasive pest known as the emerald ash borer (EAB) has been detected in Adair County and the City of Kirksville. The EAB is a small, metallic green beetle native to Asia that only attacks ash trees. In its larval stage, EAB bores into ash trees, cutting off the trees’ flow of water and nutrients, eventually killing the trees. Ninety-nine percent of affected ash trees die within three to four years. If you have ash trees in your yard, now is the time to put a plan in place. Healthy, highvalue ash trees can be treated with insecticides annually to protect them from the EAB. For other ash trees, and especially those which have already lost fifty percent or more of their leaves and branches, the best option is removal.
